We scour the post-match reports and injury rooms after the weekend’s matches in order to discover those players who picked up problems over Saturday and Sunday’s nine matches:
Arsenal
The Gunners back-up keeper Lukasz Fabianksi missed yesterday’s trip to Goodison through illness.
Aston Villa
Fabian Delph missed Saturday’s home loss to Fulham with an Achilles problem, though Paul Lambert is confident the midfielder will be in contention for next week’s trip to Palace
“Delph trained on yesterday and was a bit sore. He’s feeling a bit sore at the back of his legs at the minute, hopefully he’ll be all right for next week. I think there was a risk that if he’s played he might have pulled something.”
Chelsea
Andre Schurrle picked up a foot problem in Saturday evening’s win over Stoke following a challenge by Charlie Adam. After the game, Jose Mourinho seemed confident the German would be available for tomorrow’s Champions League clash with PSG:
“I believe he will be okay to play. I like aggressive football and I can’t get inside the mind of a player to decide if the intention was to hurt or not, so it’s fine for me.”
Everton
Leon Osman was forced off with an eye injury just 10 minutes into Sunday’s win over Arsenal. After the game, Roberto Martinez confirmed the midfielder should be ready for the Toffees’ clash against Sunderland next weekend:
“Leon’s really lucky to avoid serious injury. He’s got a nasty cut that needed stitches on top of his eye and his eyelid was affected. But he’s fine and will be fine for the weekend.”
Hull
Tom Huddlestone missed the 1-0 win over Swansea with a back problem. The midfielder took to Twitter to reveal his omission was merely precautionary, with Steve Bruce perhaps having one eye on next weekend’s FA Cup semi-final with Sheffield United.
Liverpool
Daniel Agger missed yesterday’s trip to West Ham after picking up a knee problem in training, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed. Speaking to Sky Sports prior to the 2-1 Upton Park win, the Liverpool boss revealed:
“Daniel hurt his knee and had to come out of training and isn’t able to play. It shouldn’t be too serious – he’s just had to miss today and was touch and go.”
Man City
Yaya Toure picked up a knock in the home win over Southampton, Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed. The City boss is optimistic the problem is not serious ahead of double Gameweek 34.
Man United
Ashley Young was subbed off less than 20 minutes into United’s emphatic win at Newcastle after damaging ligaments in his hand, David Moyes has confirmed. Patrice Evra is also a concern for the Red Devils ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Bayern. The Frenchman revealed he was forced off at St James’ Park with an ongoing knee problem but told the club’s official website “I think I will be fit” to face Pep Guardiola’s side.
Southampton
Jay Rodriguez lasted less than half an hour of Saturday’s loss at City before being stretchered off with a potentially serious knee injury. Mauricio Pochettino admitted after the game he fears the Saints’ top scorer could be out for the remainder of the season. Artur Boruc and Gaston Ramirez missed the Etihad clash with a minor back problem and ankle knock respectively.
Stoke
Stephen Ireland missed out of the Potters’ visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening through illness.
West Brom
Midfield duo Graham Dorrans and Zoltan Gera were both forced off with injuries in the weekend win at Norwich, according to the local press. Dorrans left the field on 77 minutes and was replaced by Gera but the Hungarian lasted just six minutes before sustaining a suspected hamstring problem.
