Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Seventh Round Draw

We’ve reached the Seventh Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, as sponsored by Paddy Power, after 16 more teams were eliminated in the previous batch of matches. As we cast an eye over the weekend’s results and look to the next round, those still in with a shout should note that the upcoming fixtures will be played out over Gameweek 21 – the 10 fixtures on New Year’s Day do not count towards your points hauls:

Site regular Tony Hibberts Love Child squeezed into the last 16 by a one-point margin. Having won his tie 60-59, he now sits in 268th overall up – the highest-ranked manager remaining in the draw – and is up against Tdubb05 for a place in the Quarter-Finals.

Site moderator applebonkers is still in with a shout of snapping up the silverware. A 63 point-haul was enough to see him through last time around and earn him a spot against sim716 when the cup resumes in Gameweek 21.

The 2ndMan deserves a mention here. A tally of 72 points was higher than any other manager over the last round and sees him square up to 11 Men in Flight in the next round. Yes the Sess! racked up 71 points – the second-highest haul of Round 6 – and will now face FPLAaron, who, with an overall position of 464,000, is the rank outsider for the tournament.

Finally, Tal was the lowest-scoring manager to earn a spot in the next round after registering 54 points in Gameweek 19 – he now goes head-to-head with EricCantona_707.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Seventh Round details.

As always, we wish good luck to the final 16 as they brace themselves for battle!

Even if Gerrard returns against Hull with Allen injured if you apply logic, Sterling will play

Gerrard won't start but will feature, Sterling will not be dropped until Sturridge is fully fit so probably another 1-2 months

    Good evening my friends.

Just wanted to tell you that I updated the Rankings tab on the Gargatron to now show how far away from rank 5 000 and 50 000 you are, as I've seen some posts about that on here lately.

For those who had not noticed, as I'm not sure I posted when I first introduced the rankings tab, it shows how many points you have up to certain ranks. This version also shows which player you captained the most times, but that feature has been in place for a couple of weeks now and I, ehrm, might have posted about it before. I forget. It also runs a few seconds faster than the last version, although it's still slower than I would like it to be, unfortunately.

While I'm at it I'll just add, for those who have not seen, that the Gargatron is an extension for Google Chrome that shows some stats about your FPL team. I'll post a few screenshots of my current stats so you can see what it does. Install it by clicking the blue button in the top right corner that says FREE. Those of you who already have it will get the update automatically the next time you restart Chrome.

You can install the Gargatron here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gargatron-the-fpl-stats-m/kpbaoamnogjcokjojimpmbdkdgobdhoe
    Screenshot of stats tab: http://i.imgur.com/D0hWsRu.png

Sorry to take up your time if not interested. Happy fantasy footballing in 2014!

Yes, all scores related to captains are calculated from the captain you end up with, which might be the vice captain

        Hi Goaldigger

Good question, actually. I considered it but just thought that it's a rank completely unrealistic for most players.

Would not take long to fix. If you'd like that I'll happily add it.

Yeah I would personally like that. Maybe it's a bit unrealistic but if you are in say the top 10k now, it isn't impossible. So knowing how far off you are is quite interesting.

On the other hand it is quite easy to find out myself I suppose, just go to the overall rank and do the math. But it's nice to get the tidy overlook that's in your app.

Another stat that would be cool is to know how far you are from benchmark ranks in your own country. I have the Swedish top spot as a sort of personal goal to achieve once in my FPL career 🙂

I've added rank 1 to the rankings tab on your request. It will take a few minutes for the web store to upload the latest version but go to chrome://extensions and click update in 15 minutes or so and it will be there

              Enjoy!

My side is currently looking relatively solid and I don't think that using a WC in early January will result in a significantly different side.

My currently thinking is that I will delay until I pick up a few injuries, or to week 24 if nothing big crops up.

Which games weeks can you use the WC in, I'm thinking GW 21 to 24?

      I wouldn't take a hit there.

The way I see it, even if you expect your 11th player to 'only' get 2 points, you need Sterling / Kos to get 6 points or more to justify the transfer. That;s a CS / an assist. While it's certainly possible, its certainly not certain to happen for either player.

If you were to justify the transfer, it would have to be based on keeping the same team for the next 4 weeks or so until you use a WC in late Jan. It's then a lot easier to think you will gain back the 4 points over that period.

