Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Galling

A couple of Frenchman are set for a short stint on the sidelines after falling foul of the referee’s wrath over the weekend’s fixtures. Mathieu Debuchy and Mathieu Flamini received their fifth yellow cards of the campaign, meaning both are set to serve a one-match suspension in Gameweek 12:

Debuchy’s caution in Newcastle’s 1-0 win at White Hart Lane will force him out of the upcoming home game against Norwich as Alan Pardew’s side go in search of a third successive clean sheet. The right-back’s absence is a real blow to the Tyneside team – he has played every minute of the season so far, though the versatile Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa could deputise, allowing fit-again Fabricio Coloccini the chance to slot in alongside Mike Williamson in the heart of the backline.

Flamini has certainly show a flair for racking up the cards since returning to the Emirates this summer. The holding midfielder has received five cautions in just 511 minutes’ game time – his absence for the upcoming visit of Southampton should see Aaron Ramsey shift back into the double-pivot alongside Mikel Arteta, after the Welshman was moved to the right flank once again away to United yesterday.

The Suspension Tightrope welcomed a number of new faces in the Gameweek gone by. West Brom duo Jonas Olsson and Claudio Yacob, Hull’s defensive rock Curtis Davies, Fulham’s Scott Parker, Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic and Norwich’s Michael Turner all climbed aboard on Saturday. Sunday’s matches saw Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, Spurs centre-half Michael Dawson, City’s Javi Garcia, United utility man Phil Jones, Stoke centre-half Robert Huth, Swansea pair Chico and Angel Rangel and Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko also earn their fourth bookings of the season.

Only four clubs – Liverpool, Cardiff, Palace and Southampton – are not represented in the updated widget on your sidebar, which now heaves under the weight of 23 players.

In terms of ongoing suspensions, Sunderland pair Andreas Dossena and Lee Cattermole will sit out the second of a three-match ban in the upcoming round of matches– both will be available for the Gameweek 14 visit of Chelsea. Swansea stopper Michel Vorm makes a return after serving a one-match ban in Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Stoke.

Need some help guys. I have a few concerns about my squad.

    - Boruc, with his upcoming fixtures, is going to need replacing next week. I can play Harper at home to Palace this week.

    - I want to get rid of Chico because he's one booking away from a ban but, more importantly, I'm not convinced Swansea are going to keep many clean sheets in the near future.

    - Januzaj. Just got him this week and, although his no show at the weekend meant I got Ravel's points, I'm not sure I want someone who's only going to feature intermittently.

    - Oscar. Wondering if I made the right choice between him and Hazard or if there are better options out there fir a similar or even lower price.

    - Sturridge. Although I'm not concerned about having Sturridge, I do feel that Suarez is the one who's going to get the lion's share of the points between them, and I really want to get Rooney in.

Any suggestions about what to do? Full team is below.

    Boruc, Harper
Clyne, M. Turner, Chester, Chico, Terry
    Oscar, Ozil, Ramsey, Ravel, Januzaj
    Aguero, Suarez, Sturridge

If you want Rooney, I think Sturridge has to go.

Yeah. It's going to need a downgrade elsewhere to afford him. Don't mind taking a -4 if necessary. Was thinking Chico to Rat but not sure how effective West Ham's defence is without Reid.

Your team in pretty good shape
Boruc / Harper should get you to jan WC, at least that's what I am planning
Chico, perhaps wait for the ban unless he can help fund Rooney
Jan, agree he is becoming a liability, exit plan needed soon, wasn't it always likely (I have him too)
Oscar, could have gone either way with hazard, still might in the future. Still a decent prospect unless you want to free up Rooney funds in which case a nasri or sess trade is an option
Sturridge, time to lose. Suarez is the future, double up limits your captaincy options each week.

Not sure how much help I will be here but will have a bash.

Boruc, there is no need to get rid of IMO, he is a season keeper at his price. Ok a few short term fixture problems but you have Harper for next gw at least. Waste of a transfer really.

Chico, I almost got him this past gw. I still think Swansea can keep sides out regardless Of Sundays result. 4 yellows, a ban will come and a bit of luck it falls just before the gw you will bench him.

Januzaj, seen as you only got him this week, that same threat of no shows existed when you made the purchase. I would stick by him until you have a luxory transfer or wildcard, not much below in price which you'll need to free up funds.

Oscar and Hazard will always be a have I made the right call when 1 gets a haul and the other blanks. Sure he got out scored this week, could be Oscars turn next. They are both good picks and probably won't be much between them at the end of season points wise.

Sturridge to Rooney seems a good move. Think Sturridge and Suarez is overkill although there is a few nice fixtures round the corner. Just need to find who your comfortable losing to free up the funds to do the move.

Cheers mate. Probably needed to hear some of that. Starting to overthink certain things. 🙂 I had planned to get rid of Sturridge the week after I got Suarez in for his first game back, but they were both scoring well so I stuck with them. It's clear now that Suarez is the one.

    ACCOUNTING ON CHRIS
    • 10 Years
    10 years, 6 months ago

As I like looking at the past, and I have nothing better to do with my life, I figured i'd do a little analysis of the next few fixtures (relating to potential captaincy choices),

The following fixtures will be analysed:

    1) Arsenal VS Southampton
    2) Chelsea VS West Ham
    3) West Brom VS Aston Villa
    4) Man city VS Tottenham
    5) Liverpool VS Everton

    (Which is a fair few...)

