Once again, our pre-Gameweek members article, focussing on the main captaincy contenders, arrives this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

David Silva is the runaway leader of our Gameweek 20 Captain Poll ahead of Man City’s home clash with Sunderland. Four goals and an assist over his last three matches in Manuel Pellegrini’s false nine system has persuaded over 38% of voters to opt for the little Spaniard as the champions look to bounce back from their weekend home draw against Burnley. Four goals in his previous six earns Yaya Toure 5% backing here, despite concerns over the groin injury that kept him out of the Clarets’ clash.

Raheem Sterling and Charlie Austin are next in line with 9% of votes apiece. The former’s move to the central role up top saw him grab a goal against Burnley last Friday, and with visitors Leicester conceding at least twice in five of their last six road trips, the Reds will fancy their chances of a third straight win. Despite an unexpected blank at home to Palace on Sunday, Austin has still served up five goals and a pair of assists in his last four at Loftus Road ahead of the visit of Swansea.

Wayne Rooney remains in contention as Man United roll up to the Britannia. Stoke have registered back-to-back clean sheets but will do well to keep out their opponents, who have now gone nine matches unbeaten – Rooney has five goals and a pair of assists in his last seven.

Eden Hazard is the preferred Chelsea weapon of choice for the league leaders’ trip to White Hart Lane. The Belgian has earned 5% of votes after earning returns in each of his previous four appearances – Diego Costa, on the other hand, is trusted by just 2% of voters after scoring just twice in his last six.

Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke has been backed by 4% for the home encounter with managerless Palace. The big Belgian has produced returns in two of his last three at Villa Park and looks the man most likely to breach the Eagles’ backline.

Further down, the likes of Stewart Downing (2%) and Andy Carroll (1%) look real differentials as the Hammers host struggling West Brom, whilst Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez (2% and 1%) could also be worth considering, given their fine festive form.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

So now that it appears that Yaya will play, should I proceed with my proposed move of Krul to Guzan to use up a FT?
    Foster - Krul
    Zaba - Terry - Naylor - Hutton - Yun
    Hazard - Eriksen - Yaya - Downing - Siggy
    Bony - Austin - Costa
    2FT 0.6itb

Not worried about him, have a good bench. He should be back after the FA cup ties.

    Repost for DZ...

    ::::: Dead Team Challenge - GW19 Leaderboard Updated :::::

Apologies, it's been a few weeks since my last update...

Woeisme is still the leader with 1047pts at the half way mark, which is roughly 35k overall...

Our perennial contender The Casual has lost his way somewhat and is back in 6th on 1005pts, with Mull stumbling back to 4th after his breakout performances, sitting on 1010pts...

Two new faces that deserve a mention are Kroos Ctrl and That Wolves Culture, who between them share 2nd and 3rd spot respectively on 1022 and 1011pts....

I also wanted to congratulate the 7 players who scored over 100pts last week in the DTC... Bojan Ye Gud Ting, Butters, Eljinj, LvlrHotShot, SpartaBhoy, Tiger and Vildinho... well done lads...

Please click on this link for the latest GW19 leaderboard:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1raAyvT8NYalwe4_-1EqJZBOOcbwjmixKpFu18ySKGVQ/edit#gid=1316772556

You can also click on the 'teams' tab and scroll through to check your team individually... the teams are listed alphabetically so that should make it easier to navigate...

And finally, a huge thank you to Billy (who is now 10th btw 😯 ) for his continued work behind the scenes, without his ongoing tech support I doubt I'd be able to do any of this in a timely manner, if at all...

    Thanks...

Basically a comp where everyone picks a team at the start of the season... and leaves it... no transfers, captain changes or anything... quite fun actually...

I'll be running a Jan WC DTC, so you are welcome to join that one... keep an eye out for some more on that soon...

Feel free to peruse the link to get a feel for the comp...

what transfer(s) to make with this team? 2 FTs, 0.4 itb
    focused on the cup

    Heaton
    Hutton, Terry, Clichy
Silva (c), Sanchez, Hazard, Yaya Toure
    Kane, Austin, Costa (vc)

    subs.: Elliot; Boyd, Wisdom, Bartley

mid-range strategy is to do Yaya Toure --> probably Downing; probably Kane --> Rooney; Clichy out to make funds available; and Bartley to another inexpensive defender

q is...what to do for this upcoming round?

Selling value of your team , go to transfers , click x on all your players till they are all gone and you will found out , that's the true value of your team, pretty important to have a reasonably high one with a wildcard around the corner

      1. Jay_

I always make my transfers at a desk in my bedroom.

      Good question.
Assuming I hold til Aguero is back it will be a massive shuffle. Boyd will be back in the team to fund it and it will be very cheap at the back.
      Probably have to be 6.

Rejig keepers and defences and only 3/4 changes for the front 8

I only want Theo Sturridge and Aguero so am hopeful that some decent transfers happen and we get some new blood. Otherwise it will feel a bit anticlimactic.

Could work. Could also backfire and you will probably lose some value on Sanchez?

I think you will lose some value on Sanchez. Sterling is not necessarily #1 pick from Liverpool. I'd hold.

and hazard fabregas and costa will contribute to 3 between themselves.

    Guzan,
    Zabaleta, Cahill, Naylor,
    Hazard, Sterling (c), Downing, Sanchez,
    Austin (vc), Costa, Benteke (vc)

    Subs: Gilks, Siggy, Wisdom, Clyne,

Choosing who to bench and capt this week with this lot is a nightmare.
Thinking Sterling the best bet for Capt as long as he starts (its a doubt tho)

Then Siggy s overall output hasnt been great but he is capable of double points too at the same time.
Fancying QPR at home to Swansea. Tempted to go with Austin too as capt. Great stats and he has proved he isnt just a one game wonder.

best 2 defenders for a total of 8.8?

currently have these DFs and GKs:
DFs: Hutton, Terry, Clichy, Wisdom, Bartley
    GKs: Heaton, Elliot

plan is to replace Clichy and Bartley; options?

thanks; Pieters preferable to Cameron though? Pieters is more expensive, but does get some assists

who else in the lower price range?

If you could. But then you'll be off budget. The rest is already in - Hutton Wisdom. Yun could be back though, but he's a lousy pick.
