Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery – Gameweek 36

With another set of double fixtures looming in Gameweek 37 many in the Fantasy Football Scout community who have their second Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Wildcard intact are looking to use this Chip during Gameweek 36. As two Chips cannot be used in the same Gameweek, this tactic will enable them to use their Bench Boost or Triple Captaincy chips when the double fixtures take place.

This article will showcase the thoughts of a member of the community on their Wildcard and hopefully some of their key issues will mirror your own.

Feel free to use this article thread to put forward your Wildcard team and to help others with their Wildcard-related issues. Even if you have already used your Wildcard, this article should prove useful as you look to secure the best double Gameweek options.

Here’s Lateriser12 to go through his Gameweek 36 Wildcard plans

Wildcard Team

De Gea, Gomes
Cresswell, van Aanholt, Smalling, Bellerin, Jagielka
Hazard, Sanchez, Payet, Lanzini, Alli
Kane, Sturridge, Defoe

Strategy

My Wildcard team is set up to use my bench boost in Gameweek 37, with a view to securing good players with two fixtures as well as key single Gameweek players. Harry Kane, Alexis Sanchez, Dele Alli and Hector Bellerin all play just once but nevertheless look to be valuable assets. With an abundance of striker options and Champion League exertions to distract him I’m reluctantly saying goodbye to Sergio Aguero. Meanwhile, Europa league rotation is a factor in handing Roberto Firmino his redundancy papers.

Key issues

Single Cream

Is starting off with four single Gameweekers too many? Should I be looking to focus on more double Gameweek players? Or has Gameweek 34’s experience taught us that swerving good, in-form single Gameweekers can prove costly?

Ditching Firmino and Aguero

These two have been my favorite players this season. Having jumped on Firmino very early and having Triple Captained Aguero for Gameweek 34, I have a strong affinity to both. But not being assured of Firmino’s minutes and Aguero’s somewhat difficult fixtures makes me want to go for Jermain Defoe instead who also acts as a great enabler. Daniel Sturridge seems like a prime captaincy candidate as well. Should I compromise and keep one of Firmino and Aguero or am  right to focus on more secure double Gameweek options.

Between the Sticks

In goal I’ll play Heurelho Gomes in Gameweek 36 and David De Gea in Gameweek 38. But are these the two best goalkeepers for the bench-boosted double Gameweek?

Hector’s House

Bellerin has retained his place due to strong fixtures for the run-in, with Norwich and Aston Villa taking on Arsenal either side of the double Gameweek. But are there better options? Are there any double Gameweek teams worth doubling up in defence, aside from Manchester United?

Bargain Hunting

With the above team I currently have 0.9m in the bank. Should I consider using that to improve on my current bargain basement candidates Gomes, Phil Jagielka, Manuel Lanzini and Alli. For example, is Troy Deeney a viable option, against an already relegated Villa side and now without the FA Cup to distract him?

    Costa/Carroll/Firmino too risky?

I don't fancy double Norwich defence, but it can work out. The same applies to double Chelsea attack looking at their remaining fixtures. Alli may be an issue after tonight.

    Hello one and all,
Just wondering how my potential WC team fairs... any criticism welcome! Thanks in advance 🙂

De Gea - Gomes (Will change Gomes to Schwarzer for GW37)
Monreal - Rose - Morgan - Cresswell - Cathcart (Will change Morgan to Smalling for GW37)
    Ozil - Firmino - Payet - Alli - Milner
    Aguero - Sturridge - Carroll

Bit strange and banking on West Ham and Liverpool to play well, whilst praying that most of my team arent rotated out at some point! XD
Obviously Ive thought of other options - inc. Kane (even Lukaku) for Aguero, and Ighalo/Deeney/Defoe for Carroll

Any help would be great, thanks! 🙂

I don't like planning transfers after WC, let alone planning a hit for a defender.
Also I assume you aren't using BB in GW37 with Schwarzer ? If that is the case I would WC in GW37 unless you have TC.
Finally no Sanchez may hurt with his fixtures in GW36 & 38

Yesss, I thought that, thats why Ive already just put Schwarzer and Smalling in already!
I dont have any of my boosts like, this is my final one! So yess of course not playing BB with Schwarzer there! 😀

      Looks good.
Quite similar to mine, but although I have funds for a Chelsea defender I really can't see them keeping a single clean sheet over the next 4. Even though Norwich without Klose look leaky, I really think they'll get at least one clean sheet over the double through sheer desperate measures and can happily bench them in 36/38.

    My current WC team:

    Gomes - Ruddy
    Cresswell - Bellerin - PVA - Darmian - Moreno
    Sanchez - Mahrez - Payet - Firmino - Hazard
    Defoe - Carroll - Sturridge

Sturbridge and Firmino are the real dilemmas aren't they? Could play both games in the double and score big but could equally be benched for the majority of them. I would just go with one personally and Firmino is more reliable and hardy fitness-wise I reckon

    De Gea / Mannone
    Cresswell / PVA / Smalling / Cathcart / Olsson
Sanchez / Payet / Firmino / Fabregas / Milner or Mahrez or Eriksen?
    Defoe / Carroll / Lukaku

Fairly settled on the majority of these now. Got 3-4 million in the bank so any change is feasible.

Lukaku is a troll but only when you really expect him to do well. All other times, he is a nailed centre forward, penalty taker for an attacking team who is guaranteed around 20 goals a season.
Just need Everton as a whole team to get their act together and fashion some good chances again.

