PlayON Player Picks – Gameweek 34 – £1,000 Guaranteed Game

Our Friday lunchtime player picks for PlayON, the weekly Fantasy Football game, arrives once again. Scouring the PlayON Price List for potential bargains ahead of tomorrow’s afternoon deadline at 13.07, we look to Southampton and Everton to bring home the points, with favourable fixtures against the bottom two on their respective agendas:

This week PlayON have a £1,000 GUARANTEED game on offer – you can pick your team to win the cash here.

If you’re new to PlayON, it is weekly Fantasy Football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built, you can compete for cash. You can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 52% win rate up to this point. You can also create an open challenge against anyone else on the site – just click the amount you want to play for and the number of slots (number of people who can accept your challenge) on the one-on-one page .

For a more in-depth introduction to PlayON, take a look at this season’s introduction article.

Goalkeeper – Asmir Begovic
Coming in at 8.8m, the Stoke stopper looks a strong contender for a clean sheet this weekend. The Potters have conceded just once in their last three at the Britannia and entertain a Newcastle side that have scored a single goal in their last five league matches and remain devoid of the services of injured top scorer Loic Remy. Alternatively, there are a couple of options in the sub 7.0-bracket if you’re looking for a cut-price keeper. Both Aston Villa’s Brad Guzan and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris are available for just 6.8m apiece in the PlayON Player Price List ahead of trips to Crystal Palace and West Brom respectively – Tony Pulis’ side have scored once in their previous three home games, whilst the Baggies have drawn blanks in two of the last five Gameweeks.

Defender – Leighton Baines
If you’re looking for a premium target, the Everton left-back could be the ideal purchase for tomorrow’s trip to Sunderland. With Gus Poyet employing a 3-5-2 formation, Roberto Martinez will surely overload the flanks to take advantage of the Black Cats’ porous defence – at 10.3m, Baines isn’t cheap but his delivery from the left is likely to pose the Wearsiders problems aplenty. Southampton’s highly-rated left-back Luke Shaw sets you back 8.7m this week ahead of a favourable home clash with struggling Cardiff. Mauricio Pochettino’s side go in search of their thirteenth clean sheet of the season, and bearing in mind the Bluebirds have scored in only two of their away trips under Ole Gunner Solskjaer, Shaw looks likely to pick up the points. Despite losing his right-back berth to Johnny Heitinga under new Fulham boss Felix Magath, Sascha Riether has still retained a starting position. The German has been shifted into central midfield in the last couple of matches and, costing only 6.8m in this week’s PlayON Price List, looks a standout budget enabler as the Cottagers prepare for the visit of a Norwich side that has failed to score in each of their last two matches.

Midfielder – Willian
With Eden Hazard rated a real doubt for Chelsea’s trip to Swansea, the competition for places has lessened a little. Despite grabbing a goal in last weekend’s comprehensive win over Stoke, Willian remains relatively budget-friendly at just 8.3m and will be hoping to continue his form against a defence that have managed a single shut-out in their last eight matches. Adam Lallana is available for 10.3m ahead of a home game against Cardiff – the Saints skipper clearly prefers home comforts, with six of this season’s nine strikes arriving at St Mary’s. Nacer Chadli is available for just 8.6m for Tottenham’s trip to West Brom. The Belgian impressed an a central role against Sunderland last weekend and offers a budget-friendly route into Tim Sherwood’s attacking options against a Baggies backline that have mustered just one clean sheet since Pepe Mel took the helm.

Forward – Sergio Aguero
After three months on the sidelines, the Argentine finally looks set to return to action just in time for City’s vital trip to Anfield on Sunday afternoon. With 15 goals in just 17 league appearances this season, Aguero’s comeback couldn’t be better timed as Manuel Pellegrini’s side look for a win which could have major repercussions in the title race – available for a paltry 7.9m, he’ll be on many a Fantasy manager’s radar this week. Further up the cash brackets, Rickie Lambert will set you back 12.0m for Southampton’s home encounter with a Cardiff side that have conceded 12 times in their last three matches. The hosts may be without injured top scorer Jay Rodriguez, but Lambert welcomes the Bluebirds in excellent form, having scored in three of his last four appearances. Romelu Lukaku at 12.4m cannot be overlooked for Everton’s trip to Sunderland. The big Belgian has wreaked havoc in recent weeks, scoring four times in six matches since returning from injury, and looks poised to maintain that streak against a defence that has just shipped five goals to Tottenham on Monday evening.

    Clichy 15+2 apps
    Kolarov 17+6 apps

    Clichy attacking - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 shots, 28 crosses
    Kolarov attacking - 1 goal, 6 assists, 35 shots, 83 crosses

    Clichy defending - 3 blocks, 54 clearances, 7 fouls, 8 clean sheets
    Kolarov defending - 3 blocks, 51 clearances, 13 fouls, 8 clean sheets

Not much in it defensively. Attacking wise Kol smashes Clichy. Dont know why Pele keeps starting Clichy in away games!

Clichy when he needs a more defensive LB. Kolarov when he needs to attack.
Works well for City but not for FPL. Won't change anytime soon.

I never said it was, but it goes against what many posters say about him being a bad pick and Zaba etc are better. How's your Kompany ownership going? 😉

Getting Kolarov is a gamble as he is not guaranteed game time. Obviously he is a valid choice if you knew he would play.

