The Pre-Season Guide

This morning we’ve added our Pre-Season section to the site and main menu bar (at the top of your page). This links through to the pre-season guide – our comprehensive coverage of Premier League sides’ warm-ups before the big kick-off.

In the guide you’ll find links to all our notable pre-season articles so far, including the End of Season reports for the promoted teams – West Ham, Southampton and Reading.

The guide also lists all the upcoming friendlies for Premier League sides and we’ll be recording the result of each one, with a link to the match report and recording the scorers. Under this we’ll be putting together some pre-season scout notes on each team and listing the form players. This should equip you with all you need to get a synopsis of how each team has fared over the summer, the lineup trends and the players taking form into the kick-off. Scout Notes, published regularly on the homepage, will also add to our pre-season package.

West Ham started us off with their 3-1 defeat to Austria Vienna earlier this week, with a good amount of teams in action this weekend. Highlights of the summer include the Arsenal vs Man City clash on July 27, United’s meeting with Barcelona on August 8 and, of course, Swansea’s encounter with “Ventura County Fusion”. No, we haven’t a clue either.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        It is not the the term black, white etc which is incorrect it is the context in which it is used.

        The main, key, most important difference is that there's very little historical precident for people being abused, discriminated against, beaten up, lynched, enslaved etc for being white.

        When you know that your grandfather / father could quiet easily expect to have had the shit kicked out of him immediately after hearing the words "you black cnt" it makes it rather different.

      You're not asking a neutral question, you're making a political point. When people make this argument, what they're missing is the context. The context is that white people do not have a history of being oppressed by black people and marginalised from society on the basis of the colour of their skin.

      All race based slurs are horrible, and the world could do without any of them. But "black c*nt" is a phrase that is soaked in a history of bloody suffering and misery whereas "white c*nt" isn't and is therefore considerably less offensive.

        'mate' genearlly works quiet well. The point is that it was abusive rather than anything else. For instance:

          Relax kiddo, got bashed up badly GW 1 & 2 last season but that turned out to be a wake-up call. We have a tremendous squad and it'll be even better come KO (or end Aug anyway). I am very relaxed about Tottenham's ability to run the top sides close for the CL places, maybe the leagu....... (response cut short by men dressed in white carting Frazek off for some clearly needed R&R under lock 'n' key)

          No idea what his stats are like ILF. How does the points scoring work, i think he's good for assists, should've got more than he did last season. Takes loads of touches too, i'd have him over Taylor or Flores(who's new). Williams could be better for the aerial threat though.

            He did really well in the Metro last year, and I don't see Swansea defence falling apart as some do.

            I think he'd get the tackles and probably passes sometimes. This is guesswork, I haven't looked at the stats, but he seemed to be everywhere for them.

    Which players do we think might be reclassified by position this season? Defs to Mids, Mids to Forwards etc....any?

      the euros classification of forwards worried me a bit
      it looked as if any team playing 4-3-3 all the three player up front, including the wingers are classified as forwards
      that will push the likes of walcott up front which is not good news to anybody

    for all the borini rumors there are some things that need to be known:
    borini used to play at chelsea and was loaned out with an option to buy believed to be over 5 mil pound.
    if he is to be resold after just one season, this fee is to be recouped plus some gain on it, especially that this guy made it to the 23 man squad of the euro.
    in other words he will not come cheap........
    unless if aquilani is involved in the exchange.....

      you might be right, but Roma have come out and said there are negotiations going on between themselves and LFC. I could see Aqua involved. Sort of feel for the lad actually, nobody seems to want him lol.

    Reading have now confirmed that left-back Nicky Shorey has returned to the Madejski Stadium on a one-year contract, with the option for a further 12 months. More on site shortly.

    He will be challenging Ian Harte for that left back spot. I'd be surprised if he wasn't first choice when the season kicks off. If he is, I wonder who will get the set piece duties for Reading?