So this is not a WC team, but I'm debating multiple moves and potential hits towards GW37, so I'd like to pose a few questions if you'd kindly take the time to offer your thoughts.... Forgive the lengthy post, but this is the best form for this type of post...

    Current Team:
    Hart - Gomes
    Bellerin - Fuchs - Sakho - Gabriel - Simpson
Sanchez - De Bruyne - Payet - Alli - Lanzini
    Aguero - Kane - Sturridge

    A) Sakho > PvA or Cresswell? Which would be your priority for GW36
*** the other will probably come in for Gabriel in GW37

If Cresswell, I need a second transfer, but I'm keen to do this anyway with Alli and KDB in the side.

    B) Alli > Townsend or KDB > Firmino for GW36? (only the latter allows Cresswell in GW36)
*** the other will probably come in for GW37

    C) Alternative. I could take -8, bring both Townsend & Firmino in to enable Cresswell this week.
*** I really fancy Townsend for the next two

Appreciate your thoughts on the three questions, or the plan as a whole.

Here's my GW36 setup. Wildcard active, only have the All Out Attack chip left which I'll probably use in GW37.

    Schmeichel
    Huth, Alderweirdeld, van Aanholt
    Sanchez, Mahrez, Payet, Milner
    Defoe, Sturridge, Aguero

    De Gea, Cresswell, Noble, Smalling.
    £0.1m left in the bank

Thoughts? Not sure if I'm missing Everton or Chelsea cover, and if I should just ditch some defenders to boost mids if I'll be AOA chipping in GW37 anyway. With the current setup I can field 7 DGW players with AOA.

Looks like it. I think Sanchez from the Arsenal attack is the safet bet. Too many mid-price alternatives for Ollie available. Defoe and Carroll seem fairly safe bets (other than rotation risk for Carroll), then there's Lukaku (he has to score some time....right????) and one of Deeney / Ighalo. Ulloa has also been doing pretty well, and will benefit from Mahrez' service.

Any comments on this WC team? Planning for BB in GW37, and currently have a 30 point lead in my ML.

    Gomes (DDG)
Moreno - Reid - PvA (Morgan - Azpi)
    Mahrez - Hazard - Payet - Firmino - Sanchez (C)
    Kun - Carroll (Rashford)
    0.4 ITB

Was thinking of the obvious choices like Defoe or Sturridge, and am a little concerned with all the Klopp and change. I know Haz is a bit of a risk, but he is looking sharp and I expect he'll finish in the goals, especially given what Hiddink has been saying about him.

    Please rate my WC team:

    Gomes (Darlow)

Cresswell Bellerin Van Aanholt (Smalling, Kaboul)

Payet Ozil Sanchez (c) Mahrez (King)

    Carroll Aguero Kane

Obviously with one eye on the double next week - I have bench boost to play.

Real bones of contention for me are the two Sunderland defenders and whether to plump for Mahrez or Eriksen.., Sort of tempted by Sturridge too but it's risky.

FWIW I'm 6 points off top of my league.

Not sure on whether it's worth it to double up on Arsenal in attack. Perhaps a gamble on the Chelski players? That said, I've been managing my team based on what the other chaps in my league have been doing. If nobody within touching distance has Hazard, for example, no point taking that risk!

    Cresswell, Smalling, PVA, Olsson, Lovren
    Sanchez, Payet, Lanzini, Hazard, Firmino
    Sturridge, Deeney, Lukaku

    0.6 itb

Should I keep Mahrez, Kane or Bellerin instead of any DGWer ?
    Deeney or Defoe ?

I like it! It is perhaps risky with three Liverpool players because of rotation risk. I am going with Firmino and possibly Lovren/Moreno. Firmino looks most nailed-on, but Sturridge is clearly the form player. I might bring him in for the double gw instead of Deeney.
My only player without a double will be sanchez. I have to take advantage (hopefully) of the fact that I have a WC, as opposed to many of my mini-league opponents. Considering his high value, Kane is risky with Alli out and diminished hope of title challenge. But Mahrez and Bellerin sounds reasonable.
You could possibly put in defoe for deeney after the Villa fixture?

      1. Suarezista
        • 10 Years

        Cheers mate.
I think Sturridge will start on Sunday, probably 60 minutes or so, and will start at least once in the DGW.
I can do get Defoe next week but it looks like a waste of a transfer. I think I will get him this week if I decide he is the better pick.
Bellerin, Kane and Nahrez are still tough decisions for me.

    PvA, Moreno, Smalling, Cresswell, Iva
    Haz, Sanchez, Firmino, Brady, Payet
    Deeney, Defoe, Carroll

I am undecided about Moreno/Lovren/Olsson. I was thinking Deeney out for Lukaku, Costa or Sturridge before gw 37 depending on who looks fresh in gw 36. I have bb for gw 37. Thoughts would be appreciated!

I don't like planning future transfers on WC, but it may work.
Brady is a punt, I think Lovern is safer than Moreno but this is isn't based on anything and personally prefer a Liverpool defender to a Norwich one.

Fair point. It would be better to have the free transfer available in case of injury. I might go for Sturridge right away based on your advice. In that case, I will drop Defoe or Carroll. If Sturridge does not feature this week, a bench player would replace him, which is no crisis. This eventuality might also increase his playing time for the double. I think I might also go for Lovren, seing that Sakho is unavailable. Brady is clearly a punt, but imo he is the Norwich midfielder who is most likely to get points if they do well. I might get a punt who is less risky. 🙂

    Dear Gea - Ruddy

    Sanch - Bark - Payet - Firmino - Fab
    Lukaku - Ighalo - Martial
