    The case for avoiding Aguero when he returns....

    With all the planning to bring him back in straight away (myself included), I got to thinking, is he really worth it, at least in the short term?

    Let's assume he doesn't return immediately after the International Break for LIV, which seems likely, that gives him the following run of fixtures through the busy xmas schedule. More on the 'busy' bit later on:

    SOT, sto, SWA, ars, SUN, lei, wat

    So ok, but not great fixtures, imo.

    A major argument for having Aguero first and foremost is captaincy, but how many of these fixtures would you give him the armband? Looking at other viable options over this 7 GW spell there's an argument to only captain him for 1-2 of them. Alternatives below (based on players who are currently viable to own, i.e. I've discounted CHE assets for the time being, however that could well change):

    GW14: Sanchez (nor)
    GW15: Sanchez (SUN)
    GW16: Kane (NEW)
    GW17: Lukaku (LEI)
    GW18: Kane (NOR)
    GW19: Sanchez (BOU)
    GW20: Sanchez (NEW)

    And then there's the fact that Aguero is coming back from a a lengthy ish spell on the sidelines right before 7 league games, 2 CL games and a capital one game in a month. That's 10 games in 30 days, or 1 every 3 days. I think it's almost certain that Aguero is rested for 1-2 of the 7 league games and the capital one cup during this run. And the best of the league games (SUN) is sandwiched between 3 tricky PL games - away at ARS, LEI and WAT in the space of 12 days. Will Aguero really play all 4? With those hamstrings?

    Don't get me wrong, I'm a massive Aguero fan, but I'm starting to think it might be a better option to hold off bringing him back until the new year....

        Yeah, they are through, but you'd expect they will want to go for top spot so I think he'll play one of them. That being said, even if he is benched for both CL games and the C1C, that's still 7 PL games in a month, or 1 every 4 days. I reckon he'll get rested for at least 1, especially now that Bony is up to speed (sort of). And the most likely one for resting looks like being SUN, imo.

        I just wonder if something like Lukaku, Kane & 1m change is a better option than say Kun & Ighalo over the xmas period.

      Maybe its not all about him.
      Pellegrini also said rotation is going to be very important once the fixtures bundle up..

      Good points and all but that's the beauty about Aguero, you can be confident captaining him in any week. He's fixture proof.

      That said, he might take a little while to get going after his injury

        Well, perhaps not.... 🙂 The NEW game aside he registered 1, 6, 2, 2, 1, 5, 2.

        Budget aside he's a must have. But for 13m I'm not convinced whilst the fixtures are piled up and he's coming off an injury.

          Yeah but I'm talking his whole FPL history, e.g. previous seasons. He was very unlucky in that stretch of games, had tons of chances just wasn't putting them away.

          Just look at Sanchez, he was doing the same then he exploded twice in a row and now everybody has him and nobody is considering getting rid

          I had him for HUL 0 (attacking returns capt), sto (2 gls not capt), NEW (1 gl 1 assist capt), liv (1 assist), LEI 0 (when LEI were terrible and bottom by a mile and captain), bur 0 (capt), WBA 0 (capt), cpa 0 (capt).

          That was an 8 game stretch, 6 as my captain and only 1 where he scored any points. Very similar to what he did at the start of this season.

          Ps just to be fair he did go on to score mun 2,WHM 1,AVL 1,tot 1, QPR 3+1 assist, swa 0+1 assist, SOU 1 in the next 6 games.

          All I am saying is while he is capable of the latter 6 gws the returns of the first 8 gws of this season were not so much of an anomaly also.

          Looking at that last 6 gws does make it very scary to go without him though eh 😮

      I beg to differ. Aguero against Swansea in GW16 will be the best return since his injury as Swansea looks really terrible. Southampton isn't great when they are away, so GW14 is pretty good for City at home. Also, City is an attacking team, and GW18 is also where they are home to face Sunderland. GW19 against Leicester. GW20 against Watford. Goal fest.

      Like those who said above, Aguero is fixture proof. He is not Rooney who blanks.

      Trust me ..there is enough of "is aguero worth it "talk every season...bad fixtures and all but once he gets playing 90 mins regularly you just got to get him..there isn't a more obvious captain choice each week once you own him whoever the opponent might be

      A word I think explains this season - 'underestimate'. Whoever people underestimates does well. Teams and therefore fpl managers did that with leicester. They are doing it with Lukaku too. When aguero gets back, most teams won't be that scared of him and he'll score big

      I got 4.9m laying around ITB so for me it's a definate: He's coming in.

      I'm not into the whole great front eight thing, so I never upgraded Westwood. And it has shot me up the ranks recently. Therefore, after I did Darmian to Moreno, I have this massive pile of cash just sitting there not doing anything. If I were to avoid Aguero, I'd like to spend it somewhere, but theres no massive upgrade I wanna do, so I'd have to take lots of hits to spread it around in defence and getting Özil in etc. Also, Pelle is a massive donk away from home, and after AVL in GW15 he has no easy home games for the rest of the year.

      So for me it's easy. Not bringing him in straight away for GW13 even if confirmed fit. But a GW14 transfer from Pelle to Aguero seems obvious when they face eachother at the Etihad. And with my amount of cash it's a direct transfer aswell - no hits or other downgrades needed.

      SOU fixtures v MCI fixtures from GW14:

      Great points and definitely food for thought, thank you for articulating.

      Personally I agree with all you have said and I would love to hold off getting him.

