There’s plenty for us to ponder this Monday evening as we assess the lessons learned over the weekend’s ten fixtures. Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane have the form to punish any potential sellers with one eye on the double Gameweeks, City’s malaise shows no signs of ending, Everton’s lack of consistency is a real concern, whilst Arsenal’s young wide man may have played his way into wildcard consideration.

Selling Mahrez could prove costly….
It’s 16 goals and 11 assists for the season now for Leicester’s wide man after he bagged the weekend winner at Palace. Although many are looking to bring in 15 players with a pair of fixtures in time for double Gameweek 24, can we really risk selling a player that’s averaged 7.2 points per game so far? With a trip to Sunderland in Gameweek 33 and home clash against Swansea in Gameweek 35 – at a time where six sides are without a fixture – Mahrez’ current form may well retain his place in our wildcard teams as the Foxes look to cement their spot at the summit.

…and Kane looks undroppable….
The Tottenham frontman is also stepping up his output as Mauricio Pochettino’s men remain in the race for the crown. Kane’s two goals and assist against Bournemouth helped him to a 16-point haul and, allied with a double at Villa, served up back-to-back double-figure returns for the first time this term. Granted, the fixtures are hardly straightforward (liv, MUN, sto, WBA, che) but Kane’s red-hot streak is clearly making many think twice over parting company.

Everton’s inconsistency remains an issue….
With nine matches still to play in the final seven Gameweeks, Everton’s home clash against Arsenal afforded us an early opportunity to scout their main men ahead of the double Gameweeks. The Toffees failed to convince, though – a 2-0 Goodison loss was the second time in three they’ve been unable to score in front of their own fans, whilst Roberto Martinez’ men have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of the last four. Whilst Romelu Lukaku remains a key target for most, his team-mates are struggling to show they are worthy of our consideration.

Iwobi’s on the radar….
Handed a start against Barcelona in midweek, the youngster kept his place as Arsene Wenger’s side made their way to Goodison. Iwobi vindicated his manager’s decision by netting the second in a 2-0 win to strengthen his claim for a run of first-team outings from this point onwards. Priced at just 4.5 and listed as a midfielder, the teenager is bound to spark a bandwagon if he can hold off the challenge of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell for double Gameweek 34.

The Hammers lone striker role remains up for grabs….
Rewarded for his goal and assist off the bench at Everton with a first start since Gameweek 14, Diafra Sakho was unable to take his chance in West Ham’s stalemate at Stamford Bridge. Just one minute after replacing the Senegal striker, Andy Carroll was amongst the goals as Slaven Bilic’s “Plan B” immediately reaped reward against the champions. Although the Hammers’ assets will surely play a part in our wildcards as a result of their pair of doubles, the competition for minutes up front looks set to steer our attentions away from their strikers.

The Canaries are building momentum….
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for Alex Neil’s men, with a 1-0 win at West Brom helping them clamber two points clear of the drop zone. Norwich’s triumph over Tony Pulis’ men came without the likes of Nathan Redmond and Steven Naismith, with a 4-4-2 set-up proving decisive at the Hawthorns. With three vital fixtures to follow (NEW, cpl, SUN) and a double in Gameweek 35 (MUN, WAT), the Carrow Road club may yet prove an unlikely source of Fantasy returns as they look to save their top-flight status.

Mitrovic could be Rafa’s main man….
The Serbian has now started both matches since the appointment of Rafa Benitez and fired a precious equaliser at home to Sunderland to salvage a derby draw. Analysing the numbers, Mitrovic clearly looks key to their survival bid – he sits second amongst forwards for touches in the box and joint-top for efforts in the opposition box in the last two Gameweeks. Having also found the net against the likes of United, City and Spurs, the 6.2-priced striker may well prove a canny differential for those willing to gamble with their three-man frontlines.

