Sky Sports Focus

Our Sky Sports Fantasy Football community come into focus on Fridays, having given the Fantasy Premier League frontrunners some oxygen way back when Gameweek 7 came to a close – a distant memory. As always, we focus on the top of the Scout League, track the latest movements in the Sky Sports transfer market and check on Fenners and Merse before tonight’s Fantasy Football Club episode…

The Scout League

There’s movement on top of the Scout League, with Jonathan Lenharth toppling long-time leader, Paul Hennessy, to nudge back to the summit. Jonathan’s “BetterThanLastYear” lineup nicks the lead by six points with a total of 488 points. That’s enough to place him in eighth place overall, a full 28 points behind the leader in the race for the 25k top prize.

Ben Salter is settled in third place in the Scout League, with Gary Paterson and Chris Tuck breathing down his neck. Scout contributor Andy has slipped to 24th spot in the league – a decline, but still a fine showing.

Fantasy Football Scout’s top five still sits comfortably on top of the Private League leaderboard – with a ten point gap on the league in second.

A reminder that if you’re playing the Sky Sports game and have yet to join our league, you can sign up to the FFScout League with this Pin: 8004519.

Market Forces

Santi Cazorla was the apple of our eye in this week’s ScoutCast and, it seems, our enthusiasm has leaked across into the Sky Sports transfer market. Arsenal’s Spaniard has been the most popular target over the international break, claiming over 6% of the transfers in since Gameweek 7 drew to a close. His goal and a third man of the match award of the season at West Ham, no doubt whipping up the enthusiasm for a player who looks well placed to reward investment for a modest fee of 6.7 in this game. Cazorla is now in the top five most owned players, with over 26% of managers acquiring his services.

Cazorla’s team-mate, Carl Jenkinson, goes on attracting suitors who are either oblivious to the threat of Bacary Sagna or confident that the young full-back will retain his start in the coming weeks. Jenkinson ranks second for “transfers in” this week with Chelsea pairing Branislav Ivanovic and Petr Cech coming next. With Leighton Baines in fifth, it’s significant that four of the top five targets this week are defenders – a reflection of the value they are currently offering in this game.

At the other end of the market, Carlos Tevez continues to top the transfers out as frustration builds on his recent rotation and lack of returns, although he is clinging to a 24% ownership, second only to Robin Van Persie who has amassed 38% coverage amongst the forwards.

Fantasy Football Club

Out of position Fantasy Football hero, Ryan Taylor, shimmies into the studio with Fenners and Merse ahead of Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby for tonight’s episode of the Fantasy Football Club. You can clock in from 10pm tonight and look out for the ITK’s tips for the weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

i think rotation may seal the deal for hughes over cuellar.

i do have a sneaky suspicion that wisdom will secure right back and liverpool have a nice run of fixtures of the medium turn but perhaps i can afford to wait a few more weeks before taking that gamble.

      Yep:

Martin Jol has confirmed that Dimitar Berbatov will return from injury against Aston Villa. However, he will miss a penalty and hit the bar 3 times, saving all of his goals from Gameweek 9 onwards.

Jol has been Berba's coach when at Tottenham.

Petric could take them, so could Berba, but there is no way you can come to the conclusion that petric WILL take penalties.

    - City cover is a must
    - Hazard is the obvious choice over Mata

It's definitely not a must. You could find the points elsewhere plus there is such heavy rotation at City that there are few stand out picks.

So Jack if yo had the money for Aguero would you still avoid? I have 11.1 million to spend on a third striker and am thinking of bringing in Suarez this week, Aguero next. Alternatively, just put Aguero in now. What do you reckon? Avoid all together?

I had planned for Suarez > Aguero, but I have Gunter in defence and would like to upgrade Nolan after the next few fixtures so I think Berbatov is the better choice. It really depends on your situation and how much you need to invest elsewhere. Aguero will score well but he is a luxury I can't afford.

Nolan for me, City is a home game where Nolan is performing well (should have had his 4th in 4 against Arsenal but missed a sitter) and as you know I really don't rate Yaya.

in on wildcard. I have Berba and RVP, am happy with the rest of the team behind them Have exact money to have Aguero. However, if I go for a cheaper option Ba/Suarez etc... there is funds to do Nolan to Mata in two weeks.

I'd personally prefer Mata/Ba but that's because they are who I plan on having. I like the look of Ba, he only has 1 or 2 poor-ish fixtures up until GW15 and is nailed on at the moment.

Aguero/Nolan has its up side though, really close call just go with your gut.

I can make arguments for Mata's only goal this season being a lucky one as well. But there's no denying Mata isn't as clinical when it comes to finishing.

Hazard's penalties will bring him goals. Or assists through winning penalties.

City Cover would probably normally be a must but so far their defence has failed, Silva has not taken off and their strikers are even more of a minefield this season. So yeah I would agree they are not a must right now because it's a lottery.

They won't be must haves though, Kompany is one of the most expensive defenders in the game and offers less than half the threat going forward of Baines, Rafael or Ivanovic and Kun is an 11.1M rotation risk, I have little doubt he will be rested in one of the next couple of home games.

I've got a free transfer but i'm worried he might drop more. Also i would bring in pienaar instead and have got Kaka to play this week if fellaini doesn't play

What team are you building mate?

I have an SPL/Scottish team. Ireland and Dundee United CB Gunning has been quality for me. Got him for about 1k. And Zaliukas the CB for Hearts. Same price range again. Both quick, strong and solid with good heading.

i still have Szczesny and Gibbs in my starting 11 was hoping that they would both be fit for Norwich. 🙁

I have Jussi and either Demel or Gorkss coming in as their replacements.

    Question?
I have already used my FT is it worth taking a hit and getting another player in to replace them for this week.
or do I just bite the bullet and hope they are back in action next week?

Szczensy is out for 3 weeks I think, not sure on Gibbs. Not worth a hit though.
