Chelsea draw up to Old Trafford without a centre-forward but with a gameplan; they execute it perfectly. Jose Mourinho’s side defend stoutly to restrict United to scraps as Gameweek 2’s headline fixture falls flat.

The Game Changer

We were screaming out for a match winner to emerge, only to be left disappointed. Chelsea set out to stifle and frustrate United and succeeded in keeping them at arms length. Robin van Persie was starved of opportunities, Wayne Rooney, back in the United lineup, was restricted to long-range efforts. In an encounter billed as the first true heavyweight clash of the season, we were treated to a disjointed match, littered with misplaced passes and bereft of goalscoring opportunities. That won’t trouble Jose Mourinho and his determined defence.

The Underused

Rooney’s performance underlined what he brings to United. Strength, energy, craft and a goal threat – he will surely be a major player for Moyes, if, as expected he now remains at the club. Owned by under 2% of Fantasy Premier League managers, there’s no doubt that he has the potential to be a huge differential should he cement his start under Moyes and begin to show the form he demonstrated for periods of last season.

The Selection Poser

Rooney’s return to the fray will immediately pose questions over Danny Welbeck’s appeal. Having notched a brace at the Liberty Stadium, Welbeck has attracted big investment with over 90,000 having their head turned by the potential of United attacking player for 7.5. While Welbeck partnered Van Persie in a central role for much of tonight’s game, with so many options on the flanks and Shinji Kagawa to introduce, should he stay, Rooney would seem destined to tuck back inside on a permanent basis to renew his partnership with Van Persie.

The Dutchman’s owners will also be fidgeting at the prospect of Rooney’s return. Tonight’s blank would have come as a major frustration for those who handed Van Persie the armband and now, the prospect of Rooney emerging as a clear alternative in United’s attack will pose familiar questions.

A player of Rooney’s talent, offering coverage of United’s potential for goals, for 3.5 less – it’s a scenario that has to be considered by those with and without Van Persie. However, with so much to be decided in the transfer market in the next week and potential movement in and out of Old Trafford, the landscape could yet change once again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone know if Snodgrass is fit and ready this week? And should I think he's a better option than Whittingham? I don't think I do.

I've also done the same and think it's a sound move. No denying that Silva has been lively under Pelligrini and looks to be a part of everything, AND... his record at the Etihad is outstanding.

Sorry for the multiple "upvotes," still getting used to the site. While it's clear that Tottenham have a bit more steel in midfield, this is the North London Derby, not away to Palace or home to Swans. I think there will be goals, and Theo will undoubtedly play a part.

Arsenal looked like the best team in the league this weekend (Going against Fulham, yes, but still) and Theo was really unlucky not to score. Couple that with the traditionally high scoring derby and the lack of other options (Liverpool play United, Chelsea have a blank, City strikers are rotation risks) it looks like the best choice to me. If I had Aguero or RVP I'd go with one of them, but since I don't I gotta hope Theo delivers.

Also, Spurs two clean sheets came against a newly promoted Palace and a tired, defensive Swansea. I think they'll be good with with the new additions, but Arsenal will be a bigger challenge.

Now let's see if Arsenal ever make a move.

Are 4.0 keepers with high or low ownership less likely to drop in price? Or do we know with the new system of price rises and falls?

Higher ownership less likely to fall, depending on news of course. But since there are no playing 4.0mill keepers as far as I know. Everyone knows what they're getting.

Do a sort of the GK @ 4.0 & transfers in either GW or season. Daniels is pretty popular atm.

Got a plane to catch in a few hours, while I intend to come on here to check on things later in the week I'm not certain I'll have internet access so would appreciate any comments on this:

    Mignolet
    Toure, Shaw, Murner, Collins
    Walcott(vc), Silva, Mirallas
    Negredo(c), Soldado, Lambert

    Lewis, Williams, Chester, Lampard

3m in bank, saving a transfer of getting JWP in for Williams

Obviously the captain is a risk but I'll try and come on here for team news later in the week.

I think Negredo has an equal if not better chance of starting over Dzeko, but yes you'll have to keep your ear to the ground! I like it though...initially I'd have said captain Walcott, but as someone pointed out earlier, Arsenal face a new-look Spurs side that seems to have tightened up in defence. Everything seems in order 🙂

Negredo won't start, 100% guaranteed. I wouldn't captain someone who will get 20 minutes, 25 at most.

Saving the transfer makes sense James as I don't see any immediate holes in your team. Williams will become a starter shortly.

The only issue for you this week will be that if Shaw is injured you will get Chester off the bench with -1 after Dzeko's 5 goals.

Thoughts on Silva for the long term? He's a great player. The formation's not the best, but with attack-minded tactics and Navas rather than a player stealing his goals on the other side, he could do well. Also on half the corners. I certainly can't sell him after next week if I've already got him, can I?

Ha, I was toying with going in with three Che defs at one stage. Part of me wishes I had, though I seem to have dropped lucky with the mids I picked anyway. Still, a Che defender or two is looking like a decent investment after the blank.
