The Stock Check – Gameweek 6 – Sunday

West Ham’s dire form shows no sign of abating, as Southampton march into the London Stadium and take three points, with Charlie Austin amongst the goals once again. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s encounter….

On the Rise

Charlie Austin
Having scored four goals in the previous three across all competitions, the Saints striker was granted a second Premier League start of the season by Claude Puel. Austin vindicated that decision with the opener and also supplied the assist for Dusan Tadic’s goal; he is clearly in the midst of a hot streak right now.

With Leicester City, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next six, though, the fixtures are hardly in his favour.

Dusan Tadic
After a slow start to the season, the Serbian continues to build momentum. Tadic opened the campaign with a trio of blanks but has since served up points in each of the subsequent three. Assists against Arsenal and Swansea City were followed up with an ice-cool finish against the Hammers as the Saints chalked up a fourth straight win in all competitions.

Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for the Saints in the Premier League after keeping out Swansea City last weekend. Ryan Bertrand earned his first attacking points of the season with an assist for Austin’s goal, while Cedric Soares mirrored his fellow full-back for bonus with two apiece.

The duo have now served up 18 and 17 points respectively in the last couple of Gameweeks as Puel’s approach finally takes hold.

In Decline

Dimitri Payet
Much was expected of the Hammers today, from what was the first of four home matches in six. While Michail Antonio’s kinder price may persuade some to hold ahead of visits from Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Sunderland, the premium priced Payet may well be seen as surplus to requirements. Yet to score in the league so far, he has been subject to more transfers out than any midfielder this term and that trend may well continue in light of today’s uninspiring display.

Michail Antonio
Antonio’s stock also takes a dent following the tactical tweaks from Slaven Bilic. With the Hammers chasing the game, Bilic replaced Håvard Nordtveit with striker Ashley Fletcher on 71 minutes. Antonio was then shifted to become an attacking right-back – a move which could become familiar should West Ham find themselves in a similar scenario again. Given their form, that seems likely.

James Collins
The Welshman’s run in West Ham’s first XI came to an end after he dropped out of the squad today. Having started each of the first five, Collins – who rose to 9% ownership in FPL – was clearly earmarked as the fall guy, with Winston Reid returning to partner Angelo Ogbonna at centre-half. Today’s capitulation may well force another rethink, though – the Hammers have now shipped 14 goals in the last four.

It can't be often you go into one match with both your keepers and they are dropped. Using a transfer on a new keeper is about as dull as making James McLean my 5th mid.

Lets start off with a little What would you do.

1FT. 0.2M in the bank. A wildcard in the backpocket.

    Foster (Jaku)
    Valencia Williams Stones (Friend Amat)
    Alexis Iwobi Firmino Bolasie (Capoo)
    Kun Zlatan Benteke

I'm thinkin either Friend -> Holebas or Benteke -> Ighalo/Deeney/Rashford/Austin or save

    Anyone got any creative ideas?

      You still got WC? Hmm.

You have all the most important players I'd say. Your defense is not bad for next GW.

      Save FT comfortably.

A wildcard in the back pocket gives me the license to play an aggressive game though.

Surprisingly good start. Cracked 100k already, I think I was at 2 mill at this point last season. Haven't mavericked it out exactly, but haven't done any yuuuuuge mistakes either.

The WC is gold though, any GWs eyed up where fixtures swing big time?

Still, I saved it for late (well, GW10-11 or so) last season and I regretted it. The first half WC is much less valuable after the change in WC rules.

      My forward line.

I'm not a fan of Alexis and Bolasie. Prefer Son and Antonio.

I think Stones needs to be Walker as a long term pick.

      Creative?

      How about:

      Alexis -> Son
      Bolasie->Antonio
      Stones->Walker

Alexis has had three double figure hauls in the last three gameweeks. Not selling him. I'm looking at getting Son though but Bolasie has a prime fixture so waiting and watching.

        Thanks for your input. 🙂

      Need some advice for gw7

      cech
      bellerin / sagna / Morgan
      Capoue / Sterling / Coutinho / Snodgrass
      ibra / Lukaku / Defoe

Bench: Fer / Aderweireld / kolarov

Should i hold for this week attacking fixtures are good but my mid is abit weak. Maybe get rid of ibra for another attacker and Sanchez next week?

        Wow that's tough.

It's easier to give you advice if you post how many free transfers you have and how much money you have in the bank. I'm assuming 1FT and nothing in the bank.

You've painted yourself into a corner by not getting Aguero. Save FT, Ibra (c) and get Aguero after deadline.

    Heaton - Robinson
    Williams - Holebas - Evans - Collins - Amat
    Sanchez - Firmino - Sterling - Capoue - Carrick
    Kun - Benteke - Ibra

I know my defence is weak, but who do downgrade to find money?

Players to plan to get rid of IMO : Courtois, Kone, Bony, Friend & Hazard.

And there's some element of random luck too, if Everton had kept a CS as expected, Ibra scored and Firmino gotten some attacking points, you'd have had a much better GW.

I sold ibra last week and bought rashford this week 😳

One has nothing to do with the other though.
      Relevant points:
      Coverage is a funny myth.
Ibra is amazing and will keep scoring loads.
Everyone has to choose which handful of amazing players to go without this season.
Rashford is decent when compared to players in that price range (why would you compare him to ibra?)

I got Rashford on WC this week :/

Mainly because I was sure he was going to start this week, United needed a performance and news of Rooney starting filtered through hours leading up to deadline.

Was also sacrificing Ibra for a better midfield, got in Sterling and Mane (would otherwise have been Antonio and Firmino if kept Ibra).

Risked Rashford getting a good performance and then being nailed for Stoke. Always planned to ditch after Stoke due to uncertain minutes.

