The Watchlist – Ibrahimovic Suffers From Rashford Rise

Zlatan Ibrahimovic drops out of our Watchlist top three for strikers for the first time this season, with Saturday’s blank providing just one factor behind the slip.

Although the Swede impressed in Manchester United’s 4-1 dismantling of champions Leicester City, Ibrahimovic emerged without returns and watched on while Marcus Rashford notched his third goal of the season in as many Premier League starts.

With Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero confirming his status as the top target for our forward lines with a brace at Swansea City, there were clear signs that Ibrahimovic’s burgeoning ownership was on the move.

At the time of writing, he’s suffered over 65,000 sales and endured yet another price drop to 11.6 having scaled the heights of 11.9 just a fortnight ago.

Inevitably, Aguero is receiving that traffic. The top transfer target overnight, the Argentine is now owned by 35% of FPL managers, with Ibrahimovic dropping to 56%. We will likely see that gap narrow by the week from this point on.

Rashford is also a factor. The 19-year-old enjoyed a price rise to 6.9 overnight having ranked second to Aguero for transfers in.

The potential value he offers can be a makeweight for the Aguero move, while also providing assurance of some cover of Manchester United’s attack ahead of their plum Gameweek 7 tie with Stoke City at Old Trafford.

Rashford climbs in our Watchlist rankings, though doubts remain about his minutes and his role.

Jose Mourinho deployed Rashford on the left flank against the Foxes, charging him with cutting inside and beyond Ibrahimovic when the Swede retreated deeper.

Wayne Rooney may have been ousted to the bench but he will doubtless remain a factor to offer rotation options, and that has us retain Ibrahimovic as the primary source of goals and points in United’s attack for now.

Another name has superseded the both Rashford and Ibrahimovic as Watford’s Troy Deeney climbs into our top three.

In action at Burnley on Monday night, we’re pre-empting another impressive display from Walter Mazzarri’s men, with Deeney a central figure.

He goes into the Turf Moor encounter off the back of two goals in consecutive matches and, crucially, has the fixtures over the next five Gameweeks to further his reputation as a valuable Fantasy asset in the third striker slot.

Jermain Defoe’s brace in Sunderland’s defeat to Crystal Palace also keeps him bubbling as an alternative.

Now level on points with Ibrahimovic, he has already delivered exceptional value and remains the focal point of the Black Cats’ attack with West Brom and Stoke City up next.

Chelsea’s Diego Costa suffers a significant drop in Watchlist rank following his blank and fourth booking of the season at Arsenal. The Spaniard is now just a single yellow card from a one-match ban and has a tough schedule of opponents looming.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Vincent Janssen makes a first appearance in our thinking having registered an assist in Saturday’s win at Middlesbrough, although with the fixtures stiffening for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, we’re showing early caution before boasting the Dutchman’s stock considerably.

The form of Son Heung-min is also a variable to consider.

The South Korean takes his place in our midfield Watchlist having relieved Erik Lamela as our choice candidate from the Spurs ranks.

But Son is amongst a competitive field, bolstered by no less than four Liverpool candidates who continue to jostle for position in our affections.

We go on struggling to pin down the key weapon in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield armoury and, right now, have chosen to show faith with Roberto Firmino, despite a bitterly disappointing blank in yesterday’s 5-1 rout of Hull City.

The suspicion is that the goals, assists and points will be continued to be shared out across the Reds’ midfield, with each taking turns to come to the fore or miss out.

However, Firmino has now blanked in three of five starts and is lagging behind his team-mates for FPL returns.

The Gameweek 7 trip to Swansea will give us yet more data to go on and perhaps see a clear candidate emerge.

For now, the Liverpool pack are firmly in our thoughts but left trailing the likes of Raheem Sterling, Michail Antonio and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez who all have form and/or fixtures in their favour.

Kevin De Bruyne is a notable omission – his hamstring injury sustained at Swansea was confirmed by Pep Guardiola post-match, forcing us to put his prospects on ice for the time being.

The Watchlist rankings for all positions have been revised this morning and are available in the sidebar or via the fourth button on the homepage on mobile.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Right then, thrash out this Liverpool midfield issue.

I sense we're wrong to stick with Firmino but experience already this season tells us it pays to show some faith.

Really wish I hadn't gone with the majority with Firmino 2 weeks ago. From watching them play Mane is by far the most impressive in my opinion.

So why didn't you watch them play before getting Firmino? Did "the majority" break your TV set as well?

Nah, I'm not having that. From what I recall you finished top 100 last season and have multiple other top 5k seasons as well. You can't hide behind "popular opinion", you are good enough to make your own decisions.

I captained him yesterday, so feel like he owes me!
Mane is more expensive, Coutinho comes off after 65 minutes, and Lallana plays deeper. So I'm sticking to my guns

I'm seriously considering Mane and Lallana in for Antonio and Firmino - not yet but in a few Gameweeks.

Antonio is potent but I do think the situation will change at West Ham tactically. Lallana's ability to sustain his output is surprising me.

I recently got Firmino and plan to stick 2 more weeks then reevaluate. Personally I suspect Milner or Lallana may be the best bet when you consider where the funds could be used elsewhere in a midfield 5.

Firmino is central to Liverpool's play and was still very heavily involved in/around the box.

Liverpool had Hull penned back the entire game as well so the scoreline does flatter them abit. Not worried one bit about Firmino's point potential.

Firmino to Lallana allows Ozil to Sanchez so probably a no brainer for me. Can't ignore Sanchez any longer.

If money wasn't an issue then I'd be going Mane.

