Today’s FPL Player Values
Filed under: Fantasy Football Games - Posted by: Paul
This afternoon saw another three player prices released by the official Fantasy Premier League (FPL) twitter stream. Southampton’s Rickie Lambert has been valued a little more than we anticipated, Kevin Nolan seems a decent mid-price option, while the news on Michel Vorm was – after last season’s heroics – as we feared:
Michel Vorm is no longer a cut-price option for our consideration. The Swansea stopper started the previous campaign at a mere 4.0 and racked up an incredible 158 points, thanks to 15 clean sheets and 143 saves – second only to City’s Joe Hart in the goalkeeper standings. As a result, he is now valued at 5.5 in FPL for the season ahead, with his appeal now substantially diminished. Such a valuation is surely set to see his popularity plummet; the Dutchman finished last season with over 33% ownership but the vast majority of Fantasy managers will now be looking for other alternatives between the sticks as we go about balancing budgets. Bearing in mind that Brendan Rodgers has now departed the Liberty Stadium, there’s no guarantee that Vorm will mirror those returns under new boss Michael Laudrup – the price is also a likely reflection of how FPL perceive the Swans’ defensive assets next term, forcing us to look elsewhere for our cheap keeper rotation and cut-price backline options. Sky Sports have been a little kinder; Vorm comes in at 5.2 and is the ninth most expensive option between the posts, with the first-choice goalkeepers for last season’s top eight sides all priced higher.
Kevin Nolan comes in at 6.0 this term – the same price as QPR new boy Ji-Sung Park and just 0.5 less than Stoke’s Jonathan Walters, though the latter’s classification is yet unknown. Certainly, Nolan should be listed as a midfielder in the FPL game and brings a history of strong Premier League returns with him; the Hammers captain has notched double figures in each of his previous two campaigns in the top-flight, with 17 and 12 goals in 2009/10 and 2010/11 respectively – a decent mid-price offering, then. Nolan’s price makes Mark Noble’s all the more intriguing in the Hammers midfield now; the latter’s spot-kicks and majority of set-pieces saw him have a hand in 18 goals last term (eight goals and 10 assists), the same number as Nolan (13 and five respectively) and, if he comes in cheaper, could interest plenty Fantasy managers, bearing in mind the Hammers’ strong start. The Sky Sports game have Nolan down as the pricier of the two; he comes in at 4.9 to Noble’s 4.7.
Rickie Lambert has also been slapped with a 6.0 price tag by FPL after his exploits in the npower Championship produced 27 goals and 14 assists for the Southampton forward last season. Despite such statistics, it’s perhaps a little surprising, bearing in mind that Grant Holt and Heidar Helguson were the costliest frontmen from the promoted sides at the start of 2011/12 at a cost of 5.5, while Swansea’s Danny Graham came in at just 5.0. Many had earmarked Lambert as a potential cut-price option up front, with his spot-kick duties furthering his appeal but, dependant on other players’ valuations, this could cause us to have a re-think. It’s a full 1.0 dearer than Reading’s Pavel Pogrebnyak, for example, and, while the Saints outscored the Royal by 85 goals to 69 last season, Brian McDermott’s investment in top-flight experience could boost the Russian’s appeal. Lambert’s valuation may now have us assessing Adam Lallana instead – the winger produced 11 goals and 10 assists in the previous campaign and could pick up plenty of investment if he comes in cheaper in the midfield area. Looking at the Sky Sports game, Lambert is substantially dearer than Lallana, by 6.8 to 4.9.
Commenting is now closed for this post.
“I love to attack and I love to go up front...It is a little more difficult than when you are playing centre-back. If you play the way that I want to play, I think my influence is better as a left-back. For the team, it is best that I play as a centre-back. I like to bring the ball out. You need to move the game quickly, and that is one of my qualities as well.”

Happy pre-season all! Hope all is well. Really got a feeling this season is going to be a nightmare. More difficult indeed. The ‘gems’ need to come from the promoted sides and frankly I think they are very light weight. I guess it may be this week that we will find out….

True. To be honest i havent fully researched the new boys properly. Basing on last season i cant see much with them. Will crank it up now tho. No Vorm-Esque keepers on show then….!

Pork Pie Sausage Roll says:
As I say below: who knows. Not many would’ve predicted Hart/Soreneson to be such good picks in 09/10; Foster, Adam, Carroll, Nolan etc in 10/11; or Vorm, Holt & co last season to be as good as they were.

Will almost certainly have Ivanovic Hazard and Pog (as my cheapie striker). Probably some 4.0 RDG defender as well that may as well be played due to DGW. Not convinced by Torres, especially as he’ll be competing with Rooney and Kun as one of my other two strikers

