Suspension Tightrope – Cisse, Huth, Givet Away
Filed under: Suspensions - Posted by: Anorak
In patriotic fashion, the Saturday palette of games duly started with a red, passed through a flurry of white, and ended with the blue side of Manchester celebrating a 17th successive home league win – but this being a disciplinary round-up, we’re only interested in the first bit of that mélange.
The first red in question, in the lunchtime Emirates massacre, was shown to Blackburn defender Gaël Givet, with the former French international given his marching orders for a two-footed lunge on Robin van Persie when the score was already 3-1 to the home side. Steve Kean will now have to do without his services for the next 3 games (QPR, mci, AVL) and will hope to convince want-away club captain Chris Samba to don his boots again for the club.
In a week where the tackling laws were clarified by referees chief Mike Riley, going in with two feet was always going to be a risky strategy for Givet, but fronting up to your opponent and grabbing him around the neck as our next perpetrator managed, is on another level. The Lord of the Manor of Frodsham (or Djibril Cissé as he is more commonly known), took objection to a challenge by Wolves defender Roger Johnson and his subsequent retaliation after 34 minutes left his QPR teammates exposed. Since then, he has used his Twitter feed to apologise to the club’s fans, but will now find himself amongst them in the stands for the next three (bla, FUL, EVE).
A hat-trick of straight reds for eventual losing sides was completed in the 45th minute of Sunderland’s 1-0 win at the Britannia, as Stoke defender (and scout pick) Robert Huth was also adjudged by referee Martin Atkinson to have fallen foul of those clarified rules with a slide tackle on David Meyler that failed to collect the ball. The strong post match comments from Stoke manager Tony Pulis, suggest that an appeal may be on the cards for this one, but for the meantime, the three matches missed by Huth include the FA cup tie at Crawley Town, and Premier League matches against Fulham (a) and Swansea (H) in Gameweeks 25 and 26.
GAMEWEEK 25 BANS
- Gaël Givet (BLA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
- Mario Balotelli (MCI) – FA Charge (last of 4 matches)
- Yohan Cabaye (NEW) – FA Charge (last of 3 matches)
- Djibril Cissé (QPR) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
- Robert Huth (STO) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
- Karl Henry (WOL) – 1 Red for serious foul play (last of 3 matches)
Commenting is now closed for this post.
“City can go on as much as they like. That’s what you would expect, but the history of our club stands us aside. We don’t need to worry about that. I think we have a rich history, better than anyone, and it’ll take them a century to get to our level of history.”
Sir Alex Ferguson points to United's rich history in the light of City's title win

teddy says:
Bench next week – Walters (away to Fulham) or McClean (home to Arsenal)?
February 5 at 10:02 am
MANIAC says:
How can that be a problem ?? Walters obviously
February 5 at 10:02 am
Eddie says:
Walters. That’s what I’m doing and playing Sess
February 5 at 10:03 am
dopey1 says:
Bench Walters. McLean/Sunderland on form and are playing at home.
February 5 at 10:03 am
Random_Guy says:
Always bench Walters away. ALWAYS.
February 5 at 10:28 am
matiakez says:
Just chuck Walters out!
February 5 at 10:05 am
kraftwerk says:
McLean.
February 5 at 10:06 am
Hannibal Jack says:
Bench Walters. Out of form and Mclean will have it tough against Sagna but go with the home fixture
February 5 at 10:10 am
teddy says:
Walters got a few half-decent shots away in yesterday’s game.
But I guess McClean could give Coquelin a run for his money, playing at home while Stoke are weak travellers and Fulham are strong at the cottage.
Right you are.
Or… Walters out for the OC.
February 5 at 10:12 am
Count Of Monte Hristo says:
Bench the player from the Rugby Union outfit who charges about like a maniac.

