At the Gameweek 15 mark last season I started to write a series of articles that monitored the most experienced Fantasy Premier League managers. This 34-strong group, of FPL winners, FFScout moderators and contributors and those riding high in the Hall of Fame, proved to be a key group to follow after their stellar end to the season. Once again I will be monitoring this group, but this time I want to start from Gameweek 1, use a bigger sample of veterans and also offer FPL players of all levels of experience the chance to compete with this elite bunch.
Why track the Veterans?
I think the wider Fantasy Football community can learn a lot from this group, especially the way they dealt with FPL’s introduction of three new chips. Their experience paid off as most kept their Triple Captaincy and Bench Boost chips for the end of season double Gameweeks, a move that propelled them up the rankings. Between Gameweeks 17 and 38 the average overall ranking of the veterans climbed from 245,000 to 14,725.
Tracking these experienced players’ captain choices and transfer moves can also prove more illuminating than looking closely at the top 10,000 managers, who may be there due to using their chips early on. Tracking overall player ownership can also prove fruitless as the season progresses as by Gameweek 38 last season six out of ten FPL teams where ghost ships.
Who are the Veterans?
As I mention above, last season Veterans were just 34 managers. This season’s sample will be extended to 50 managers. I know that sample could be even bigger than that but I want to track only the best and the most experienced managers around.
Here is the run down of veterans I will be tracking.
– 15 from FFS Contribution and Moderators league
– 20 top hall of famers
– 15 spots will be open.
How to become a Veteran?
Note that there are now 15 spots among this elite group up for grabs.
If you want to be among those I’m tracking all you need to do is contact me at kavali985@gmail.com with the following information:
– Your Fantasy Football Scout username
– Your Fantasy team ID
To qualify you must have at least five FPL seasons experience, with a minimum of two top 10,000 finishes. With a help of the FFScout moderators, I will choose the best 15 managers and announce their names a few days before Gameweek 1.
Beat the Veterans
I am also giving all FPL managers the chance to take on the veterans. If you think you are better than this group, you can find out by join the FPL mini league “Beat the Veterans” (3987-32519 ).
Regardless of experience and previous rankings, everyone will have a chance to participate. Teams will be eliminated every Gameweek as follows:
From Gameweek 1-Gameweek 15
Every non-veteran teams that scores less than the lowest veteran team in a particular Gameweek will be eliminated.
From GW15-30
Every non-veteran teams whose Overall Ranking for the season to date is worse than the veterans’ average overall ranking will be eliminate.
From GW31-38
Every non-veterans teams whose Gameweek points are lower than veterans’ average for that particular Gameweek will be eliminated.
If more then one team survives by Gameweek 38, then the team with the best score in the last round will be the winner. If two or more teams have the same number of points in the last round, then the team with the best Overall Rank will win the league.
Next season I will run a series of articles updating the progress of the veterans, including who they are transferring in and out, as well as focusing on the teams involved in the Beat the Veterans league.
I hope that all of you with a great Season History will send me an email to fight for a spot in veterans sample. Also, I hope that plenty of managers will accept the challenge to join my mini-league to try to Beat The Veterans. The winner of that league will gain a deserved spot in 2017/18’s Veterans sample.