Has worked so far this week...but yea based on the weekend, I'd prefer Ibra going into GW7.

I have kept Ibra, because starting without him was awful and I can't really enjoy watching United without him in my team. He's captain this week - if he fails, I think I'll bite the bullet and drop him to fund Alexis.

I have also brought in Rashford. Possibly a short term punt, but if he's nailed he's great value and also a player I won't mind benching now and again given my resolution never to bench Capoue.

This is madness haha. For a start, they are not comparable. Rashford is a 3rd striker consideration. Zlatan is this weird hybrid of a 1st/2nd striker which is why I don't think he's worth it currently.

Aguero is number 1 for a start. This massively impacts on Zlatan's captain potential.

Lukaku is 9(ish)m and is out performing him. Why exactly am I supposed to be motivated in paying 2.5m extra for a sinking ship. Zlatan has a lovely fixture next but then he has Liverpool and Chelsea away. Lukaku has far better fixtures in the next few and the extra money allows you a far better midfield where the premium players are performing. Zlatan should have been removed after Watford.

    Morning gents.

This is my lot for the GW.

    Foster
    Evans Valencia Stones
    Alexis Hazard Firmino Capoue
    Kun Lukaku Rondon

    (Jakupovic/Redmond/Friend/Amat)

1 FT, nothing banked and wildcard intact.

Worried about the Hazard and Friend impending price drops and my defense. What move(s) would you make?

Hmm. I like it, especially this week with Hazard at home to HUL.

I think I'd just save, nice to have 2 FTs on international break, but you'll have to eat the Haz price drop(s) in order to get the point potential for this GW.

Hazard is away to hull this week. Currently I'm looking at either:

        a) Stones/Friend to Holebas
        b) Hazard to Walcott/Ozil
        c) Saving.

          He's away? My bad.

Haz out ASAP then. Lots of options, I'd even consider doubling on LFC with Mane, but that's a little risky 😀

Sterling is a pretty safe choice although he has a bad fixtures this GW he's gathering points.

Arsenal double up... I like it a lot! Probably Ozil more so than Wally.

    Hi guys,

did FPL official give out any info on how many Capoue owners have him in the first 11 or on the bench?

No players left for today, so trying to figure out what the damage will be if he delivers. Deeney ownership is 6,2% so I will live with that. 🙂

    Thanks all. 😉

Let the Capoue owners start him. Its a good time to get some points for your 4th mid competition vs Capoue.

Yup, have Bolasie as my forth mid, didn't deliver for me this week. But have him since GW4, so got all his points for now and I'm happy with him.

Capoue on my bench, hoping for 2 pointer, as Champ said.

        Cheers. 🙂

All in all, I'm pleased with 60 points this week with only 3 of my players delivering. 🙂

Cheers. Don't know about Holebas, it certainly helps his case as the game is today, so he had some time.

Wildcard can be used correctly too. In all my years, i've never used it early.

If not GW11, i'm looking at playing an aggressive risky game until the team needs a wildcard 🙂

    Good morning,
    so here is my situation:

0.4 ITB with 1 FT and WC used.

    Foster Jaku
    Williams Lovren Holebas Amat Smith
    Sanchez Firmino Sterling Antonio Capoue
    Aguero Lukaku Rashford

do I save my FT? I was thinking on shipping Antonio out for Lallana. Just seems very good value for money and Liverpool worth doubling up. Increases your chances on the lottery ticket..
Other one is to cash in on jake and get pickford just before he rises 0.1 in the coming days.
And who to captain? don't have zlatan, so I was thinking Sanchez, Rashford, Lukaku in that order of preference.

Antonio agony....what's the general consensus on here? Shifted back to defense and in a team obviously struggling for form. Those good fixtures dont count for too much when your getting beaten by Westbrom and Southampton which could have been regarded as "easier" fixtures. I could make a straight swap to Lallana or a more Maverick move of Firmino ➡️ Couts and Valencia ➡️ Son -4

Getting off players at the right time is key, just as important as getting them in.
Watched the game, West Ham were so so poor, no sign of being unlucky or could easily get better.
Wouldnt do for a hit but could be the right time for a Lallana swap ( I own Antonio)

    Morning FFSers,

My midfield and attack is currently lined up like this:

    Ozil - Firmino - Sterling - Antonio - Capoue
    Lukaku - Kun - Tekkers

I am contemplating Firm > Walcott and Ozil > Sanchez to double up on Arsenal over the coming weeks. Both look explosive and at the moment I find it hard to justify picking a Liverpool mid with the current points spread.

    Thoughts?

I also have the issue of Masuake in defence but lets not go there (have Amat so can't downgrade to get Sanchez)

Not unusual but mines gone, always use it early to rectify my consistent mistakes!
If you have an ok rank, not too many team issues and still have WC then well done

It's a good thing, although you may want to start thinking about when you trigger it.

There will be a few GWs where fixtures 'pivot' (i.e Arsenal and Liverpool now have a great run), so best to WC then to take full advantage.

I still got mine but that's because I'm too busy with work. Need to take a week off to dedicate to my WC

Stupid, novice question alert ... Do you have any good examples of a double rise?

Wait till Xmas. Rotation and postponed games maybe. Could even be a sneaky DGW if so

Interesting. I've never heard of anyone advocating a WC during the busy Christmas schedule.

I usually try and wait but this season I used mine for week 4. Had a shocking start, falling just below average in each of first 3 weeks. Every week since I've comfortable beaten the average and have been climbing my leagues so it was a good call to use it early.

I've usually wildcarded around GW4-6 as I'm 800k but this year I was 5k so was in a conundrum. I did WC last week as I wanted Ag and had 4 players I didn't want and I've still moved up to 4.1k with 2 to play. WC early is the way to build team value. I believe it's always the way to go.
