The Fantasy Flutter with Paddy Power – Gameweek 2

Filed under: Betting - Posted by: Money Mike

Amongst the ashes of the explosive opening weekend of Premier League football, we find the charred remains of the Flutter’s first betting slip. Each of our special doubles struck pay-dirt on one leg but pinched out on the other. But there’s gold in them hills, and this week’s Paddy Power special markets are set to help us find it.

After losing Gylfi Sigurdsson to Spurs and Brendan Rodgers to Liverpool, many believed Swansea’s football would be cagey at best early on under Michael Laudrup. Even the Dane himself would have been surprised at the ease at which his side picked off QPR last weekend, with his La Liga capture Michu the star turn. The Spaniard has attracted huge Fantasy investment this week, enjoying a 0.3 price rise in the FPL, and Michu goes into the home clash with a host of new owners. Michu to Score and Swansea to get a second clean-sheet of the season is a decent 15/2 with Paddy, and we’ll stake confident with £4.

Robin Van Persie is surely set to be unleashed against Fulham this weekend following United’s defeat at Goodison. Fantasy managers have, to this point, been hesitant to jump on board but an impact against the Cottagers would change that and have many a wildcard fluttering for Gameweek 3. A United cleanie and Van Persie to net twice is a respectable 13/2, but with Ferguson still testing the water and Van Persie perhaps limited to an hour of pitch time, we’ll only be backing a couple of quid.

Sunderland parked the bus at the Emirates with Martin O’Neill’s finely honed tactics enough to see them earn an unlikely 0-0 stalemate. Ricky Hatton look-a-like James McClean still managed to catch the eye and actually earned the maximum FPL bonus from the game with his contribution. McClean will surely get more freedom to attack against a newly promoted Reading side playing their third game in six days. With Sunderland buoyed by recent signings – Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson, we’re seeing a positive result for the Black Cats with McClean a central figure. Paddy have McClean to score anytime and Sunderland to get a cleansheet at 9/1, which is perhaps a little skinny for some, but we’re willing to risk our final £4 on it.

Is it madness to captain graham when I have Michu? Other safer options would be Torres, Bale. Since I don’t have united cover I thought I should gamble on Graham.

    Wilhelm says:

Hmm.. Gallas 5.0, Verthongen 1.5.. 1,5 would be a good saving, but dunno. Like more Verthongen and he is a bigger goalthreat with 8 goals last year in Ajax.

    What do you guys think?

      Mancini in a Mankini says:

I think Gallas should be safe for this game, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Caulker played against Norwich and/or Reading.

I’d say either BAE or Walker would be a safer bet.

Currently I am gambling on Verthongen, but I am slightly unsure…

Who do you think the best alternative would be if I do not want to risk it on Verthongen…? (another Spurs defender is uninteresting)

Can’t remember the last time the cap pole was so even amongst so many players. Could be a great week if you’ve got it right and picked RVP!

Agreed, really unusual to have such a lack on consensus.

Should make for an interesting week.