marrog says:
Note the relative league positions of your advisors!
Mind you, the only guy who’s opinion you probably ought to be taking note of has neither player – so could just be joking!
February 5 at 10:02 am
starmanager says:
Silva, Dempsy, Valencia, Sess and Bale. Who the hell do I take out so I can afford Aguero?
Thinking about replacing with sigg, mcclean or ox..
February 5 at 10:03 am
Eddie says:
Silva. Can never justify both him and Aguero. I also have Richards
February 5 at 10:04 am
Jack(off)Attack. says:
-1.
February 5 at 10:04 am
Eddie says:
Plus you will have more in the bank
February 5 at 10:03 am
Test Eagles says:
I’m in same dilemma
February 5 at 10:09 am
starmanager says:
But look at City’s fixtures, two home games, no Champions leauge, no FA cup, no nothing except the leauge! And Silva is the player with most assist and you always see him trying to find agueor, dzeko. But my first option was getting rid of silva, but then I need to bring in a city defender.. With Joe Hart in goal (maybe the best keeper in the world) I cant see anyone scoring on Etihad..
February 5 at 10:04 am
MANIAC says:
Silva imo
February 5 at 10:06 am
Fred the Red says:
Care to link your team?
February 5 at 10:09 am
starmanager says:
Mignolet – vorm
BAE – Richards – Clishy – Caulker – simpson
Bale – silva – sess – valencia – demps
rvp – ba – morrison
February 5 at 10:11 am
starmanager says:
what do you thinK?
February 5 at 10:14 am
Fred the Red says:
Any money in the bank? I’d say downgrade Clichy and BAE. Then get rid of Sess or Dempsey. Can you afford Aguero for Morrison then?
Sorry that’s a lot of transfers I know but quickest swap would probably be Valencia/Dempsey for a cheap mid and then Ba->Aguero.
February 5 at 10:23 am
starmanager says:
I have 1.8 in the bank. I was gonna get rid of clishy for Evans. But Sunderland are in great form and sess is nearly playing striker and so is Dempsy. I can afford Aguero if I get rid of either dempsy or sess.
I can afford aguero with getting rid of clishy (too much city players if not) and dempsy and morrison.
the team
Evans > clishy
Dempsy > siggurdson, mcclean, ox or Ireland maybe.
Morrison > aguero
But that will be -8 for next gameweek.. :/
February 5 at 10:24 am
starmanager says:
But still have my WC.. But thinking about saving it untill the last gameweeks if im in trouble, currently leading my leauge with about 20 points to second place
February 5 at 12:12 pm
marrog says:
That would be a vast hit for far from guaranteed returns.
February 5 at 10:04 am
Count Of Monte Hristo says:
Do you think AOC should be dropped for Gervinho when he returns from the ACON? Gervinho is rapid but he really doesn’t have the decision making and goal threat that AOC has. Wenger will undoubtedly cotton wool him up to the nines but I rate the guy highly.
February 5 at 10:05 am
Eddie says:
Not dropped but rotated. Gervinho wont get in straight away in any case
February 5 at 10:05 am
dopey1 says:
He could be dropped but I dont think he should.
I hope he doesn’t as I’m considering bringing him in!
February 5 at 10:06 am
MANIAC says:
AOC and Gervinho will share the play time imo
February 5 at 10:06 am
s_jbuntin says:
Maybe he may think that ox hasn’t got the stamina to play full games
February 5 at 10:05 am
s_jbuntin says:
Huth And Walters OUT
Richards And Tarrat in 4point hit
Now mark Hugh’s has taken over and cisse out so will tarrat play up front?
February 5 at 10:07 am
MANIAC says:
No
February 5 at 10:05 am
Punter says:
walters–>>?????
will donovan be a gud idea????
February 5 at 10:13 am
starmanager says:
I love donovan, he’s a smart player. I havent seen Evertons fixtures, but if they have good set of games i would take out Walters for about anyone else, but donovan could be a good choice, have you looked into Siggurdson for Swans?

