Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – Sturridge Injury Fears Rise

Daniel Sturridge seems poised to miss out for Liverpool this weekend according to the Merseyside press. Emmanuel Adebayor is in the goals for Togo, Southampton’s new boy Sadio Mane strikes again for Senegal, Wilfried Bony faces a late return to training after international duties, whilst Geoff Cameron is sidelined after undergoing hernia surgery for Stoke.

STURRIDGE INJURY CONCERNS MOUNT

Reports suggest that Daniel Sturridge could be sidelined for two to three weeks with the thigh injury he sustained in training whilst on international duty with England last week.

The Scout Says: Whilst there is still no official word from Liverpool on the matter, the fact that over 114,000 managers have already chosen to offload Sturridge this Gameweek suggests that is a mere technicality for some. The proposed absence would see Sturridge miss Saturday evening’s clash with Aston Villa and next weekend’s trip to West Ham, and leave the striker in a race to be fit for the Merseyside derby at the end of the month. In contrast to the England man, team-mate Mario Balotelli has received plenty of investment leading up to this weekend’s deadline, and confirmation of Sturridge’s absence could spark a massive bandwagon and see that investment increase pointedly. Given a chance to play in his preferred role through the middle, Balotelli could find his feet at his new club quicker than expected, though Brendan Rogers does have another alternative to consider – Rickie Lambert, yet to start for Liverpool since his summer move, is a ready-made replacement for Sturridge as a centre forward, and, if given the opportunity, the 7.2 priced target man could prove a canny short-term acquisition for Fantasy managers whilst his team-mate recovers.

ADEBAYOR’S GOAL NOT ENOUGH FOR TOGO

Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor scored his side’s second goal in their 3-2 loss to Ghana yesterday evening in their second African Cup of Nations qualifying match. The striker pulled his side level in the 77th minute with a powerful header, only for Everton’s Christian Atsu to score a late winner for Ghana and leave Togo winless in their two games thus far.

The Scout Says: Last night’s result shines favourably on Adebayor’s Fantasy potential in more ways than one. Not only will his goal give him some momentum heading into this weekend’s trip to Sunderland with Spurs, but the fact that Togo have now lost both their opening games means there is already a good chance they won’t qualify for ACoN, which, subsequently, would mean that Adebayor won’t go AWOL in January. With home encounters against West Brom and Southampton to come in Spurs’ next four, and the likes of Stevan Jovetic and Romelu Lukaku currently injury doubts going into this Gameweek, the 8.6-priced Adebayor is one of the few forwards in his price range to have any real allure right now, and the Tottenham man will be keen to spark a return to form for his side this weekend after their heavy defeat at the hands of Liverpool last time out.

MANE ON THE GOAL TRAIL

Southampton’s deadline day signing Sadio Mane scored his second goal of the international break as his Senegal side ran out 2-0 victors over Botswana in their ACoN qualifier.

The Scout Says: Mane is now firmly on our radars as the Saints face a quintet of kind fixtures, including four at home, in their next six (NEW, swa, QPR, tot, SUN, STO) that offer the midfielder a great chance of building on his current form. At 7.0, the winger is more budget friendly than fellow new boys Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle (both 7.5) and his direct style on the left wing could bring a new dynamic to Ronald Koeman’s side in the coming weeks as they look to add another win to their tally after Gameweek 3’s 3-1 triumph against West Ham. One to monitor for sure.

Bony Set for Late Return to Training

Wilfried Bony is not expected to return to training with Swansea until Friday due to his commitments with Ivory Coast, meaning that Bafetimbi Gomis may be handed his first league start for Swans in this Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.

The Scout Says: Can Garry Monk really do without his first choice striker for the visit of Stamford Bridge? Whilst the Swans boss has previously underlined his faith in Gomis’ ability, and his intention to give the Frenchman plenty of football this season, an away match against Jose Mourinho’s men will hardly have been what Monk would have had in mind. That said, Bony has hardly lived up to his 8.5 price tag so far this season, with not one goal or assist to his name after three appearances, and were Gomis to grab his chance on Saturday afternoon, he may well edge ahead of his teammate in Monk’s thoughts for Gameweek 5’s clash with Southampton.

SURGEY REQUIRED FOR CAMERON

USA international Geoff Cameron finally underwent a hernia operation yesterday after being plagued by the problem since the back end of last season and is now due to miss at least another fortnight of action for Stoke. The Potters did receive some positive news, however, after it was confirmed that Stephen Ireland and Oussama Assaidi are stepping up their recoveries from injury – assistant manager Mark Bowen clarified why Stoke have been cautious with Assaidi since his deadline day loan move from Liverpool:

“He’s been training all week and looked good. We are taking things easy with him because he hasn’t had a pre-season. But everything we’ve thrown at him in training he has come through.”

The Scout Says: With Cameron now definitely sidelined for the near future, Phil Bardsley looks nailed on at right-back for the Potters. The former Sunderland man demonstrated his potential for attacking returns with an assist in Gameweek 2 and could prove a decent differential in light of Stoke’s superb upcoming fixtures (LEI, qpr, NEW, sun, SWA). The imminent return of Ireland and Assaidi, meanwhile, looks set to up the competition for places further up the field, though Mark Hughes seems likely to stick with the starting XI that walked away from the Etihad with a shock victory last time out for this Saturday’s encounter with Leicester, meaning that the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Bojan Krkic may have to make do with bench-warming duties once again.

    Fantasy Football Scout

I’ve noticed a few posts saying that Danny Welbeck isn’t a good striker misses too many chances

In reality though he was one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League, comfortably inside the top ten in terms of shot accuracy last season.

    http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/6391/

It struck me that often we can let personal perception get in the way of facts and miss out on a potentially good player.

