The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Six – Ghost Ship

Ghost Ship – a Fantasy Football team picked for the first Gameweek and then left to drift without a crew or rudder for the rest of the season. It would stand to reason that such a vessel would hit the rocks and sink without trace. Sometimes, however, they can navigate an unlikely route to glory.

Tell us about. This latest episode is a timely one given the time of year and it’s a “Ghost Ship” lineup, “managed” by the most unlikely member of the team to be up amongst the top ranks that takes up a good proportion of our time, leaving Granville and myself pondering the meaning of it all.

Around all that, we both manage to find the motivation to bring you the regular topics with the concept of “chasing points” coming under discussion, alongside “all aboard”, the weekend preview and a long tale of Granville’s injury list. Ouch.

    lol on scoutcast about the guy who say's he doesn't even really look at it at all. that's like my league but i reckon half of them are on here, probably right now. it's the very reason i don't link my team, just in case i'm caught putting any effort into this at all 🙂

      I still struggle to understand why some of the great comments come from people without linked teams. Sometimes undermines credibility.

      That said there are some people who continue to make comments who really should unlink how crap they are doing

    Anyone think its worth doubling up on Utd defence with their fixtures? Thinking Evans and Rafael.
    RVP will obviously be my 3rd united player. Can't see any value/ too much rotation in the midfield, and Rooney too expenive imo. What do people think?

      Can see a bit of rotation in defence as well once Smalling and Jones are fit. One defender would be enough I think, safer to got with for example Valencia as your third player.

    Has anyone else (other than Ibracadabra) looked at their (c) choices to see if it would really have worked to (c) RVP every week so far? I am glad to have him, and will often (c) him, but I don't have much time for the whole "always (c) RVP" dogma.

    People worrying that RVP may be rested to protect him because SAF did it with Rooney should remember... Rooney was young and foolish and likely to lose his head. RVP is older and wiser and likely to lose his head.... 😉

    Im thinking of the following transfers:

    Fletcher to RVP

    Ben Afra to McAnuff

    Pienaar to Sterling

    Hangeland to Hughes

    Only one free transfer but I think I will take the 12 point hit. RVP could even pay it back this week but will definitely repay it over the next few weeks anyway. Would you take the hit or play the wildcard?

          I wouldn't bin hangeland and get another Fulham defender, look at Stoke or Sunderland defenders. Why do you have to get RVP this week?

              Rather than take a 12 hit I would either WC or do cazorla to dirt cheap midfielder and RVP in for Fletcher. You have got 4 decent midfielders so can afford to have a cheapo. Benching someone from that front 8 must be hard work anyway.

            Not really in that I would have so little to spend I couldnt improve the defense. In a few weeks one of my current players might lose form and I will get in someone cheaper and fix the defense at that point.

          Just a much more efficient comments system. The current one is wordpress out of the box code which is bloated and doesn't allow us to add features like voting, profiles, stickies etc. Because we have such high volumes of comments, we have to be mindful of the overhead on code. Therefore we're building this as custom code from scratch to plug into this site and any site that wants better comments than wordpress provides.

          We've got a prototype running and already it's like lightening and far less intensive on our server than our current code. That means we can now add features to it. The feature list will hopefully increase community involvement, promote those who make great and informative comments and start to bury and hide those comments which receive negative feedback, just through other users voting. We're also buillding a whole new sign in process that will give users one login for this site and members and give everyone a profile page which they can use to retrieve their recent and top rated comments and replies etc.

          Lots of ideas and plans. Long way to go but it's our number one focus now.

      I don't think you needed to use your WC, your team was ok.
      Take Rooney and Taraabt out put in Berbs and Pienaar or jelly and bale if you can afford it

      I am personally playing both. Very tough, but I'd go Michu. Playing at home, up front against a Chelsea defense that's missing JT and Ivanovic. He had 2-3 great chances away at City. He is in great form.
