Fiffsa 5-a-side World Cup Qualifying Week 6

Gameweek 5 of the FIFFSA 5-a-side tournament saw our first confirmed qualifications and exits. However, for the vast majority of the teams, there is everything still left to play for.

We would like to remind everyone of the deadline for submitting in your substitutes. This week, it will be 23:00 GMT on Monday, Jan 11th. We are still receiving some emails after this time and those teams had their 6th player benched as stated in the article. Please email as early as possible as we have limited time to organise the team spreadsheets and update the score centre during Monday night/Tuesday.

Any teamsheets sent to us after 2300 GMT will not be accepted and your 6th player will be benched. No Exceptions!

Gameweek 5 Review

The average team score for this week was 340 points  and as with previous rounds there were some close ties. In particular, the ties between USA v Cayman Islands and Iran v Sri Lanka were decided by a single point.

The biggest win of the week was for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which defeated Russia by a massive 71 points in a match that ended 366 to 295.

With five games having being played, Tahiti remain the sole side with a 100% record and are secure for qualification. Thirteen other sides have won four of their first five matches and will expect to qualify although some still remain at risk depending on certain scenarios. In contrast, UAE and Ivory Coast, still maintain a 100% record of losing. Qualification may no longer be possible but I’m sure they will be looking to avoid a whitewash over the next two games.

The luckiest team award goes to France, who scraped a win with only 324 points (16 points below average).

The unluckiest team award goes to the Cayman Islands, who lost their tie against the USA despite scoring 357 points (17 points above average). This would have been enough to win all but 10 ties this week.

The worst benching decision goes to Iceland who benched Gilli Gold who scored 88 its, although it didn’t matter with Iceland edging out the Republic of Ireland.

The presser award for Gameweek 5 goes to Il Consiglieri Wasabi 196 of San Marino for getting the tournament into the christmas spirit. Keep the pressers up! There are so many excellent contributors which have yet to win awards. If you haven’t submitted one before why not submit one this week?

Gameweek 6 Preview

There are lots of exciting ties coming up this week and some teams should be able to secure their spots in the first round proper of the tournament.

A top of the table clash in AFC group B finds New Caledonia taking on Singapore. Both sides are level on 12 points at the top of the table along with Australia and will be crucial in deciding who tops this group. The winner will guarantee qualification while the loser may need a result in the final game depending on other results.

In the CAF group, four teams are currently on 12 points. Two of these, Zambia and Djibouti go head to head, again, the loser of the tie will then need a win in the final game to secure qualification.

A more detailed summary of this can be found on the player history tab which includes the rank history of every player in the tournament at our team sheets and tables spreadsheet.

Further Information

A quick reminder of the format. Each gameweek, teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each teams’ gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for. This week’s games can be found here.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 2300 (GMT) of Monday, Jan 11th otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the kick-off on Tuesday evening at our score centre spreadsheet.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

Enjoy the tournament; this is the FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup. Accept no imitations.

As a final request, please do try and keep FIFFSA 5-A-Side chat to the comment sections of our articles.

Scotland has been around longer than Italy. As a country their still only in the adolescent phase. To give them some credit, they invented trousers. Have those things caught on yet in your part of the UK?

yeah, you are right i think. Was basing it on Zimbabwe having a strong points score, if they win their two remaining games then you would expect that to improve and likely sneak through. Will be tight anyway.

I have had a feeling Zimbabwe would be dark horses since we very narrowly beat them. They are a strong side. Either us or Zambia are the ones who need to watch out imo and we play each other in the final match. So one of us is going to lose then. Zimbabwe it is in your hands!

The chances are slim, but slim is enough
As Canada can still conquer, when the going gets tough
We got our first snowfall, that must be a sign!
That we could still make it, with a points tally of nine.

There was lots of talk about the fifth game of the tournament
where many spectators gathered, hanging from trees like ornaments.
We continued to disappoint, with yet another loss vs. the Mexicans.
We are overdue a huge haul, so watch out you Americans.

FIFFSA's most amazing comeback must be each of our fates
We will throw more than the kitchen sink at the United States
So that not even the filosofee could stop this team from the West
As we will definitely show up, at more than our best!

Happy New Year from North Korea.

