The Community Round Up

Time machines and crystal balls were engaged this week as the Fantasy Football Scout community cast aside concerns on the immediate fixtures to look ahead at the raft of missing matches from Gameweek 29. Those looming blanks dominated discussion but there was also time for a controversial post calling for the community to dump the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game’s top scorer, plus an array of threads assessing Ultimate FPL strategies. The week was also notable for the launch of a couple of new unofficial community competitions surrounding the Scout Picks and an exclusive tournament for our “Deadzone” posters.

The Hottest Topics

With most of the FA Cup quarter-finals in place, the community was this week left staring into the chasm that is Gameweek 29 and pondering how we can navigate the void left by a series of postponements. Among those to lead our community through the tricky ravines was PIPP who, quick as a flash, was on hand within a few hours of last Sunday’s games to give us the low-down on those active and missing in action from the Gameweek. His quick thinking made it one of the week’s most popular posts, as he dipped into an array of issues, including UEFA and Premier League politics. Highbrow.

Scoredelario was another of our Gameweek 29 sherpas. He provided a cautious warning about coping with the Gameweek of blanks via hits. He urged the community to avoid spending points on lightweight players merely because they have a fixture in place. Bsloebadger was also on hand to produce a great little blank fixture survival guide, complete with key options from the teams that are set to be in action.

Innsie’s team-by-team, player-by-player analysis on Gameweek 29 was another popular draw, with Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam among the unlikely names being discussed. We also offered a list of those who could be great captaincy options for the week.

Elsewhere, our resident Sky Sports game expert, “D1sable”, is also riding high in the FPL game this season. He took it upon himself to look beyond Gameweek 29 and towards the double Gameweeks that follow: his post on the long-term Gameweek 29 strategies is well worth a read.

Amongst this week’s most controversial posts was Giggs Boson’s incendiary discussion on whether now is the time to drop Luis Suarez. A string of goalless performances, including another today in the win over Swansea, perhaps provide a compelling argument. At the time, few of our community seemed brave enough to part company with the enthralling Uruguayan but the goal posts have been moved again by Daniel Sturridge’s Anfield brace this afternoon.

This weekend marked the kick-off of the Ultimate FPL game Beta. This new in-depth pursuit looks ideally placed for dedicated Fantasy managers and in our UFPL hot topic we asked what early strategies the community was looking to adopt. Meerlight offered a timely reminder on the wildcard after three Gameweeks, urging the importance of focussing on short-term fixtures.

The Community Tournaments

In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues we saw ENR, Bootsy, Jonty, Billy Ketsu, Jambo17 and Koneheads take top spots going into Gameweek 27.

Meanwhile, @ocprodigy has started a new game based loosely on our very own Scout Picks. His idea is for the community is to compete against each other with their own weekly picks. Plus, those who score more than the Fantasy Football Scout Picks will gain an extra point. The full rules and point scoring system are explained here.

In addition, Innsie turned up again with another proposed distraction, aimed specifically at those posters active in the early hours of the morning UK time. The “Deadzone” as it is affectionately known is always full of willing participants from many timezones and Innsie has put forward an unofficial FPL tournament dedicated to those good folk.

Finally, a reminder that our Paddy Power Cup and Members Cups are still open for entry – we will close the gates on qualifying tomorrow but, if you’ve yet to get your name in the hat, you can still get involved. Click here for details.

    Chester / Ward / Mertesacker / Coleman / Ivanovic
    Puncheon / Hazard (c)
Adebayor (vc) / Suárez / Dzeko

Shall I get rid of Dzeko this week for someone playing (Lambert) or wait till next week and get RVP? (through downgrading Mert).

        Mannone / Colback / Mata / Silva

I'm not sure about Lambert as I think I'd end up getting rid of him again in a few weeks time so it would be a wasted transfer. Sturridge is really tempting, but would rather RVP or Kun when he is back for the DGW's

It makes sense for LvG to get the Tottenham job after the world cup. Of course if Sherwood gets them in the CL then he could be kept on but this arrangement makes sense for both LvG & Tottenham

    Eriksen exit strategy

Following yesterday Eriksen's non-used sub situation, I think everyone convinced that Eriksen is out of favor right now. As I already set my team for GW29 with 11 player who have fixture, I can focus on Eriksen transfer out. As I keep my WC for GW31, I focus for following 3 GW.

    1) Norwich
Season ticker suggest Norwich has the best attacking wise fixture over 3 weeks. As it is mentioned before many times, Snod is midfielder with most shot, most inside the box shot and 2nd for most touch in the box after Hazard. So he is is the obvious choice. However I already have him so I need to continue.
    2) Chelsea
Season ticker suggest Chelsea has the 2nd best fixture. Again in last 4 GW, Willian has 2nd most shot after Snod. Usually Willian is regarded more creative player then goal threat. However with 5 shots in the box, he is 7th in midfield list. However we may expect a rotation due to CL game and I am not favor to double up along Hazard.

