The ScoutCast – Episode 29 – Croissants And Footy

The latest ScoutCast episode is now live for your aural pleasure. Listen in as I recount my Paris trip diet of croissants and football, and a closely fought contest between Wifey and WIFI. I seem to have absorbed some French luck too, as I continue on my ‘Fantasy Cup’ run. Maybe it’s due to Le Chat Noir that ran in front of my car last week. Mark on the other hand is desperately trying the differential blagging game and failing miserably. There might just be a contest this season after all.

As well as the usual podcast regulars, the pair of us visit the familiar “Fantasy Island” destination with a passenger that at first seems like a case of mistaken identity. A shared surname created the confusion, giving me all the opportunity I needed to dwell on United’s latest triumph over Mark’s Gunners. He can harp on about Forest all he likes. I know the truth.

  1. hello blokes,
as arshavin wil probs go down 2nite and drogba will rise b4 the gw ive decided to do my transfers 2nite and was thinking as there are hardly any consistent (reasonably priced) midfielders to do the following:
    arshavin > mid worth 4.4m
    zamora > rooney
    anelka > drogba

please take a look at my team and tell me if this is worth doing.
    cheers

  2. (ab) says:

haha just seen the fulham goal. NOT a duff assist. not even close, please don’t embarrass yourself and email in. mahousive deflection on duff’s pass

  3. kamdaraji says:

here is my team for the weekend. any opinions, advice guys?. i am going to do anelka > tevez this week so my lineup will be

    Hart
    Hangeland Evra Nelsen Cahill
    Lampard N’zogbia Eagles
    Drogba Rooney Tevez

  4. Johnny Unitas says:

Only noticed that Sanli has now returned to the rightful Tuncay on FPL!

  5. Rich says:

wooohoo won my fantasy cup 52 to 51 would have been easy if i didn’t take a 4 point hit but still the hughes bp saved me. i would’ve gone out if he didn’t get it cuz i only scored 1 goal. who would you guys bench out of tuncay, n’zgobia, lampard, and eagles.

  6. Vlad says:

These DGWs freak me out. I think they make this game boring, narrowing transfer goals mostly to the players who play DGW. I’m tired of them, I want more normal gameweeks!
And I’m glad this another crappy DGW is finally over. No transfers this time, having a rest!

  7. SO angry!! outta the fantasy cup because of a stupid points hit!! Diamanti > Zamora

  8. kamdaraji says:

I am fed up of women and fantasy football. ROAR.

  9. horlicks says:

Petrov or Nani!? or anyone else?! got 8.2 m

  10. mar says:

got to be nani, cant see him being dropped. hes in the form of his life

  11. one_jack says:

    whoho…i got 7pts from o’hara..3BP’s.
shud i sell him to Lee@Taylor (Bolton)??

  12. who to play: milner or duff?

    • Gnu says:

I’ve got them both benched this week, but Milner the likelier to come in if I Tweek before Sat.. tough call but Milner and AV still solid enough IMO.

      • my plan to bench them both to. However with Richards being injured and my sub already done I’m not taking a hit when i have solid enough bench players. Milner has the shirt at the momenth though. Still not convinced by fulhams form.

  13. aidy_7f says:

Got 60 this GW including my 8 point hit. dropped in rankings but made ground on number 1 in my league so i suppose thats not too bad.

gonna resist rooney. already taken in Drogba and Tevez for Klasnic and Anelka this week.

  14. Shahriyar says:

I hav been knocked out of fantasy cup for just 1 point. nooooooooooo

  15. whos the best mid i can buy for 4.4m 4 the next few games?

  16. SuperDorrans says:

How do you rate this team for the next couple of weeks? Using two freebies this week.

    Hart/Sorensen
    Evra/Cahill/A Cole/Dann/Baird
    Duff/Fabs/N’Zog/Modric/Tuncay
    Rodallega/Rooney/Tevez

    ?

    • looks a dam site better than mine lol

      • SuperDorrans says:

Don’t like doubling up on teams like Fulham & Wigan though, can take Stoke because I have a keeper and a midfielder so its a bit different, also Wigan have a DGW coming up so thats all fine but Fulham, really tempted to get Baird out to Tomkins, thoughts?

