I’ve decided to run a UEFA Champions League style tournament this season for the FFScout community. This is going to be a spreadsheet-based game using your Fantasy Premier League scores in a tournament that mimics the format and dates of the UEFA Champions League tournament.

I’m looking to start with 64 entrants for the qualifying stages, which will produce 32 teams for the group stages and eventually lead to the knockout rounds.

The Qualifying rounds will be  a head-to-head format and will take place over Gameweeks 2 and 4 of the Premier League. The total score for both game weeks is counted and the highest total gets through to the group stages.

The group stages work much like the real thing, with eight groups of four teams playing each other twice over the course of the season. Teams will get three points for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The two highest scoring teams from each group will advance to the knockout stages of the tournament. All the group games will take into account each team’s FPL Gameweek score for the week closest to the actual Champion’s League dates. The fixture list will be released in due course.

The knockout stages are also a head-to-head style, much like the qualifying rounds are. Teams will play two legs on two separate Gameweeks and their total score will be taken into account for this. In the even of a tie, the team with the most goals scored will win. The final will only be one match.

    There's been an extraordinary amount of interest for this competition so far. The 64 entrants have provisionally been filled. However, there will be a reserve list in case people drop out.

    Once again, thank you for the interest shown. This is the first year the tournament is running and all goes well I'm sure it will continue for many seasons 😀

    ***UPDATE***

    Due to popular demand for this competition, I have decided to increase the number of teams to 128! 😀

    The qualifying rounds will still be Head-to-head based and will take place on GW2 and GW4. These will be single elimination, meaning those teams who are successful in GW2 will advance to the second qualifying round on GW4. Then after GW4, 32 successful teams will proceed to the group stages.

    We've almost reached 100 teams so if you're interested, please email myself with the information above. It's very important to email me your FPL ID, as I have had a few people email me with everything but that piece of information. If you don't know where it is, look under the 'View Gameweek History' under Points/Rankings.

      By the next Sterling, I mean a pacy dribbler who gets into advanced positions and scores goals, not that he's a prima donna who thinks he's at Nik Bendtner's level.
