After taking a look at those clubs with kind upcoming schedules yesterday evening, we turn our attentions to those with some tough fixtures to follow. Trouble could be brewing for the Tyne-Wear duo, whilst the Saints’ recent rise to prominence is set to be put to the test.

Sunderland

“frisking

Unbeaten in their last three, the Black Cats will need to retain that recent resilience to navigate a tricky fixture list. Gus Poyet’s side entertain Chelsea, Man City and West Ham in the next four – the three highest scoring away sides in the league so far.

With a trip to Liverpool also to consider in the next four, the Wearsiders will surely remain off Fantasy radars for now. At the back, Costel Pantilimon has earned 14 points in three starts since taking over from Vito Mannone and will at least offer save point potential, whilst Steven Fletcher faces a tough task to continue the form which has brought four goals and an assist in his last six appearances.

Stoke

“frisking

Last weekend’s home defeat to Burnley is hardly ideal preparation for what’s to follow. With his injury-hit defence conceding in each of the last six and key winger Victor Moses out for up to eight weeks, Mark Hughes has his work cut out to steer Stoke up the table over the next few matches.

The Potters will be looking for Bojan to maintain the form that has earned him a goal, assist and four bonus points in the last two matches, but with showdowns against Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton in the next six Gameweeks alone, Hughes is afforded little reason for festive cheer right now.

Newcastle

“frisking

The league’s form side have now won five on the spin and collected four clean sheets over that period but whether they can prevail over an evil fixture schedule is perhaps debatable.

Alan Pardew’s side travel to West Ham, Arsenal and United in the next six, and with Chelsea paying visit, in addition to a derby showdown with Sunderland, it leaves only a Gameweek 14 trip to Burnley looking full of promise. Budget option Paul Dummett and raiding right-back Daryl Janmaat may struggle to serve up the defensive returns, whilst further up the field, the cut-price duo Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez could have their current form curtailed.

Also Be Wary Of…

Southampton
Sitting second in the table after 13 rounds of fixtures, Ronald Koeman’s side now present us with the classic case of form against fixtures. A defence that has conceded a single goal in their last five now squares up to City, Arsenal, United and Everton in the next five – Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand are amongst the four most popular defenders in the Fantasy Premier League game but their owners may find returns slowing over this period, with many looking for a way out. The erratic Dusan Tadic, with eight blanks in 12 appearances, and the off-form Graziano Pelle – without a shot on target in the last four and just one booking shy of a ban – may well be set for an exodus as the returns dry up.

Hull
The short-term schedule is unrelenting on Steve Bruce’s out-of-sorts side, with Hull travelling to United, Everton and Chelsea in the next four Gameweeks. With just one goal and a single point to their name over the last four, the Tigers will need to dig deep to get anything from those matches – Bruce will be hoping the fit-again pair Nikica Jelavic and Michael Dawson can make a difference at both ends of the pitch but the KC pickings look slim to none right now.

Crystal Palace
Victories against the likes of Everton and Liverpool show that, on their day, Neil Warnock’s side can mix it with the best of them. Palace will need to carry on from the form that swept aside the Reds last Sunday, though, as they now face trips to Swansea, Spurs and City, in addition to the visit of Southampton over the next six. Home encounters with Villa and Stoke still look promising for key man Yannick Bolasie, whilst Mile Jedinak’s dead-ball duties continue to keep the Eagles skipper in contention as a valid budget option.

I haven't been around as much as I would like to recently ğŸ™

            Thanks mate 🙂

Whadya think of my transfer plan below? I had it mapped out even before I was aware of the injuries.

To me the Villa defence, Sanchez, Austin and Siggy are all very hot prospects few weeks.

In a bit of a quandry at the moment. I thought I knew what I wanted to do with Sterling out of form and Sanchez looking better and better with every game, as well as rising tonight.

However, Baines looks to be out for the weekend, and Chadli may also be missing. Can't afford any passengers at this stage - and with Sterling at home against Stoke, I'm not sure whether I should do Baines to Ivanovic instead.

    Thoughts guys?

    Krul, Gilks
    Baines, Chambers, Bertrand, Wisdom, Hutton
    Sterling, Fabregas, Chadli, Sigurdsson, Marney
    Costa, Aguero, Austin

I would seriously think about downgrading a defender to get Sanchez in for Chadli. Sterling looked good today. Wouldn't part with him if I had him.

Sounds like Baines/Chadli will miss Europa tomorrow, which puts them in doubt for the weekend. If so, I'd say do Baines/Chadli -> Azpi/Sanchez.

