Nemanja Vidic grabs United’s opener in a first-leg home draw with European champions Bayern. Sergio Aguero won’t rush his latest injury comeback, Emmanuel Adebayor is back in training for Tottenham, Loic Remy has a chance of returning for Newcastle this weekend, whilst Pepe Mel hails the importance of Graham Dorrans for struggling West Brom:

UNITED HOLD BAYERN FOR A DRAW

David Moyes was again giving something to cheer about in the Champions League last night, as Manchester United fought for a 1-1 draw with the reigning champions Bayern Munich. Moyes made five changes from Saturday’s victory against Aston Villa, with Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher, the injured Rafael, suspended Patrice Evra and cup-tied Juan Mata all making way. The under-fire boss fielded Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck up top and the experienced duo of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand in the heart of defence, with the former heading his side’s only goal from a Rooney corner. Ryan Giggs, meanwhile, was forced off at half time with a groin complaint.

The Scout Says: Could they pull it off? Whilst the top four now looks a lost hope United, last night’s dogged performance will mean they will still be harbouring dreams of lifting the Champions League trophy and qualifying for the competition next year. Should Moyes’ men indeed stun their German opponents in the next leg, however, those dreams will begin to have a genuine effect on the Fantasy landscape – Moyes’ attention will surely be focused upon his side’s European exploits, meaning rest and rotation will likely take their toll on United’s assets. The cup-tied Juan Mata of course remains immune to this, and with a goal and assist earned in last Saturday’s game the Spaniard could well be a key differential over the remainder of the season – though his lofty 9.2 price tag still remains an impediment. The situation regarding Wayne Rooney will also require monitoring; with three double figure hauls in last five games, the striker is riding high in our Watchlist right now and looked set to play a big part in our Fantasy fortunes in the coming weeks. With Robin Van Persie still sidelined due to a knee injury, it remains to be seen whether Moyes would protect his only in-form forward in order to keep United’s European dream alive.

Aguero Won’t Rush City Comeback

The Argentine admitted he is wary of returning to action too soon after breaking down twice with injuries already this season:

“With this recovery I am trying to do my best to be able to play again, but I cannot do it in a hurry. I do think to myself if something happens now, I will lose the rest of the Premier League season and the World Cup.”

The Scout Says: The Aguero news puts any plans for his immediate acquisition on hold. City still have two double Gameweeks remaining and play at the Etihad five times between now and the end of the season – fixtures you’d expect him to rack up the points, though having played just twice in the league since mid-December, his concerns are understandable. A continued absence for Aguero ensures Yaya Toure retains spot-kick duties, whilst Edin Dzeko owners will be a little more confident that the 6.9-priced Bosnian will hold onto his starting berth for now – certainly, three goals and an assist in his last three suggest Dzeko is firmly in the driving seat, with Alvaro Negredo scoring once in the last 12 Gameweeks by comparison.

ADEBAYOR BACK IN TRAINING

Tottenham have confirmed that Emmanuel Adebayor is back in training after recovering from a heel injury. Adebayor has missed Spurs last two Premier League fixtures with the problem but, according to Tim Sherwood, the striker could well return to the squad for next Monday’s game with Sunderland:

“We’ll continue to assess him as the week progresses and hopefully he’ll then be back in contention against Sunderland. He’s obviously been a big miss.”

The Scout Says: Having endured a 4-0 drubbing at Anfield last weekend, Sherwood will inevitably be eager to have Adebayor back in the frame. Reinvigorated under the current Spurs manager, Adebayor has accrued eight goals and five assists since Sherwood came into power at White Hart Lane, a run of returns that brought him plenty of attention around these parts throughout winter. Spurs have a cracking schedule to see them through the remainder of the campaign, and Adebayor, with a modest price tag of 7.7, could well be primed to reap the benefits against the likes of Sunderland, West Brom and Fulham and re-emerge as an alternative for our three-man frontlines before the season draws to a close.

PARDEW WAITS ON REMY

According to reports in the local press, Alan Pardew is hopeful that top scorer Loic Remy will be fit to face Man United on Saturday. Remy has been missing for Newcastle since picking up an injury on international duty in early March, but could well be set to make his comeback for the Magpies this weekend.

