Tuesday Dugout Discussion

Filed under: Dugout Discussion - Posted by: Akers

With the rest of the footballing world tuning in to the occasion at the Nou Camp tonight, the Dugout Discussion opens with it’s eyes firmly fixed on the remaining fixture from double Gameweek 35. It’s not glamorous, it’s Aston Villa versus Bolton Wanderers in a relegation scrap. The team news is in…

Villa XI: Given, Hutton, Cuellar, Baker, Lichaj, Albrighton, Herd, Warnock, N’Zogbia, Heskey, Weimann.

Bolton XI: Bogdan, Steinsson, Wheater, Ream, Ricketts, Ryo, Reo-Coker, M Davies, Petrov, Eagles, Ngog.

Gabriel Agbonlahor misses out due to injury for Alex McCleish’s side, whilst David Ngog is recalled in place of Kevin Davies for the struggling visitors.

The Dugout Discussion is open and can be accessed right here, with Champions League chat still permitted.

    Ramboros says:

Using WC this week was a bit more difficult than I expected, especially with Ivanovic banned for first game, and Tottenham with no results to show last few games. This is my conclusion at the moment. Finding the right players the keep for GW37 and 38 is also difficult

    Cech(Mig)

    Terry, Hibbert, Shawcross(Taiwo, Kilgallon)
    Pienaar, Siggy, Bale, VdV, Mata
    Papiss, Jelavic(RvP)

    Bank: 1,2

Keeping RvP for next GW. QPR got an easy home game next GW, while Kilgallon is there only as the cheapest safe option. My main concern is that I don’t have enough cash to switch Cissé out for Agüero or Rooney in one of the next GWs.

      Dave Boozle says:

Replace Mig – get a keeper for Gwk 37, I’m not going for Siggy with my WC – only good for this week, and I’d much prefer a DGW who I could also play in 37&38.

Ladies, Gentleman I have a decision to make. If i make changes today i can afford to swap Miyachi & Valencia > Bale & VDV (frustrated by miyachi lack of game time). But i have already swapped Aguero for Jelavic so im looking at a -8 hit. I would then bench Caulker & go 343 40 points behind leader need to do something drastic. Im a thinking rashionally here? Please help me decide what to do need as much advice a possible

Sorry to ask such a tough question guys but the events of GW35 have led to my ML leader actually increasing his lead to 31 points after I’d been making steady progress in catching him.

Which combination do you think will score more points?:

    A) GW36 Jelly (-4) (DGW) & Silva, GW37 Rooney & Silva (new), GW38 Rooney & Moses

    B) GW36 Rooney (mcy) & Silva, GW37 Rooney & a replacement for Silva – Moses (bla)?, GW38 Rooney & Silva’s replacement + 1FT to make another change – perhaps a cheeky punt on someone with something to play for and a reasonable fixture.

I reckon B will score more but if Rooney is quiet vs. City and Jelly goes mental this week then A is by far the better option.

I think if you’re going to bring Jelly in for a hit, you’d have to be considering captaining him to make it truly worth it. It is far from certain that Jelly will have 2 productive games, even with Everton’s recent form. I don’t envy your decision, I have both of them for the sacrifice of no Cisse. I think B is the way forward for you.

I can’t explain how glad I am to here this guys.

I know it’s only a game but I’ve been working hard to catch this guy all season and last week I was only ~15 points off him with a much better looking squad. His Rooney (c) vs my RVP (c) and a punt on Petrov really messed it up for me and I just don’t know whether to stick or twist!

I know it should always be your decision and you shouldn’t let others’ opinions influence you too much, but I guess in hearing people saying that they’re worried about Rooney scoring against City and that Jelly might not actually score that big in GW36 kinda confirms what I thought.

Why are the Everton players so much more popular than the Spurs ones? I realise they are in form and have some great budget differentials for the run-in but what are Everton playing for?

Yes form over fixtures has been the theme this year but aren’t we lead to believe this time of the season is all about having that certain “something to play for”. Do Everton have a tangible aim?

I believe a mix of both is key purely on the basis that Spurs surely must beat both Blackburn and Bolton. Even if they don’t win Blackburn and Bolton both concede a fair amount of goals so Spurs attacking coverage is a must imo. I have Howard and Jelavic which seems to be ample Everton cover too, they’re playing for fun it seems!

Howard, Jelavic, Bale, VDV and BAE for me.

I too believe Spurs cover is just as important as Everton. They’re both great options as they don’t have a cup final and have good fixtures to follow in 37 and 38.

I was just wondering why Everton seems so much more popular and I guess you have offered the best explanation thus far i.e. the pressure is off so they can play without restraint.

I guess noone really planned for Everton coverage and expected their so-so season to fizzle out. Suddenly they’re playing some of the best stuff in the league and a lot of the other DGW teams come with baggage (bad form, other commitments leading to rotation/lack of concentration etc).

I guess they could easily carry on their form and finish their season on a high note. There’s no reason why they would suddenly stop playing so well.

Hi everyone, 1st ever post and would really appreciate a few comments.

I’m chasing 32 points in my money ML and want to know if the transfers I have in mind are worth it:

    Team is:
    Bodgan (Vorm)
Simpson – Turner – Caulker (Evans – Verm)
HBA – Dempsey – Siggy – Sess (Walcott)
    Cisse (c) – Rooney – RvP

With my 1 FT, I am thinking a 16 point hit):
    Bogdan to Cech
    Caulker to Terry
    Walcott to VdV
    Sess to Pienaar
    RvP to Jellyvic

    Any thoughts??

So you are going to bench Rooney or Siggy.
Maybe keep Sess to put on your bench and save 4pts
If you are not looking to save points you could switch Turner for an Everton defender instead.

Is Cech going to score 4pts + over Bogdan? Maybe another 4pts to be saved.

      Would do all except

Bogdan (2 games x 2 pts appearance + 1 pt for saves = 6 pts) to Cech (IF CS, then 12 pts less 4 pts for the hit) = incrementally only 2 points difference

Sess to Pienaar – touch and go on this one

It’ll be interesting to see when GW37 comes and how many people have DGWs players that were unlucky in GW36 and now look pretty bad for the remaining 2 GWs.

    Alreet lads

I’m not going to get much computer access for the rest of the week, so need to get some advice while I can. My current thinking ofr this week is:

    ———–Howard————
    -Terry—-Santon—Caulker
    VDV–Bale–Barfa–Siggie
    —-Dave–Tevez–RVP—-

    kompany, evans, valencia

That would be an 8pt hit and give me 7 DGW players, and leave me set up reasonably well for the run in. I am currently 32 pts clear of my rival, but after hits, and his wildcard, I will go into the weekend 24 pts clear. Should I be looking to make any more hits? I don’t really want to pay RVP away at stoke, but will want him for he Norwich game. Any help appreciated!!

That starting Xl looks ideal imo. I’m taking an 8 point hit also. I don’t think you need to go further than that especially as you have a strong side and like you say sets you up for GW37 and 38. I’m playing RVP this week. He will score against that lot.
