On a night that saw Jonjo Shelvey play a part in all four goals, we witnessed Michu notch his first of the season, while Daniel Sturridge maintained his relentless scoring streak with a fourth goal in four games. With Victor Moses impressing on debut and injury concerns surrounding Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez, Monday’s encounter offered plenty for Fantasy managers to consider.

The Game Changer

Michu’s sweetly struck half volley from Shelvey’s smart knockdown issued a timely reminder of his talents. Up until tonight, Michu was amongst an array of several heavy hitting midfielders who have failed to live up to their pre-season billing. While Philippe Coutinho continued to toil without returns for Liverpool before being subbed with a shoulder injury, tonight’s strike from Michu promoted him in our thinking.

With Pablo Hernandez potentially sidelined with a hamstring problem, Michu stands out as Swansea’s key attacking asset as they embark on a run of friendly league fixtures in the weeks ahead. Having dropped to 8.9 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after a run of sales, Michu may just be set to replicate the kind of form that saw him strike 18 goals from midfield in his debut season.

The Underused

A cult hero on these pages, Victor Moses announced himself to his new supporters with an encouraging display and a debut goal. Having suffered limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Moses is set to be given the freedom of the Liverpool left flank by Brendan Rodgers and his pace, power and trickery troubled the Swans all evening. With an eye for goal and the likes of Sturridge and Luis Suarez to convert his supply, Moses is owned by less than 1% of Fantasy managers but already looks good value at 6.2 in the FPL.

The Selection Poser

There were two notable absentees from the evening’s teamsheets as both Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez missed out. Liverpool’s Danish defender picked up a knock in training on Sunday which saw him sidelined – he is expected to return to the fold for the home clash with Southampton, however. That would signal a shake-up in the Liverpool back four which currently has Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Mamado Sakho and Andre Wisdom battling for two starting berths.

Hernandez’s situation is less certain. Michael Laudrup confirmed a hamstring injury prior to the game and stated that the Spanish winger could be out “for a week or two”. Hernandez had enjoyed an outstanding start to the campaign, attracting sizeable investment which had led to a FPL price hike to 6.2. Seemingly a major doubt for the trip to Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen if his owners hold firm ahead of Swansea’s favourable schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    HBA -4 or Lampard?

The funds from the move would also be able to fund Negredo to Rooney next week.

i have lampard and tempted to get Ben Arfa in, but I'll be sticking for a home game against Fulham. But if you can't find funds elsewhere for the Rooney upgrade...why not.

Yeah I'm really split. It's the only way to get HBA without another hit as Eriksen and Walcott are my only other 7m+ mids.

I could upgrade Pab and downgrade Ivanovic but that sounds like another unnecessary -4 to me, especially since I'd back Ivanovic for a cleanie.

Yea selling ivanovic definitely not a good hit.

I'd stay put in your shoes. Hold lamps, save the transfer for next week. Get in Rooney and if you need to find it by selling Lampard, at least you're in a better position to judge I hope.

Last night's game through up a few problems.

    - Toure's days now look numbered if Sakko and Syrtel are going to start
    - Coutinho blanks again
    - Michu back on form with great fixtures to come
    - Moses, 6.2. Talk to me.

Agger is in the mix too. Kolo might play RB until GlenJo is back though, Wisdom looked out of place. Of course Kelly might play too.

      Agreed on Michu

Moses. Wait and see if he is an option upon Suarez's return. There's a chance Rodgers might favour henderson.

Coutinho > michu looks like a solid transfer

Toure could easily play this week and get a CS. If you have someone on the bench, might be worth risking it rather than taking a hit. Maybe could then get Wilson (OOP at Stoke) next week. If you still want to get him out this week, I'd go JT.

Not so sure about Eriksen like everyone Jafster. Will have to gauge him after Lamela and Lennon are back. So much uncertainty about Spurs at the mo.

I'd think so. Bar an occasional rest (which could be subjected to anyone including Ivano), he's the main CB in the eyes of Mou.

