Eden Hazard is named amongst the subs as Willian fires Chelsea to victory against Dynamo Kiev. Arsenal are hammered in Munich as their injury worries ramp up at the back, Son Heung-Min returns to contention for Tottenham, whilst Daryl Janmaat is expected to be available for Newcastle’s trip to Bournemouth.

Willian Wins it for Blues

Chelsea sneaked a 2-1 home win over Dynamo Kiev courtesy of an own goal and a sublime free-kick from Willian in the 83rd minute. Jose Mourinho opted to bench Eden Hazard, fielding Oscar (left), Cesc Fabregas (number ten) and Willian (right) in behind Diego Costa. Pedro made a return to the subs bench and was called into action at the 79-minute mark, but Branislav Ivanovic didn’t make the matchday squad.

The Scout Says: Willian has undoubtedly been the Blues’ most consistent performer on the attacking front and now boasts four goals and three assists across all competitions. As such, the tireless Brazilian seems certain to retain his starting berth when Chelsea lock horns with Stoke at the Britannia Stadium, though there are question marks over who will fill the other two slots behind Costa going forward. Certainly, given that Mourinho felt compelled to demote Hazard for their crucial Champions League clash against the Ukrainian giants, it would be no surprise to see the 11.0-priced midfielder benched for the second league match in four Gameweeks. With showdowns against Norwich, Spurs, Bournemouth, Leicester, Sunderland and Watford following on from their Britannia clash, Willian – at just 6.8 in FPL – is looking a real differential punt, with a mere 3% ownership.

Defensive Concerns for Gunners

Arsenal were comprehensively outclassed by Bayern Munich as they fell to a 5-1 defeat at the Allianz Arena. Assisted by Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud netted a consolation goal in the 68th minute to starve the hosts of a shut-out. Mathieu Debuchy and Gabriel filled in for Hector Bellerin and Laurent Koscielny, though the latter was fit enough for the bench after sustaining a minor hip problem. Whilst Koscielny is expected to be passed fit for Sunday’s clash with Spurs, Arsene Wenger is far less optimistic on the young Spaniard’s prospects:

“I don’t think Bellerin will be available for Sunday but there is a small chance. From tonight we don’t have any new injuries.”

The Scout Says: Notwithstanding his limited starts this term, Giroud has amassed eight goals for the Gunners in just 869 minutes of pitch time in all competitions. The surfeit of strong options among the full roster of mid-priced forwards has somewhat overshadowed the fact that the 8.7-priced Frenchman has blanked just twice in seven outings (two starts) and faces match-ups against West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City, Sunderland and Aston Villa in the next four Gameweeks. Whilst his injury doesn’t look a long-term worry, Bellerin’s likely absence this weekend is a real blow for his 22% owners after he rose to second in the defender standings on the back of an assist and three clean sheets in the last four. Given that replacement Mathieu Debuchy had a torrid time against Danny Rose in the Gunners’ recent League Cup victory over Spurs, those Fantasy managers who’ve recruited the likes of Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen will feel a little more positive as Spurs look to breach a backline that’s conceded just once in their last four home matches at the Etihad.

Pochettino Handed Son Boost

Son Heung-Min has recovered from a foot injury and is available for selection when Tottenham Hotspur host Anderlecht on Thursday night – although Mauricio Pochettino is yet to decide whether he starts the South Korean winger. Elsewhere in the Lilywhites camp, Danny Rose is touch-and-go for the Europa League clash due to a dead leg but is expected to make the North London derby, while Nabil Bentaleb returned to training but is short of match fitness:

“Sonny is in the squad and in contention. We now have to decide if he plays from the beginning or if it’s better to put him on the bench. Nabil is training well but he’s not match fit yet. Danny is better, it was a dead leg but it’s not a big issue, he still has a chance, but we have a strong squad and if he isn’t 100% maybe we’ll wait until the next game.”

