A devastating hat-trick from Luis Suarez steals the headlines, adding his name to an ever growing list of strikers demanding our attention. Here’s the Stock Check from today’s games so far…

On the Up

Luis Suarez
We raised the alarm with Wednesday’s Watchlist article but didn’t quite have the balls to back the Uruguayan with a Scout Pick selection – a missed opportunity. Those who jumped on board a week early caught Suarez in bloom as he returned a second consecutive Carrow Road hat-trick. Suarez becomes the latest object of desire for our forward lines and will surely enjoy huge big investment this week. Chasing points? Perhaps, but Liverpool’s next two suggest there’s more to come.

Peter Crouch
Headline act in the Differentials this week, Crouch was another striker to come good and move his goal tally to four in six games. Always unfashionable, Crouch is undoubtedly effective and when Stoke’s fixtures improve, he will surely go on proving a very handy differential.

Demba Ba
The Senegalese striker is in relentless form, notching another brace to reinforce his blossoming CV as competition for spots in our forward lines continues to mount. Ba is now the league’s leading scorer with six goals while former hot-shot, Papiss Cisse, somehow struggles for Fantasy form alongside him.

Nikica Jelavic
And here’s another name to consider. While Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar tempted heavy midfield investment, the Croatian returned to fitness and goalscoring ways with an impressive brace as the Toffee’s form rolled on. Fellaini and Pienaar came away with disappointing blanks but their stock remains buoyant given Everton’s form and fixtures.

Steven Fletcher
The Scot continued his extraordinary form by firing his fifth goal for the Black Cats. Sunderland again struggled to provide him service and create too many attacking opportunities, but Fletcher is seemingly happy feeding off scraps and hugely effective.

Juan Mata
Monday’s Technical Area suggested that Mata was showing glimpse of last season’s form and today’s early kick-off saw that potential realised. The Spaniard overshadowed Eden Hazard with a goal and assist return in the win at Emirates to put us all on alert. Could he be emerging as a viable alternative to the Belgian?

Gervinho
The Ivorian is another mid-price midfield option who will have turned heads. Gervinho was, once again, pushed up in the central striking role by Arsene Wenger and again repaid that faith by notching the Gunners’ goal – his third league goal of the season. We’re still wary that his start is insecure but Gervinho remains a tempting short-term punt.

The Sunderland Defence
Martin O’Neill’s side are hard to break down and navigated their way to their second clean sheet of the season. Sunderland have conceded just two goals in their last three matches and their mid-price defensive assets are destined for plenty of attention – not least Simon Mignolet, who climbed to the top of the Watchlist rankings this week. It might be best to let next weekend’s City trip pass before considering investment, however.

Going Down

Eden Hazard
A third consecutive blank for the Belgian will now have his owners fidgeting and pondering alternatives. Juan Mata’s returns today suggest that they might very well be one close by.

Abou Diaby
Such a key figure in Arsenal’s encouraging start to the season, the Frenchman sustained a thigh injury that forced him off with reports suggesting that Arsene Wenger has indicated that Diaby faces at least three weeks on the sidelines as a result. While Diaby is perhaps not a key Fantasy figure, his absence could impact those around him. It certainly did today.

Per Mertesacker
The German has been in outstanding form and was beginning to emerge as an unlikely option in an improved Gunners defence. Today’s teamsheet from Wenger, however, strongly indicated that Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny remain the first choice pairing.

Reading’s Budget Options
Danny Guthrie, Alex Pearce and Chris Gunter were strong budget options but all three failed to regain their starting roles after the midweek Capital One tie, with Guthrie and Pearce finding themselves on the bench for the 2-2 draw with Newcastle. Adrian Mariappa, Shaun Cummings and Jimmy Kebe are perhaps new names we can consider, but there will be concerns on rotation from this point on.

Swansea’s Form
Michael Laudrup’s side slip to their third straight defeat, conceding seven goals without reply. Their Fantasy potential has slipped dramatically at both ends then, as Laudrup’s honeymoon period comes to an abrupt end. Two favourable home fixtures may well offer respite over the next two Gameweeks.

