Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 28 – Sunday

Christian Benteke bags a brace as Villa hammer Norwich. Robert Snodgrass is an early weekend worry after being forced off with a wrist problem. Roberto Soldado grabs the only goal of the game as Spurs squeeze past Cardiff at the Lane, whilst Jonathan de Guzman and Glenn Murray notch a goal apiece as Swansea and Palace draw at the Liberty:

Benteke at the Double
The big Belgian’s four-match drought ended in style yesterday as he helped Villa serve up an emphatic home win over Norwich. Benteke’s two goals and maximum bonus against the Canaries helped him to a 13-point haul – his highest tally of the season – and brought his recent record to five goals and a pair of assists in his last eight league matches. Whilst a blank Gameweek 29 and home clash with Chelsea the following weekend is enough for us to steer clear for the time being, the subsequent schedule remains kind for Paul Lambert’s side. With Stoke, Fulham, Southampton and Hull still to visit Villa Park, in addition to trips to Palace and Swansea, Benteke may yet have a part to play in our Fantasy plans for the run-in. Leandro Bacuna is another name worthy of consideration. Despite being fielded at right-back in a 4-3-3, he netted for the fifth time in the league this season yesterday and has now scored in three of the last six Gameweeks for the Midlands outfit.

Injury Worries Build for Hughton
The Canaries rolled up to Villa without two of the XI that started last week’s win over Tottenham. Leroy Fer was sidelined with a hamstring injury, whilst Ricky Van Wolfswinkel also missed out due to a knee problem – replacements Wes Hoolahan and Gary Hooper combined for Norwich’s solitary strike in the 4-1 defeat, with the former finding the net. Unfortunately for Chris Hughton, however, yesterday’s result was compounded by the half-time withdrawal of Robert Snodgrass. The Scot had notched twice in his previous three matches and had started to find form but was subbed off after picking up a wrist injury – his owners face an anxious wait ahead of next weekend, with our Gameweek 29 midfield options seemingly diminishing by the day right now.

Soldado Drought Finally Over as Sherwood Rolls Out a 4-4-2
In his first league start since Gameweek 24, the Spaniard was Tottenham’s hero by grabbing the only goal of the home win over Cardiff. Tim Sherwood kept faith in the system that saw off FC Dnipro in Thursday evening’s Europa League encounter, with Soldado partnering Emmanuel Adebayor up top once more and the Togo international was again in the points by supplying the assist for the summer signing’s strike. Sherwood may have missed the talents of Christian Eriksen due to a back problem but his defence once again stood solid and delivered a third clean sheet in the last five Gameweeks – a run coinciding with the return to action of Jan Vertonghen, with Spurs conceding just twice over that period.

Solskjaer Shuffles His Pack Again
The Cardiff boss continues to utilise the depth of his squad, though the results remain the same. Yesterday saw Solskjaer make six changes from the side that were hammered at home by Hull last weekend – the Welsh club lined up in a 5-3-2 formation, with Wilfried Zaha, Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Kenwyne Jones amongst those benched, whilst Craig Noone confirmed via twitter he was missing after picking up a slight knock. The 1-0 defeat may have restricted Spurs’ attacking endeavours but the result means Cardiff have now failed to score in six of their new manager’s eight games at the helm.

De Guzman Starting to Produce Consistently
The Dutchman is becoming an increasingly influential figure for Swansea as the season picks up pace. Yesterday’s goal against Palace means de Guzman has now scored or assisted in four of his last six starts – also picking up points against the likes of City, Fulham and Liverpool in recent matches. With Pablo Hernandez subbed off early with a recurrence of his hamstring injury and both Jonjo Shelvey and Michu still sidelined, de Guzman may turn out to be a real differential punt for those eyeing up the Welsh club over the next few weeks. Garry Monk’s side have a blank next weekend but, following that, clashes with West Brom, Norwich and Hull in the subsequent four may well appeal.

Murray on the Spot for Palace
Fit enough only for the bench after picking up a midweek training ground knock, the forward replaced Tom Ince at the break as Tony Pulis moved to two up top. The Eagles boss was rewarded after Murray stepped up to slot home a late spot-kick and deny Swansea the points, though much of the talk centred around the absence of Jason Puncheon. Unconfirmed reports suggest Pulis indicated that Puncheon was “rested” for the Liberty showdown but, given that the wide man had started each of the previous 14 Gameweeks, yesterday’s turn of events is hardly reassuring for those owners who were banking on his presence for the already decimated Gameweek 29 schedule next weekend. Ince’s half-time withdrawal hardly bodes well for his game time, either.

I was quietly mocking the bandwagon all last week, then I decided I might as well have another player for the next two games, at least it's a guaranteed 4 points ... looking like the same number of points as Silva for these two games

      Some wrist injury...

but he was not exactly a waste of transfer. 13 points from 3 games. Better than Sterling / Charlie [who would have been my alternate picks], albeit with a game in hand.

I'm goting to WC GW31 (might do GW30 if injuries/Aguero/Yaya price forces)
    So this week:

    a) Kos > Evra (seems to be the transfer of chocie on here)
    b) Kos > Terry (double up with Cahill and might get an extra 0.1 for WC too)

Chelsea double up for just 2 weeks is tempting...

