Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 26

We cast an eye over the new injuries sustained during the weekend’s ten fixtures this evening. Problems mount for Palace up front, Newcastle’s concerns continue, whilst United’s misfiring Dutchman is set for ankle scans after Saturday’s loss at Swansea.

Aston Villa
Kieran Richardson was forced off during the first half of Saturday’s home loss to Stoke due to injury.

Crystal Palace
Fraizer Campbell was withdrawn during the Eagles’ home loss to Arsenal after picking up a hamstring problem. Marouane Chamakh failed to feature against his former club due to a similar complaint.

Liverpool
Mamadou Sakho missed today’s clash with Southampton due to a hip problem, the Reds’ official twitter feed has confirmed.

Man United
The Red Devils are sweating over the fitness of Robin van Persie after the Dutchman left the Liberty Stadium on crutches after sustaining an ankle injury Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea. United are expected to know results of scans on the Dutchman by some point tomorrow.

Newcastle
Daryl Janmaat limped off with a groin problem during the Magpies’ 5-0 hammering at the Etihad on Saturday evening. Manager John Carver confirmed:

“He has got a tight groin. I don’t think he’s too serious at the moment, but it is tight and we took him off as a precaution.”

QPR
Niko Krancjar limped out of the R’s narrow loss at Hull on Saturday and was replaced by Armand Traore on 78 minutes.

Southampton
Steven Davis was replaced at the break during the Saints’ home encounter against Liverpool after picking up a knock.

Sunderland
Billy Jones missed the Black Cats’ goalless draw with West Brom due to injury.

Stoke
Erik Pieters was replaced with five minutes remaining of the weekend win at Villa due to injury.

West Ham
Carlton Cole was forced off due to injury during the Hammers’ draw at Spurs this afternoon.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Any suggestions for this lot, this game week all?

    Krul / Panti
    Terry / Naughton / Bellerin / Fonte / Bruce
    Sanchez / Hazard / Eriksen / Tadic / Colback
    Aguero / Kane / Giroud

Colback out for someone and probably no hit. I have a feeling Tadic will start next game given their complete and utter ineptitude going forward today, so I'd hold off on getting rid of him for a hit.

Sadly, no. All a bit of a minefield....I'd say your two routes are either up him to someone in the 5.0ish range who may get you some points in GW27 or just punt the spot down to a Cork like player to save the funds for elsewhere for the long haul and stomach the 2 or 3 pointer out of that spot for the week.

Unless you are ok with playing down a player next week, I would get rid of one of your Chelsea players - Terry would make the most sense to me. Just bench Hazard, Eriksen, Kane next week.

It's very easy to overlook that FPL points will actually be scored in GW 27. Most will have high value players benched, many will be struggling to put 11 worthwhile players out.

The more I think about it, the more I am coming to the view that extracting value from the DGW will be like trying to get blood out of a stone. Spurs have 4 important games in 9 days with the DGW being the last 2 in the sequence. There will be rotation. I don't think even Kane is nailed on to play 90 minutes in both games. Probably only Lloris is.

QPR have players you can count on to play twice but very difficult fixtures.

Personally I will only bring in players for DGW that I'm happy to keep for a while afterwards. I'm not interested in having 3 Spurs and I'm not interested in having any QPR. What I am interested in is using the FTs I have to maximise points scored this week. I only need one FT in GW 27 - ADM to Eriksen.

Hmm. I saw this comment that said he is 'playing for a contract'. QPR will likely get relegated and so he needs to prove to other clubs that he is worth a transfer.

Plus, Arsenal don't keep too many CS' away, and Spurs don't keep to many CS' at all 😀

You know what, I don't think that's a bad idea at all.

With Spurs' fixture pileup and Kane playing so many minutes I wouldn't be surprised to see him go off the boil slightly.

That said, I'll probably still captain him 😀

I think I may only go with Kane for the DGW 😯 My squad has imploded and I don't fancy taking hits for the likes of Austin, Rose etc. May get Lloris or Eriksen but overall this DGW is not thrilling me like others previous.

