If Leicester somehow manage to drop out of UCL and EL spots .What do you think will they retain mahrez and vardy's services .Vardy could be kept with a big fat check but mahrez he is young .
If they qualify for Europe it will be more interesting if they they Decide MTO cash out on the players.

I would think the reverse. The club do have rich owners so they do not need the money hugely.

If they qualify Europe, both will stay. If not, Vardy could be gone in the summer.

The owners are ambitious in a modest way but, as you say, they are more likely to have to sell Mahrez. He will have the big boys sniffing around. Players like him who score occasional goals and perhaps more importantly, can unlock very tight defences for others to score, will attract a large premium.

Not sure how, but I've ended up with a front 8 where my.only 2 benchable players are Tadic and Sterling. Who to bench this week then? Both seem a slight rotation risk and both out of form but I'm not taking a -4

Not sure it is that straightforward. Feel sterling could easily be dropped v arsenal

Tadic v likely to get his place back at home and could be eager to prove himself after being dropped

I would prefer to go with the team with stronger attacking potential so City for sure. But if you reckon there's risk of Sterling being dropped then perhaps Tadic safer pick.

Wouldn't trust me this season 🙂

In last year's 28th/29th December fixtures, the following players were rotated, having started the previous game on the 26th Dec.

Arsenal - Gibbs, Rosicky, (Giroud was ineligible after a red card on 26th)
    Aston Villa - Okore, Agbonlahor
    Chelsea - Azpilicueta, Oscar, Willian
    Crystal Palace - Campbell
Everton - Howard, Stones, Jagielka, Mirallas, Naismith, Barkley, Lukaku
    Leicester - King, Drinkwater
Liverpool - Jones, Toure, Gerrard, Markovic
Man City - Clichy, Sagna, (Yaya Toure injured during game on 26th)
    Man Utd -
    Newcastle - Taylor, Anita, Armstrong
Southampton - Clyne, Gardos, Bertrand, Ward-Prowse
    Stoke City - Walters
Sunderland - Coates, Cattermole, Alvarez, Fletcher
    Swansea - Rangel, Ki, Montero
Tottenham - Walker, Rose, Bentaleb, Lamela
West Brom - Pocognoli, Mulumbu, Varela, Berahino
West Ham - Jenkinson, Collins, Nolan, Noble, Valencia

Promoted sides N/A as 5 day break between matches.

Average number of players rotated - 2.94
Most number of players rotated - 7 (Everton)
Least number of players rotated - 0 (Man Utd)

% of total players rotated by position
    GK - 3.92% (2/51)
    Def - 37.25% (19/51)
    Mid - 41.18% (21/51)
    Att - 17.65 (9/51)

A decent 5th midfielder and playing defenders look key.

Top stuff, I just want to add this so people can see which teams have the short turnarounds:

      https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14CldK7TlmOWaC1vo0s8-nhTvnj9h07ruaZY_IBgbKWY/pubhtml

Last year only Liverpool vs Swansea was on the 29th with that precious extra days turnaround but it seems they both got rotated anyway.

Another important point to note is that the following teams have all changed their managers since this time last year, leaving their policies open to more uncertainty:

      Aston Villa
      Crystal Palace
      Leicester
      Liverpool
      Newcastle
      Sunderland
      Swansea
      West Brom

Cheers Balders. The only certainty is that there will be added rotation and you have to try and mitigate as best you can during this period. For me that means staying away from the recently injured players, not taking vanity hits on fit players and keeping an eye on Everton in particular (given it is the same manager)

Not right now, I'll watch this week's game and reconsider, plus we all knew that Barkley gets the majority of his shots from out of the box anyway, playing deeper shouldn't jeopardise those shots too much

No you don't get points for both GW's. As Poison Apple said, a Game Week is a Game Week. You only points for two matches when those two matches fall under the same GW (Called a Double Game Week DGW) - this happens when teams have to catch up with fixtures lost through bad weather or cup replays - normally start seeing DGWs around February

How long do you give a player before you decide to transfer him out?

What factors do you consider about a player that has lost form?

Do you use underlying stats like touches in the box or do you simply take a look at forthcoming fixtures?

It depends on the circumstances in which I got him, the other options at that position, how much value I have invested in him, other priorities, and whether I have someone that can cover. For example I have Barkley right now and while he hasn't done much in the past 3 or so GWs, I got him before the bandwagon started, he's given me some decent returns, I have a strong front 8 anyway, I can't see any substantial improvement available, and I needed to get rid of Richards this week.

      1. Jafalad
        • 15 Years
        10 years, 5 days ago

So you are looking to make equity on a player regardless of form?

        1. Jacques The Lad
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 5 days ago

Not necessarily that just one consideration, If someone like Sanchez was firing (or if anyone was to that degree) then I wouldnt hesitate to lose Barkley even if I would lose quite a bit of TV. Its more a matter of his form isn't poor enough for me to get rid of him yet in light of these mitigating factors. If I didn't have a strong 5th mid I'd probably get rid

          1. Jafalad
            • 15 Years
            10 years, 5 days ago

Fair point. So how many games do you give a player before he is deemed "lost form?"

            1. Jacques The Lad
              • 11 Years
              10 years, 5 days ago

I don't think there's a defined number, it's a continuum based on the factors I listed above. Really there's also a gut instinct aspect as well, if you don't think that player should be in your team then you need to get rid haha. It's like investing, ultimately judge the inherent worth of a company cannot be done just by applying criteria, there's a skill to just knowing when the information is in front of you (I'm not claiming to be good at it myself btw)

Just interested to know. I see some are considering losing Kane and Barclay after 2-3 non-scoring games. I don't believe that's enough time to make a decision on a player about form.

Aguero next week probably, but Christmas rotation is a worry. I have hazard, so need to decide on Henderson or Ramsey for him this week. henderson more of a rotation risk than Ramsey given the injury situation at arsenal.