    This game week:
Silva > Adam (or any other mid at 5.9, If Adam is suspended)
    Kosc > Dann
    Bony > RVP (C)
    (-4)

Yaya Is finally below 10.0 million and he's producing consistently more than Silva (who I've had for some time now) and is the perfect makeweight to getting RVP in this week and then I can move for 'free' scoring Yaya the next. I don't see Mata to be worth 9.6 million, after his West Brom game he's definitely gone for me to get Aguero. Plus United's DGW isn't exactly the best fixture or form wise.

Seeing lots of people considering Evra for the DGW but will he really keep a CS vs City? Even West ham will score imo especially with Carroll back. I think you're gonna be relying on attacking returns (but he is good enough to get those tbf) I guess the deciding factor is that he doesn't have a blank before his DGW

Yeah, I'm not very interested in their DGW but after that, United's fixtures are among the best and he has a lot of attack in him, especially with Moyes' focus on wing-play

It's hard to tell. His versatility is a problem (being used as a holding midfielder when the going gets tough). He'll always have a shot on him and he will score from time to time but for me, he's too expensive especially with other out-and-out strikers being both cheaper and in form.

Could go either way with Rooney but if I was to get anyone from their team it would be him, has scored well vs the Baggies, City and West Ham historically. Plus they don't have much to lose anymore as 4th place is gone so really they can focus a lot more on attack. I'm backing Rooney to get more short term points than Aguero (mainly cause I think Aguero wont play in all his fixtures)
I think I've just convinced myself to get him in instead of Aguero, certainly solves money problems and minutes

Chelsea fixtures also strong after DGW and Cahill, for example, could pick up 6 points in 4 of next 6 games for CS.

Say Evra gets no CS but few goals, posts should be about even with Cahill, but Cahill cheaper.

            So I can get Aguero!

Aye. I'm a big fan of going big at the back and I'm lucky enough to have enough team value for double Chelsea plus a City and United defender. But no way would I drop one of my Chelsea defs for Evra.

Yeah I was thinking Kos to Evra, but Utd just aren't good enough. I have Azpi who's giving me 6 points 70% of games, which is nice.

Maybe there is something in what he says, somewhere. I do sometimes get the feeling that black players are thought of, by the media, etc, as fast / powerful / "beasts" rather than creative / leaders / "good football brains" which is wrong

no Idea who to put in this gameweek as I currently only have 8 players that have a game but is it important to get that many extra players in as I know its a double gameweek for some players but they all end up with 3 games played each other than man utd who have 4 and then arsenal, everton, Newcastle, villa and Swansea who all only have 2

        my team is
        cech davis
        cahill shaw dawson Bertrand mcCartney
puncheon mata erikson adam Johnson and toure
        sarez sturridge and adebayor

with only 0.1 I have no idea who to put in???
        help meeee!!!

Lots of teams are going to be in tatters for this week. 8 isn't bad at all.

          Cech
          Cahill, Shaw, Dawson
          Puncheon, Mata, Eriksen
          Adebayor

Assuming Puncheon and Eriksen feature it's really not a bad lineup. Financially you're limited in what you can do and the upcoming DGWs limits who you'd maybe move, as say you turned Adam Johnson into Paulinho (not saying he's the way to go, just random guy that fills your budget with a game), you'd then want AJ back for GW31 probably and be using 2 transfers in total just to get back to the team you're on.

          I'd probably just hold.

I am searching for goalkeeper rotation for GW30 onwards. Can't find any decent option.

Best I can get is WHM-CPL: sun, (MUN HUL), sun, car, AVL, CPL, wba, TOT, ful

Anything better than that? Budget 9.5m

For this week can field 9 at the moment (assuming Gabbidon doesn't play). Have 1 FT and 3.7 in the bank.

        Evra, Cahill, Olsson, Gabb*
        Mata, Snoddy, Lallana, Noone, Hazard
        Ade

        (Adrian, Mannone, Kosc, Suarez, Sturridge)

What do you think of these suggestions? Any others?

        A) This week - Kosc > Lovren, this then allows
        GW 30 - Ade > Aguero
        GW 31 - Wildcard

        B) This week - Kosc or Gabb > Terry
        GW 30 - Wildcard

          it doesn't mata
if you have your wildcard left you can use up that one free transfer on a striker maybe Chelsea or a Southampton one and use the wildcard on the DGW but I would then put players from man city everton and sunderland as after that GW they will all have 2 games in hand on most teams

Need help. Considering chambers in for Demel for a hit. Would give me 7 players this week, plus the extra cash would let me get Aguerro in for Ade next week (but I think it might be better to wait a week and do that in gw31). However, I think Demel and Coleman are my only defenders with an upcoming dgw, so maybe I'd be shooting myself in the foot? I do already have Nolan though. Thoughts appreciated.

I just did shoot myself in the foot by doing Demel -> Olsson this weekend, after a long and har consideration. So Firm adive is stick to Demel, odds are they'll keep a CS against Stoke and Hull.