      ____________________________________________________________-

After the successful testing of our Happy Bomb over the Christmas period we North Koreans are in jubilant mood entering the year 2015. The Western puppets in the south of our land seem a little perturbed by our success though, as they have been bombarding our country with unsanitary pop music ever since over huge industrial speaker systems. Most people here are not too bothered really except when they started playing the Bee Gees, which can only be deemed as an egregious act of war.

We demand our right to a Happy Bomb. If Israel can illegally have Happy Bombs with a nudge and a wink, who are you in the West to deny our peaceful country Happy Bombs. We all need Happy Bombs. You only seem to respect the countries with Happy Bombs. So now we have Happy Bombs you can go and mind your own delusional nefarious dirty business. But please, we beg of you....... Stop playing the Bloody Bee Gees!

In other news our glorious football team take on another Western puppet state Indonesia this week, so we can relax and send out our B team as we continue our ongoing New Year celebrations with an illegal supply of space hoppers accrued from the Iranians and skate boards from Saudi Arabia..

Quite pleased with how this turned out in the end. I found it quite tricky to make work in the middle

      Refer to Section 4.2

FFS article here says 2300GMT(-1), but shouldn't it be 1200GMT?

Could the admins verify this? Cheers!

I think in the interest of fairness, the deadline should be the one in the original rules so 12pm on Tuesday. Otherwise it opens up a major can of worms for teams who might have read the original rules but not necessarily this article.

Please note the time for submitting your bench player is 1200 on Tuesday 12th of January. Not 2300 on the 11th of January as it states on the article.

If a mod sees this could they please hulk it.

      Thanks

I've just heard the president of the Tanzanian FA is appealing to the players to turn up to training after he invested so much in new facilities for them: http://imgur.com/BCncPba

@Babyb or someone else in the FIFFSA 5-a-side tournament board:
I (C) of Bosnia have made a mistake in the selection of representatives of Bosnia team in the e-mail sent to you. I sent you another e-mail with the explanation so if you can confirm in any way that you will take this into consideration that would be great.

outside some dark pub in the middle of possilpark.
a 64 plate BMW pulls up. out steps a a well dressed gentleman to be welcomed in traditional glesgi style by the wee guy with the adidas two stripe tracksuit " watch yir motor mister?"
"no you are ok son, my Alsatian in the back will make sure nobody steals it"
" and can it pit oot fires this dug?"
a contract is then agreed of £2 the noo and £2 later.
the journalist enters the scarily authentic 70's themed pub.
JTD lies slumped in a corner , his head stuck to the faux leather seat by the blood red electrical tape used to patch up the seat after the last karaoke session when big mags won the 1st prize of a 1kg bag of frozen chips.
"excuse me.....excuse me.....I am here for the interview" said the herald journalist
JTD peels himself off the chair, leaving a clump of fur behind. "whit, inter whit, inter yir maw ya bas? o fur fooks sake, awright ask me somein."
journalist- "ok so far you have had a mixed tournament of winning then losing games, would you say there is something in your training that prevents your team performing two games in a row?"
JTD- " are you sayin we ur sh*te?"
journalist- " not at all I am just asking if there is a reason behind this pattern"
JTD- "pattern? all pattern your face if say we are sh*te again" "ho fitzy this nugget says we are sh*te"
      fitzy- "haggis"
      JTD- "theres yir answer then"
      journalist- "sorry what? haggis, huh?"
JTD- "di yi want a whisky? yo senga gee us two triple whiskys, wi a whisky chaser hen"
journalist- " sorry no I cant drink I am driving"
JTD- " no without wheels yi urny"
Journalist looks out the smoke stained window to see his car has the new Michelin breeze block tyres and his dog is wearing the new Scotland strip.
Journalist- " ok can I just finish this interview". " what do you think of your next opponents?"
JTD- " I fancied her back in the day"
      journalist- "what? who?"
JTD- "her we are playing, wonderbra, hello boys. yi ken back in the 90s"
Journalist- "you are playing bosnia Herzegovina"
JTD- "aye that's her ,she was somein, hello boys, her and that evangelist wan"
journalist- "ok I think we have enough. i'll just be going"
JTD- "aye whitever, rember yi owe senga £120 for the whisky"

the journalist gets up to walk to the door when it swings open and in walks KNM
"anywan want ti buy some BMW tyres"

Frankie Boyle on the most Scottish thing he'd ever seen:

"I was going through a town called Bathgate at around 11 o'clock at night. And there was a guy leaning and p*ssing against a front door.

He then took out his keys and went inside."