The Saints still have plenty to play for….
A stunning 3-2 comeback win over Liverpool took the St Mary’s side to just four points off fourth spot yesterday. Granted, their lack of a double Gameweeks will ensure than few, if any, will be tempted by weekend scorers Graziano Pelle (three goals and two assists in two Gameweeks) or Sadio Mane but with their dreams of Champions League football still very much alive, the Saints clearly have the form to play a part in the run-in. Those holding Leicester defenders will be hoping the Foxes can curtail Koeman’s charges as they head to the King Power next time out.

Our Liverpool options are on the up….
With Roberto Firmino sidelined through a hamstring injury, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge served a timely reminder of their capabilities by bagging a goal apiece at Southampton. Although Firmino remains the standout option for many ahead of Liverpool’s two doubles, yesterday’s teamsheet – where Coutinho and Sturridge started for the second time in three days – also suggests that rotation may not be quite as rife as we anticipated over the run-in. With Adam Lallana now sitting on three goals and as many assists in his last six league outings, the case for looking beyond Firmino is gathering pace.

Pep’s arrival can’t come soon enough for City….
A 1-0 home reverse to United means that the Etihad side have won just three of 11 matches in all competitions since confirming the Spaniard’s summer arrival. In terms of league outings, City have played seven times and scored more than a single goal on one occasion over that period – a 4-0 thrashing of basement-dwellers Villa in Gameweek 29. With Joe Hart and Raheem Sterling adding to Manuel Pellegrini’s injury concerns, City’s worrying lack of form may well see many opt against loading up on their main men ahead of the double.

United’s defence may be the way to go….
Whilst Marcus Rashford hogged the headlines with a derby winner over City, United’s lack of impact in the final third – two goals in the last three Gameweeks – allied with the imminent return of Wayne Rooney, dents the youngster’s Fantasy prospects. Instead, yesterday’s 1-0 win earned the Red Devils a fourteenth clean sheet of the season and strengthened the case for considering their defenders in our wildcard plans. With back-to-back home clashes against Villa and Palace in Gameweek 34, the appeal of Chris Smalling and David de Gea is gaining momentum after another resilient rearguard display.

    @Balders

How did you parse the special characters on the player names. I had pulled the same data for future tinkering and thought of using find-replace in spreadsheet later.

Or is there a library that does it? Am on python.

      for the JSON data?

I'm working in R and I've just parsed it all using fromJSON() with no special tricks and it's worked with the characters fine.

Little bit of competition coming from Emenike and Carrol now though. West Ham forwards are a tricky bunch, they all keep doing just enough (or not enough) to stay off the radar, especially when their midfield is so cheap and productive.

Never benching Bellerin again, will play Payet but not a WHU defender.

I can see both Spurs and United playing very defensively in this fixture, not sold on a United defender, although would obviously play kane if i had him at that point.

Otherwise, lots of dutch courage whilst you cower behind the couch.

    Morning all.

I have this idea to play 442 next GW. After doing Siggy to Payet I will have this:

    Butland
    Bellerin Azpilicueta Fuchs PVA
    Alli Payet Ozil Mahrez
    Aguero Kane

    Hennessey Vardy Eriksen Williams

    Does that look alright?

FAir enough, I'd have him as first sub at the very least then.

Take heart from the fact for the first third (roughly) of the season the most prefered formation of the top 10k was 4-4-2, so it's not a poor choice by any means.

Ok set on this (for now)

    Kasper - Robles
    Bellerin - Gabriel - Rojo - Sakho - Simpson
    Ozil - Payet - Mahrez - Firmino - Antonio
    Kun - Lukaku - Kane

Double LEI defense seems meh but I think theyll outscore any defense other than MU/Arsenal

Gabriel and Rojo worth the risk I suppose, will play 2 out of 3 at least

Will swap Kane to Martial/Sturridge depending on form.
Or I can do that now and have Smalling instead of Rojo from now? Can always play Antonio (CPL ARS) in the next two too.

Anyone care to pick Arsenal players for my WC DGW 33? I'm chasing so wouldn't mind a differential but everyone seems so expensive.