        • dbronaldo says:

if u were selling someone from ur defence id luk at a cole, personally i wouldnt buy tomkins and id keep the defence u have,
u could easily do this , which is wat im tinking of,
keep sorenson for his double week26 then get green week 27,
id rather green over tomkins and also he will swap very nicely with hart until the end.
          sortef ;)

    • ya its a good team, no weakness, u dont need drogba at the moment but try and fit him into your team at some stage

      • SuperDorrans says:

I plan to get him in for Tevez after his DGW, have enough money to do it with about 0.4 left over.

        • im so skint its unreal i wish i knew players values ^ & v before gw9 i wouldnt have been so stupid…i know i doubled up on fulham wit zamora an gera..fat load of good those 2 numpties proved to be :@

          • SuperDorrans says:

Ah well, just basically leave your transfers to nearer the deadline and ask on here what you should do with your team and you should pick up pretty quickly, try and stay off the points hits also. Your team looks decent, the defence is fine especially for the next couple of weeks. Maybe get N’Zogbia or Tuncay in for Arshavin, would free up cash to make it more flexible for yourself in coming weeks?

  17. matt16matt says:

    Another 16 point hit pays offf :) :) :)

    • niko says:

How did it pay off? Take away your 16 and you have 49 points, 6 below average.

    • TorresMagic says:

I was going to reply to the comment but didnt. He bought O’Hara,Lampard,Rooney,Hughes & Larrson for 32 without inc the capt, players out scored 9 doing a quick count at best & with the 16 he still made a profit of 7 so well done :)

  18. boney says:

I won fantasy cup by 4pts..thank u duff!!

  19. ykwa09 says:

need to ship arshavin out…who is a better option?
    MTaylor or MPetrov?

  20. IcyNorth says:

Here’s my plan to execute before Drogba’s price rise:

Anelka and Ballack out for Nani OR Huddlestone OR Modric.

Can someone have a look at my team and give an opinion on this plan? Thanks!

    • IcyNorth says:

And Drogba in … forgot to add.

      • ykwa09 says:

modric is better pick than huddlestone no questions asked

      • dbronaldo says:

im not knocking ur plan IcyNorth, but id bet carlton cole / rodallega will outscore drogba over coming weeks,
have u considering c cole who has (almost certainly)2 dgw one after another and good fixtures?
and rodallega has similarly 2 DGW more apart and nice fixtures,
i was looking at drogba but ill prob wait until these doubles are out of the way around week 30 as chelsea may also be missing week 29 due to fa cup QF should they progress

        • IcyNorth says:

Very interesting thoughts, dbronaldo. I will think about your suggestions. I’m worried if I don’t buy Drogba now, I won’t be able to afford him in the next few weeks.

    • i wouldnt consider huddlestone as a potential transfer, nothing wrong with selling ballack and anelka & bringing in drogba & nani although theres a rotation risk with nani but it could pay off

  21. dbronaldo says:

hello all, all things considered im not 2 unhappy with falling from 50 – 60 k ,tings could have been far worse and my fulham defenders proved my fate in them was justified,
onwards and upwards, im wont be put off more upcoming DGW because of this one ,
so i read earlier andy was on about having rooney this week then selling rooney 4 cole , then buying rooney 4 tevez,
this would mean having DGW forwards for them all……….i wont lie, i like the looks of it, may do something similar.
would give me 2 dgw for cole, and 1 for tevez, rodallega and rooney.
hopefully ill get more 57! ;)

    • thank u dbronaldo for encouraging me to double up on fulham defenders also :) … outta fantasy cup coza zamora 4 point hit tho!!

      • SuperDorrans says:

I don’t want to double up on Fulham at all, have Baird & Duff but looking to shift one out, Fulham are in bad form and were dire tonight apparently.

        • dbronaldo says:

its just a temporary move SuperD, paid off 2nite and i will def play them both againist bur and bir at home, agreed they are completely out of form, hopefully they will pick up some confidence from the win and ill be getting rid of one come week 29,
i reckon 1 fulham defender is essentially to rotate around the fixtures until the end,
id keep baird, was impressed by him 2nite, at 4.3mil playing cm is a bargain

      • dbronaldo says:

no worries mate, was a calculated risk that paid off this time , il prob bench my 3 fulham players this week and hope play both baird and hughes in week 26 and 27 where another 2 clean sheet double points have good possibilities,
then im planning 2sell one of hughes/ baird as it looks very likely the wont play week 29 v stoke due to fa cup (dont hold me to that just yet not decided) and il look at likes baines and song to come into my defence who fixtures wont be messed up with fa cup postponements as they are out.

        • yep im doin the same… well,, i dunno whether to plat collison r zamora,,, Wat u thinK?