Real shame about the Olympics. Otherwise Mata would be my 100% nailed on (c) GW1. Don’t know if I have the balls to captain an unproven guy. I can see it being a toss up between Aguero or Ivanovic. I may even risk an uber-flair Harte (c) if he seems to be 1st choice after all!
July 15 at 8:46 pm
Tommytour59 says:
Wouldn’t fancy starting with Captain in minus points
That said Im captaining Nando so thats 4 points!
July 15 at 8:48 pm
Pork Pie Sausage Roll says:
I’d never have the courage to commit when it actually came down it! Imagine the flair of a 40pt captain with 0.6% ownership though
July 15 at 8:38 pm
super zlatan says:
I just think Pog at 5mil with two games to start the season is great value. But he could well get a two pointer versus Chelsea so your point is valid.
July 15 at 8:40 pm
Round and Round says:
Pog is great value for week 1. The problem is if you get him in, hard to get rid of without taking hits – wont be anyone worth getting for a similar price.
July 15 at 8:45 pm
Pork Pie Sausage Roll says:
5 mil is solid bench fodder though. Also remember that the promoted sides invariably over perform at the start of a season.
July 15 at 8:55 pm
Round and Round says:
Aye if u plan to bench him often then he is a good option. Striker spots are too value for me tho, no way im risking one on pog
July 15 at 8:58 pm
Pork Pie Sausage Roll says:
That’s a fair enough point tbh.
July 15 at 8:41 pm
Tommytour59 says:
Its GW3 that worries me, if you have 3 Chelsea and him you have to ensure your subs have good fixtures.
July 15 at 8:36 pm
SouthCoastSaint says:
Although he is value Pog is still a risk. Haven’t seen enough of him
July 15 at 8:36 pm
Round and Round says:
Not me. Front 3 will be Torres, Aguero, Bent.
July 15 at 8:42 pm
Tommytour59 says:
Would prefer this one ^
Are you looking at Wazza for GW2?
July 15 at 8:45 pm
Goaltastic says:
I’m going Torres, Wazza, Bent
July 15 at 8:47 pm
Tommytour59 says:
I just don’t know if I can go without Kun for GW1, would worry me like hell.
July 15 at 8:51 pm
Scroobius Mac says:
Tevez Bent Torres/Defoe for me.
Pog is, according to PBJ, awful. And I trust PBJ.
July 15 at 8:56 pm
Tommytour59 says:
Tevez > Milan looks on the cards
Balo instead?
July 15 at 9:03 pm
Scroobius Mac says:
Probably opt for the safety of Aguero if Tevez does go.

Pork Pie Sausage Roll says:
So have FPL tweeted about more prices tomorrow or dare we dream that tomorrow’s the big day?
July 15 at 8:36 pm
Tommytour59 says:
They didn’t tweet Friday either but still released prices Sat, yet another tease from them.
July 15 at 8:36 pm
Pork Pie Sausage Roll says:
damnit. Cheers anyway
July 15 at 8:36 pm
Kagawa says:
They haven’t tweeted about tomorrow’s prices.
But they didn’t tweet about yesterday’s players on Friday – just announced Suarez, Dempsey and Walters out of the blue, so wouldn’t count on it being tomorrow.

July 15 at 8:53 pm
lebron85 says:
Also if you don’t mind asking.
Which pairing of CBs are regulars for these sides?:
1. West Ham
2. Reading
3. Soutahmpton
4. Wigan
July 15 at 8:57 pm
Pork Pie Sausage Roll says:
All I know is Wigan will probably play a back three of Caldwell, Boyce, Alcaraz, with Figueroa and Beausejour (I think) as WBs
July 15 at 8:58 pm

ajay_kl says:
Soton is Fonte + Hooiveld
West Ham is Tomkins + McCartney/ONeil/Demel
Reading is Pearce + Cummings
July 15 at 9:04 pm
lebron85 says:
Much appreciated. So only Tomkins is nailed on for them as a CB. Are Pearce and Cummings young CBs?
July 15 at 9:12 pm
ajay_kl says:
Doos should know more. I am only considering Tomkins/Reid for FPL. Reading I got no clue really. Think I am staying well clear of them
July 15 at 11:04 pm
IamIronMike says:
slightly wrong Figueroa played CB, with Boyce RWB and Beausejour LWB
July 15 at 9:00 pm

Hooiveld and Fonte nailed on for saints

The wife wins a game with a double 1 (son was on double 1 and me on double 2, to show our standard). 4 “the belly” vets wins 2,1,0 due to son’s bed time stopping play.

Borini at 7
July 15 at 9:03 pm

Not for first six anyway. Borini I think should be 8
July 15 at 9:03 pm
Gigging Order says:
Yeah I think you are right, 8 or 8.5 is more likely.
July 15 at 9:00 pm
Tommytour59 says:
Seriously tempted to be honest, Im a fixtures man and I see a lot of Blue. Went through good scoring spells last season, not very consistent but could leave him in your team for a good while and would give you money for an extra big hitter in midfield eg Bale.
July 15 at 9:04 pm
Hutton dressed as Lahm -FORZA JUVE!!- says:
Just not sure about Laudrup yet. Swansea will struggle to play the same way, though they do have great fixtures
July 15 at 9:11 pm
ajay_kl says:
Not putting as much emphasis on pre season form this year. Look what happened with NZog and Moses at start of last year.
How much you reckon for Graham?
July 15 at 9:13 pm
lebron85 says:
Correct! 6 or 6.5 max imo.

will be unbelievable if Carroll goes to Newcastle on loan. Wheres the benefit for Liverpool? Will Carroll really play ahead or Cisee or Ba?
July 15 at 8:57 pm
lebron85 says:
No benefit for Newcastle either, he will disrupt their attacking style
July 15 at 9:05 pm
Tommytour59 says:
The benefit for Liverpool is they don’t have to play Carroll
Toon have Europa so can imagine lots of rotation, good move for them imo.
