FANTASY EFL GAMEWEEK 4 SCOUT PICKS
GOALKEEPER
All four contributors selected Max O’Leary, making the West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper the clear favourite between the posts.
The Baggies face Watford at home before travelling to Derby County, two sides who have collected just two wins between them since the start of the season. That gives O’Leary two promising opportunities for clean-sheet points.
DEFENDERS
Ryan Manning was one of the most popular defensive selections, receiving the backing of three contributors.
Southampton travel to newly-promoted Lincoln City before hosting Swansea City, handing Manning two appealing fixtures. Clean sheets aren’t his only route to points either, having already taken a penalty and registered two assists across all competitions this season.
Alongside him is Konstantinos Mavropanos, who offers a route into a West Ham defence facing Derby County and Bolton Wanderers.
The Hammers haven’t started the season as they would have liked, but the fixtures provide an opportunity to improve defensively. Mavropanos also scored in his previous match, highlighting the additional attacking threat he can offer.
MIDFIELDERS
There was a unanimous verdict on Isaac Price, with all four contributors selecting the West Brom midfielder.
Price has established himself as one of the Baggies’ most influential attackers, accumulating 38 Fantasy points at an average of 9.5 per match. Two goals, one assist, seven key passes and seven shots on target highlight the multiple routes he has to returns.
Joining him is Finn Azaz, who has also made an impressive start to the campaign.
The Southampton midfielder has already produced one goal and three assists, cementing himself as one of his side’s most effective attackers. Like Price, his combination of goal and assist potential makes him particularly appealing across two fixtures.
FORWARDS
Jarrod Bowen leads the line and also takes the captain’s armband.
West Ham face Derby at home before travelling to Bolton, giving their talisman two attractive opportunities to return. Bowen converted from the penalty spot last time out and also takes set pieces, while his underlying open-play numbers have been excellent since the start of the campaign.
Those multiple routes to attacking returns, combined with a favourable pair of fixtures, make Bowen our preferred captain.
The switch to two forwards also brings Rumarn Burrell into the side.
QPR have looked convincing going forward, making their attacking assets particularly appealing this week. Burrell collected eight points against Blackburn Rovers before following that with a brace and 15 points last time out, and now faces Middlesbrough at home and Charlton Athletic away.
TEAM PICKS
Our experts have strongly backed West Ham United and Southampton as this week’s two club selections.
Despite a difficult start to the campaign, West Ham’s matches against Derby and Bolton provide an excellent opportunity to produce points at both ends of the pitch.
Southampton also have an appealing schedule, travelling to newly-promoted Lincoln before hosting Swansea. Having already scored 10 goals across their opening matches, their attacking form adds another reason to back them across the Double Gameweek.