Also is it a good idea to get 3 gunners and then offload two in DGW 37 for two DGW players as Arsenal have City away?

Alexis, Ozil, and one of Bellerin/Gabriel (depending on which one you can afford).

thank you for the villa heads up, didn't even spot that.

I have a poor TV/SV so not sure if i can afford Ozil & Sanchez if I keep Kun. Decisions to be made. You think Ozil and Sanchez are a must or would 2 Arsenal DF's work with one of them>?

My TV/SV is poor too. Arsenal has only the league to play for, and their schedule is WAT whu CPL WBA sun NOR mci AVL. Could see lots of goals and clean sheets during that time, so I guess double defense or midfield could work (also depending on if getting Sanchez ruins your team).

I was being a little facetious with that comment of course but I've just had another look at his stats. Since Christmas. his strike rate is actually nearly 70% and he absolutely blows Mahrez out the water by 85 points to 69 in that time - and he's played a game less!

    Mignolet - Elliot
    Bellerin - Reid - Janmaat - Dawson - Fuchs
    Sanchez - Ozil - Payet - Firmino - Mahrez
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

    0.0 ITB

Previously I was punting in Welbeck for Vardy, but can't do that with the midfield double-up, and I was hoping for at least 2 DGW strikers.

    - I can sell Vardy for 7.6M, so does anyone have any suggestions?
    - Also, the above is 0.1 short of Firmino instead of Coutinho (which I'd probably prefer), so if I can save that on the Vardy transfer great. DGW Deeney over Vardy?? (BIG ?)
    - I COULD, do Kane > Sturridge at neutral cost

Thoughts if you would care to share...?

I should note... I'm trying to build a team that pays in a Liverpool Supporters league here, and I'm not allowed to buy Utd or Everton players.

      Nice team..

      1. Lacking MU defense. DDG instead of Migno? You got Elliot to cover on GW 35
      2. Kane -> Lukaku would free a lot of funds for DDG & Firmino I reckon
      3. Not sure on Vardy for DGW, Deeney is enabler. Sturridge / Martial is an interesting prospect
      4. WBA, Sakho/Clyne for DGW37?

Thanks mate! Deeney is tempting. Suppose if he scored in either game he's likely to equal Vardy.

Ultimately, that spot is Defoe's as the season ends anyway.

I'd love to, but do you know the price difference between Vardy/Defoe and Sturridge?

I culd have a front three of Aguero, Studge and Kane, if I don't have both Arsenal big-hitters.

It's a balancing act, and not sure which way I'll go.

ummm its almost flip-a-coin close IMO but Firmino edges it slightly if they get equal game time. Don't let Coutinho's shot volume fool you, 70% of them are outside of the box fluff.

First season FPL here and need your help with my DGW planning.

I have already used my WC. Is it worth getting a -16 hit to get 12 DGW in GW 34 and use my bench boost chip? I will also be getting 10 players for GW 35 so I can use my FT to field 11 players.

    Team would be:

    Llores - Hennesey
    Olsson - Sakho - Smalling - Sagna - Ake
Payet - Mahrez - Coutinho (Or Firmino) - Lingard - Ozil
    Sturridge - Aguero - Kane

      Sagna is a concern,

But if youre gonna get thta much hit at least make sure you can get GW37 without hits too else its too many damage.

And also depends who youre getting for a hit. If it's Olson,Ake,Henn its really no use.
You can also consider Rojo as enabler if it means less hits.

Personally not a fan of the backline and 16 hits is a bit too much if that's whatyoure getting

      https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WMoQEicmkrJMusLUmzb0FuVCkBQ44xyKB22LkHTJ7hM/edit?usp=sharing

Some pointers on what it does:

      - States the DGW fixtures at the top, highlight those that have both and those with blanks
      - Allows you to enter your GW33 WC team on the left-hand side, name and team
      - It then populates the fixtures for that player into all subsequent weeks
      - The players in each subsequent week default to those of the previous, but you can overwrite the formulas to plan your transfers in GW 35-37. Subsequent weeks will update to reflect this transfer
      - Counters display
      ------No. of DGWers in GW34 & GW37
------No of players with a game in GW35
      - It also has a nice little summary of your WC team below which can easily by copied and pasted into a nice RMT format for the community

          No worries mate.