      Unfortunately however the issue I often find is afordability, finding £13m for Kun is hard enough as it is however as soon as that flag comes off him the herds will start buying and if you don't get him early you will end up paying £0.1, £0.2m, £0.3m maybe more than everybody else as he shoots up as soon as he becomes available again regardless of form.

      Inevitably I expect I will find myself caving in and buying as soon as that first price rise becomes imminent.

      I've sat on most of the Aguero cash since he's been out.
      Probably have a template front 7 but by investing a bit more in defence I've jumped about 120k into the top 20k since he's been out. And there's certainly room for further improvement in defence and one mid.
      It's the realistic price differential between Aguero & Kane/Pelle/Lukaku/ maybe a fit Benteke that I struggle with. 4-4.5 million. That's a lot of money that could really make a difference to a squad.
      Also Xmas is coming up and a lot of the big sides are already rotating and a stronger bench could easily become a useful differential in itself.
      Aguero's had a 1 huge return this season and that's about all. Not really likely to score 5 in a game again.
      I'm hoping we'll see a few articles & stats etc. from the various "experts" that balance this argument out over the next week.

        BUT, although I agree with you that we certainly won't see a 5 goal haul again, we're also not likely to see a five-match-streak without goals. It's likely to be balanced out IMO. No more 5G hauls, but more of 1 goal a game and braces.

      Worth bearing n mind that it's not Aguero alone who is likely to be rotated over Christmas - VERY few players play every game of the festive period. It's probably the best time to have a strong front 8. Haven't decided what I'm going to do about Aguero yet, I'm just operating on the basis he isn't available and I'll worry about it once he is 🙂

      Perfectly reasonably argument imo Jinswick.

      I was hoping nobody would highlight this as my plan is Pelle to Kane for gw16 and go with Pelle, Kane, Igahlo for the Xmas period spurs most difficult fixtures from then to gw25 being sou, wat, eve, cpa. That is 10 fixtures with those 4 being far from unscoreable.

      During this period of fixtures the only two you might not want to have Sanchez capt for are gw17 MCI (when spurs play sou) lukaku has LEI so ok and gw 23 CHE (when spurs play cpa) when lukaku has SWA so it would prob be a toss up between Sanchez, Lukaku or Kane

      There is no denying that Kun is the best captain material in the game when on form but unless you are going to captain him almost every game week then he will prove poor value imo. I had him perma cap towards the end of last season when a lot of peeps were captaining Kane and others and it absolutely killed my season as he blanked in so many scoreable games.

      Those are actually great fixtures for captaining a player like Aguero who plays for a team like City. I'd be confident in capping him for at least 5 of those games.

      Also, the captaincy options consist of capping Sanchez 4 times, the fixtures do look good for Alexis, but he hasn't really turned up with goals this season and I think comparatively, I'd be more tempted to cap Aguero.

      You can say Aguero doesn't have the form this season too, but the fact that he scores more than 20 goals every season, is on penalties and the main man of the club that scores the most goals in the league. And of course, those 4-goal and 5-goal hauls. Not saying he will repeat the feat, but how can we be sure he won't? 😉

      He is in the moment he gets his first start in my team.

      I saw it but wasn't involved at all. But the denial seems strange, the evidence suggested that what was claimed was in fact correct. Would have been better to just laugh it off, or make no response at all.

      Agree that it was quite harsh and unnecessary from the poster in question. However, the action being brought up was quite odd, especially when the Aqua denied it...

      Aqua markets himself as some sort of "elite" FPL player, and is just a little bit up himself. So, when he's just copying the actions of another FPL player this season, I mean, it seems quite ridiculous, imo.

      If my memory serves me correctly, he's criticised Trigger on multiple occasions, so there's that too...

      Perhaps if brought up and discussed in a more civil manner, we could've ended up with a much better situation with everyone fully understanding whats going on. 🙂

        I couldn't give a stuff how anyone picks their team. I'm pretty sure most of us take a look at the top players and who is in their team. If they pick a player who they saw was in someone else's team, good on them.

      Again the same old argument. It is actually better to have a scorer on the squad who is benched rather than just Wanyama always on the bench with 2 points and the occasional YC.
      A scorer on the bench earns you money by price rises. This strategy is valid till Aguero gets fit and you want him. If you are willing to let Aguero out till he picks up form, (a dangerous tactic) then you should get great 5 mids and great defenders even. LOTS of price rises.

          Exactly, that is the plan, then swap to a cheap mid when you need Aguero. With all the cheap mids scoring points, you do not need to max out your budget.

          Last winter I had built a good team value by Xmas and went for heavy hitters in my January WC, went badly as cheap mids and strikers of my rivals' teams went on scoring.

        Multiple the "teams selected by" figure for each of your players and you'll get a rough idea. I did it a while back with a fairly template team and the answer was something like 15 - the number not a percentage.

        Ibet there are hundreds of people who make their transfers based on aspects of fantasy scout, be it what Mark says or what the ticker says or the scout picks. Many ppick their entire GW1 team on the scoutpicks for that week

          This. Some people seem to ask the community here to pick every aspect of their team. I don't mean those who are torn between two courses of action and ask for a second opinion, but those who ask who to transfer, then who to pick then who to captain etc.

        the actual "offence" is such a non issue. The real problem is people's constant need for attention and approval, debates on here should be bout fantasy football (with the odd cultural debate thrown in). Constant bullying and sniping from certain individuals is a real turn off
