Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Galling

A couple of Frenchman are set for a short stint on the sidelines after falling foul of the referee’s wrath over the weekend’s fixtures. Mathieu Debuchy and Mathieu Flamini received their fifth yellow cards of the campaign, meaning both are set to serve a one-match suspension in Gameweek 12:

Debuchy’s caution in Newcastle’s 1-0 win at White Hart Lane will force him out of the upcoming home game against Norwich as Alan Pardew’s side go in search of a third successive clean sheet. The right-back’s absence is a real blow to the Tyneside team – he has played every minute of the season so far, though the versatile Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa could deputise, allowing fit-again Fabricio Coloccini the chance to slot in alongside Mike Williamson in the heart of the backline.

Flamini has certainly show a flair for racking up the cards since returning to the Emirates this summer. The holding midfielder has received five cautions in just 511 minutes’ game time – his absence for the upcoming visit of Southampton should see Aaron Ramsey shift back into the double-pivot alongside Mikel Arteta, after the Welshman was moved to the right flank once again away to United yesterday.

The Suspension Tightrope welcomed a number of new faces in the Gameweek gone by. West Brom duo Jonas Olsson and Claudio Yacob, Hull’s defensive rock Curtis Davies, Fulham’s Scott Parker, Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic and Norwich’s Michael Turner all climbed aboard on Saturday. Sunday’s matches saw Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, Spurs centre-half Michael Dawson, City’s Javi Garcia, United utility man Phil Jones, Stoke centre-half Robert Huth, Swansea pair Chico and Angel Rangel and Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko also earn their fourth bookings of the season.

Only four clubs – Liverpool, Cardiff, Palace and Southampton – are not represented in the updated widget on your sidebar, which now heaves under the weight of 23 players.

In terms of ongoing suspensions, Sunderland pair Andreas Dossena and Lee Cattermole will sit out the second of a three-match ban in the upcoming round of matches– both will be available for the Gameweek 14 visit of Chelsea. Swansea stopper Michel Vorm makes a return after serving a one-match ban in Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Stoke.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Gameweek Top Points Scorers:

    GW1 - Benteke (Away/Away) - 18
    GW2 - Campbell (Home) - 15
    GW3 - Davies (Away) - 16
    GW4 - Sigurdsson (Home) - 16
    GW5 - Baines (Away) - 16
    GW6 - Lukaku (Home) - 16
    GW7 - Reid (Away) - 15
    GW8 - Hazard (Home) - 18
    GW9 - Suarez (Home) - 17
    GW10 - Aguero (Home) - 18
    GW11 - Suarez (Home) - 16

With the exception of Benteke's double gameweek anomaly, the top point scorers away from home have all been goal scoring defenders - Baines, Reid and Davies.

Means nothing really. Or does it?

    Ivanovic (C) next gameweek...

Just 3/10 of top point scorers were from away sides. So, more chances for top point scorers from a team which play at home. You should captain home player. That's what I read.

Nah, not for a hit. If in doubt, captain Suarez, imo.

Can't see Arsenal scoring more than 2 against Southampton so wouldn't opt for a Gunner.

Citeh vs Spurs will be very tight, so wouldn't go for Aguero.

Chelsea will struggle at West Ham, so not Hazard imo.

You fancy keeping Lukaku ya? I'm in the same position think my midfield and front 3 are ok but not sure wether or not to take a hit at the back .. Especially seeing as I have Dawson and Ivanovic who are 1 yellow from a ban

I think Lukaku is fine. The derby is the kind of game where he will score. Plus he has Stoke at home the week after and they are not as tight as they once were.

I got Dawson at 5.2 so he could make way but I think double Sot is a bigger issue and I liked what I saw from Clyne against Hull.

Newc defence does not inspire confidence in me. Tot and Chelsea were just very poor in attack/fluidity. Mind you Tot did create a lot of chances and if it wasn't for Krul being superhuman on the day they could have had 5 put past them.

Villa doesn't do it for me either. But my defence does look very poor for the next 2 GWs.

My plan was to bring Rooney in this week. But seeing RVP take a single shot and Rooney create a single chance last week doesn't do much for my confidence about ManU's offensive ability. That single chance and single shit won't result in the same goal every week. Or should I write off last week's poor stats to Arsenal's D?

Rooney did have 3 shots though, and that is what you mostly expect. Had one clear cut chance he usually scores too. Roo wont be explosive like Aguero or Suarez, but should tick along nicely with about 17 goals 10 ast by the end of the season IMO. Rooneys need for games to keep fit and RVPs injury struggles also suggests Roo will be the one to own going into holiday period.

As I like looking at the past, and I have nothing better to do with my life, I figured i'd do a little analysis of the next few fixtures (relating to potential captaincy choices),

The following fixtures will be analysed:

    1) Arsenal VS Southampton
    2) Chelsea VS West Ham
    3) West Brom VS Aston Villa
    4) Man city VS Tottenham
    5) Liverpool VS Everton

    (Which is a fair few...)

    1) Likely captains - Ozil/Ramsey

Arsenal have scored 7 in the past 2 fixtures VS Southampton (3.5Gpg)
Arsenal have scored 11 in the past 5 fixtures at home (2.2Gpg)
Southampton have conceded 4 in the past 5 fixtures away from home (0.8 per game)

Average number of goals expected - 1.5 (2.2+0.8 over 2)

    2) Likely captains - Hazard/Oscar

Chelsea have scored 5 in the past 2 fixtures VS West Ham (2.5Gpg)
Chelsea have scored 14 in the past 6 fixtures at home (2.33Gpg)
West Ham have conceded 5 in the past 6 away from home (0.8 per game)

Goals expected - Similar to above - 1.5

    3) Likely captains - WBA Sessegnon, AVL Benteke

    WBA Point of view:

WBA Have scored 4 in the past 3 fixtures VS Aston Villa (1.3Gpg)
WBA Have scored 6 in the past 4 fixtures at home (1.2Gpg)
Aston Villa have conceded 3 in the past 6 fixtures! away from home (0.6 per game)

    Average expected - low - 0.9

    AVL Point of view:

Aston villa have scored 3 in the past 3 fixtures VS WBA (1gpg)
Aston villa have scored 5 in the past 5 fixtures at home (1gpg)
West brom have conceded 4 in the past 5 away from home (0.8 gpg)

Also expect 0.9 here - Bet on 1-1?!

    4) Likely captains - Aguero

Man city have scored 6 in the past 3 fixtures VS Tot (2gpg)
Man city have scored 20! in the past 5 fixtures at home (4gpg)
Tottenham have conceded 1 in the past 5 fixtures away from home (0.2gpg)

Expect 2.1 goals from Man city

    5) Likely captains - Suarez/Sturridge/Cout if you're a lunatic...

Liverpool have scored 7 in the past 4 fixtures VS Everton (1.75gpg)
Liverpool have scored 13 goals in the past 6 fixtures (2.17gpg) however - 11 Goals in the past 3 fixtures with Mr Suarez (3.67gpg)
Everton have conceded 7 goals in the past 6 fixtures away from home (1.17per game)

    Expect 2.4 goals from Liverpool

May help some of you decide - however I feel this will be a rather low scoring week where a captain will only score one goal...

Suarez comes out the best choice, however his traveling is rather off putting.
Aguero is also quite a good option, but Tottenham away record is equally off putting (only 1
    in 5)!

Feel free to correct any mistakes in the comments...It got a bit longer than I thought & I am tired haha

What are you guys doing for captain next week? I am probably going to go for a differential captain or Ozil/Hazard.