The Scout Says: With Pardew emphasising the need to freshen things up in his side, Remy’s return couldn’t be better timed for the Newcastle boss. Upon returning from suspension back in Gameweek 27, Remy notched in each of his two appearances before succumbing to a calf complaint and the Frenchman well be eager to make a similar impact upon his latest comeback. With only one goal in their last four games, the Magpies are desperate for a greater contribution up front and Papiss Cisse’s current stint in the starting line-up could be about to grind to a halt if Remy proves his fitness. The visit of Man United, followed by trips to Stoke and Arsenal in the next three, will be tough for the out-of-form Magpies, but there is no doubt that the 8.0 priced Remy, firing on all cylinders, has the potential to be the catalyst for a turnaround in fortunes for his side.

IRELAND AIMS TO END SEASON ON A HIGH

Stoke midfielder Stephan Ireland has discussed his recent performances for the Staffordshire outfit, and is keen to hang on to his starting berth for the remainder of the season:

“I perform better when I’m getting regular games, and I’m getting that. But the manager’s methods and way he wants us to play really suits me as a player. The team has done very well and hopefully now I’ve got myself back in the side, I can play every game from now until the end of the season.”

The Scout Says: Eight goals in their last three games have seen Stoke suggest they could be a surprise package for the rest of the campaign. Ireland, at just 4.4, has started each of the last two games he has been available for and, whilst he only has returned a single assist, has impressed in both for Mark Hughes’ in-form side. Charlie Adam was afforded a bench role against Hull last weekend upon his return from suspension, though it remains to be seen where Jonathan Walters fits into the equation – he has now completed a three-match ban and will likely challenge Ireland for his preferred position in ‘the hole’. Those looking for a real differential route into the Potter’s in-form midfield need look no further than the charismatic Marko Arnautovic – a run of seven starts, with a goal and two assists accrued in his last three, makes the Austrian a real consideration for those desperate to regain ground in their mini leagues over the remaining seven Gameweeks.

MEL BACKS DORRANS FOR THE RUN-IN

Pepe Mel has talked up the importance of midfielder Graham Dorrans ahead of West Brom’s remaining seven fixtures, insisting that the Scottish international is a ‘key player’ for the midlands outfit after scoring his first goal of the season in Saturday’s home draw against Cardiff.

The Scout Says: Three consecutive starts for the 4.4-priced Dorrans has been his best run in the West Brom team this season, with last Saturday’s goal scoring display rewarding Mel’s decision to back the midfielder after Chris Brunt was ruled out with a knee injury in mid-March. Although Dorrans may well now be a first choice starter for the Baggies, fixtures against Tottenham and Man City in the next four immediately reduce his differential appeal – showdowns with Norwich and West Ham do offer hope, though, before West Brom square up to Arsenal and Sunderland in double Gameweek 37.

It's hopeful, a doubt to do with Portsmouth being reformed -

"The only potential obstacle to them receiving it would be that they have effectively been reformed as a result of the periods in administration and ownership has changed from Portsmouth City Football Club, when the Johnson sale went through, to Portsmouth Community Football Club."

As a pompey fan myself, I hope it's true and Liverpool win the league....

At this stage, with so few games to play it may be the only way to significantly climb the rankings?

I read somewhere that Bayern would have part of their ground closed off in the return leg because of a homophobic banner their fans used in a league game. Looks like everything's coming up Milhouse for United if true. Place wont be as intimidating with less fans, that's for sure

                Gerrard > Silva for -4pts?

Just wondering if Gerrard is going to be benched vs West Ham because of the suspension risk. If i don't get Silva now i will do the same transfer for GW34 and also then for -4pts.

If your deciding factor in the move is you don't think Gerrard will start then I'd say delay it because he most likely will start and if they're winning come off early. I reckon he's due a penalty 😉

The southampton game looks tricky, but as my other keper is Boruc and Mcgreggor is out for the season, it seems a good move for the remainder of the season. Alternatively, Mcgreggor -> Harper and get Demicelis

That's my thinking too - advantage to owning Hart is you can play him every fixture til the end now, and barring injury, don't need a second playing keeper. He will slot straight in to a Boruc/Davis set up for example

If he starts, plays 60 mins and scores then everyone will be all over him.

If he comes on for a 10 minute cameo and looks as rusty as he did against Barca, no-one will touch him with a poopy carrot.

I don't think that's true. I think that's a journalistic distortion of what he meant. He could go to any club in the world but he's chosen to stay with City. When fit, he's given it his all in every game. I don't see him suddenly abandoning his club in the endgame of a title shot.

No I don't mean in that sense, its just that he's probably going to be much more cautious in the future (like he said in his statement) and I just think that the upcoming WC is going to compound his cautiousness.

