Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 33

We roll out our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries, with City’s playmaker issuing positive news after being stretchered off during today’s win over West Ham.

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker is an early injury for the Gunners clash with Chelsea next Sunday after limping off on 63 minutes during the semi-final win over Reading. Arsene Wenger confirmed post-match:

“It’s an ankle injury. He limped badly so it doesn’t look too good really.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker was replaced early on during the midlanders’ cup win over Liverpool today. After the match, Tim Sherwood confirmed he expects the defender to be ruled out for the rest of the campaign:

“We’ve not too big a squad and we’ve lost Nathan Baker today, Ciaran Clark last week, so we’ve got two fit centre backs. They did really well today, Jores Okore and Ron Vlaar. They’re the only two we’re going with between now an the end of the season, so we’re not blessed in defensive areas. It looks like Nathan’s season is over. It’s a really bad knee injury, and we know how long that normally takes.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rolled out an update on Willian, after the winger was only fit enough to make the bench against United.

”Willian coming on was a bonus I wanted to give him, he’s been in bed for two days and today he came straight from his house, making himself available to give us some help, he was fantastic.”

Everton
James McCarthy is set to be assessed after sustaining an ankle knock in Saturday’s home win over Burnley.

Leicester
David Nugent was withdrawn from the starting XI as a precaution after picking up a calf problem during the warm-up prior to the Foxes win over Swansea.

Man City
David Silva was stretchered off during City’s win over West Ham after being elbowed by Cheick Kouyate. Refusing to blame the Senegal international. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Silva – who needed several minutes’ treatment before leaving the field – was set for hospital scans:

“At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek. I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player, the ref decided it was unintentional and I also think that.”

An hour later, though, Silva allayed fears of any injury by confirming he was given the all-clear:

“Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I’m already home.”

Post-match reports suggest Samir Nasri has sustained a leg problem after replacing Silva with quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock.

Southampton
Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off during the Saints loss at Stoke yesterday afternoon. The Belgian needed oxygen after sustaining a shoulder injury, with Ronald Koeman optimistic on his prospects post-match:

“Toby looks OK now. It’s his shoulder and we maybe have to wait until the scan or something else to know exactly what happened. It’s his shoulder but he’s back on his place and will be good I think.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that he is having to manage Peter Crouch’s pitch time over the run-in as a result of an ongoing groin problem. The big striker has failed to start the last three and was afforded just 15 minutes against Southampton yesterday, with his manager conceding:

“Crouchy is struggling with a groin problem at the moment and the likelihood is that he is going to need an operation once the season ends. At the moment he is probably only fit enough for 25 to 30 minutes at the end of games so we are having to be careful with how we utilise him.”

West Brom
Craig Dawson was replaced on 71 minutes during the Baggies win at Palace after picking up a knee injury, according to match reports.

    James > Cambiasso for -4.

    Yay or Nay?

I don't think James will play in either game.

Hmmm so you're saying that all I need to do is go in to the future, find out if he plays or not, and then come back and set my line up accordingly?

            Thanks!

I would an assist from Cambiasso will pretty much pay the -4.

I do, just not Double Game-weekers.

Trying to decide if it's better to leave it as is (and probably put Walters on for James)..

OR trade James for Cambiasso for a hit.

After saying this about Costa last week it will be interesting to hear this coming weeks press conference

‘As I have said our target is for Diego to play the last four matches, and Arsenal is the sixth match before the end, so if he doesn’t play against Arsenal or Leicester it’s not a problem because our focus was on four, but things are going so well that we think he has a chance to play next weekend.’

Thoughts on this DGW team would be appreciated. Have got rid of Remy as if fit can see him only playing one with Costa most likely back as well.

    Panti, (Myhill)
    Terry, Skrtel, Clyne, (Bellerin, Alder)
    Hazard, Sanchez, Fabregas, Coutinho, Sterling
    Vardy, Aguero, (Kane)
    0.9 in the bank
    Thanks.

not convinced on clyne, especially when you have alderweireld. Southhampton have some tough fixtures and aren't looking solid right now.. think you could get better value for your money elsewhere.

I also don't think I'd want panti for any week other than next week, i wouldn't play him for DGW and west brom have liverpool united arsenal and chelsea coming up before the end of season.. I don't know if you are well covered there at all.