How is this for a WC team lads:

    Foster // Myhill
    Azpill // Clichy // Naylor // Yun // Hutton
Hazard // Sanchez // Siggy // Brady and Boyd rotating
    Costa // Aguero // Austin

Leaves 1.0 in bank to get Downing or Chadli if injuries are sorted...

this perfectly sums up my thoughts on rooney, words by the guardian's daniel harris

"Aggressive, instinctive, unique and absurd, his was a transcendental talent able to commandeer a game featuring 21 other players and make it entirely about him.Not any more. Once a fantasy player, he's now a fantasy league player, relentlessly accumulating goals and assists but quickening neither pulse nor step. Of course, he still produces the occasional moment, but the momentous occasions are rare—and even more tellingly, he just isn't any fun."

the joy of watching him went a couple of years ago for me. people have said to me I'm bitter he tried to leave the club twice to get more money but it was never just that

really? I enjoyed watching him most when he was playing in behind van nistlerooy

the volley against newcastle, the CL hattie vs fenerbache etc all came in the number 10 position behind RVN

also this remarkable statistical analysis on him pins down his best position as the number 10

Right. But that's no longer his best position. I find it hilarious that people moan about a player that scores and assists so regularly because he "doesn't look good" whilst doing it. So what? Does Ronaldo or Messi take a game by the scruff of the neck? Of course not. You know why? Because it's not their job. And it was never Rooney's either. As a CF with better service he would score in the neighborhood of both, relative to the difference in leagues obviously.

the thing is, zonal marking (michael cox) has pointed out that rooney's best 4 seasons in terms of individual numbers have always been when united haven't won the league

suggests that putting him as striker might be good for him but takes something away from the team. http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/sep/04/wayne-rooney-england-manchester-united

rooney will go down as a PL legend of course, personally i just think he had a bit more to give. had he put in the same work as ronaldo in training/lifestyle. he was better than ronaldo early on at united

Your argument doesn't take into account our late decline under Fergie.

And he was never going to age as well as Ronaldo. Also doesn't benefit from whatever it is he and Messi are taking in Spain.

fergie killed his edge , which is what made him. I saw a couple wks back comments from rooney saying he almost quit while he was a youth still at everton which I think was a load of bollocks just trying to cover up his up and down form. he's just not as interested and passionate as he use to be.

he shows passion when he scores but not when he plays anymore. if that makes sense. he still puts up good numbers scoring wise. he's not a bad player but lamps and gerrard at his age were dominating games, rooney doesn't do this.

                    I agree

lampard might have been always productive in goal output, but scholes dictated the tempo of matches and was more influential overall

he came back from retirement and helped united win a title at 36/37. says it all really

interesting that we clash on rooney muppet, given your logic here on scholes and lampard's goals being almost luxury

It's ironic because Rooney is the very definition of an all around footballer. He might've reached another level but my point is we're to blame for that as much as he is. We'll never know though if that was the case or the reasons why really.

erm, if ronaldo hadn't overtaken him with his application in training and dedication to the game then rooney might have remained as the pivotal player. while ronaldo was doing stepovers with weights round his ankles and being the best player in the gym the fitness staff had seen, rooney was pissing outside nightclubs and with elder ladies of the night

it was only around that time that fergie started moving rooney around. there is some blame to be put at his door but I see what you mean

so you're saying there wasn't a time when rooney was better than ronaldo?

"But it was the mastering of strength workouts and Olympic lifts - total body exercises performed in an explosive manner at pace - that were behind the development of a muscular physique that has gone on to adorn billboards and magazine covers across the world.
Deadlifts and power cleans were two favourites in his gym routine, with the level of resistance and speed of execution slowly increased over his near six years in Manchester."
              http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25719657

ronaldo turned himself into a brutal powerhouse in the gym. just imagine if rooney had done the same work. i mean, ronaldo was destined to become better, he was much more raw when he came. but the way ronaldo just eclipsed rooney, it was clear one was working harder

i stated two well-known facts about rooney's private life, hardly hate-mongering. there's a lot worse out there on rooney

Rooney is built more like Maradona or Messi. That sort of work and the gym had more potential to hinder him than help him. Ronaldo is a freak of nature. There's no comparison. You have to take their physique types into account.

rooney built like messi. i cannot give you that, sorry

maybe maradona yes. but i don't see how gym work hinders them, it would be different work obviously.

ronaldo was quite gangly and not as rapid when he first came. like a taller nani. the increase in power/pace/acceleration came with all the work

Whenever United plays awfully, Rooney looks like he's the only one actually playing for Manchester United. He's a Premier League legend and even now he's still one of the best players in the world when fit.

