Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 23

Our post-Gameweek look at the new injuries sustained over the weekend brings worrying news for Sam Allardyce as a trio of Hammers players limped off at Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers eases fears over his captain’s weekend absence, though Stoke have concerns over Ryan Shawcross once again.

Chelsea
Willian was replaced on 79 minutes of last night’s draw with City at Stamford Bridge after picking up an injury, according to the club’s official website.

Crystal Palace
In his first appearance since Gameweek 16, Marouane Chamakh lasted just 24 minutes before being forced off in Palace’s home loss to Everton with a suspected broken nose. Alan Pardew remains optimistic that the Moroccan will be back in time for next week’s trip to the King Power Stadium:

”The loss of Cham was crucial today, his guile and experience around the box would have been important. He’s got a broken nose we fear, so fingers crossed he doesn’t get my cold. He wasn’t concussed, but it was a heavy blow to the nose. But I think he’ll be okay for Leicester.”

Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers allayed fears over Steven Gerrard’s absence from yesterday’s win overWest Ham, with the Reds skipper expected to return for the midweek FA Cup replay against Bolton:

“It was just precautionary, really. After the game the other night, his hamstring was tight. We’ve got a lot of games over the coming months, so we didn’t want to risk it when we have other players that are fresh.”

Southampton
Lloyd Isgrove was a late withdrawal from the Saints squad that lost to Swansea today, meaning Ronald Koeman could only name six subs in the 1-0 defeat.

Stoke
The Potters skipper Ryan Shawcross lasted just 41 minutes of the 3-1 win over QPR before being forced off through injury.

Sunderland
Wes Brown missed the Black Cats’ 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday after failing to prove his fitness upon returning to training, confirmed Black Cats boss Gus Poyet:

“Wes trained for a couple of days and it is nothing serious, so it is just about making sure he is 100% so that when we throw him in he is ready because I can tell you that it is very hard. It is great for us because we now have a big squad and I can refresh the team if I need to, but of course the ones that performed at 3pm against Burnley will have a better chance next week.”

Swansea
Marvin Emnes lasted just 15 minutes of this afternoon’s trip to Southampton before being withdrawn due to injury. Garry Monk has further worries on the flank after Emnes’ replacement Mo Barrow was stretchered off towards the end of the 1-0 win. Leon Britton missed today’s clash due to illness, according to the club’s official website.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce is counting the cost of yesterday’s loss to Liverpool after a trio of players were forced off through injury at Anfield. The Hammers boss saw centre-halves James Collins and Winston Reid both limp off with hamstring injuries, whilst Andy Carroll picked up a knew problem in the 2-0 defeat. Post-match, Allardyce rolled out an update:

Those three coming off has thrown us into a major crisis at the minute injury-wise and you can’t expect to come to a place like Liverpool and win when those things go against you. In all fairness to Ginge, because of the injuries we had in defence [in the build-up] he tried to come in and get through this game himself, but his hamstring injury had obviously re-occurred by half-time.

Allardyce also confirmed that midfielder Cheick Kouyate missed out after returning from international duties with Senegal nursing a back injury.

It only happens a few times a season, but, when there are midweek clashes, it always happens. In addition to 28th December.
Midweek cut off is 19:30 and line ups come out an hour before the games.

    Last Page -- Last Post

    WC Team Draft 1:

    Krul -- Foster
    Fonte -- Ivanovic -- P.Jones -- Schlupp -- Yun
    Ozil -- Hazard -- Eriksen -- Mane -- Ameobi
    Aguero -- Sturridge -- Gayle

this leaves me with 0 in bank...but the main concern is that on GW27 I won't be able to field a full team...Thoughts?

Not a fan of Gayle and Ameobi I'm affraid. Both are options I'd like to bench on a regular basis. I think you need a little more solidity there. A downgrade in defence might enable you to afford Kane/Defoe or someone like that. Gayle being on the wing doesn't justify one of your 3 precious forward spots.

Yun is a good pick for 3.9m

        Schlupp OOP

Ameobi is worth only 4.3m...could downgrade Mane and get two players worth 5.2 and 5 instead..but Mane is a good pick..

Gayle even I slightly doubt him...Could downgrade Fonte to Toby and upgrade Gayle

Desperately need to stop the rot and I'm hoping a late JanWC will see me having the later and more timely surge up the rankings.

First effort here, a few defensive risks but it enables for a killer attack. Zouma and Bellerin will either play or not feature at all lessening the risk there I think.

    RMWCT

    Foster, Krul
    Zouma, Bellerin, Naughton, PVA, Wisdom
    Sanchez, Cazorla, Hazard, Sterling, Walters
    Sturridge, Aguero, Kane

Yep, gone for the uber defence, put PVA, Wisdom and Naughton are solid options I think which should negate the risk attached to the likes of Bellerin and Zouma. I couldn't have such a stacked front 8 if it wasn't for a budget albeit slightly risky D.

Zouma does seem to be the most at risk. Kind off keen to take the punt though because if he does nail down a regular starting role, its pure gold. Even if he only starts half the time I still think its worth it because all of my defenders have strong fixtures.

