Boxing Day is now behind us so it’s time to see how my selection of Fantasy Premier League veterans fared this time around. Just to remind you my group of FPL stalwarts is made up of 34 teams, consisting of those who are leading or have been leading Fantasy Football Scout’s Hall of Fame as well as the Moderators & Contributors League.

A keen Manchester City fixture against Sunderland and the veterans’ belief in players who performed well in previous seasons made Sergio Aguero the most popular transfer target this week. Form drove their decision to bring in Spurs man Delle Alli in second place is related to Kun. It only partially worked out with Aguero failing to play but Alli did at least bring in an assist.
CAPTAINS
– Harry Kane (TOT): 52.94%
– Riyad Mahrez (LEI): 17.65%
– Sergio Aguero (MCI): 14.71%
– Romelu Lukaku (EVE): 8.82%
If we take a look at last week’s article, we’ll se that, almost every manager among the veterans (91.18%) captained Romelu Lukaku. Everton had a solid fixture this gameweek, against Newcastle away, and, 30% of the managers in TOP 10K also captained Lukaku this week. He was the most popular captaincy choice in the TOP 10K (30.00%), and overall too (15.2%). But when we look at the veterans teams, he is the fourth most popular pick, with just 8.82%. He failed to deliever yesteray, so this is one of the reasons for many green arrows amongst the veterans following Gameweek 18.
Another key factor was the large proportion who captained two goal hero Harry Kane. In last week article, we pointed out his huge ownership among the veterans, and, not so huge among the managers in the TOP 10K. His brace against Norwich helped the veterans to climb overall, and, if we look at the captaincy stats, only 9.4% managers in TOP 10K decied to captained him.

OVERALL RANKINGS
For the first time, since I started to write this articles, we have a progress for the veterans as their long march back to respectability continues. After Gameweek 17, only three managers had a green arrow, and now, after Gameweek 18, only two had a red. After Gameweek 17, the average overall position of all 34 veteran teams was 244,833, but now, their overall position is 160,164 – an impressive 84,669 places better than last week. In addition, the veterans average Gameweek 18 score was 66 points. If we compare that with average score overall (44 points) and average score for TOP10K (46 points) the conclusion is that this was a great Gameweek for the veterans.

I would like to thank Jonty for the help and support. Without his edits (and with my bad English) these series of articles would never been published.