Brilliant team mate !! I'm a wild carder and have been going thru every fpl forums known to mankind and that's one of the best non wc teams I've seen. Only concern would be lack of Silva but that can always be reversed.Cheers..)

This next gameweek is doing my head in already. Scared of getting Liverpool players because they are a bunch of underachievers. Scared not to get them because everyone will be filling up. Chelsea don't look that good either anymore. Bizzarely Leicester do look good but they are still Leicester. Every man and his dog seems to be wanting to rub their damn wildcard in your face.

How the hell you can beat wildcards by taking hits I do not know!

Most wildcarders are miles behind by now anyway. Holding this long usually is the best thing to do as they chase team value for the rest of the season.

1/2 of people left in LMS still have their wildcard. How can I compete with that. Assuming they all beat me for score this week there must be something like 5 spots left for non wildcarders to go through

Or maybe they still have their wildcard because they didn't need to use it and are ranked inside the top 300..

Your post implies that the best ranked managers always wildcard early.

The best way to beat them is to have 3 Liverpool and 3 Chelsea players with no hits. Then expect Leicester and Hull players to all flop because they are in rubbish teams that should get relegated.

My aim will be to pick the players I actually want, and ignore the dgw. 2 Chelsea at the moment and 1 Pool. I have 2 FTs, and going on the fixtures I may wind up with 3 from Che and 2 from Pool or the other way around. But seeing as City play Villa at the Etihad, Palace are home to Hull etc. I'm happy to play the players I own from those teams.

Not every man and his dog has a wildcard but those that do are making is fairly obvious on the boards.

If mini leagues are a priority then consider those. For example no-one in my mini league that has a shot at winning as a wildcard.

If I go for a -12 to get 7 DGW players I still have a lead of 32 points and am 5 DGW players ahead knowing that my main rival has Aguero / Giroud / Kane and is unlikely to get rid of any of them. He probably also can't afford to get Fab + 2 Pool mids so again I should be ahead of him there.

You probably can't beat a wildcarder with hits, or at least it's not easy but it's not the be all and end all. Unless those with a wildcard are the same or higher in rank then it might not make any difference that they hung on this long.

I just watched highlights of the Cup semi-final yesterday and Liverpool looked really poor. Villa seemed to be way more confident and played some very nice football. Gerrard just seems to kill that team, I'm sure Brodge can't wait to see the back of him.
      This dgw is a nightmare.

Buy buying Cambiasso this week for a 6 point mega haul, Rémy the week before (a bit disappointing but hopefully fit for the DGW) and Mignolet a couple of weeks before that grabbing is penalty save against United. I can have potentially 7 doublers with 1 hit, and if I had not bought Duff to cover Rémy this week it would have been with no hits.

I currently 2 Chelsea, 2 Liverpool and 2 Leicester, one free transfer and 6.8 in the bank. Considering swapping Matt Phillips for either a Liverpool or Chelsea midfielder, but I also have Silva so will wait for more news on him and might transfer him out instead.

I have genuinely been considering saving the free transfer! But the last double gameweek just seemed to punish anyone who hadn't maxed out their DGWers.

Yeah it does but actually it's a stupid question as it should be more like:

        A) Keep Remy (4 point hit total)

        B) Remy to Vardy (8 point hit total)

        C) Remy to Vardy, Boyd to Fabregas (12 point hit total)

2 chelsea could be more than enough when they are likely to play conservatively..

I don't think it's worth an 8 or 12 point hit. they are not guaranteed to return that, or even give any advantage on it.

not taking the hit and having different players could be a differential in and of itself.

I have got Vardy but I think he'll be gone next week for Giroud. If you're taking a hit you have to be considering whether that player will be staying in your team for just the one game

Clyne.. Expensive and not guaranteed a start
Jones.. May or may not play
Bellerin.. Arsenal have all their wing backs and wenger might rotate him

Where do you think Klopp would end up next season?

I can see only 4 possible destinations. City,PSG,Liverpool and Real Madrid.

If Real fail to win any of the CL or La Liga, Ancelotti could be gone. But Klopp has said that he would not coach in a country where he doesn't speak the language(though the allure of RM may be to hard to say no to)..

If PSG fail to win Ligue 1, then this could be a possibility but Blanc has done very well for them. Again, he doesn't speak the language.