The Scout Says: Considering that Mousa Dembele has scored in back-to-back matches and Erik Lamela notched a goal and an assist in his previous two starts, Son faces a tough task to immediately reclaim his starting berth. Nonetheless, the 7.9-priced forward has three goals in five appearances in all competitions and furnishes Spurs’ attack with pace it otherwise doesn’t possess, providing Pochettino with food for thought. Although Delle Alli has been hugely impressive since his switch from League One outfit MK Dons in the summer, Bentaleb could earn a share of starts alongside Eric Dier, thus lightening the load on the 19-year-old and averting the risk of burn-out. Pochettino could also utilise Dembele in a deep-lying role too, if he chooses to hand Son a quick return to the first XI.

Magpies Optimistic on Janmaat

Newcastle coach Paul Simpson revealed that Daryl Janmaat trained on Tuesday and could be passed for the Magpies’ trip to Bournemouth, having been forced off late against Stoke City with a knee complaint:

“We are hopeful that Daryl is available for the weekend. He just jarred his knee. He has trained on Tuesday but sat out of Monday, which was only a light session anyway.”

The Scout Says: Over the last four Gameweeks, Janmaat managed just a single attempt on goal, marking a significant downturn in his goal threat of late. That being said, he’s displayed strong assist-potential over that stretch, with only three defenders racking up more key passes (six). Janmaat’s 3% ownership will be encouraged by the fact that Newcastle held the Potters to a 0-0 stalemate last time out and now embark on a decent trio of match-ups (bou, LEI, cry). The Cherries encounter looks particularly promising, given that no side has crafted fewer big chances (two) since Gameweek 8.

Why do people need goal threat from Ozil and yet they don't need a goal threat from others in the same kind of ilk? (Silva, Cazorla, Payet, Siggy, Cesc of last year, etc)

How many goals does that translate into over a season though? Like I remember Cesc only getting like 4 or 5 last year, he mainly relied on assists.

And Ozil is getting tons of assists these days just from open play, proving he doesn't need set pieces to keep up on the assist front.

He won't score many goals, and lack of set pieces kind of cements this fact, but his assist count is going to be huge if he keeps it up, and there's only 2 points of a difference between each goal and assist.

Whole thins is madness, I bought Ozil two weeks ago and am just keepng quiet about him while everyone continues to ignore.

Cesc only got 3 in the league last season..

For me goal threat is important and i am normally one of the guys that go on anout it but only if th player is is like 10m+ and needs to be a captain choice at the price. No one is picking Ozil for a captain option so why does he need goals?

I'm just suggesting that might be the reason that "people" treat Ozil differently to the players you mentioned, I'm not offering a view on whether it's a statistically correct viewpoint.

But set pieces aren't all about goal threat, if anything you're more likely to get an assist.

Ah ok, my bad I misunderstood 🙂

You're probably onto something there, "people" go for the lottery of a potentially bigger payout (goals from set pieces) instead of going for the consistency of assists.

I presume you mean Sanchez as Ozil is vastly outperforming Cazorla, Ramsey, Ox, Walcott etc.

And that only justifies a double up on Sanchez + Ozil.

        Personally thinking of ditching Sanchez

Yeah i particularly mean sanchez..though last season rambo has goal threat too..and a nailed on walcott will be exciting to own too

Guess many dont like to double up and so they prefer sanchez over ozil

I need goal threat from all my mids.

Last year I did Fabs -> Hazard around October time because the shooting just wasn't there. Cazorla has penos which is a 3-5 goals a season alone which is why I prefer him over Ozil but own neither. I don't own Payet, got shot of Siggy around October last year too, Silva I took when Aguero and Dzeko were out last term and he was playing as a forward but then dumped again.

But he's also doing at a ridiculously unsustainable rate. Yes he's a great player but this is a 3 assists a season rate at which he's at which is just nutty.

Why do you need goal threat from all of your mids though? It may make them slightly more explosive (you'd get 4 more points for 2 goals over 2 assists) and it may have an effect on the BAPS, but would you rather have someone who gets (10 goals, 5 assists) and finishes on 150 points, or someone who gets (20 assists, 3 goals) and finishes on 200 points?

