Our Friday lunchtime regular arrives once again, as we analyse the PlayON Player Price List ahead of tomorrow’s 10.45am deadline. Below we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

PlayON this week announced that they will be running a £100 Freeroll Game each week exclusively for followers of their @playon Twitter account – to get free entry into the game just follow @playon here.

PlayON also has £1,750 in other Guaranteed Pots on offer this week – £1,000 in their Weekly game and £250 in each of their Daily games – you can enter any of the Guaranteed Pots here.

Goalkeeper – Asmir Begovic
The Stoke stopper has not enjoyed the strongest start to the season, with just two clean sheets to his name thus far. A home encounter with Burnley this weekend offers Begovic (6.7m) a chance to serve up the points before the fixture list turns against Mark Hughes’ side and, given that the visitors have scored in just one of their five road trips so far, the Potters will be confident of a Britannia shut-out. Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois is another keeper who has struggled for returns over the opening 11 Gameweeks. Coming in at £8.2m, he’s the cheapest defensive starter amongst Jose Mourinho’s regulars and faces a West Brom side that have mustered just three goals away from the Hawthorns this term.

Defender – Martin Demichelis
Man City’s defence hasn’t been too impressive of late, with a 2-2 draw at QPR in Gameweek 11 indicative of the form which has harvested just a couple of clean sheets in the last 10 rounds of fixtures. In spite of Vincent Kompany’s likely absence, the Argentine could still be one to consider at home to Swansea, though; Garry Monk’s side that have scored just once in their last three away fixtures. Crucially, the recent additions to the PlayON Scoring Matrix should benefit Demichelis, with clearances, interceptions and tackles providing points opportunities. A Newcastle defender won’t be an essential pick many times this season but the form of Daryl Janmaat cannot be overlooked. The Dutchman created both goals against West Brom last time around and, at a price of just 7.0m in PlayON, could be excellent value as the Magpies look for a fourth clean sheet in five against an R’s side that has scored just twice away from Loftus Road.

Midfielder – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Like City’s Demichelis, the updated PlayON Scoring Matrix should benefit the Arsenal flier, with his ability to intercept and tackle an important trait in what’s bound to be a frantic match against Man United. A headed goal in the midweek international against Scotland, allied with eight chances created in his last two league performances, demonstrates Oxlade-Chamberlain’s improving displays in the final third. Available for 8.8m, he’s also much kinder on your budget than other options such as Santi Cazorla (11.1m) and Aaron Ramsey (11.8m) and looks likely to earn the role on the right again, with Theo Walcott unlikely to feature. League leaders Chelsea look likely to prosper at home to a West Brom side that has conceded twice in four of the last five Gameweeks. While Cesc Fabregas (13.4) and Eden Hazard (13.7) are the obvious picks, their lofty valuations see us turn our attentions to Oscar for the first time this season – the Brazilian comes in at 11.5m, and, with three goals and an assist in his last six, has form on his side.

Forward – Ayoze Perez
Despite scoring in each of the last three Gameweeks, the Newcastle frontman remains at a very budget-friendly 7.2m ahead of a home encounter with QPR. Perez’ goal-getting displays look set to keep Papiss Cisse warming the Magpies bench and bearing in mind the visitors have yet to register a shut-out on their travels, he’ll fancy his chances of delivering once again. Elsewhere up front, there are two stand-out candidates for the essential pick this week. Sergio Aguero (15m) and Diego Costa (14.9m) have fixtures that cry out for their inclusion but it’s difficult to accommodate both at those prices. As the Chelsea midfielders currently afford us stronger options than Man City, we’ve gone for Aguero over Costa as the champions welcome Swansea to the Etihad.

Rate my team advises to give the armband to Aguero instead of costa however costa has 6.77 compared to Aguero's 6.76

I assume this is because RMT must class Aguero's chances of missing a game through injury in any given week as higher than Costa's.

The score you see is basically the anticipated score, taking into account probably gametime.

      A simplified example:

Let's say Aguero's projected score if he was 100% guaranteed to play was 10. Let's also say that RMT projects his likelihood of playing as 67.6%. His anticipated score would therefore be 10*0.676 = 6.76.