Yeah, true that. It is an area where I have made a sacrifice. The main reason being is because I think there is better value elsewhere now. I think a case can be made that the Saints rearguard are no longer good value. I can see some regression happening in their defensive resolve going into the second half of the season. I highly doubt they will continue to fly so high as to qualify for the champions league.

I like it. Yeah some risk/ a low value defense but easy switches to Alderw, Stoke with a little shifting later. You will get 3 out each week as it is.

Just not sold on Studrridge AND Sterling

Fair point about the new SaS. Its a bit risky but I get the feeling Liverpool are on the up now especially with the better system and the return of Sturridge. Fixtures aren't amazing but they aren't terrible either. I may yet drop one of them though, as you say, having both might be a bit much.

I like this team. Its bold and a bit different. I think having Sterling and Sturridge is a great differential.

If you decide to back away from your uber cheap defence (personally I dont think you should!) - I'd consider keeping Sterling and downgrading one of the other midfielders.

Nice to see a different approach. Good luck with it!

Yea you're right. Finding it awfully difficult to find the cash to upgrade him to Giroud, let alone Sturridge. Tough on that Kane error...seems like a season keeper at that price.

Really good to see Giroud getting some love. To me he is a massively under rated Fantasy player.

187 points last year, thats just 10 less than Sturridge. Also nice to have someone in that mid price range and with so many midfield options for Arsenal he looks 'nailed' for a starting spot compared to the questions around others.

    And hes sooo dreamy.

His score last season is a bit inflated compared to other strikers as he played so much. Although I suppose you could say this is a positive. He played 800 minutes more than Sturridge to get those 10 less points.

Decent, if inconsistent option though, I agree.

Have to agree. We can only have 3 Arsenal players and of late Cazorla and Bellerin are making strong cases for inclusion. Then of course most of us still have Sanchez. Not easy to fit them all in, then there is the case of not many other options in Giroud's price change which limits flexibility.

Sanchez is a truly epic player, but with the returning class all around the Arsenal midfield and getting goals, would you prefer:

    Sanchez and Zouma
    or
    Ozil and Kompany?

Or should I just get rid of ADM for Eriksen? Remember he has a blank coming.

0.5m spare in my below WC draft - would you:

    A) Keep the cash
    B) Foster/Myhill -> Panti/Krul
    C) Collo -> Aldy
    D) Something else

    Foster, Myhill
    Terry, Bellerin, PVA, Wisdom, xxx
    Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, ADM, Santi
    Aguero, Kane, Ayoze

I know Ayoze stands out, but he'll be benched every week except for GW27 when I'll need him to start (and when he has AVL). Decent short term filler for 4.6m imo.

I've never owned him, but having watched MUN of late I think he will come good. He's getting into decent spots and with whu, BUR, swa, SUN up next I think he'll do well.

Seems I am not alone either - just checked the RMT tool and over the next 4 weeks he is ranked 5th overall.

        GW28 he goes -> Eriksen

He's had good fixtures ever since he returned from injury and he's done nothing. I think United are a bit hit and miss at the moment so I'm not sure you can rely on their fixtures for sure returns.

Fair point, although the nutjob in charge has been playing him out of position which hasn't helped.

Looks like he's back in the hole now with a license to bomb forward.

Since he returned from injury he is No.1 for goal attempts and No.3 for pen box touches.

Admittedly his shooting has been pants, but he is getting into the right positions and having a go. It's him vs Sterling for me and I fancy ADM over the next 4 before I switch back to Eriksen.

    Panti (Hamer)
    Bellerin Naughton PVA Wisdom (Wasilewski)
    Hazard Sanchez Cazorla Sterling Eriksen
    Aguero Kane Sturridge/Costa

Convinced Arsenal will be offensive juggernaut the rest of the way. To cheap on the defense, or will they hold their own?

I think your D will be fine (very similar to mine btw)

I definitely think its a great time to go for as many heavy hitters as possible so I think your team is excellent.

The only real problem is that Kane is your cheapest attacker and he's basically a heavy hitter now (form wise). This will give you a real benching dilemma every week.

      1) Could go either way but you'd think Walters will retain his striker position after scoring a hatty. I think I'd back the Stoke player marginally.

      2) He lost his place. However he might regain it now that they've just conceded 3 goals.

Have seen some folks skeptical of his performances of late and arguing it's meer point chasing this late. They may have a point, Ozil coming into form and Cazorla having played nearly all season, the fatigue may have caught up. Arsene has a great benching headache now.

Sorry mate didn't play last season, was he a popular option at all? Or was he on Oscar levels of inconsistency?

He was awesome in his first season. Less so last year because Ozil pushed him out to the wing and Ramsey dominated central areas.

That's a good score and better than most. Should be happy.

😯 but to be honest PVA seemed like a bench option and your other keeper must have got points

Currently torn between taking out Fabs or Chadli

I'd take out Fabs. I don't think there is much in it between Chadlii and Eriksen so I don't think there is reason to sell. Chadlii should be back in the starting lineup next week now that he's back with the team.

Try comparing them both to Cazorla. It might change your mind again.
