The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Six – Ghost Ship

Ghost Ship – a Fantasy Football team picked for the first Gameweek and then left to drift without a crew or rudder for the rest of the season. It would stand to reason that such a vessel would hit the rocks and sink without trace. Sometimes, however, they can navigate an unlikely route to glory.

Tell us about. This latest episode is a timely one given the time of year and it’s a “Ghost Ship” lineup, “managed” by the most unlikely member of the team to be up amongst the top ranks that takes up a good proportion of our time, leaving Granville and myself pondering the meaning of it all.

Around all that, we both manage to find the motivation to bring you the regular topics with the concept of “chasing points” coming under discussion, alongside “all aboard”, the weekend preview and a long tale of Granville’s injury list. Ouch.

                Gervinho is first out of the door. Not only is he injured, he's also dreadful and makes my Kolarov punt look like a genius move.

                Ba and Berbatov are worth sitting on if they're injured. Anyway I await team news tomorrow, especially if Jol continues with his blonde analogies

      Well, if you don't do the transfer, you'll still manage to field a decent back-three. And it will also give you 2 FTs for next week. I don't know if you would want that, but Demel is still a few days from falling, so no rush.

      On the other hand though, West Ham have quite a few hard fixtures up ahead, and do the transfer now, and you get Nelsen for RDG. All in all, I say do it. 😉

          Nah, don't be silly, it's all good humoured. To be honest, we don't mind admitting we're just two blokes talking about Fantasy nonsense but that is the general idea. We don't try to force it too much and hopefully, we're typical of most hardcore players who have a rivalry going on between mates. I've listened to podcasts on all kinds of subjects and, to be honest, I think ours is definitely in the "okay" ranks by comparison.

    An earlier post prompted me to analyse my (c) choices so far this season. 4 of my 9 choices were bad, in the sense that there were other plausible choices and those other choices scored much better than the one I made.

    The best part: 2 of those four were bad because I should have picked RVP; the other 2 were bad because I PICKED RVP. In other words, on this admittedly small sample the "always captain RVP" rule has not been proved.

    I will still be giving RVP the armband this weekend. 🙂

      It's been 3 times burned by RVP for me. I captained RVP against Wigan in gameweek 4 and he scored 1 point. I captained him in gameweek 6 against Tottenham at home, he scored 5 points. And again in gameweek 7 I gave him the armband against Newcastle, and he scored 4 points. You conveniently forget these when you hit it right and he gets 15 x 2 but these 1, 4 and 5 pointers really hurt when, as you say the other "plausible option" scores 6-10... A large part of this game is down to the (C) which has a pretty big element of luck.

      Valencia is really tempting me as well with United's upcoming fixtures. Was originally planning Cazorla -> Valencia next week, but just noticed how many goals that have been scored in the Arsenal-Spurs matches, might keep Cazorla through that.