Wayne Routledge
The winger maintained his starting role last weekend, despite the introduction of Pablo Hernandez, but today, Laudrup dropped him to the bench as Nathan Dyer and Leon Britton returned to the starting XI. It’s clear that Swansea’s wingers are set for rigorous rotation and Routledge is no longer a secure budget option.

Joleon Lescott
Dropped to the bench as Roberto Mancini started with Matija Nastasić alongside Vincent Kompany in the City defence. Lescott’s starting role is clearly far from secure with Nastasić and Kolo Toure the threats. City are still without a clean sheet after conceding at the Cottage and patience is surely wearing thin, despite the obliging fixtures to come.

  1. *Bale to Hazard on previous post, not the other way!

  2. .. Just looked at my score for the first time this afternoon.

39pts, Demel to go + Bale bps.

    How did everyone else do?

    1. 39 + 2 to go + Ba bps

    2. 33 maybe 5 bonus points

    3. 43 with Fletcher and Ba 3bp's hopefully

    4. 44(-4) with Morrison & Demel to go.

      1. OMG..totally same here...44 -4 with two of them...lets hope for a morrison goal or assit and demel CS!!

    5. 40 with nelson to go. Struggling

      1. me too

    6. 41(-4) all out. Jellp baps and assist to come

    7. 47 with Nelsen, Nolan and Hoilett left, pleasantly surprised.

    8. 48 pre bonus. Hopefully Silva, Ba, and Fletcher get something

    9. Shocking, 22 with only Foster to come. Worst gameweek... Ever!

    10. 70 demel to go

  3. so where r u all giving me all shit about getting in Suarez this week??? Get in!!!

    1. I wasn't :D

  4. Is RVP > Ba/Suarez mad?

    1. Not at all...

    2. It's really tempting, but when there are so many RVP owners, it's also very risky. I'm keeping my trigger finger in check right now.

  5. Bat's price till next week?...

    1. Oops it's Ba

    2. Well said

  6. Got told I was crazy this morning for bring in Suarez for Tevez and making him my captain. Nuff said.

    1. Cool story.

    2. You got lucky :-)

    3. Even the blind chicken finds a worm from time to time. On another note- link your team and than come back to gloat! :)

    4. I doubt they meant you were actually crazy. How you feeling about it all now?

    5. I see wat u did there

    6. Who plays you in the film?

    7. well done! Im thinking of t/f tevez now for Suarez or Torres.

  7. Might just wipe out my front-line for an 8-point hit. Get Suarez/Jelavic/Aguero.

    1. yeah do it. I might WC

    2. hmm.. dont tempt me. You think Suarez is a good pick? He's very wasteful..

Should i triple everton with Jelly?

      1. Jelavic's quality. It was only his injury that kept him out of my side. So now I'm stuck with Berba, Tevez and RVP. I can see Tevex and RVP starting next weekend on the bench, giving me no strikers.

        1. RVP benched away to Newcastle seems very unlikely to me.

    3. The good thing about using the WC is it removes that temptation every week

    4. I would say that doing it the week before an international break is a bad idea, but I did mine before the last one and it worked out fine.

  8. For next week, can do a straight swap Tevez > Suarez and still save an FT for after the break:

    Foster (Bego)

Baines - Boyce - Rangel (Demel, Nelsen)

    Bale (c) - HBA - Michu - Nolan (Hoilett)

RVP - Suarez (vc) - Demba

No Chelsea players may hurt but there's going to be a lot of big scores next week and covering them all would be costly come the week after.

  9. Anyone know why Puncheon didn't play today?

    1. simply rotated

      1. seems crazy to rotate a form player...

  10. It might be time to get rid of Marveaux :(

    He's served me well

  11. Would you make these transfers for a 4 point hit?

    Hazard + Berba + Henderson> Mata + Ba + Begovic

this would create a squad of:

    Jussi Begovic

    Baines Jenkinson Davies Demel Gorkss

    Bale Mata Santi Michu Sterling

    RVP Tevez Ba

...I could alternatively do 2 FTs and wait to do Henderson>Begovic

    1. I'd do it minus the Hazard move.

    2. Wouldn't bring in any Chelsea tbh they are all gonna have quiet weeks

  12. "West Brom can hop above Man United with a win tomorrow"

    1. I hope they do. Will teach United a lesson that you always start a match at your best. Can't rely on comebacks always.

