Our usual Saturday morning scour for overlooked Fantasy options brings a couple of midweek two-goal heroes into consideration. We also place out faith in City’s twinkle-toed playmaker as the Etihad side entertain out-of-sorts Palace later this afternoon.

Olivier Giroud

Despite failing to cement a starting berth until the tenth Gameweek of the season, Olivier Giroud (9.2) sits three goals shy of the league’s joint-top scorers (Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy – 15 goals), having bagged his first brace of the campaign at Anfield. Although that performance harvested his first score in excess of eight points, the Frenchman has displayed laudable consistency, registering nine goals, two assists and just three blanks since Gameweek 9.

Poring over the underlying statistics across the previous four Gameweeks, Giroud ranks top among forwards for attempts (15), top for shots inside the box (14) and joint-top for penalty-box touches (36). With a trip to Stoke City next on the Gunners’ agenda, it’s also worth noting that the ex-Montpellier recruit has amassed the joint-third-most shots on target (12) in road clashes – even though he was afforded cameo roles in four of Arsenal’s opening five away fixtures.

The Britannia Stadium hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Arsenal in recent years (three losses, two draws), yet the North Londoners chart second for goals scored (21), second for attempts (162), top for shots inside the box (121), top for big chances (29) and top for shots on target (57) in away match-ups, which bodes well for their attacking prospects against Mark Hughes’ charges.

David Silva

Even by his own admission, David Silva (10.0) has struggled to rediscover his groove since returning from an ankle injury, carding a solitary assist in seven Gameweeks. The Spain international was a notable omission from Manchester City’s starting line-up against Everton on Wednesday, but this was hardly a surprise, given that Manuel Pellegrini alluded to monitoring Silva’s minutes earlier in the week. Regardless, the Sky Blues missed the playmaker’s invention against the Toffees so will be keen to reinstate him for Crystal Palace’s visit.

Notwithstanding his limited attacking output of late, the 5%-owned Silva ranked joint-third for key passes (12) – behind Kevin De Bruyne and Mesut Ozil (both 18) – between Gameweeks 17 and 20, underlining his rich capacity for assists. Indeed, the former Valencia player demonstrated his class with six assists in five outings at the start of the campaign.

Regardless of their blank against the Merseysiders, Man City have been the league’s most dominant attacking force on home turf, racking up six more goals (29) than second-best, Everton (23). Moreover, no side has chalked up as many attempts (204) and shots on target (78), so they’ll fancy their chances of breaching the Eagles’ rearguard as they look to get their title tilt back on track.

Roberto Firmino

Banishing a run of seven matches without a goal, Roberto Firmino (7.7) snagged a quick-fire brace against Arsenal, propelling himself back onto our radar. The Brazilian’s head-turning performance against Manchester City in Gameweek 14 – which yielded one goal and two assists – proved to be a false dawn, yet his recent statistics augur his development into a viable mid-priced asset.

Over the last four Gameweeks, Firmino ranks joint-fourth for attempts (12), joint-fourth for shots inside the box (eight) and joint-fourth for shots on target (five) among midfielders. In addition, only three of his counterparts posted more key passes (12) during that time frame, illuminating his dual threat from a Fantasy perspective.

Considering that Firmino’s attacking returns have arrived against Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and Leicester City, one could argue that he relishes the challenge of his raising his game against sterner opposition. As such, the stage is set for Firmino to come up trumps when the Reds play host to one of their fiercest rivals, Manchester United. Certainly, Liverpool will be boosted by the fact that the Red Devils are winless in four away ties and shipped seven goals in their last three on the road.

        Alli, absolutely.
Because Sunderland is the most conceding goals on trips (30 times or 2,73/game).

        Why not Kane?
Because Sunderland's defenders are lack of pace and too rigid, thus always struggle with the number ten (attacking central midfielder or inside winger) who runs from deep into the box. KDB (16pts), Willian (10pts), Ramsey (13pts), Kone (20pts) and Deulofeu (14pts), Mata (14pts), Ritchie (8pts), Sinclair (14pts), Mahrez (15pts) and Albrighton (15pts) had prove that when they againt Sunderland at their home.

        Cheers! 😀

I think you're right. Assists and or penalty goals, maybe. Kane's off the ball movement was so great, diagonally drifting, created spaces for his teammates, especially for Alli who is often do penetrating runs 😉

Not this week. Thinking kdb to Payet next week. Kdb has been v poor away , even in the easy away games. With two away games (Gwk 23-24) that looks a perfect time. I sold him for what he costs now so can handle another price rise or two.

      Payet because....

He is amazing, as soon as he came back and played a few minutes against Pool it was clear he was gonna get straight back in the mix. So a few of us brought him in and captained him last week. obviously he is a very popular transfer this week, but for those who captain him, he will be even better!

Kane for me but as the deadline approaches I'm feeling somewhat uneasy about it. Its more of a damage limitation captain choice than a dead cert.

Aguero could score 1 or more easy but on recent displays he's not shown enough to captain him this week over Kane playing Sunderland at home.

But if Kane blanks its going to be horrible watching the goals come in at 3PM.

      1. Biancazzurri
        • 14 Years

Aguero doesn't play that well (or gets his chances) when the opposing team park their bus. It'll be a Yaya type of game.

        Still captaining Kun though.

kane as most in my m/lhave him, so sure he will be their cap choice, aguero will still be a good differential for me as only a couple have him, still tempting to do kun, after all thats what most of us brought him in for !

      1. Biancazzurri
        • 14 Years
        10 years, 7 months ago

It's a good argument: Kane (C) - he blanks / Aguero scores - most of our rivals fail, we - less so. Aguero (C) - he blanks / Kane scores, most of our rivals win, we fail miserably.

= Kane is the safe choice.

But since we, the owners of both, are undecided about captaincy it's because there's a great chance both will score. So does it really THAT matter who we pick as a captain?

What's up with Targett playing in midfield? Was it a temporary thing to fill in for Tadic or is it a permanent prospect, cuz he did play fantastic from what I've heard for a 3.7 defender?

    Play one?

A: Lukaku .. Away to old club. Being a focal point and on pen.

B: Ozil .. Away to Stoke who did well against big teams in this season. On set-piece and being assist King.

    AM I GTG;

    Cech
    Toby - Cresswell - VVD
    Alli - Mahrez - Payet - Ozil - KDB
    Vardy - Kane(c)

    Bench - Lukaku-Dawson-Targett

Is it ok to bench Lukaku? Nobody seem convinced by a Chelsea's CS. If Everton gonna score, it's more than 50% that the scorer gonna be Lukaku..

Big dilemma! Do I keep him on the bench or do I swap for Ozil or Alli or KDB?

Had to bench one of Ozil, Lukaku, KDB or Alli..
Now it gonna be KDB.. Don't feel confident leaving Lukaku on the bench..
KDB has had low outcome the last 3 matches anyway, he might indeed need a rest

    2. HammersFan
      • 10 Years

I dont see how, he had a rest not to long ago. Hes by far there best mid over Sterling/Navas/Silva. Was taken off after 75 last game so should be fit.

If he gets another rest, definitely out of my team, to much money for someone that doesnt play every 3-4 games

      1. El-Kloppico

Pelle gotta manage the young lads.. Sterling/Naves have been benched regularly, so more fresh.. KDB has even featured in CapitalOne cup match.. indeed need a rest

Silva is by far the mid. It's funny how soon people forget that he has been the standout playmaker in the league for four years.

It's not just about a rest in terms of tiredness, obviously they blanked last game and silva was on the bench so kdb could be benched just to shake up the team a little
