Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Swansea vs Liverpool

A dire Gameweek 29 limps to its conclusion this evening as Swansea and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Liberty. Brendan Rodgers returns to his former club having guided the Reds to a 12-match unbeaten run since moving to a 3-4-2-1 formation and the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge have the chance to get amongst the points against a defence with a single shut-out in six in front of their own fans.

At the back, the visitors have been a consistent source of clean sheets in recent matches. The Merseysiders have kept out their opponents in six of the last eight Gameweeks and have Martin Skrtel available after the Slovakian recovered from a head knock that forced him off on a stretcher against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup stalemate last time out. Mamadou Sakho also returns as one of three centre-backs as Dejan Lovren drops to the bench. Rodgers has made further changes in the wing-back roles, with Glen Johnson and Lazar Markovic dropping to the bench: Alberto Moreno is recalled on the left while Raheem Sterling looks to be deployed on the right.

The hosts, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from their 3-2 loss at Spurs in Gameweek 28. Prior to that defeat, Garry Monk’s men had registered back-to-back victories and earned three points in their previous match at the Liberty, courtesy of a 2-1 win over United.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was back in the goals last time out and has the upcoming fixtures to earn himself a place in our five-man midfields again, whilst Ki Sung-Yeung has notched three times in the last five and, at 5.1 in FPL, is staking a claim as a cheap budget option.

The teamsheet finds Monk forced into one change as Jordi Amat comes in for Federico FernΓ‘ndez who misses out for family reasons. Up front, Bafetimbi Gomis is available to lead the line after recovering from his collapse at White Hart Lane in the previous Gameweek.

I'm planning on writing a little poem for/about Doosra and I'd love to have some ideas from you lot about what to include in it. If you have any memories about players he likes, players he doesn't like, players he refuses to buy, stats tables that he puts a lot of emphasis on, his famous quotes and sayings, or anything else that you think is appropriate, then comment below. Cheers.

Jonty's dog went missing and he posted about it on here. Doos happened to know the area and suggested a few places to look, and lo and behold it was hanging out in one of the spots he mentioned!

Speculation abounds that Doos is a dognapper πŸ˜†

How about mentioning Ironic Foundry, and West Ham winning the European Cup-Winners Cup in 1965 under the captaincy of Bobby Moore and supplying 3 players to the England World Cup-winning team the following year.

...Doos is a big fan of the Hammers, who are also sometimes called the Irons. Their greatest success was in 1965 when they became the first English team to win a European trophy. Their three players who played such a big part in England's World Cup victory in 1966 were of course Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters.

    Foster, Myhill,
    Pieters, Clyne, PVA, Naughton, Rose,
    Eriksen, Hazard, Silva, Sanchez, Boyd,
    Giroud, Kane, Aguero

    1.3m, 2ft's
    WC still available.

    Ozil- Sanchez
    Ivanovic- Rose
    Any good?
Costa- Aguero another on the radar.

Exact money for Sterling + Moreno > Mane + Ivanovic.

Btw, I have Terry, Clyne, Rose and McShane as well, and I don't have Giroud. I play 3-5-2 with Ayoze bench fodder, Aguero and Kane. Other mids are Hazard, Silva, Cazorla, Eriksen.

@Ruth NZ, i cannot believe you still cannot see that value≠points. Let's try another scenario.

    Player A goes at 6ppg.
    Player B goes at 6.1ppg.

    Player A costs 6m
    Player B costs 10m.

If value=points Player B represents more value than Player A.

    He doesn't.

I think it depends on what you do with extra cash. If that 4m is going to be in bank, then B provides value but if that 4m is going to be invested than that 2nd player will be an important factor. Say, Costa, Ozil and Bruce vs Giroud, Mane and Ivan. 2nd MIGHT provides more pts and thus better value?

This little (and ignorant) campaign of yours is becoming tedious.

Here's what I said in that post:

"Value = points. You have a limited budget. The task is to get maximum points per £1m."

I also commented about the different value calculation for captains.

Value = points is shorthand for the basic structure of how the game works. Your repeated attempts to argue with this are bewildering.

"I am now in a dark hotel, but soon I'll be working in the Stadium of Light." Dick Advocaat confirms he will be in charge of Sunderland.

What kind of manager is he? I know he is very experienced and successful, but in fpl how does his arrival affect us? Is he attacking-minded or defensive-minded? We can count on Sunderland not being so shite that is for sure. I think what most will want to know is whether defensive assets are still worth keeping (Panti and Pva mainly). I guess there isn't anyone worth having from their forwards and midfielders.

Can anyone shed a light on Dick Advocaat's track record from a defensive perspective?