          • dbronaldo says:

            id play zamora over collison,
currently im debating hughes or a reid,
dont want to be stung if fulham get a cleansheet at bolton and reid may not start next week given how zenden did when he got introduced

  22. SuperDorrans says:

I can do 2 of these this week? Have 2 freebies you see.

    Baird > Tomkins
    R Johnson > Cahill
    Milner > Tuncay

    ?

    • dbronaldo says:

i see ur plans have changed, :)
id do the first 2, not mad about tuncay.

      • SuperDorrans says:

The thing is I have 2 freebies this week so would be a waste to use them, basically if I do the top two I will have to downgrade Milner next week. Where as if I do the bottom two this week I could save my transfer next week and have two for GW27, when I will be getting Drogba in. Thoughts?

        • dbronaldo says:

had a look at ur team there,
wit ur 2 freebies id do modric > lee and r johnson > tomkins
id rather keep milner longterm than modric , and milner is more central to villa,
then the following week id look at c cole, green

  23. ykwa09 says:

    Lamps, Modric, NZog, Duff, ____

who should I get to complete my mid. 9.0 or under. Im thinking MPetrov or MTaylor/Lee would be good for the next few gwks

    • Najoman86 says:

ykwa09, Probably an in-form Valencia (with the exception of the past week, thanks to SAF), or Matty Taylor would be a good trade.

      • ykwa09 says:

Heres the questions…Matty Taylor might be the safest pick in terms of rotation and has a decent run but his form is not that great. Will he score more in the upcoming weeks over lets say an in form player that might get rotated more, such as Nani/Valencia/Petrov/Tuncay

        • Najoman86 says:

Bolton definitely have a decent run of fixtures coming up, including the double GW…
However, United, City and Stoke also have a double.

Would say that Tuncay is not prolific a FPL point scorer.

What about a Modric > Valencia trade and get Taylor in also?

  24. Najoman86 says:

    Hi All,

Any suggestions for the upcoming GW?

    Gomes/Hart
    Evra/A.Hughes/Dunne/Shawcross/Nelsen
    Modric/N’Zogbia/Lampard/Milner/O’Hara
    Rooney/Defoe/Tevez

    In the bank: 0.4

2 free trades for this week

Thinking about trading both Defoe and Modric for a pair like Valencia and Rodellega? Or could the trades be better spent elsewherer?

  25. Raccoon says:

Awesome stuff. I can listen to this tomorrow instead of the football I’ve been listening to every day since Saturday in an attempt to continue to concern the other half with my growing addiction to fantasy football.

  26. IcyNorth says:

Can we depend on the CTC noting that a Drogba price rise is protected until Friday?

    • dbronaldo says:

i would say no, we just dont know for sure how many days, i beleive ctc is set for 10 days of protection, but many players have changed after 8……but the onset of ‘protection peroid’ is up for debate in many of those cases,

  27. davysteen says:

just home…i take it bentley is the newest bandwagon??lol..

  28. got arshavin outta my squad for McCarthy seconds before the price drop :)
have enough £ for any strike force now.,..thoughts?

dbronaldo saw ur post regardin nxt week rooney> cole then tevez 2 rooney the next week, this slightly confused me, as its late who would your strikers be across these weeks?

    • dbronaldo says:

i was just planning to ‘copy’ andys idea which i like alot:depends on if w ham have week 26 double confirmed added to the double they have in week 27
currently for week 25 to come i have:
      rooney, rodallega, tevez

      week 26 :
rooney > c cole and would leave me with 3 forwards all with doubles that week.
      c cole (2), rodallega(2), tevez(2)

      week 27: tevez > rooney,

      c cole (2), rodallega, rooney (2)

      looks good propect

    • dbronaldo says:

      • dbronaldo says:

        stupid mozzila firefox, posted twice!!

      • cheers mate yeah that does look tasty, when will we know if wham have that second double and what does it depend on?

currently i have anelka/zamora/tevez, was planning to go rooney, drogba, tevez. but now i think i may do rooney rodallega tevez like yourself.

the rest of my team is pretty cheap not sure who to sub/play either

    • SuperDorrans says:

Anelka > Rooney (4 point hit)

You will then be able to captain Rooney who is obvious captain this week and then you already have Tevez next week for captain, so thats 2 great captain choices in a row, should easily score pretty big and get you two green arrows in a row.

  29. Silkworm says:

Is Moses gonna start for Wigan?