That said, my plan was to have Kane (already on my team), and acquire Eriksen (for either Sanchez, silva or cazorla), and sell Defoe for Austin.

Rationale: Eriksen seems to be as productive as Cazorla and Silva, and maybe even Sanchez now that Alexis is banged up and no longer the man who has to carry the whole midfield.

Defoe vs Austin feels like a no brainier for the dgw, and beyond. My team is built around one expensive forward and two cheapies. Austin fits that role much better than Defoe and was on my team until Charlie got hurt.

I agree with that in general, but I think you have to have Kane and Eriksen just for safety. Too much potential to drop if you don't have either as either could easily start both and get big returns although what you are saying makes complete sense. Given their fixtures I don't mind having Eriksen for another game/few until I get around to getting rid of him. Austin I think is well worth the gamble and he will likely be my transfer out straight away.

Well Kane I already have and he'll be benched this week. Eriksen I plan to add because he's a player I'll be happy to keep until my wildcard anyway. That'll do for me I think.

      totally agree,
QPR have poor double game week fixtures and dont want their players long term
I have Kane and have an easy chance to get Erik in as i own ADM and want rid.
The fixtures for Man City, Liverpool and others that week are aslo good.

      1. Ruth_NZ
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 2 months ago

Yep. Kane will be the overwhelming DGW captain and you have to have him really. ADM to Eriksen is my GW 28 move too - it nicely coincides with United coming towards a run of tougher fixtures.

If I had a FT to burn I might also bring Phillips in as my (usually benched) 5th mid. But I think my FTs are best used elsewhere. Wisdom has had to be replaced and Colback has got suspended for the one game I kept him for. 😉 So he'll be out this week for Fletcher.

      Agree completely.

I'll have Kane and Eriksen, but Spurs' defence is very poor, and will surely be rotated. I expect QPR to get beaten twice, and I'm not confident enough in Austin consolation goals to get him either.

Agree. I'll probably go with only Kane and Eriksson, ditching ADM or Downing for the dane with my FT and I'm keen to keep him for a while.
Austin could be a good shout but I'm keeping Giroud for a few weeks more.
Thought also about Lloris but with Spurs not keeping any CS at all I'll pass.

You will be sweating every game wondering if he will actually be playing striker. That nutter can always start Wilson and Falcao up top. I think that is a poor transfer. And you should have obviously captained Alexis like me. Clean sheet point banked early....nailed it.

Good thinking. If you compare options,

          1. Bring in somebody like Haidara or Dawson and you get 6 points with that transfer if you lucky or

          2. use it for Austin or Eriksen and its much more likely to result in a double figure with the same transfer, even though you'll be "losing" the two points if PvA is benched. Same risk but higher reward change on this one.

          1. Ruth_NZ
            • 9 Years
            9 years, 2 months ago

Well, yes and no. If PvA has lost his place (which I think he has) then he probably needs replacing anyway. If you have to play him this week, arguably taking a hit to replace him with (say) Naughton costs only -2, not -4 (and has the upside of a possible Swansea clean sheet at Burnley).

In other words, Nick might be better to take a hit and do both.

I think that's a save mate. I mean, how many points would you expect from PvA at Old Trafford anyway? He'll probably come on for 5 minutes and get you 1 point. That will do. 😉

I don't see an easy captain choice there though.

True. If I used a FT to replace him that defender may only yield me a benefit of 1 or 2 points, whereas I'll sure benefit greater from getting Austin in next week.

Yeah, well there aren't many this week unfortunately. Probably Aguero.

Agree. I have Terry, Baines, Baird, PvA, and Bellerin in my back line. I've two ft and 0.4 itb, and therefore plan on using both ft to sell Terry to Bertrand and Baird to Dawson. This sorts my defense. In time, I will trade Baines for Ivan as the latter is clearly the stud defender to have this year. 4 goals and 4'assists with those clean sheets ytd is sick. Baines and Everton are just a lost cause, and I've made a poor choice with this hold.

