Martyniak Claims FPL Crown

Congratulations go to Matt Martyniak who, on a dramatic final day, claimed the Fantasy Premier League crown by just three points after the Gameweek 38 bonus points settled matters.

Matt, a veteran Fantasy Premier League manager, has competed in the game since the 2006/07 season and had previously recorded an impressive finish of 707th back in 2007/08. A recent arrival in the Scout community, he was just two points behind Kelvin Travers, another Scout league member, at the end of 90 minutes. However, it was the bonus points from Liverpool’s 1-0 win over QPR that proved decisive. Matt earned a total of five points via his Gameweek 38 signing, Philppe Coutinho, and left-back Jose Enrique which eventually saw him topple Kelvin at the summit.

That pairing ended the season topping our classic league with Evs finishing third and fifth overall and former leader, Julian Zipparo in fourth and sixth in the overall rankings.

Congratulations again to Matt and all our Scout League members who enjoyed such successful FPL campaigns and to all our FPL managers who helped to make the community so active, knowledgable and friendly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

UCL: Looks like Hummels is out for the final. They've gone a bit wayward since reaching the final haven't they? I'll be Munich top heavy anyway I'd say.

I think it was a transfer that many did out of fear more than anything else. It reminded me of the mass Bale>Hazard transfer a few weeks back. That's the only reason I didn't give him the armband.

After CL final I'll hopefully stay healthy to do some serious road cycling and in July there's Tour de France, but other than that.. totally empty and well, depression 😉

GF pretty happy there's only the CL final (and DFB pokal) left.

What was your season defining moment this season?

Mine was GW32 then GW33, where I ranked 111k then 6k for the weeks, thereby finally getting me out of the 40k area into top 20k overall, and managed to stay there. My only three digit score of the season! Good old RVP captain hat-trick vs Villa 🙂

My 2,145 points got me 33,433rd place this season but would have put me well inside the top 3,000 four years ago. What has changed?
Vice-captains have been introduced but that has not made any difference to my score this year as my first-choice captains (for better or worse) always played. Four years ago, you couldn't carry forward unused transfers, but again has that made such a huge difference?

The best players were very consistent this year! Almost every (active) team had Bale, RvP. Suarez, Mata etc for the most part of the season while four years ago there were more decisions to make maybe and not as many consistent players? Food for thought

i think football has changed alot since four years ago, there arent many traditional strikers like rvp anymore, my team this year was all about my midfield, there were so many midfielders playing foward roles.

Well, yes and no. Four years ago, we had the mighty midfield triumvirate of Ronaldo, Gerrard and Lampard (plus Stephen Ireland - the Michu of those days). The difference is that it was extremely difficult to afford all three, but these days, money is no problem - jump on the early-season bandwagons on Sunday night and you can buy whoever you want by Christmas! You can no longer afford to wait for the team news on Friday before making your transfer.
it seems to me that there are two possible reasons why prices rise faster now. Either because the algorithm that determines price rises has changed or because (maybe thanks to FFS), there are many more active players now so the sheer number of transfers causes larger rises. In any event, this has made the game easier..
There is another reason why the game is easier - we now have an extra wildcard. How much difference this actually makes is debatable, though, and I think the extra wildcard could easily be scrapped, as nothing much happens in the winter transfer window these days..
One reason why having the big midfielders might be more vital now and is because the bonus points almost always go to goalscorers these days. Four years ago, the "man in the stand" would give bonus points to midfield generals like Arteta and Modric, so perhaps the points were more evenly spread over a larger number of players.