Hannibal Jack says:
What’s the negativity with ESPN? The ESPN they have here in Asia is excellent and the commentators are from Sky I think. What’s the difference?
I also wondered why people complain that only one game is been shown by Sky in a whole weekend!
We get to watch almost 8 Premier League matches live in a single weekend here in Asia.
Please educate my ignorant mind on how this things work. I am just curious
February 5 at 10:36 am
Ginkapo says:
Sky are not allowed to televise the 3 O’clock kick offs in England as it would discourage people from attending their local match.
And nobody subscribes to ESPN or Eurosport so we only get the ones shown by Sky.

If you havent seen Fresh Meat the channel 4 comedy then I would like to say that this does not mean what you think. (well it does, but thats not my intention)

King Nemanja says:
Good stuff!
February 5 at 10:05 am
FORCA INTER says:
who to play next week?
Mosses or McClean
February 5 at 10:07 am
Fred the Red says:
Tough one. I’d say Moses. McClean’s run of form/luck has to run out soon surely.
February 5 at 10:17 am
King Nemanja says:
Moses I would go with
February 5 at 3:52 pm
Toreador81 says:
Moses was disgracefully wasteful yesterday! McLean is at home but it’s Arsenal. Wigan have Bolton away. It’s a tough call. I’d probably play Moses myself. Arsenal were formidable yesterday – albeit, they were against 10.

February 5 at 10:10 am
MANIAC says:
Get rid .. He’s no more OOP ,besides stoke are having a terrible run
February 5 at 10:12 am
s_jbuntin says:
Should I get Tarrat in for a punt will he come good
February 5 at 10:16 am
starmanager says:
I dont like tarrabt, he hasnt shown anything in PL.. I would go for a player that is in good form like Siggurdson
February 5 at 10:09 am
s_jbuntin says:
Will Tarrat play upfront now cider red carded
February 5 at 10:09 am
Count Of Monte Hristo says:
AVB to get the sack if he doesn’t win the CL. He’ll be getting the sack then. Abramovich seems like a wierd creature. I guess all the money doesn’t give you all the knowledge. Surely all these seasons with Chelsea have taught him a quick fix manager each season won’t win you the biggest prize in Europe.
February 5 at 10:11 am
s_jbuntin says:
I not even sure they make top 4 if they don’t beat man u
February 5 at 10:16 am
Doesnt Mata says:
Anyone considering benching Kun for tough away games? Seems sensible, as he’s been very very poor away from home, especially against good teams. i.e. I’m playing Zamora and RVP up front next week, leaving Kun on the bench (1st sub obv).
February 5 at 10:21 am
MANIAC says:
Villa are having a terrible run defensively..I’d start him
February 6 at 7:15 pm
simsey33 says:
You said earlier you brought in Ba and Evans for Zamora and someone else…..
Do you have Zamora or Ba or are you just full of $hi+ ?
As for benching an 11mill fwd – dont even ask man
February 6 at 7:21 pm
simsey33 says:
Total bs artist and timewaster – I draw attention to your earlier post
DOESNT MATA SAYS: February 6 at 4:16 pm
Just took a hit to get in Ba before the rise and Jevans. Shipped out Zamora and Raylor (had to to get Ba, already have Krul and Simpson).
RMT for GW25 please:
Vorm
Richards, Senderos, Caulker
Siggy, McClean, Dempsey (vc), Silva, Bale (c)
Aguero, RVP
Subs: Ba, Jevans, Simpson
Stop wasting peoples time with your BS mate….

Any thoughts on how Suarez will play today? Straight red card or a hattrick?
February 5 at 10:23 am
Fred the Red says:
or rather, tomorrow…
February 5 at 10:29 am
starmanager says:
I think he will be fired up, but do you think he will start? I know carroll is shit, but they won the last game 3-0, maybe daglish wants to keep the same team
February 5 at 10:28 am
Doesnt Mata says:
A solid 2 points.
February 5 at 10:30 am
starmanager says:
hahhah
February 6 at 2:37 pm

Will City be using their starting defenders in the Europa league matches against Porto? Thinking of bringing in Richards with their good fixtures coming up, but does that pose a problem for him specifically?