Ok, I've had Baines on and off this year (as have many here), but think I need to fold em as they say. It's like a stock investment that I've held for too long due to irrational hopes for a turnaround. The points aren't ere (in part to a lack of clean sheets, and also a lack or offensive points).

Everytime an actor/actress nails a role perfectly you can't help think that it's because they are like the character in real life.. So probably she is one graaazy biatch. :I

It is amazing how different actors are from their characters. Even the character actors and bit players have gobs of talent. It's their job to play the part.

Amazing how great actors are different from their characters. Heaps of Hollywood actors always doing the same thing, for example Robert Downey Jr, Denzel, even Leo most of the time..

I get your point, but in general, I'd disagree. We may see them in some similar roles, but they do others, too, and to cherry pick a few A listers to say they typically play the same part and generalize to the industry is off, Imo.

Selling Giroud for Defoe a couple of weeks ago was a dreadful move. Was .1 off being able to go back to Giroud this week so opted for Benteke (He actually makes me dislike my team). Now Giroud has strangely dropped .1 but I need to move one of JWP or PvA so I won't be able to get him.....this game.

It's funny how we always remember those transfer that we do which fail but so often when we make the good or correct decision it's just ho hum because we always expect success. If you got it right all the time you'd be OR1 😉 Just how it goes, TD.

I saw that, and I had both. I was more wondering how my captain Kane could miss his penalty at the end (Rhetorical, the kick got 100x more pressure given it was at the end and had so much on the line). Sports can be quite random.

I noticed Palace playing well against Arsenal second half and had good possession. Pardew is starting to have an effect. Do you think he can get them defensively resilient again, like they were last season? Especially as Jedinak is almost back.

Anyone know much about their new full back Souaré?

Absolutely not. Souare has been somewhat of a disaster, albeit he's only had two games. He's put in one good cross in the two games combined, by my eye, and he will take some time to get up to snuff of the pace of the PL. Completely avoid Palace defense.

Evening. Since it is Oscrs night, have any of you seen the Costner movie Tin Cup?

I am feeling like Roy McAvoy right now -- having filed to drive the water for four weeks in a row now (and more than quadrupling my OR in the process) I know the only way forward is to go for it again: a -8 in gw27 and another in gw28 is the plan, and I should have pretty close to a team that is going to carry the water and hole out for a twelve.

Puncheon and Mane were standard picks as well, but I just got the timing wrong on them. If I didn't make the mistake of bringing Clichy in against Hull a few Gw's back, I would temporarily switch out Hazard for two weeks for Nasri, but unfortunately, that ill advised move has brought me three city players.

Might risk relaying on playing Baird in order to fund a move for a max 7.0 mid for Puncheon. Think about it. I can bring in a defender for Baird with my extra 1.5 and get 2 points (2 points for new defender and 2 points for Puncheon) or bring in a new midfielder for 7.0, and if he gets 4 points or more (assist or score), will be a significant improvement over bringing in another mediocre defender.

Will be difficult for United. Vergini, Brown and O'Shea are all good in the air so lumping it long to Fellaini may not work. 😉

Use 2 FT this week to field 11 or next week to field more DGW? Or is it moot?

I'm thinking about using my transfer this week and then a hit next week.

I love that Nasri is going under the radar.

26pts in the last 2 GWs and only 8.2m

Yeah he always seems to do so. I'd much rather have him over Silva right now and put that extra mill and change elsewhere.

Not sure I agree. The past 2 GWs are his only real points this season. Silva is much more consistent.

He's just got one of them faces.

Certainly has. I have an irrational hatred of him due to his face.

I like his face. He kind of reminds me of the Mortal Kombat character Baraka how his teeth stick so far out of his head...in a less extreme way..obviously.

I'd love to slap him with a wet haddock.

would Defoe (hull) > Austin (ARS)/(TOT) be worth -4 in gw28?

I'm weighing up the same thing with n doye vs Sunderland. Touch n go.

The top 4 and title race have really opened up lately. Even City have a chance to win it like last season.