    Team atm is -
    De Gea - (Schmeichel)
Fonte - Nyom - Francis (Bellerin - Burke)
    Sanchez - KDB - Mahrez - Mane - (Payet)
    Pelle - Lukaku - Vardy

If Fonte is indeed out, who should I draft in that is likely to get a CS? Wollscheid vs Chelsea a dumb idea?

Has to be based on the only case of a great attack against a weak defence...Manchester City v Villa. Currently on Bony as a differential captain....KDB a good option too.

Fair enough. Bony was great against Norwich, unlucky not to get anything.

I'm gonna go Mahrez, a bit of a gut feeling but the fact he has only blanked once when playing over half of a game swings it for me. Great fixture too.

Someone made a good point on that article that the strengths aren't divided into home and away (would make a good addition to the article imo)

Man City have scored 7 of their 26 goals away from home this season.
Aston Villa have conceded 7 of their 20 goals at home this season.

Yeah, just realised. He used the adjective 'great' when he meant 'very strong'... 😉

City have scored more than Southampton but Sunderland have conceded more than Villa, so I think both are viable examples.

I agree. In fact, checking the goal stats it's very similar indeed:

Sunderland conceded 7 in 5 at home
Southampton scored 6 in 5 away

Which 3 to play out of these:

Moreno (CRP) - Jones (WBA) - Alderweireld (ars) - Ward (liv) - Williams (nor)

Considering taking a hit for Alder > Rojo or Williams > Bertrand (0.3 to spend with Aguero-money in the bank).

    Thoughts?

How's my team looking atm for this GW?
    de Gea,Schwarzer
    VvD,Alderweireld,Moreno,Dawson,Targett
    Sanchez,KdB,Payet,Sterling,Drinkwater
    Lukaku,Ighalo,Vardy

I reckon i will make the following transfers next GW:
Schwarzer->Hennessey(have to do it as i have three leicester players and cannot bring in mahrez)
    Sterling->Mahrez
That would leave me with 01.-0.2 short for doing Lukaku to Aguero for the week after that.

No Attacking point because with the absence of Silva and Kun, City tends to contain the ball in MID, no fast counter attack. That's why Kolo is not going forward too often.
Then, by missing a penalty, it comes to luck somehow.

    Ozil for Mane – GW14

Shouldnt: NLD, could swing either way. Can explode as a team let alone a player.
Should: Leicester love goals. against watford at home.

See if Kane plays tonight, first.

      Please play Kane
Arsenal has recently been demoralized by Munich lost. Defence has to be losing confidence
Albrighton's alright, but just go for Harry!

Kane proved fixture proof last season. Got some form. Simples.

I'd definitely play Kane, no Bellerin or Koscielny for Arsenal weakens them hugely, and NLD often has a lot of goals.

Same dilemma with Kane/Ayew (see below)

He has been lucky. Won't do anything against rock solid Gunners defence.

Any chance of Begovic being dropped?
He had a shocker last night and hasn't impressed since coming in for Courtois.

(I actually had to go and look up what their other keepers are called). Begovic stays but as soon as Courtois is back he'll be out

Yes, he's my captain this week.
Striker for the league leaders against a demoralized Villa.
Should get in the points somewhere along the line.

    Who to play?
1 Ayew away to Norwich (Russell Martin out)
2 Kane away to Arsenal (One of the tightest defences in EPL)
    Cheers M`dears

Still undecided. Having benched Mahrez last week I think it could make or break my game week this one.

A few good home games coming up for West Ham and perhaps some more crossing from Cresswell with Carroll to aim at?

I have Cresswell benched at the moment, looking to ship him out for Moreno or someone else cheaper than 5.5...

Not seeing much love for Bony here, but he's going to be my captain this GW. A good differential to have.

My draft league team. I wanted some United cover. Jones and Herrera are available. Either one worth a move?

    Begovic
    Bellerin Clyne Kolarov
    Pedro Ozil Payet Montero Drinkwater
    Pelle Ayoze
    Bench: Myhill Aguero Mariappa Walker

    Mahrez Sánchez KDB Mané (Westwood*)
    Pellè Bony Vardy