Having said that if he's selected I don't see him not giving it his all in the game or going on Tevez like strike...

Ah, sorry, I read a word that wasn't there in your original comment 😳

I read: "tbf I think he's *only* really concerned about his WC"

Yeah, he might be a bit more cautious about the timing of his games but when on the pitch, he'll give it everything.

Gotta decide between a 3.9er or Harper alongside mannone this week with one of my 2 FTs. the 3,9er allows Aguero in with one FT next week.. Harper means 2 FTs need to be used next week. not sure what to do

If not having Harper is the only price of keeping your options open, I'd go with the 3.9er

You'd realistically only want to play Harper for this week, wouldn't you? And maybe the DGW but, really, that looks like one of those 3 point DGWs to me.

I'm going for a 3.9, this late in the season I think we only need 1 keeper. Personally think there won't be many points to be had from and

Add in Mannone's 2 doubles and I think him + a 3.9 is the way to go.

I think Hulls early season home CS record clouds the judgment a bit myself. They aren't as tight at home as they were early season and with not much left to play for, being mid table, there could be a chance players will slack off.

As I say can't see many points from any sub 5.0 goalkeepers and so I'll be keeping Mannone and getting a 3.9 for Boruc to free up cash. Tottenham aren't exactly free scoring at the moment and have strikers out so they as good a chance of a CS as Hull do this week imo.

Not worth having Harper in just for the Arsenal game imo.

                    Speroni
                    Olsson / Chester / Azpil

                    Boruc / Distin / AJ / Bardsley

                    1FT, 0.8 in the bank

Thinking I'm best to save my FT and then do Mata -> Nasri and either Olsson -> Demichelis or Carroll -> Dzeko with the 2FTs next week.. Would you agree?

Do posters prefer this time of the season when DGW's dominates (and narrows) the available picks(!)...or do you prefer business as usual with a wider range of punts and picks of the SGW variety as per the rest of the season ?...

Yeah, but it exempts form players at times...Rooney being a good example with a blank coming up as oppose DGW players.I prefer the purity of the regular season tbh...

Yeah you don't want to buy 11.0 players with blanks but I'm looking at gw34 as an opp, as I hope most people will blindly try to get DGW players making them overlook good picks like Lallana, Eriksen for example..

Very much prefer it without DGW's - I find they interfere too much with my 'natural' choice of players, and I don't like having a template team, which is what we pretty much all end up with after 2 DGW's

Yep...the template pool of DGW players is about a dozen picks...or at least that's how it feels. It effectively shrinks the game for the most part. Even those who stay calm and go for the form SGW players, in part, will probably still have six DGW players already in place from the same pool of players.

I find I benefit hugely from this period. The blank GWs too, I usually capitalise heavily on them and I tend not to lose my head with DGW punts so I tend to start getting myself into a decent position.

I think DGWs make it easier in some cases (this season especially) as the players can pick themselves at times.

You need to be more skilled with 38 SGWs.

                        Yaya Hazard Gerrard Snodgrass

Congratulations to the 8 managers who have proceeded in the CL and commiserations to those eliminated. There were a couple of epic matches as ENR became the first person to beat TM in the tournament so far, as their tie lived up to its billing as match of the round, with ENR triumphant by a single point!

Round of 16 action for Europa League continues this weekend while CL has the week off.

Imagine if you had a certain number of "Double Point Allocations" per season..

As in, you get 38 capatin choices but you don't have to use one every week.. That'd be mental..

Id quite like that actually. Only one capt max per GW though 😉

Then what would be the point in not using one? 😛

Max 2 captains per GW 😉

It would be beautiful for a GW like GW31.. Imagine having both Yaya and Suarez as captain.. 😯

Ah got you. I thought you mean out of the 38 GWs in only 20 of them you were allowed to pick a captain.

Then that entirely defeats the purpose... 😕

                        Hart
                        Baines Coleman Vlaar (Fonte Collins)
                        Yaya Gerrard Hazard Mutch (Colback)
                        Suarez Sturridge Lukaku..

thinking of doing Gerrard > Lallana after this week

any changes recommended? seem a decent enough plan?

anyone think butner is likely to keep a place in team?
nice cheap way into defence, not happy to spend nearly 6 on a united defender when they can let in goals against anyone at anytime. Plus jones is too ugly to go in my team

I think he deserves it but there really could be a shift in focus towards the CL, so you may find rotation in the PL.