    1) Likely captains - Ozil/Ramsey

Arsenal have scored 7 in the past 2 fixtures VS Southampton (3.5Gpg)
Arsenal have scored 11 in the past 5 fixtures at home (2.2Gpg)
Southampton have conceded 4 in the past 5 fixtures away from home (0.8 per game)

Average number of goals expected - 1.5 (2.2+0.8 over 2)

    2) Likely captains - Hazard/Oscar

Chelsea have scored 5 in the past 2 fixtures VS West Ham (2.5Gpg)
Chelsea have scored 14 in the past 6 fixtures at home (2.33Gpg)
West Ham have conceded 5 in the past 6 away from home (0.8 per game)

Goals expected - Similar to above - 1.5

    3) Likely captains - WBA Sessegnon, AVL Benteke

    WBA Point of view:

WBA Have scored 4 in the past 3 fixtures VS Aston Villa (1.3Gpg)
WBA Have scored 6 in the past 4 fixtures at home (1.2Gpg)
Aston Villa have conceded 3 in the past 6 fixtures! away from home (0.6 per game)

    Average expected - low - 0.9

    AVL Point of view:

Aston villa have scored 3 in the past 3 fixtures VS WBA (1gpg)
Aston villa have scored 5 in the past 5 fixtures at home (1gpg)
West brom have conceded 4 in the past 5 away from home (0.8 gpg)

Also expect 0.9 here - Bet on 1-1?!

    4) Likely captains - Aguero

Man city have scored 6 in the past 3 fixtures VS Tot (2gpg)
Man city have scored 20! in the past 5 fixtures at home (4gpg)
Tottenham have conceded 1 in the past 5 fixtures away from home (0.2gpg)

Expect 2.1 goals from Man city

    5) Likely captains - Suarez/Sturridge/Cout if you're a lunatic...

Liverpool have scored 7 in the past 4 fixtures VS Everton (1.75gpg)
Liverpool have scored 13 goals in the past 6 fixtures (2.17gpg) however - 11 Goals in the past 3 fixtures with Mr Suarez (3.67gpg)
Everton have conceded 7 goals in the past 6 fixtures away from home (1.17per game)

    Expect 2.4 goals from Liverpool

May help some of you decide - however I feel this will be a rather low scoring week where a captain will only score one goal...

Suarez comes out the best choice, however his traveling is rather off putting.
Aguero is also quite a good option, but Tottenham away record is equally off putting (only 1
    in 5)!

Feel free to correct any mistakes in the comments...It got a bit longer than I thought & I am tired haha

What are you guys doing for captain next week? I am probably going to go for a differential captain or Ozil/Haz ard.

Apologies for no man utd analysis... I forgot them haha. Tried doing the analysis to identify a stand out. It failed. Roll a dice guys 🙂 repost as lost at bottom and took ages haha

Means every attacking player 'you' have is a captain option
      1) Oz/Rams vs In-form Sot def(3 goals in last 5 away games), Giroud -STRIKER-, No Lambert/Lallana - In-form vs Unconvinced Ars def.
      2) Morrison - Home team vs Leaky Che def(8 goals in last 6 games), No Eto'o -STRIKER-.
      3) Too risky.
      4) Kun vs In-form Tot def(1 goal in last 5 away games), Negredo/Nasri - oh right 'you' don't have them.
      5) Lukaku - Striker vs Leaky Liv def(7 goals in last 4 away games).

*Remy - In-form(7 gaols in last 7 games) vs Leaky Nor def(14 goals in last 5 away games).
*Rooney/RVP are the best captain option next week, Period.

***CORRECTION TO CHELSEA VS WEST HAM***

Turns out I failed with my captain analysis (got west ham vs chelsea the wrong way around)... Therefore, correction below:

Chelsea have scored 10 goals in the past 5 fixtures at West Ham,
Away from home so far this season Chelsea have scored 4 from 5 games (0.8gpg)
At home so far this season West Ham have conceded 7 from 5 games (1.4gpg)

Seems chelsea have been pretty dire away from home so far... but if they bring some nice form with them then West Ham may concede a couple!

Does this line suggest the Derby fixture has been analysed with Liverpool mistakenly at home?

I personally like it as he is the best differential around. At the same time Lukaku should do better in the next 2 home games. Maybe saving this transfer and just going Luakaku to Roo in 2 weeks might be the best idea.

Id only do this if your team is perfect in other areas

My team is perfect in other areas (not) 🙂

Yeah Lukaku got two tasty fixture at home. But he had 1 shots in the last 2 games. His team is not performing and soe does he. I don't know if I can hold him any longer.

              So between.
              a) Hold Lukaku for 2 weeks and switch to Rooney (no hit)
              b) Lukaku -> Remy (hit) -> Rooney
              c) Lukaku -> Rooney (hit).

              ?

Looking at potentially taking an 8 point hit this week, is that too much?

Definitely going Sturridge to Aguero for free, question is do I do either of the following for -4 each?

      A: Lukaku to Remy

B: Wilson to Bardsley (considering I have to play two of Shaw(ars), Coleman (LIV) and Dawson(mci) otherwise + bad fixtures week after, and it's long term move to get rid of non starter)

I might do a move like B but not A as well. Lukaku to Remy is not a hit worth 😉

Ah, looks like that word is banned!