Silva & Nolan are now Barfa & Michu

        Plan

Convert Turner into a premium defender (1.7 in the bank)
Barfa -> Eriksen/Lamela once CHE is out of the way.

Williams stays as its alright having a non playing attacker this season. Much rather have a cheap defender coming in to play if need be.

Should I be conserned that now that Walcott's been mentioned my entire offence, past and present, (bar Sturridge) has been mentioned?

My overall rank says that I should.

If I don't wildcard soon I'll twist in this order:
          Lambert (for Giroud)
          Nolan
          Soldado
          Mirallas
(Schneiderlin - huge mistake, but struggle to get rid because of more expensive problems)

Hazard and Silva have already been twisted.

Well they all have great potential but are just out of FPL form. Many of them have good underlying stats (check shots in box and chances created in the members area under stats).

I have Nolan, Mirallas, Silva, Lambert and Soldado from that list and I am only really concerned about Silva and Lambert, the latter mainly because of the other great options I'm missing out on (e.g. Benteke, Giroud, Rooney)

Good to hear that wiser men than me can have very similar teams to mine.

I'm starting to think that stats can be as much a hindrance as an aid this early in the season. This is the second season I'm going "stats heavy" from the off, and the end result in terms of points is again going from bad-ish to worse.

Nolan - twist, would be sticking if WHU actually were scoring goals
        Snod - twist
        Mirallas - twist
Hazard - Stick (as long has keeps being nailed on for Chelsea. Will end season with a score higher than 170points. probably closer to 200
Coutino - stick (will produce well from the hole, even more when Suarez back. Good fix as well)

Lamb - twist (better options even though they cost more)
Soldsdo - stick (got to score +15 goals at least this season considering the offensive potential in Spurs, PK's as well as he if course needs a few weeks to get settled into the best league in the world. Nailed on striker who will produce)

Berbs -sell. Better optionS. Bent a disadvantage to Berb

Nolan - twist (no Carroll means no knock downs + poor-ish fixtures)
Mirallas - 50/50 (out of form, but still scored for Belgium over the international break + nailed-on with Pienaar injuried)
Silva - twist (ideally dumped before stoke though)
Coutinho - twist (over-priced IMO. Not enough of a goal scorer either)
Snodgrass - twist (Redmond offers better value)
Hazard - stick (still the most likely Chelsea attacking mid to deliver on his promise + most nailed on)

Lambert - twist (too many in form foward options + Osvaldo to steal thunder)
Soldado - stick (nailed-on striker for potential top 4 team + proven his class for every other club he's played for)
Berbatov - twist (same as Lambert + Bent will force him deeper)

I'd also add Lampard to the list (fear of rotation proved only too real, getting older and missing more pens in recent times)

I tend to agree with those, although I think Nolan and Snodgrass are hard done by, since in reality they can't be expected to do well every week at the price they are, especially when Nolan has outscored everyone on the list (if I'm not mistaken).

Sticking my neck here and you can catch me if it fails. He looked in incredible touch. Kacaniklic is back and he was very attacking. Could have scored a hatty. (HE scored 2 goals which were called offside).

Thank you all for the help:

          Will do Pauhlinho to Michu

and next week switch Sturridge to Suarez and Coutnho to someone else.

          Cheers

2 CS of them stayed on my bench this week, lesson learnt. Never bench Coleman
Collins at home is solid too.
      Should play both

I'll be playing Coleman. Sold Collins with my WC due to the WHU fixture list but if I still had him I wouldn't play him against Everton

Get him in. He's a great player. Better than Henderson who he'll replace in the line up.

Curse you Kolo Toure for throwing my defense into uncertainty. Agger is number one pick. But who will play along side? Toure is ahead of Skrtel in my opinion but the new bloke will have to get games too. Too much uncertainty now for Toure so I'm afraid it's going to have to be thank you and goodbye.

    My teams suffered this week.

I did silva to ozil ft

Now is it worth getting rid of coutinho for -4 & if so who for?

I feel like lampard due to hard but goal friendly fixtures. Or hazard?

Put off by michu due to europa and swanseas small squad.