    Baines, Bertrand, Chambers, Dummet
    Sigurdsson, Sanchez, Fabregas, Di Maria
    Costa, Pelle
    Subs Green, Berahino, Duff, Cattermole

I think my next move will probably be Berahino out and Austin (or Sakho) in?

    Forster to Guzan

    Coleman to Hutton

    Chadli to Siggy

    Pelle to Austin

    Tadic to Sanchez

These transfers will result in -12 for hits but leave me with £2.1 m ITB.

Good to go? I think each of those transfers could end up being very fruitful (aside from Coleman to Hutton, but Villa have very good upcoming fixtures).

True, it's still possible, and might be good in the long term, but a 12-point hit is unlikely to increase the score for GW13 by more than that 12 points. (Score less hits) for GW13 would have been 12 points higher if the hits had been made in GW12 instead, although the adverse effect on GW12 would probably have been even greater and would probably have resulted in elimination from Last Man Standing for those who are still in it. I actually took a 4-point hit in GW12 myself rather than later because of GW13 being Cup qualification week, although I realised that it would not help my OR (which is awful this season anyway).

I see that you have only taken three 4-point hits, and Brutus has only taken four of them. Neither of you have taken any bigger hits so far this season, and neither of you have made any transfers this week yet - are either of you really serious about the idea of taking a larger hit?

I'd consider Barkley but not Chamberlain. But then Siggy has good form and CPL + QPR in the next 2! Plan was to have him for at least those 2 and then maybe get Chadli back to face CPL, Swans, Burnley and Leicester.

To me Siggy is a poor man's Fabregas (strong value), I just think he's someone who stands out at his price. Chadli, Siggy, Barkley, Downing are my top 4 picks for the mid price range.

It's not like that mate. I think Villa are the golden defensive team for the next 9 GWs (like Southampton have been so far). Take a look at their fixtures and you will see why: Burnley, CPL, Leicester, WBM, Sunderland, CPL, Leicester all in the next 9!

Some people called me crazy for getting Tadic and Pelle together because of their fixtures, look at how well that turned out lol.

        Forster to Guzan is great.

I would genuinely look at Baines to Hutton so that you can keep ADM AND have Rooney for the next 2 plum fixtures.

Villa fixtures in the next 9 are epic, they will rack up a good number of CS I'm sure.

    Baines, Clyne, Chambers, Naylor, Dummet
    Sanchez, Fabregas, Tadic, Sigurdsson, Boyd
    Aguero, Costa, Perez

    1ft and 1.1 itb

Please choose one of the following:

    A) Clyne -> Azpi/Terry/Cahill. (Means holding onto Tadic)

I can do B with Hutton not C .1 short. Yun is a 3.9 QPR defender.

Do B for sure then. Do it but with Hutton over Yun. Villa are on the defensive rise for the next 9 GWs.

I don't like any of those hits and I don't like losing Clyne when you already have a very strong defense in favor of a Chelsea defender if it means keeping Tadic. I would probably do Clyne to Hutton and start him this weekend (or save if you wouldn't start him) and then get rid of Tadic next week.

Yes, basically. But I would consider doing the defensive transfer this week instead of saving if for Yun too just in case Baines is out so you don't have either Dummett or Clyne coming up off the bench.

Yeah probably wiser to do this. Reckon Tadic and Clyne will drop much in value though? Lots of people are jumping ship

I wouldn't have a problem keeping Clyne, in all honesty, but I think with your team dumping him for an uber is the best place to find funds. Tadic, however, I think is set to seriously struggle against tougher teams and he will not be in the points. Clyne shouldn't drop at all. Tadic I don't know, as I haven't been following the prices so much this season, but I don't imagine he will drop more than .1 before the weekend if at all.

Nice. My follow up questions to these tables are these:

        1. Ings, for real?
        2. Who is this Mathew James guy at Leicester?!
        3. Is Cisse fit, and worth a punt?
        4. Is Toure back on form now?
        5. Crystal Palace team defense, solid or not?

          Yep.
A good dead-ball striker. Feck knows.
          No.
          Yes.

Solid. I'm looking at Ings (as I've mentioned afew times). Reckon he could be great value for a 3 week punt with VIL NEW qpr. Would cost me a hit though, for Pelle, worth it?

Not a hit, mate - not a hit.

Having said that, Pelle is dead. Mmm. You will have to decide. Sorry.
