Slinking quietly into the velour chair of our virtual betting shop, cap dipped low after another mauling by Paddy, we slide another betting slip from the pile to take up the challenge again for this week’s Fantasy Flutter.

Did we shoot for the stars and overlook measured value for the big odds, or did our Scout Picks fall short of their predicted contributions? Perhaps a bit of both, but this week we are determined to chalk a few up for the good as Paddy market up Jose Bosingwa, Luis Suarez, Steven Taylor, David Silva and Shane Long, not to mention a tasty treble on the one hundered percent teams – Man United, Wolves and Man City. Read on to find out how our Picks play out in Paddys world…

The monobrowed maestro Jose Bosingwa has risen like a phoenix from the ashes under the stewardship of André Villas-Boas. In flying form, he mirrors Ashley Cole’s devestating overlaps and provides serious threat from Chelsea’s right flank. Paddy may have been a bit over-zealous with odds for him to get a red card at 40’s, having only been written into the referee’s book once last year, whereas 2 assists or more at 10/1 earns our interest and deserves a punt for £1.

Luis Suarez continues to poach goals whenever his slick footwork graces the turf and he’ll have a place in Fantasy managers and punters minds alike this weekend. Paddy have put together some pretty tempting specials here, including odds to score a header and to find the net from a free kick. Nice respectable odds with decent probability, but we fancy a spot of sabre rattling and are going to knock down 14/1 on Suarez to miss a penalty. With the Uruguayan failing to convert on the opening day, we’ll stake a quid on the planets aligning for this one.

With the last of the long shots out of our system, let’s get down to some serious betting with some semi-serious money. Next up is Steven Taylor against Fulham, challenging us with the likes of two or more goals at 80/1 and to score from outside the box at 22/1. Tempted? Sure. Do we remember last week’s thrashing by Paddy? Definitely. Newcastle stand a good chance of gaining a cleanie against The Cottagers but Taylor to get a brace? Too rich for our blood but have a sniff if you fancy backing the Magpies’ tower of strength.

Sans Tevez, David Silva is really making his mark on the Premier League this season in emphatic style. A veteran of the Scout Picks already this season, he glides between passes through the apparent acres of space that only he can find, notching up well earned bonus points along the way. As City push forward in numbers, Silva has a tendency to take a step off the line, lying in wait to pull the trigger if the ball is played square. With Spurs allowing Man United to remain mostly unchallenged in these situations in Monday night’s game, Silva to score from outside the box at 5/1 looks massive for £2.

If Paddy had given odds on Shane Long bullying the oft immovable Alex off the ball with such ease we wouldn’t have wasted time looking at them, let alone opened our wallets. But he did, the week after putting a goal away against United. Paddy are wagering completes a hat-trick of first goals this week against Stoke at the Hawthorns at 11/2, a worthy punt for £2.

Acca-not believe it!

Can the top three maintain their 100% records. Form big guns from Manchester United and City take on the out of sorts Londoners Arsenal and Spurs, whilst the clash between Wolves and Villa makes a surprise tussle for third place. Wolves look like the real risk here, although the journey time won’t be an issue and with Matt Jarvis on form as both provider and finisher last week, our final £4 goes on this huge treble of Man City, Man United and Wolves all to win at 14/1.

Check back next week to find out how our bets got on and how long it took us to count our winnings.

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet a tenner.

I want to captain Suarez and it seems that quite a few others do too. I'm concerned he might not start though. Anyone out there with an informed opinion about this? Demi has your contact said anything about the line up?

However, despite the fact that Suárez will be part of the Uruguay squad that travels to Kharkiv to play Ukraine on 2 September, Dalglish is confident the club will manage his form and fitness.

"I don't think he is jaded," said the Liverpool manager. "He had a break before they met up for the tournament and another break before he came back here. We would love him to play in every game, although that might not be practicable. But I have never come back from a tournament on a high like he has done, I was never that lucky.

"The adrenaline won't run out for Luis. He won't accept that success is finished for him. I am sure Uruguay will be conscious that they have got to manage their European players because it is a big burden on them to play all summer and then stage friendly matches as well.

I still don't know should I captain him.

    Baines - Simpson - Bosingwa

    Moses - Sinclair - Sess - Nani - Silva

    Torres - Bent

    Subs: Brown, Senderos, Holt

Thinking of keeping my transfer, think it looks ok although a there's a few transfers i'd like. Leaning towards Bent on the captaincy. Opinions?

+1 Suarez is the safe play. If Torres ends up doing well, atleast you still still get the points, but if he does bad (which easly could happen), you'll be left behind by everyone that doesnt have Torres and captained Suarez. The only player I would "C" for Chelsea is Fat Frank.

Lampard is still going forward and he had nice game against WBA and if Anelka was better in his finishing Lamps could easily had 3 more assists.

And I believe that Nor aren't that good in defending in the center as WBA were. Che were obliged to force attack from the flanks. Not this time IMO. ALso Bor aren't good at defending set pieces. If I was AVB I would insist on those set pieces to get a opening goal. I am sure 2 goals could be scored from set pieces and Lamps could/should take most of them.

And it seems that nobody is thinking that we could start in 4 4 2 formation which is good for Lamps he will not need to play on the left, cause he is used to play on the right or very high up on the pitch. I think AVB will start with 4 4 2 and then switch to 4 3 3 when Mata will come on.

That's from me regarding Che and Lamps.

Money Mike is ABSOLUTELY hopeless. What a load of shit tips.

The Paddy Power "Specials"... Basically, they're for the uneducated.

The Scout Picks USED to be a tradition on here. Don't be fooled by this "Scout Selection Committee" nonsense; it's probably Useless Money Mike scripting it all.

A key part of the game is actually WATCHING it.

Yes they used to be a tradition, they're not a gospel or anything, they're a prediction for the best team of the week, nothing wrong with doing it.

A key part of the fantasy football game is based on statistics.

I remember way back when, when articles didn't even appear daily and 1,000+ posts for articles were unheard of. Now you get two or three articles per day and 2,000-3,000 posts per article. Many of the posts can be dismissed but there can be tremendous insight gleaned from the FFS community. There is sooo much more content on here and really, it is a tremendous source for football info, above and beyond FPL.

Quite correct Vescari. Look at the "Scout" picks for this weekend for example. Nothing too thought provoking is there? Totally bland.

may be a silly Q, but why is Aguerro bottoming out now, when he's looking more likely to play than previous weeks? is everyone getting Bent?

Trying to decide on my last defender, needing one of Kompany, Warnock, or Simpson. Currently have Warnock, in but are there any compelling reasons to go with one of the other two?

Thanks jayzico, I don't have Given, thus, Warnock is in. I think ManC will concede and that Simpson will only get another clean sheet if leave him on the bench.(Like the last two weeks.)

I just changed the (c) in my team from Torres to Rooney if that helps. I must hold off on the Torres > Suarez move also.

Gw4 looks like Torres > RVP & Rooney > Aguero (but with the abundance of talent available in the City side it will become a bit of a lottery).

Need some help with my team lads

    Given (Foster)

    Bosingwa/Kompany/Simpson (Ward/J Evans)

    Silva/Moses/Sinclair/Nzogbia (Tiote)

    Suarez/Aguero/Rooney(C)

quite worried that my defence is lacking, including either keeper option have already utilized my free sub in the form of Alex ---> Bosingwa (although im regretting that already).

Tempted with a switch of foster to hilario? or somehow getting jose enrique in the side, any suggestions ?