So, which players will you not draft in and are convinced are terrible, in spite of evidence to the contrary?

Maybe you don’t like a player due to controversial incidents in their life (eg Terry/ Suarez). Or maybe you are convinced they are not a good player?

With him its game time. agree the stats say he is great and one of the most attacking defenders in the game.

I'm quite ruthless I never say never about any player if their stats are good. The posts saying Welbeck is a poor striker really leave me confused - in reality he's great.

Mine is Yaya... Just not the sort of player I'd ever pick in a Fantasy game, I'd always take a Silva or Nasri over him.

Cost me massively last season but still convinced it was some kind of fluke with all the freekicks and penalties.. Can't see him scoring anywhere near as well this season.

Last year, at the start, maybe till gw7, did not have Ramsey and Yaya.
But then you and i have to see Football as a game of momentum (teams and especially players).
Yaya and Ramsey were on a high. Brought them in… The rest its history.

Welbeck, we have to see. He has awful fixtures and UCL games also. Let's wait.
      But he has tremendous up-side.

Think Fabregas has more freedom than Silva. At least in this actual model of José.
Silva would be a beast if City played with only 1 striker up-front. Most of the games he has to chase an opponent full back.
By the way, saturday he will play in the hole.

Both on most of set-plays, both Fabregas nailed on more.
Silva as to battle with Nasri, Yaya and maybe Kolarov.

Morning Fellas, hope you're well, please would you you cast your eye over wc draft #2964 (going for longevity here):

    Krul Elliot

    PVA Shawcross Naylor Clyne Moore

    Fabregas Sterling Siggy Tadic Dyer

    Costa Aguero Welbeck

    1.5 ITB

My only decision is wether to use the cash to :

    a) upgrade Elliot (I know some peoples thoughts on a single keeper but I have never, never played the correct one when I have 2!)
    b) Upgrade Shawcross to Baines/Coleman
    c) Save for Emergencies

    Cheers !

So wenger has spoken finally on wellbeck. Interesting comments.

    1. His preferred option was a loan (he's too honest sometimes). Although he's allegedly happy to take him permanently.

    2. He might start v city but he doesn't know.

    3. He's versatile and thro the middle is only one of the options.

    4. He will tell us the story one day but whilst he was in Rome he was available. (There's sooooo something gone down!!!)

    5. If he hadn't have been away wellbeck would not have been signed. Cryptic!!! See above brackets

Ok, analyse that. And yes there's positivity comments too and not saying otherwise. Point 5 very cryptic. Stated clearly if he was at home wellbeck would not be at arsenal. Maybe someone else fell thro because he was away????

    Terry/Clyne/Chester

Thinking of doing Jovetic to Pelle/Naismith for free and then to Welbeck later when the fixtures are better...Another one I can do is Terry and Jovetic to Pieters and Balo for a 4 point hit...Thoughts?

Neither, and that was before Sturridges injury. Now Balo is vastly underpriced. He is now one of two must have strikers.

I agree that both are slightly overpriced. However, with Agüero's potential if injury free, he looks more attractive to me.

I know not a lot play The Sun game but I'm in a league for a fair amount of money and would like some advice if possible.. My current team..

    De Gea
    Terry - Caulker - Shawcross - Lovren
    Fabregas - Ramsey - Siggy
    Costa - Rooney - Pelle

I've got 3 transfers, how would you say De Gea, Rooney, Pelle -> Forster, Aguero, Welbeck look? You get points for Champions League games so Aguero, Wellbeck have 5 more games each than Rooney, Pelle between now and the next transfer window?

Not playing the Sun game this year, too much hassle committing to Sun+, bank details etc.

But you know the form - as many CL players as poss (do Europa games also count? If they do, that changes things). So I would be looking to ship De Gea, definitely Rooney, maybe Pelle and Caulker/Shawcross, even though some of their fixtures are strong. Wellbeck must be good value? Chelsea have some easy CL games so may rotate?

No assists, but MOM instead means a bit of flexibility over style of player?

Should I take WC for this team?

    Krul - Foster
    Cahill - Jones - Ferdinand - Naylor - Moore
    Hazard - Ramsey - Sterling - Siggy - Mahrez
    Costa - Rooney - Naismith

    and make this:

    Krul - Foster
    Ivanovic - Wilson - Naylor - Robertson - Moore
Di Maria - Fabregas - Sterling - Siggy - Boyd
Aguero - Costa - Naismith or Austin

    A) Clyne (not very good underlying stats and the 0.1 could make future transfers tricky)

Incredible the way these guys are molly-coddled.

Look at a tennis player, running about for over 3 hours in blistering heat, compared to being 1 of a team of 11 for 90 mins with a 15 min break.

    Hey guys,

On a Wildcard and I could do with some advice.

I'm happy with my midfield and won't be looking to change that any time soon:

    Ramsey, Sterling, Fabregas, Siggy, Zaha

But it's my GK/defence and forward line I'm struggling with, particularly with the international break injuries.

What do you guys think is the better option?

    A) GK - McCarthy, Krul
Def - Clyne, Moreno, Jones, Duff, NTaylor
    Fwd - Costa, Naismith, Falcao

1.9 in the bank for a possible Falcao --> Aguero/Sturridge

    B) GK - Foster, Krul
    Def - Same defence
    Fwd - Costa, Falcao, Welbeck

    0.2 in the bank

    Thanks!

So what? U think City cant score vs them? They scored 6 goals vs Arsenal and they will also score vs Chelsea

No, I do understand the point you are trying to make, but surely you must see that the next two fixtures for City are two of the more difficult games they will play this year.

Aguero could well deliver in these two games, but I see it as a bit foolish to dump all my eggs in the Aguero basket at this stage when there are alternatives available at a cheaper price with better fixtures right now.