    3) West Ham
Hammers are currently 3rd in season ticker however we need to wait this evening if their Hull game will be scheduled or not in GW29. Nolan has an incredible conversion rate right now that makes us remember Ramsey’s early season form. 7 shots with 100% accuracy and 72% conversion rate makes him to get 5 goal in last 4 GW. I can consider him if West Ham game is scheduled.
    4) Southampton
Lallana here is the obvious choice. As already mentioned in an article, he has a consistency during all season. His goal threat stats in last 4 GW may not be eye-catching as the lads mentioned above however still have a considerable rates 6 shots in the box and 13 penalty area touch.
    5) Crystal Palace

Palace have the 5th best attacking fixture and a DGW is on the horizon. Looking Palace’s average map position Ince is the most advanced player in the team. With 5 shots in box and 29 mins per chance rate, I consider him as a good punt. And he is the cheapest one in this list that allows me the needed funding to go on RVP.

    6) Stoke
Final suggestion is Charlie Adam. He is nailed on for set pieces but if you look at his goal threat stats and average position I am not convinced at all. Still 6 shots on goal is respectable even though all of them comes out of the box.

Simple answer is that he's a fool 😉 Not very adaptable for making changes in match.
Maybe Capoue is injured? Also by all accounts Bentaleb wasn't very good yesterday either, neither was Chadli when he came on.
For me it points to him starting next gw, maybe wishful thinking tho! 😉

Snodgrass, I feel, is a player we pick because we haven't got much choice. He's the best one among the range but I don't see any good form. Apart from that, there's the fact Norwich have scored only 2 goals in the last 5 games.

As for Nolan, he's been incredible in the last 4 games but he's proved the ability to burn his new managers. If I were to bet, I'd go with Nolan if Hull loses tonight. Snodgrass will remain an alternative for now.

Seeing that the Hull - Brighton replay was rescheduled for a Monday, after both teams played on Saturday, is there any reason why the Liverpool - Sunderland game shouldn't go as planned, as it is scheduled for a Monday, and Sunderland can play their FA cup game on the Saturday?

I had been all fired up for Suarez > RVP from GW29. Fixtures and form seem to point to it. In particular, Liverpool's fixtures don't look to justify a double-up, whilst United are starting to look like they're shaking off the cobwebs.

      29 blank

Planning to WC in GW30 - which replacements would you get for Kolarov & Silva from the below?

    Szczesny
    Terry, B Davies, Kolarov*
    Hazard, Silva*, Mirallas, Lallana
    Suarez, Sturridge, Benteke

    Davis, Puncheon, Demel, Whittaker

      Chelsea defender and depressingly snodgrass
Leaves you enough to get RVP week 29 fixed up by your WC week 30 if you want SaS back though I would suggest to keep RVP through the DGW

Yeah, this is the current plan if HUL win tonight. Something like:

        GW28: Kolarov & Silva -> Ivanovic & Snoddy
        GW29: Benteke & Mirallas/Sturridge -> RVP & Noone/Lambert (4 points)
GW30: WC and load up on DGWers

I got Snoddy this GW and thinking Yaya -> Nolan this GW (if the game's not off). 58 pts in one week, wow, nice one keep it up!

This. Gaston was our only creative player on Saturday. I expect Lambert to make way for him at home to Liverpool or at least to nick 30 to 40 mins off him in the second half if we are losing.

Possibly not as biga disadvantage as you might think as in gerneral most deadlines will only give lineups for one game, not every game

Even when Eriksen was starting his returns were pretty poor, now hes not even getting a sub role when the teams 1-0 down to Norwich? Plus his value is dropping like a stone, and there are decent options around with Ince/Snodgrass

He has to go. And has for me, i'd advise any owners to do the same!

Those of us with or WC left, playing it in GW30/31 seems to makes sense given the imminent doubles post the GW28/29 blanks - with that in mind, which strikers will make the cut for you?

For me, I think it's gonna be:

1 of Suarez/Sturridge - fixtures aren't good enough to warrant both imo.

Aguero - an excellent DGW in 31 and the best captaincy option.

1 of RVP/Lukaku/Lambert/Remy/JRod. All have great short term fixtures. If not RVP then perhaps an Aguero -> RVP move in GW32 could be the way to go to catch the good United fixtures.

mun, TOT, whu & MCY are 4 of their next 5 from GW30 onwards - they are in great form, but I'm not sure they will score enough to justify having both over that period, especially when you consider fixtures for the likes of RVP/Lambert/Lukaku/Remy. Plus I think Aguero is a must for captaincy in GW31.

Tricky stuff, as I think i'll only be going with 1, but have no idea which!!