Zabaleta has played 90 minutes in every league game in 2014 and has less points than Kolarov in that period. That's before adding the points Kolarov owners got off the bench in the games he missed.

Zabaleta is widely considered to be a valid choice.

I see the point you are making but my counter to that is that you need to compare him to all players, as you want the best option for your team.

Very true. I was just talking about City as their players are obvious transfer targets at the moment, saying he is a bad FPL option as the post I replied to stated just isn't true. He's a risky pick, that doesn't make him bad.

The only reason he is not on my radar is the fact he is not guaranteed to play and may just make cameo appearances which can be infuriating when you think you are getting a good player off the bench, only to see him come on for the last 5 minutes.

However, I know he is capable of producing massive scores but it is a big gamble.

I think he will be rested this GW as they should have enough to beat Swansea without him. This is assuming he has a chance of playing this GW, which I don't think he does.

Mourinho will not want to risk him before the Liverpool game in my opinion and he will also want him fit for CL semi.

That is my inclination as well just now but may change before deadline.

My team at the moment is:

        Mannone

        Fonte Coleman Ward

        Aguero Lukaku Suarez

Zabaleta > Dann, Hazard > Silva, Gerrard > Nasri for -4

    Speroni

    Dann Cahill Coleman

    Silva Nasri Barkley Yaya

    Lukaku Sturridge Suárez

Leaves 3.9 in bank enough for later moves to Agüero & Rooney if they show form.

    What do you think?

'The loan was arranged at the start of the season and it is quite simple, Courtois can play against Chelsea, that was never in doubt,' said Gourlay.

Happened to us earlier in the CL. We had loaned a player to Elfsborg and we couldn't stop him playing against us.

    Already done Jelavic -> Lukaku.

Hazard, Sturridge -> Nasri/Lallana, Aguero worth the -8, or wait a week?
    Also Nasri or Lallana?

If you don't have 3 City in your team then I would take the hit as you know Hazard = nil poit

    From Man City forum...

I think he should be fit to start. Because he was rushed back for the Barca away game and picked up his hamstring injury the backroom staff have been careful in bringing him back in. He probably could have been on the bench last Saturday but they must just be taking no risks before the big game. They've took extra care with this injury and made the recovery time longer than usual to save him getting injured again with sunday being his target match for his return.

Here is my dilemna, rival who is 30 points away confessed at pub he has bought Aguero, I done the math on his transfer and he has. I have Dzeko but I can change him for Kun. If the ML wasn't at stake I wouldn't make that play, but as it is, and we are so near the end, I feel I need to make it. What do you experts think as I am very confused. Help please!!

I would stick with Dzeko if you already have him. For all we know Kun could get injured quickly and not see many minutes this GW.

Yes I went for Kun but I know the safe choice was Dzeko and I didn't have to take a hit to get him.

    Guys, got the following team

    Howard (Marshall)
    Coleman. Ward. Zaba (Cahill. Skrtel)
    Yaya. Hazard. Lallana. Eriksen (Ki)
    Suarez. Sturridge. Lukaku

    2 FTs. 0.4 ITB

Firstly, is Hazard out for 2 weeks for sure or we don't know yet? If so, Hazard - Willian or Hazard - Silva?

Is not having any Man City forwards a bad idea?

    Would appreciate any help

I would do Hazard to Cazorla and Sturridge to Aguero if I had 2 FT. Both are likely to remain for the rest of the season as they have great fixtures and you need 3 City as they have 2 DGW.

Wont have money for the same buddy! Could do Hazard to Ramsey though to free up the funds

Could get Barkley to Mirallas as they both have DGW but just make sure you plan your exit strategy for them as they are not season keepers unless you intend on making Barkley your 5th choice mid.

I went for barkley as my 5th mid so I had him for DGW and don't need to waste a transfer getting him back out for next week.

    Hello everyone!!!

Not sure how many people are considering Sturridge -> Aguero, but I figure it should be quite a lot. I've been saving money to afford this transfer, but now I'm just trying to do some reasoning before I push the confirm button:

    GW Aguero Sturridge
    34 Liverpool (A) / Sunderland (H) Man City (H)
    35 West Brom (H) Norwich (A)
    36 Crystal Palace (A) Chelsea (H)
    37 Everton (A) / Aston Villa (H) Crystal Palace (A)
    38 West Ham (H) Newcastle (H)

I suppose Man City fixtures are better than Liverpool's from gw 34 to 37, and 38 is roughly the same. I do have Suarez for Liverpool coverage, so... why I'm just scared I will regret to let Sturridge go away?!

I'm definitely doing it. Just not sure whether to sell Zabaleta or Nasri in order to free up a City slot!

I would say it depends on the other players you have. If you lack "double gameweekers" at the back keep Zabaleta, but if you have a decent back 3 without him then keep Nasri.

I cannot decide what to do with Hazard - I have 3 City players already, but no other midfield options can differentiate themselves from the others - who should I go for? I'm winning my mini-league, but not by enough to take huge gamble...

    A) Schurrle
    B) Eriksen
    C) Ramsey
    D) Salah
    E) Mirallas

    So this is the Verdict?

They should cancel out "cup-tied" rules too then No consistency in rules whatsoever. He's still basically belongs to Chelsea & Atletico are fortunate to have him on loan in the 1st place.
