Spot the Differential

Spot the Differential – Gameweek 38

One last throw of the dice. If desperate times call for desperate measures, then the “Differentials” offer a potential route to success. For the final time this season, we target two goalscorers in form, while our third contender looks set to lead the line in a must-win fixture that’s at the centre of Sunday’s one remaining issue.

Clint Dempsey

Tottenham’s American international will go into Sunday’s encounters with clear motivation and the incentive to seek out goals. Andre Villas-Boas’ outfit have to go for three points against Sunderland at the Lane to maintain their hope of edging Arsenal for the remaining Champions League spot.

Dempsey will surely retain a starting role having notched goal and assist returns in the vital win at the Britannia, with Villas-Boas singling him out for praise in his post-match comments.

While Gareth Bale is the obvious selection from the Spurs midfield and, along with Daniel Sturridge, the favourite for the Gameweek armband, Dempsey is a would-be replacement for those selling on the injured Eden Hazard, who are ready and willing to double up on a fully motivated Spurs outfit.

Gabby Agbonlahor

The Villa striker’s form has been nothing short of sensational in recent weeks, at times even overshadowing the contribution of the mighty Christian Benteke. The big Belgian is absent from Villa’s trip to the DW Stadium on Sunday through suspension, leaving Agbonlahor to carry the burden of grabbing the goals that will see Paul Lambert’s side end the season on a high.

Agbonlahor is more than capable: six goals in his last eight league starts have seen the fleet-heeled striker offer exceptional value for his 6.9 price tag. With the Latics defence struggling to plug the holes created by a raft of injuries, Agbonlahor will surely fancy his chances of adding to his tally, with Benteke owners perhaps considering a straight swap on the final day to capitalise on Wigan’s charitable back four.

Olivier Giroud

Back from a three-match ban following a rather harsh red card in the Gameweek 34 win over Fulham, Giroud is set to be thrown back into the mix at St James’ Park with Lukas Podolski likely to switch to the left-flank. Arsenal make the trip to the North-East needing three points to keep Spurs at bay as their North London rivals host Newcastle’s struggling neighbours, Sunderland.

Giroud has been a frustration this term, largely failing to fill the yawning void left by Robin Van Persie. He’s nonetheless sparked on occasions to feature as a cameo performer in our Fantasy seasons. He may yet be a factor on the final day.

At just 7.3 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Giroud is available in the mid-price and is set to lead from the front for a team that needs to fetch goals and with Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla providing a stream of ammunition. Once again, then, Giroud’s returns will come down to his ability to convert the opportunities that come his way with the Gunners surely set to go on the attack. As a side note, Newcastle have conceded nine goals in their last two matches in front of their own fans.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    PLEASE BE A GOOD SAMARITAN!...

Fellow FPL manager in need of dire help...

I had swapped Nasri for Cazorla as my FT...

Just now I panicked over Aguero and Lukaku as back up...

I sold Lukaku and got Dzecko...

4 point hit! :/ ...Whilst chasing 30 points!...

...heads gone... now the dilema... I'm thinking of either:

    A) Benching Bale
    B) Benching Cazorla

There's every chance lamps or Kun won't feature but I expect at least one of them to.

    Myy team:

    Jussi,
    Sagna, Luiz, Demel,
    Walcott,Coutiho (v), Lamps, Cazorla,
    Dzecko, Aguero, Sturridge
    (Bale, Wilson, Marriappa)

I just figure i'm chasing differentials...I don't fear one bit if bale comes in but i feel he's tired and not fully healed and with the news filering around the stadiums when arsenal are spanking Newcastle, spurs will implode.

    Talk to me goose

    I took a 4

Who's got the armband though, benching Bale is bold, very bold. I'd go Dzeko myself to keep it warm.

I've improved my points in the three seasons playing this game (2065, 2146, 2118+gw38), but still only be ranked likely just in 20,000). What can I do next season to take the next step up?

Reduce the no. of hits u take over a season. Top players take less amount of hits as much as possible.

I think I took 7 hits this season - might need to see how many cost me points & how many I won on.

Maybe it is a matter of better capt choices & not leaving as many pts on the bench.

Spot on mate. My captain choices were good over the season but i had the same problem of points Rotting on the bench. Especially predicting cleansheets while doing rotation becomes a pain in the arse.

Captain choice is the biggest factor but not enough on its own. You also need differentials to come in quite regularly too to get a top rank. If you scrutinise your team selection you'll probably fine one of those two missing for many of your gameweeks. You only had three GW ranks better than 100,000 (if I saw that right). Top scoring like that more regularly and you'll be in the top 10,000.

major decision, tevez > sturridge for a 4 point hit?

level on points at the top of my league and we both have tevez. sturridge the better form, but would have to outscore tevez by atleast one goal to make it worth it...

Can't decide between Agbonlahor, Podolski and Carroll (or any other striker), any thoughts ? No problem with budget as I'm replacing Rooney.

    Unfortunately, cant afford RVP 🙁

Already have tevez, sturridge, bale, walcott, michu.

    OK, here is my team

    Fabs (Foster)
    Nasty, Clichy, Jones
    Wally, Mata, Bale, Santi (Fella)
    Adebayor (V), Sturridge (C), Kone

My rank is 16,500 so I'm not going anywhere.

Should I bring in a differential like Hernandez / Agbonlahor / Carroll, do Fella to Michu and bench Kone, or save the 4pts?

    A) Hernandez
    B) Agbonlahor
    C) Carroll
    D) Michu
    E) Stick

    Thanks

last minute decition: Who to capt?
    a)Bale
    b)RvP
    c)Walcott
    d)Cazorla
    e)Sturridge

I think my ML-rival will do either Bale or Sturridge as cpt, so I am leaning towards b or c if not any of you talk me out of it.

    Alright lads, chasing 25 points

Likely lads for the armband - Bale, Sturridge and RvP.

Leaning towards RvP as leader doesn't have him? Wise or Woeful?