Now let's say Costa's projected score if he was 100% guaranteed to play was 9. Let's also say that RMT projects his likelihood of playing as 75.2%. His anticipated score would therefore be 9*0.752 = 6.77.

RMT thinks on average Costa will score more this week as he carries less chance of missing the game. It also thinks you should captain Aguero as in the event he plays he is likely to score more.

That probably makes little sense and certainly those numbers are wildly wrong but that's my best shot at an explanation 🙂

I am pretty sure RMT selects the captain as a combination of avg predicted score and the consistency of the scores during it's simulation

      for example...augero might have simulation scores (completely made up) of 7 6 6 7 6 7
      and costa might have 3 10 4 6 3 12

They would have similar avg scores but RMT chooses Aguero bc he consistently gets a higher score whereas Costa would be more volatile...make sense?

I'm tempted to have a one week punt on this Ayoze fella on my wildcard as my cheap 3rd striker (leaving money in the bank), and then decide next week whether to transfer him to Sakho or Austin. Is this silly? Should I just go with Austin from the off (bearing in mind I will be playing Dummet this weekend as well)?

Cheap strikers never have worked well for me. If he blanks, you'll be asking yourself a dozen times why you got him.

The problem is that we expect too much from cheapos 😉

      1. Bubz
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 1 month ago

There's no other option but to have a 3rd cheap striker. None of the mid price (Welbeck, Pelle, Lukaku etc) float my boat at the moment, and I want to stock up on heavy hitters like Haz, Alexis, Costa, Aguero, Baines, so it has to be done.

Yes, it's silly. Austin has more chance of scoring than Ayoze this weekend, one week punts on a wildcard aren't a good idea.

I wouldn't worry about playing both Dummett and Austin, Dummett's enough of a threat in the other box that you could even luck out with both.

Don't have the money to go a straight ADM to Sanchez. Needing to sell Pelle to afford it. Other two strikers are Costa and Aguero.

Maybe hold off til next week then.

I'd def take sanchez over adm (I'm also looking at getting adm out to fund costa). But Mark and others expect the man-ars game to be tight so it may be that adm-sanchez might score similar.

            I have both though!

      Almost certainly.

The question for me is whether Sakho to Austin is worth a hit. I'll have 2pt Jones (Burnley) off the bench so would need an Austin goal to break even.

not sure where you got 'almost certainly' from. Last update on Baines said he was touch and go for this weekend, which suggests 50/50. Sakho also needed a test to see whether he would make it.

Maybe a week early but ditching Pelle and Clyne for Aguero still looks decent

If you're having injury problems I feel bad for you son. I got 15 players but an injury ain't one. 😀

I'm suffering from Baines pains, frowning because of Downing, Steven Taylor looks sure for failure and Marc Wilson is ill, son.

Plenty of rookie mistakes in that GW1 lineup. Took hits in GW2 and GW3 to steady the ship though 🙂

          Haha, busted.

Actually its only Baines + Tadic/Downing, and I'm confident that Tadic will make it back for Monday and Baines will play as well, leaving me with no injuries in my starting XI 😉

Not very likely. Although if Downing is out he may start.

Song rumoured to be doubtful too though, could come in for him, Nolan replacing Downing and Carroll replacing Sakho

I have a non playing keeper and 5th mid. How important is it to have 15 starters in your team come the Xmas period? I hope the veterans of this game can offer their insight 🙂

non-playing keeper shouldn't be an issue unless there is suddenly a load of snow. I usually managed fine with 1 non-playing outfield player. However haven't done that this season as there aren't any 4.0 midfielders!

I wouldn't worry about the keeper but I'd want my 5th mid playing just in case.

I like to have 15 players that play 90 mins. When the weather begins to affect the games its just your luck. Rotation can happen everywhere. Try to buy players who the team cant go without and that are used to playing over the winter period in England.

you should be aiming to have regular starters in your team.
and then hope for the best 🙂

      a non-playing keeper should not be a problem - I could live with a one-off zero points

I would try to get a playing bench but I wouldn't worry too much about it either.

The spine of my team at that point will probably be Hart/Fabianski,Baines,Cesc,Siggy,Sanchez,Aguero,Costa and the rest depending on the fixtures. I wouldn't think any of those are subject to rotation right?