Firstly, I'd make a copy of the spreadsheet so you have your own version.

There's no sophisticated entry interface, it's just a simple spreadsheet with VLookups. So, if you type over Mignolet with DDG and entry MUN under Team, then you'll see all of the fixtures to the right change to reflect Utd's. If you're not sure of the standard abbreviations to enter under Team, refer to the Fixtures table starting at Column X.

In actual fact, it's irrelevant what you enter for the players name, as the spreadsheet is only using the team name to display the fixtures.

In GW35, for example, if you want to sell Mahrez for Willian (god knows why!!), simply overtype the name and team, and each subsequent fixture will reflect Chelsea's run-in.

If you don't like the look of that transfer (good call!), then simply copy the row above or below (or any you haven't overwritten) and the formulas will refer back to Mahrez in the previous GW again.

          Hope that's clear.

Feel free to ask any follow-up questions you may have.

So, my ability to get Sanchez into my GW34 team seems to come down to this...

      A) Sanchez + Vardy(or cheaper)
      B) Coutinho + Welback

B probably results in around 3M extra in the bank, unless A involves Deeney, wherein there would be around a 1M surplus. Cash is not the key consideration here though.

      Points-wise, what do you reckon?

      1. Whats the Huth
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

I'm not 100% certain with Sanchez. But stats showing that he's getting better with welbeck playing and Ozil appears to be going opposite way.
Next gameweek is our final chance I suppose to review them two.
Coutinho I'm not keen on at all. Stats are stewed by the fact he takes his shots outside the box.
Welbeck is a punt. He may not be nailed on, although wenger seems to like him.

Therefore points wise. Has to be A. I'd rather have Ighalo/deeney over Vardy though

I was steering clear of Sanchez, and he still hasn't been explosive but the's delivered in the last three weeks and has two great fixtures. If he could deliver on of his 20 point hauls he would be gold (or a disaster to not own).

Swinging towards A myself. But as you say, one more week to assess.

I would probably get B. Welbeck is a risk but might be worth taking

and I do agree what WTH said about Sanchez playing better with Welbeck.

Few months ago someone stated the same and had stats to back that judgement

to back judgement that Giroud lessens Sanchez appeal.

Yeah, completely agree. Giroud coming back into the side earlier in the season killed Sanchez.

              Cheers Kuqi!

If no major int. injuries which option looks best.

      Silva ➡

      A) Sanchez
      B) Özil if fit
      C) Willian / Oscar

I have Ozil, and am in two minds whether to swap on WC, but if I was purchasing from scratch now I'd probably go A

Same here. Not convinced yet on Sanchez

Me neither. Özil looked good at first half vs Everton imo.

Thanks Jossy. Özil is in my dgw team for sure but Sanchez is tempting for next gw.

It's a nice fixture for sure.

I don't have Payet for CPL, so that's my move this week.

Would do the same if didn't have Payet. Captain materil for next gw

He may well be just that for me!

Only lost him short-term for Siggy. Was a good move.

Bellerin, Ozil, Sanchez, Payet, Lukaku, DDG and Elliot nailed for the my WC team. Need to plan all other players around this lot.

@Jossy, sort by "headed goal attempts" for a full donkey list.

*down to about Bony. Lukaku's an exception because the rest of his numbers are so high.

And beyond Bony, most are defenders who carry a goal threat. Happy to invest in them

        Hahaha! Donkey list...

Top of the donkey list... OMG, how has he not scored more!?

Some OK players (and do mean SOME) near the top of the list, but none that offer you the consistency you're looking for,

Because headers are low value shots that make him a donkey forward!

Beyond Lukaku and Alderweireld I won't own many of those in a hurry.
