This evening, we cast an eye over some of the most pertinent Fantasy topics for the upcoming round of fixtures. Kevin de Bruyne, Anthony Martial and Dimitri Payet all have a chance to continue their fine form, whilst we’ll be keeping a keen eye on Southampton, Liverpool and United’s defensive set-ups and monitoring Alexis Sanchez’ showing at Leicester as many start to consider replacements.

De Bruyne as the differential…
A midweek strike against whipping boys Sunderland took the Belgian’s tally to two goals in as many starts since arriving at City. With David Silva still uncertain to feature and Sergio Aguero yet to discover his top gear, De Bruyne looks the form attacker as the league leaders head to White Hart Lane. Sitting in just 3% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) sides, the summer signing has the perfect chance to stake a claim ahead of some very favourable fixtures for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Mahrez and Vardy against the Gunners…
Two of the most consistent players in the 2015/16 season so far, the Leicester duo have blanked in just one of the first six Gameweeks. A home clash against Arsenal is the first time Claudio Ranieri’s side have faced any of last term’s top four, though, handing the Foxes their stiffest test so far. Can Mahrez and Vardy continue their remarkable start or will the Gunners finally clip their momentum?

Sanchez’ final roll of the dice…
For many Fantasy managers, the Chilean’s output at the King Power will have a significant say in next week’s transfers. Despite his failure to find the net, Sanchez’ underlying stats remain outstanding and given that Claudio Ranieri’s men have conceded in every match so far, the Arsenal winger’s owners still harbour hopes of a weekend haul. Find the net and most will surely retain his services but another blank may well be the final straw as the fixtures start to turn against him.

Gomez’ minutes…
Benched for the first time this term after Brendan Rodgers rolled out a 3-4-1-2 at home to Norwich, the youngster’s 20% owners are bracing themselves for a major exodus. With Alberto Moreno impressing in the left wing-back berth, the versatile Gomez could yet stake a claim in the back-three at home to Villa – another spot on the bench, though, and the transfers out will pick up pace.

Martial’s chance to keep the bandwagon rolling…
The transfers in since Sunday’s brace at St Mary’s are edging towards the half-million mark ahead of United’s home clash against Sunderland. Martial’s goal against Ipswich in the cup last night has ensured he remains in the headlines and, for many, his relatively modest outlay (8.3) looks too good to ignore for a first-choice forward in a top four side. Up against the league’s most porous defence, another haul from the young Frenchman will trigger another scramble for his signature.

Van Gaal’s defensive set-up…
After hauling off Matteo Darmian at the break away to Southampton, the United boss handed Antonio Valencia a first start of the season at home to Ipswich in the cup on Wednesday evening. With Marcos Rojo joining Luke Shaw on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem, Ashley Young was afforded the left-back berth, and with Daley Blind continuing at centre-half, United’s back-four essentially consisted of three FPL midfielders alongside Chris Smalling last night. If Van Gaal keeps faith in his midweek backline, our options look severely restricted until the treatment room empties again.

Swansea’s attack at St Mary’s…
It’s three matches in all competitions without a goal for Garry Monk’s side now as their early-season form starts to wane. Granted, the Swans boss rang the changes for the midweek cup loss to Hull but there’s no question that the chances are drying up for both Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis. A trip to St Mary’s precedes three home fixtures in four, though with two of those visitors Stoke and Arsenal, many owners will be having second thoughts if the Welsh side misfire yet again.

Koeman’s Full-Backs ….
Despite chalking up three straight clean sheets, the Saints boss dropped Cedric Soares for the first time this term in last week’s 3-2 loss to United. Replacement Maya Yoshida hardly covered himself in glory after gifting the Red Devils a goal, whilst over on the left, Matt Targett’s pitch time was curtailed after he was hauled off at the break for Cuco Martina. With Ryan Bertrand returning to action in the cup win over MK Dons last night, the Dutchman has big decisions to make in both full-back positions as Swansea roll up to St Mary’s.

Chelsea’s momentum against the ailing Magpies…
Three victories in all competitions, with one goal conceded and ten scored, suggest the Blues are back in business at both ends of the pitch. A trip to crisis club Newcastle hands Chelsea the perfect chance to continue their winning streak as their chief assets stake a claim for our consideration. Diego Costa may be suspended but Eden Hazard and Pedro have both bagged a goal apiece over the last few days to strengthen their claim for inclusion in our future plans, whilst a fifth straight start for Kurt Zouma could persuade plenty to take the plunge.

Bojan as a cheap third forward…
The little Spaniard was quick to make an impact on his first start of the season last weekend. Despite being fielded in the role in “the hole”, Bojan’s goal and maximum bonus points against Leicester suggest he could vie with the likes of Callum Wilson and Odion Ighalo in the budget forward bracket. At a price of 5.3, he hosts a Bournemouth defence that’s conceded in all but one match so far and has the subsequent schedule to reward early adopters.

Payet as an armband contender…
The West Ham playmaker sits third in this week’s Captain Poll as Fantasy managers turn to form, rather than price tag, as the big hitters continue to disappoint. Payet has scored three of the Hammers’ six home strikes and has played a part in three of their four goals since Slaven Bilic handed him the central support role in a 4-2-3-1. With Norwich, Sunderland and Palace’s porous defences in the next three, the Frenchman has the platform to rack up the points.

I've on WC and I've got three spaces in unsure of. Would you go:

    A: Sanchez, Pedro, Zouma
    B: Hazard, KDB, Francis
    C: something completely different?

The choice is basically the two big hitters. I've had Sanchez a while and feel like he'll deliver as soon as I get rid which puts me off selling him. However KDB is a great differential and I've got lots of catching up to do.

    Any suggestions welcome, cheers!

Are people worried about Darmian now?

