At the Gameweek 15 mark last season  I started to write a series of articles that monitored the  most experienced Fantasy Premier League managers. This 34-strong group, of FPL winners, FFScout moderators and contributors and those riding high in the Hall of Fame, proved to be a key group to follow after their stellar end to the season. Once again I will be monitoring this group, but this time I want to start from Gameweek 1, use a bigger sample of veterans and also offer FPL players of all levels of experience the chance to compete with this elite bunch.

Why track the Veterans?

I think the wider Fantasy Football community can learn a lot from this group, especially the way they dealt with FPL’s introduction of three new chips. Their experience paid off as most kept their Triple Captaincy and Bench Boost chips for the end of season double Gameweeks, a move that propelled them up the rankings. Between Gameweeks 17 and 38 the average overall ranking of the veterans climbed from 245,000 to 14,725.

Tracking these experienced players’ captain choices and transfer moves can also prove more illuminating than looking closely at the top 10,000 managers, who may be there due to using their chips early on.  Tracking overall player ownership can also prove fruitless as the season progresses as by Gameweek 38 last season six out of ten FPL teams where ghost ships.

Who are the Veterans?

As I mention above, last season Veterans were just 34 managers. This season’s sample will be extended to 50 managers. I know that sample could be even bigger than that but I want to track only the best and the most experienced managers around.

Here is the run down of veterans I will be tracking.

15 from FFS Contribution and Moderators league
20 top hall of famers
15 spots will be open.

How to become a Veteran?

Note that there are now 15 spots among this elite group up for grabs.

If you want to be among those I’m tracking all you need to do is contact me at kavali985@gmail.com with the following information:

– Your Fantasy Football Scout username

– Your Fantasy team ID

To qualify you must have at least five FPL seasons experience,  with a minimum of two top 10,000 finishes. With a help of the FFScout moderators, I will choose the best 15 managers and announce their names a few days before Gameweek 1.

Beat the Veterans

I am also giving all FPL managers the chance to take on the veterans. If you think you are better than this group, you can find out by join the FPL mini league “Beat the Veterans” (3987-32519 ).

Regardless of experience and previous rankings, everyone will have a chance to participate. Teams will be eliminated every Gameweek as follows:

From Gameweek 1-Gameweek 15
Every non-veteran teams that scores less than the lowest veteran team in a particular Gameweek will be eliminated.

From GW15-30
Every non-veteran teams whose Overall Ranking for the season to date is worse than the veterans’ average overall ranking will be eliminate.

From GW31-38
Every non-veterans teams whose Gameweek points are lower than veterans’ average for that particular Gameweek will be eliminated.
If more then one team survives by Gameweek 38, then the team with the best score in the last round will be the winner. If two or more teams have the same number of points in the last round, then the team with the best Overall Rank will win the league.

Next season I will run a series of articles updating the progress of the veterans, including who they are transferring in and out,  as well as focusing on the teams involved in the Beat the Veterans league.

I hope that all of you with a great Season History will send me an email to fight for a spot in veterans sample. Also, I hope that plenty of managers will accept the challenge to join my mini-league to try to Beat The Veterans. The winner of that league will gain a deserved spot in 2017/18’s Veterans sample.

I've joined this as a standard player.

We could do a separate game? Quick idea...

Managers who finished in the top 100 OR against some Mods in a head to head league?

I can really relate to the picture in the post!

I might give it a go but my transfers have been more whack with my stubborn old man attitude ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ...Then again, last season was whack all by itself.

Am I likely to be one of the 15 from the FFS Moderators and Contributors League (which already contains 21 teams)?

I have had two top 10k finishes in 7 seasons.

I hope so. I can't see season history for those 21 moderators yet, 15 of them will be added after first deadline. Jonty will help me to decide and to choose 15 best.

I find it very annoying that FPL no longer allow us to see season histories for teams waiting to be added to mini-leagues.

I used to be able to check all teams waiting to be added to the Top 10k Any Season mini-league to make sure that they satisfied the entry condition (and quite a few of them did not - some of the teams attempting to join had never been anywhere near a top 10k finish), but now I won't be able to do this until after the results update.

I know, very annoying. My biggest problem will be to collect 20 new ID's for top 20 in HoF. Other than that, this will be an easy task, guys who send me an emails, they send me ID's and FFS moderators are all in the same league, I will collect their ID's very easy.

I think I might just scrape in, but it could be close.
            Comparing the Moderators and Contributors League with the Live Hall of Fame, it appears that;
10 have had at least 3 top 10k finishes (the most being Mark with 7 in the last 10 years)
4 or 5 have had 2 top 10k finishes (including myself)
3 or 4 have only had 1 top 10k finish (including champion Tom Fenley!)
3 are not currently in the Hall of Fame.

All of the 18 in the Hall of Fame have played at least 5 seasons.

Thanks to all of you who already sent me an email! I just want to clarify that this season I will announce in public names of those 15 managers who will be chosen from the community to be a part of the elite group. That way, everyone who failed to "make the cut" will have a chance to see that simply, there are managers amongst the community with better season history. This competition must be fair, and everyone must have a chance to participate. This is my only goal.
I know that everyone wanna be a part of a elite group. I will write an articles for whole season but I will not be a part of the group. Simply, there are better managers than me right now. I'll try to beat the Veterans in the mini league. Also, thanks to all of you who join my mini league. This article was published only a few hours ago, and already there are 200 managers in "Beat the Veterans" mini league.
    Cheers!

I would have wanted to be part of the veterans group, but I don't think that I qualify... only 4 seasons experience and only one top 10k finish (it was top 1k, mind you).
But reading the tracking the veterans articles from last season, I quickly realized that I fit the veterans mold quite closely.
I like the idea for the league, though!
If you can't join 'em, beat 'em!

My application has been sent. Looking forward to taking on the veterans if I don't make the cut myself, no doubt there will be stiff competition from the FFS community.

    Good luck this season folks!

Enjoyed these articles last year but I'd prefer to see 2x finishes at minimum 5k rather than 10k.

I've been knocking on 10k door two years in a row (ultimately fell short) but wouldn't class myself as a veteran. Want to see what players significantly better than me are doing!