    City for obvious reasons.

Liverpool has a very slender chance imo. If he decides to come to England then that City squad will attract him far more than the Pool squad and better wages and contract for him at City as well.

Can't see him going to Serie A.

    What do you think? 🙂

Any of those listed and I do think Serie A is a possible runner.

Regarding Liverpool, I would be surprised as he spent the last 7 years working under the financial constraints of Dortmund and watched their best players repeatedly be head hunted away. I just can't see him signing up for the exact same thing at Liverpool. I'd be somewhat surprised at City.

I do think Ancelotti or Blanc could leave and could see him at either, with Ancelotti going to City.

he's going to pool, there's a reason why he's left mutually, pool need to pay off rodgers aswell as klopp. so now they only need to pay off rodgers it gives klopp a bigger budget for transfers typical pool being cheap . Klopp has been head hunter for over 3 yrs by fsg because he's the perfect manger they want. Rodgers was close to getting sacked last season before january and like wise this season. he's gone already at the end of the yr being out of the cup doesn't change a thing.

Klopp has alreaady said he'll only join Arsenal, Man utd or Pool in the Epl, his only other language he knows is english so he's coming here. makes pool favourites unless wenger hangs it up which I don't see. van gual has done a good job so man utd won'tt be getting him nor will it help changing a manager again that doesn't deserve the sack.

May I ask where your sources are on this? Because you keep saying that for 3 years FSG have been formulating this plan with him (which I simply don't believe tbh) so I'd love to know who is going around saying all this.

Plus it ignores the fact that Pool need to give a bigger wage budget, a different transfer system and ditch a manager they just helped to spend all the Suarez money. I mean, if they were in contact for the last 3 years I would have thought they'd have saved some of that massive money for Klopp to use.

these are the rumours that come up consistently here Fsg have been close too sacking rodgers twice already even with coming 2nd last season they've constantly have been speaking with klopp trying to convince him to come. he rejected them the first time before they hired rodgers because he wanted to be at dortmund, they approached him again and he said he wasn't ready because of the language barrier.

the timing just seems right now, pool even played pre season friendly with them, don't you think it could have been just to see what the area is like and have a secret chat with the owner. there's too many things that point towards them trying to convince him. City I know are backing Pelle and he won't be getting sacked they're looking more at Ancelotti/Pep if Pelle doesn't do well again.

anyway i'll leave it at that

If he trains normally this week then he should be fine to play next weekend. The problem will be if he has concussion - he won't be allowed to train normally this week and obviously will be a doubt for the Villa game. I'll be watching carefully to see what happens, we should know during the week.

I want to bring in Benteke after GW34. Not sure what to do with Silva (get Coutinho?), he would eventually go for Ozil in the next few weeks. No point of having Wollscheid I guess, I want someone cheap too.

In the last 10 matches Chelsea have scored more than once only 3 times, with all other 7 times scoring only once. We scored once twice and only once against Hull 3 goals.

I am reconsidering getting Fabregas. I am thinking maybe Terry could be better and double defence. Hmmm...

On the other hand that game against Arsenal will be epic for Fabregas so he might do something

I am banking on Fabregas turning it on, though people say he generally peters out at the end of seasons. The fact that terry and ivan have a fairly comparable amount of attacking threat makes them easier choices but I don't know if they will keep many clean sheets

Welp, thanks to the Tottenham boys and the addition of Schlupp instead of Jones, the week turned out a little bit better than I could have expected. Now the question is, do I spend next week (was hoarding an extra transfer that I ended up using once Jones came up injured) with this bunch or not. Got a slim margin in my league, but the Aguero sale still haunts me.

    Krul (Adrian)
Wolly, Ivanovic (DG), Schlupp (DG) (Kosc-Bertrand)
    Caz-Hendo (DG)-Siggy-Hazard (DG)-Eriksen
    Austin-Kane (Berahino)

Berahino was a very useless roll of the dice because of fixtures which do not look like getting better (although my money wouldn't exactly be against him scoring at OT, much like I thought Aguero would but sold him anyways). Fixtures might also suggest Siggy's departure. So now the question is do I roll the dice yet again on N'Doye/Vardy/Ulloa or even Drogba or go a safer route? Have 4.3 to spend.