Certainly, him coming off early is an issue, but the Ipswitch lineup surely cant be a good indicator of Van Gaals PL set up...?

Unfortunately I havent had much time to see him play - has he been struggling performance wise?

I already have to sort some defensive issues out this week and Darmian not playing will only add to my woes...

      10 years, 2 months ago

I'm an owner and I can say i'm just a tiny tiny bit worried only (because I got a good def line up). Form-wise I wont say hes been struggling, only in the game vs Soton I think it was justified because Tadic did get a lot of the ball and putting crosses in.

My thinking is, hes the player brought in to upgrade Valencia on the right side. So it would be demoralizing for the player if after one bad (really not that bad) Van Gaal gonna prompt back to Valencia.

Even if Van Gaal decides to go on with Valencia, Darmian can play left back, so we can hope on that. I say, not too worry much at this point.

    Hi everyone.

    I'm having a benching dilemma.
At this stage, I'm thinking of fielding my team like this:-

    Butland (BOU)

Francis (stk) Janmaat (CHE) Kolarov (tot)

Shaqiri (BOU) Ozil (lei) Yaya Toure (tot) Payet (NOR)

Wilson (stk) Aguero (tot) Ighalo (CRY)

Bench: Ruddy (whu) Mahrez (ARS) Richards (liv) Morgan (ARS)

I think I'll go Payet (C) and Ighalo (VC)

    Is benching Mahrez too risky?
If it is, who should I bench for him to play?
    Any thoughts?

    1. BearHug
      • 10 Years
      10 years, 2 months ago

My thinking is, if I were to play Mahrez, I would bench Wilson and go 3-5-2. I would just compare Mahrez and Wilson I think.

With Mahrez, 1. you know hes hot right now.2. Leicester do like to attack and 3. they playing at home. If you imagine that Arsenal shaky at the back and will concede a goal (or goals) then most likely Mahrez will be involved. On penalty also. Then you consider Wilson.

I personally would play Mahrez and take the chance that Wilson wont score at Stoke.

          I have same benching issue.
But I am considering benching Yaya instead of Mahrez, but I think I will end up benching Wilson.

Also, if both Mahrez and Wilson scores, Mahrez is more likely to get bonus.

True. I think that I will bench Wilson also.

Looking at the stats, Yaya has far more shots per game than Wilson plus creates chances unlike Wilson

    all

My wc is in play this week and I'm almost there but just wanted a few opinions

    Begovic - McCarthy

    Bellerin - Zouma - Kolarov - Evans - Nyom

    Payet - Pedro - Mahrez - KDB - Hoolahan

    Aguero - Martial - Wilson

    Questions:

    The big one:

I've gone for KDB and pedro instead of a mid priced (mata/ayew/mane) + hazard/sanchez, im a bit hesitant to play the wc and come away without one of those big hitters. Hazard picked up a few points last time and Leicester have been pretty bad at the back so I'm asuming Sanchez may grab a few. Thoughts/suggestions please?

I've gone with Evans and Nyom over Francis as a bit of a differential.

I'm also considering replacing Wilson with Ighalo, any thoughts on this one? Havent seen enough of either team, but both seem to be in form

    1. BearHug
      • 10 Years
      10 years, 2 months ago

Goalkeepers are OK. Just be aware that you will need a transfer for when Courtois return. McCarthy is cheap, just need to check news on Speroni.

I like the defs, you seems confident in Zouma where most are still deciding if hes nailed on.

As for midfielders, Sanchez is Sanchez. Hes fixture-proof I think. He can score vs Sunderland he can score vs Man City its the same thing. Its just that he is not hitting the target at the moment. Not in form.

Hoolahan's time on the pitch is being managed I think. So maybe, look for better 5th midfielder? Lazy to calculate your ITB.

If getting Ighalo makes you get extra fund for better 5th midfielder, Id go Ighalo.

          hoolahan > morrison
          wilson > ighalo

          So I'm thhinking

          Begovic - McCarthy

          Bellerin - Zouma - Kolarov - 4.5m - Nyom

          Payet - Pedro - Mahrez - Sanchez - Morrison

          Aguero - Martial - Ighalo

Here's how my team is shaping up:

    Butland (Gomes)
Kolarov / Dawson / Nyom (Bellerin / Targett)
Silva / Mahrez / Payet / Barkley (Ayew)
    Aguero (C) / Gomis / Wilson

Got 1 FT and 1.9mn £ITB. Not sure whether to gamble on Silva being fit or to swap him out for KdB. Also tempted to try and get Pedro in for the Newcastle and coming fixtures but that would probably mean losing Ayew or Barkley as well as selling Gomis to bring in Ighalo. Worth the 4 points?

That's what I was thinking but if I'm benching Shaqiri at home to Bournemouth then why do I even have him in my team?

Haha, good question. I was sorely tempted to bring him in last week on my WC as Stoke has some decent fixtures over the next few weeks but unfortunately he hasn't delivered much in terms of points other than in his first week. Perhaps with Bojan back there will be more opportunities though?

Well I'm bringing in a city mid next week as they've got Newcastle and Bournemouth both at home as their next two fixtures so this is Shaqiri's last chance to shine although Stoke have villa next week

Need to get rid of Costa - who do I replace him with?

Martial the obvious option, currently got Aguero and Sakho upfront.

My team at the moment is -

    Butland
    Kolarov-Francis-Souare
    Yaya-Oscar-Puncheon-Bolasie-Coutinho
    Aguero-Sakho

It's a pretty left field team, however I feel I have already missed the Mahrez bandwagon and have only recently sold the likes of Hazard.

    Advice is much appreciated!

      Costa -> Lukaku maybe?
next week you could go Oscar -> Pedro or consider Bolasie -> Shaqiri

Did you follow my advice (Lukaku)? Big points!
