Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 29

With Swansea and Liverpool yet to play out the Gameweek tomorrow evening, we take a look at the new injury worries caused by the weekend’s nine fixtures.

Chelsea
Willian was replaced by Juan Cuadrado with just eight minutes remaining of today’s home draw with Southampton after picking up an injury, according to match reports.

Crystal Palace
Alan Pardew is sweating over the availability of a couple of key first-team players after Jason Puncheon (hamstring) and Wilfried Zaha (hip) were both forced off during the weekend win over QPR.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Kevin Mirallas missed today’s win over Newcastle with a knock sustained in Thursday’s Europa League victory over Dinamo Kiev. The Belgian is expected to recover in time for this week’s return trip to the Ukraine, though, after failing a late fitness test earlier today.

QPR
Rio Ferdinand missed the trip to Selhurst Park due to illness, the club’s official website has confirmed. The R’s right-back Darnell Furlong was replaced by Clint Hill at the break in Saturday’s defeat at Palace after sustaining a calf complaint, according to manager Chris Ramsey:

”Darnell came off and the only reason he did so was because his calf stiffened up and it wouldn’t have been fair to keep him on. He didn’t come off because they scored two goals.”

Southampton
Eljero Elia missed today’s trip to the Bridge with a twisted ankle, according to the local press.

Stoke
Jonathan Walters was forced off on 67 minutes with a head injury following a collision with Craig Dawson in the Potters’ 1-0 loss at West Brom. Erik Pieters was withdrawn at the break, whilst match reports indicate that Victor Moses was replaced on 57 minutes due to injury. After the match, Mark Hughes gave an update on the former and admitted he has concerns over Walters’ availability:

”Erik should be ok next weekend, but Jon is our main concern at the moment. He looks as though he has a nasty bang on his cheekbone which may well be a fracture and that will have to be checked on Monday. We hope it isn’t but it’s looking as though it could be a serious one that will keep him out for a few games.”

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher was subbed off injured on 82 minutes after sustaining what appeared to be a thigh problem during the Black Cats’ 4-0 home hammering by Villa.

West Brom
Tony Pulis faces an anxious wait on Ben Foster’s fitness after the keeper was forced off with a knee injury during the Baggies’ win over Stoke, whilst match-winner Brown Ideye was also withdrawn late on with a similar complaint.

After the match, Pulis confirmed Foster is set for scans after sustaining the injury in a challenge with the Potters’ Peter Crouch:

“We will have to get him checked. He felt his left knee go from under him. We need him fit.”

West Ham
The Hammers keeper Adrian played from start to finish in the 3-0 loss at Arsenal despite dislocating his finger in the warm-up. Assistant boss Neil McDonald revealed post-match:

”He’s been a brave lad today because he could easily have pulled out. And he’s made some great saves. He has his finger strapped up to play and I’m hoping that if he played today he should alright for next week. He did it in the warm-up but he wanted to carry on. I haven’t ever dislocated my finger so I don’t know how much pain he was in but it’s obviously a big thing for a goalkeeper.”

Why I won't be captaining Kane:

Since Leicester reverted to playing with 5 at the back in GW25, they conceded to...

    - Walcott and Koscielny
    - Naismith and Upson (OG)
    - Silva and Milner
    - And kept a clean sheet against Hull

Small sample size I know, but what do these results show? No goals conceded to strikers, namely Giroud, Lukaku, Aguero, Bony, N'doye and Jelavic. Playing with 3 central defenders is clearly diminishing the impact of opposition strikers, limiting their space and increasing Leicester's chance of blocking their shots. When you add in the fact that Spurs have played a huge amount of games recently, tiredness was clearly evident in yesterday's game, and they have a tendency to be inconsistent against 'weak' teams at home, that rules out the Hurrikane as a captain contender this week for me.

Leicester also conceded to Sinclair and Bacuna in the FA Cup, keeping their sole striker Benteke scoreless.

you could have a point there, however even Jelly had a 1,000% chance which I am still shocked he missed. Pretty sure Kane will get at least one similar chance and he is usually not as blind as Jelly...

It's like my team is being managed by Big Sam - another red arrow, and it's petering out into mediocrity. A score of 25 means I've now dropped from 635 to 13,499 in 13 weeks.

However, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water, and I'm actually tempted to save this week?

And as below, I think I'll do PVA to Schlupp, as well as Jones to Lovren/Moreno, soon, but it doesn't really make sense this week with fixtures.

I'm going to mix it up now, will probably save this week and then, in the weeks before the DGW, look at something like:

Jones, PVA, Eriksen, Kane and maybe Aguero out
Moreno, Schlupp, Coutinho, Giroud and maybe Costa in

I'll probably end up finishing around 100k...

I think its between Siggy and Mane for me? Set pieces for Siggy maybe sway it

Giroud > Rooney is fine no?

        Playing up front
        Doesn't have a blank 33
Can swap to Giroud for 34/double

This is what I was thinking tbh.
Cazorla is playing too deep for me I am gonna take a punt on Siggy or Fellini to free up funds to do Giroud to Rocky balboa

Do you have some Mane in the fridge?

Hi mate, you will probably know the answer. Do 3rd and 4th in the Scottish Championship play each in a playoff with the winner playing 2nd in the league? And the winner of that then plays 2nd bottom in the SPL?

Fellaini (6.3) is starting to look like a decent punt.
    Walters -> Fellaini sound OK?

Fixtures are tough though, he's still more likely to get yellow cards than he is goals.

Sanchez not worth his price anymore? Feels riskier ditching him ahead of Cazorla

He hasnt been worth the money since he came back from injury
you can get two great mids if you take him out

I would take him out. He isnt producing anything that you would expect from 11m player.

It's just who replaces him, that's where I'm stuck.

Think it's due to the fixtures mainly. He scored last game as well didn't he? Tonight is a bit of a write-off, most looking past that game.

    Morning all,

So if Foster is out then its between...

    A) Lloris
    or
    B) Forster

    (I have Clyne & Rose)

Could be. Tempted to swap Forster and bellerin to ospina and alderweild. Saves 0.5 and makes an extra dgw bench space for 33. Good moves?