        Reasons??

See I look at it this way...

Hull beat liverpool 3-1, Hull are on form, Hull have a great defence and are set up really nicely, just won 6-0 and confidence is high! Suarez has drawn 2 blanks in a row, so slightly (ever so slightly) out of form. (Cant believe I just said that)

Cardiff lost 0-3 to Arsenal, Cardiff are out of form, haven't been looking good recently, have no manager at the moment, no leader at the club, lots of distraction behind the scenes, therefore possibly a low morale around the club??

Very good reasoning, I'll try to be the devil's advocate.

Yep, Suarez has two blanks in a row.... against City and Chelsea away, the most difficult fixtures possible. And even then he was dangerous as hell (and got the gift assist). Before that Suarez had 9 goals in 4 games. That is more than double of what Theo has managed in the whole season (4 goals). Liverpool did lose to Hull in Hull, vut Hull away is a difficult fixture and they did not have Coutinho, who has a huge impact on Pool's game, even that doesn't really show on the stat sheet. Hull has won 1 out of last 6 games they've played.

Cardiff lost 3-0 to Arsenal, that is right, but that was with Ramsey and Ozil and if you saw the Newcastle game, Arsenal looks much more tentative / defensive without Ozil and Ramsey (although I think that Arsenal are better without Ramsey because of his reckless style). Cardiff has won 1 out of last 6 games they've played (should've been 2 without the Sunderland meltdown).

Lads don't hold this against me but...

I may bring in Yaya this week for Ozil. 😯

    I can't believe I posted that.

I feel dirty. I'm off for a shower.

PS - Come on MVG (love the darts) 😀

        Silva > Walcott.

Option b is Navas / Nasri.

Evs, what's your thinking with maintaining your City midfield cover? 3 away games in the next 4, none of them easy, and City's away form nothing like their home form. Only curious, I realise you're no novice... 😉

Well ideally I would still have silva.

I need some city attacking coverage - I have none.

Navas seems to be scoring more points, but Nasri more nailed on.

Oh of course then there's 'casual' (lucky with the points) Yaya...

I'm guessing with so many on here now bringing Yaya in, the term 'casual' will be seen less and less though 😉

I guess you saying you need city attacking coverage is what I'm not seeing given the fixtures and away form, but I have a feeling you'll be proved right!

It's a case of the who now?

I think Navas is high risk / high reward.

I maybe the dullard and go Yaya or Nasri.

Well, I have Silva but nothing in the bank to help if I wanted to use my FT on strengthening my bench for this week, but if I had funds I'd go Yaya over the others I think.

Too much doubt over choosing Sterling for me.

      - Sturridge possibly back for Stoke (even if so on bench)
      - Liverpool definitely going to sign a quality winger (Salah almost done deal apparently)

Which two to bench out of:

      Januzaj (TOT)
      Gabbidon (NOR)
      Kompany (swa)
      Coleman (stk)
      Whittaker (cry)

thinking Whittaker and torn on Januzaj / Gabbidon.

I would hold on Nasty for the mo, not sure Demechellis impact (I know he's out at the mo).

I would go Kos and keep the cash for upgrades elsewhere.

Don't worry so much about the baps, go for the cleanies and the baps may just follow...

Not got either yet, but am getting both in this week.

You may be biased but come wc assuming he's back it's looking like

          Silva and Lukakaaaaa

          or

          Lallana and Aguero

          Leaning heavily towards the second

Aguero is a must if you ask me.

Not though about my wc team but...

Arsenal def cover, Coleman, Haz, Theo/Ozil, Suarez and Aguero are essentials.

Good one week punt for silva out of these ? (max 9.5) + any other recomendation
(have walcott hazard januzaj as other mids)

      A) Cazorla - With ozil ramsey out may play in the hole boosting attacking potential
      B) Nasri- same with the above + city cover
      C) Mata/oscar- little bit punty but may pay off handsomely if mourinho decides to rotate

Which defender do we think will rise the most in the next 3 odd weeks? I'm looking to make a quick buck with the Jan WC.

I think Coleman may be able to pull off a double to 6.7 by then, but getting to 6.9 looks unlikely. Any others out there?
