This evening’s final Euro 2016 match pits reigning World Cup champions Germany against Poland.
The two sides will know each other well after being drawn in the tournament’s qualifying group. That saw Poland end an 18-match winless run against the Germans, beating them 2-0 in Warsaw. However, Germany got the better of Adam Nawałka’s side in the return fixture with a 3-1 victory.
Germany also has the upper hand in major tournaments having beaten Poland at Euro 2008 and the 2006 World Cup, keeping clean sheets on both occasions. Indeed, Germany have kept eight shut-outs in their last 12 encounters with Poland.
Both sides will be looking for their second win in the tournament, with Poland getting the better of a resolute Northern Ireland defence to run out 1-0 winners. Meanwhile, Joachim Low’s Germany mustered an impressive 18 goal attempts as they saw off Ukraine 2-0.
Germany will be looking for a big performance from Thomas Muller who despite registering 10 goals in his 13 World Cup games, has so far failed to score or assist a single goal in any of his six European Championship tournament matches.