  13. I will ask this again. Is Caulker nailed on until BAE returns? And how long is BAE out for anyway?

  14. Surely, SURELY!! Rooney and van Persie will play together from now on, at least for most of the games!? Not sure what that will mean for Kagawa but United can't not have two world class strikers leading the attack

  15. Okay, i've officially had it with Papiss Cisse. Who is a viable alternative? I'm thinking Jelavic.

  16. Got 1 FT and thinking of getting rid of one of: Rangel, Hazard, Kacaniklic or Tevez
Worrying about game time for the latter three in the coming weeks. Who would you get rid of and for whom?

  17. Quick poll: Torres or Suarez?

Getting one in next week, Luis's fixtures look better after that but he's still Suarez and Chelsea have Norwich...

    1. I have Suarez and he'll probably be pretty confident after putting 3 away. Torres is Torres, but Norwich did have a 'mare at the back today.

      1. They were poor last week in the cup as well even though they scraped through. norwich are in trouble just now.

    2. Still suarez? And Torres is? Suarez has still scored 20 goals in 50 games for liverpool....81 in 110 for ajax - hit the post more times than id like to remember last season - Once he gains confidence, he wont try so hard to hit the corner. He is tops in shots taken and if they start finding the net he can easily win golden boot. So saying he is still Suarez is pretty biased....hes still one of the most dangerous forwards in the world and just about any team in the world would want him on their side.

  18. Currently have front 3 of RVP/Lambert/Berb. Need to transfer Berbatov out. 3.8m in the bank. Who to pick?

    A) Aguero
    B) Tevez
    C) Ba

    1. Aguero if you can afford him

  19. Morning All!

Woke up in utter disappointment at the performance of everyone in my team. And the I see Surez(C) and Sterling.

    YNWA

    1. Yeah. He saved my arse this weekend as well

  20. Worth a 4 point hit?

RVP and Tevez -> Aguero and Ba

  21. Anyone who gets rid of Hazard ahead of a home game to Norwich needs to be punched in the face. I haven't had him all season, but it's the height of knee jerk point chasing.

This is in no way negated by my an above post implying I'm shipping out Tevez, totally different :o

    1. +1

    2. SHHH

  22. +1

  23. New Post.

  24. is it time to let Tevez go?

    1. I'll be swapping him out for Aguero.

  25. I need a 5.8 pound defender or less for Lescott to get in Aguero? I was considering Mertesacker. Surely, Kocielny blew his chance after that performance.

Already have: Baines, Rafael, Clyne, Demel.
Maxed on Everton and West Ham

    1. Consider Gibbs or Rafael. I will go with Gibbs.

      1. Sorry, didn't see Rafael in your team.

      2. Gibbs best choice - arsenal are defensively worlds above yesteryear and he is very involved in attack. Can play him just about every week

  26. Bale or Santi Cazorla?

    1. flip a coin - but the truth is that Tott home to Villa may be too easy a game for bale - he seems to explode for points against tougher opposition.

  27. Which striker do people think will do week in the next week out of: Suarez, Crouch, Jelavic?

    1. Suarez hands down. Jelavic and crouch will have a hard time.

  28. Torres for norwich anyone. Conceded 5 twice already this season. ?

    1. In past years, I would be all over that, but at end of day, I wont have a player on my team that costs that much and Im not willing to captain when at home to norwich. Of course he can explode for points, but too many options with just as good possibility that dont cost that much.

      1. Nah. If im bringing him in its for the armband, A good choice this weekend i think

        1. it makes sense - i would only bring him in if for the armband. Good luck

“I love to attack and I love to go up front...It is a little more difficult than when you are playing centre-back. If you play the way that I want to play, I think my influence is better as a left-back. For the team, it is best that I play as a centre-back. I like to bring the ball out. You need to move the game quickly, and that is one of my qualities as well.”