I think long term I'll have 2. Currently on Firmino and think it would be rash to get rid, he will get points long term and I don't want to waste transfers swapping Liverpool midfielders around based on who scored points in their previous game. If in a few games he's still not scoring then I might swap but for now he's getting in to good positions and creating a lot of chances, over the course of a season he will pick up a lot of points but they're all good options. I think Liverpool will be the top scoring team so I'm quite happy to stick a couple in, preferably Firmino and Mane, and then forget about themy.

            i think he means...

City has KDB as standout option then Sterling as secondary
Arsenal has Sanchez as standout option, then Ozil, and maybe Walcott punt / Caz pens

Liverpool have Firmino, Mane, Coutinho, Lallana, Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum all capable of getting equal points.

Arsenal are a different case this season. Sanchez is playing #9 and is an utter bargain. He also seldom gets rested. So he's in my team. Payet is my other big hitter in midfield, another one that's nailed and is every bit as good as any Liverpool or City midfielder.

I didn't plan to take a City mid till GW11 at the earliest after the Barcelona games, there will be rotation for sure. But if KDB's injury is serious that might change things a bit by making Sterling's position more secure.

I have tripled up: had cout for a few weeks, got Mane and Firm in for this obscene fixture run.

Value wise, Pool's attack is insane, and no Eurotation to worry about. Lallana is obviously annoying, but it sounds like Firm was unlucky so I'll give him another couple of weeks.

Lottery. Coutinho could have scored 3 yesterday. Mane looked great. Lallana is on fire. Firmino's off the ball running indirectly created three Liverpool goals yesterday. He was excellent and will score a tonne of points. I'll be going with two Liverpool mids, I think.

It looks like Coutinho is adding end product to his already excellent play - starting to think he might be the one. But whether Firm > Cout is worth a precious free transfer I really don't know. You sort of know that Firmino will get a haul the minute you sell him.

We've seen this season that any of the Liverpool mids can do well. Firmino created lots of chances yesterday and had a goal threat. None worked out...but only two gwks or so ago he was the one racking up the double digit score.

I don't think its a case of arguing that Mane is better than Coutinho or Lallana is better than Firmino its more a case of they are all good and against weak or even supposedly good sides like Chelsea they are all capable of racking up goals and assists.

I think doubling up with Mane/Firmino or Coutinho with the cheaper Lallana is a definite option as when on fire many of them will do well.

I've had a look at Firmino's stats and watched the highlights and he could have got a good score too - just didn't work out that way on the day.

I've Firmino and will stick with him until his underlying stats decree otherwise. For me the key issue is do I double up with Lallana or not.

For members here's a table - sort by current gameweek and you'll see what I mean about not getting into a debate about which is better and focusing on why they are all so good and whether you need to double up.

I can't really comment on that without seeing your whole squad, knowing what sort of risk taker you are. I think the best advice I can give is the one I give myself - look at the fixtures and underlying stats - if they are both in a player's favour then most of the time they will do well.

I think the real question is likely which of the 4 will provide the best value over the season/period in our team?

I think that will likely be between Lallana and Coutinho at the moment. Lallana at 7.2m is hard to ignore right now, 1.2m over Firmino could be very useful for example....

It appears to me that their are two reasonable ways to go; either pick a Liverpool midfielder and stick with them (my choice would be Firmino) or alternatively don't bother with any of them and pick players who play for teams where the attacking points are less spread out.

I'll be going without a Liverpool midfielder, instead playing Capoue each week alongside Sterling, Sanchez and Antonio.

I'm on team Lallana (even though I went for a Firmino Coutinho double up on my WC).

I think we can conclusively say that the points from Liverpool mids are a bit of a lottery. So why is everyone so determined to buy the most expensive tickets? Lallana is playing as an attacking central mid just behind the front 3. He will score points, and for a lot less cash than the other options. IMO doubling up with him and another of your choice is a very easy decision.

As for those 3? Coutinho is cheapest and seems to be getting the bet scores, so.......

Just watched the game back Mark. I own Firminho and I can't deny he played well and could even fall into the 'assisting the assister' bracket.
Coutinho really caught my eye and I'm now contemplating a hit to do Antonio > Cout, I'm hit adverse so this is s real statement of intent from me, I can see Pool scoring at least 3 at Swansea while the Hammers appear to be in turmoil.

Doubling on Coutinho and Mane worked fine for me.. Have no intentions of choosing just 1, as Liverpool tend to score a lot of goals, and they are likely to be involved in most of them.. Firmino will get his points as well, he is involved.

I doubled up on Firmino and Mane during my WC last week. I'll be keeping the same 2 throughout this run of fixtures. I think there's points across the whole liverpool midfield particularly Firmino Mane Coutinho Lallana (who seems to be breaking into the box at the right times just as he was with that season at Southampton).

Imo it's worth having at least one of those 4 Liverpool players in your team.

Interesting comments from Klopp on MNF. Saying how Firmino has to work especially hard in Liverpool's pressing because of his central position and is especially good at winning the ball back compared to Coutinho and Mane because of his physicality. This is of course very small evidence and a very small theory, but to me it matches how Firmino is perhaps tending to win the ball back more with Lallana, Mane, and Coutinho breaking into the box to score more points. Granted, Firmino still had stats and chances against Hull, but just an interesting point from MNF.

y0. I have 2.5m ITB. Thus, i can do either:

      A. Kingsley > Bellerin
      B. Kak > Ibra

      Pick
      Walker Loveren Holebas
      Sanchez Antonio Mane Capoue
      Aguero Costa Kak

      Jak De Roon Kingsley Amat

What say ye? A or B. Or other?

He came close to a brace yesterday, and I can't see him being too happy about not scoring. I think Sparky might be on the end of a 4 goal reverse next weekend, I would be extremely surprised if Ibra didn't get at least one.

Thinking of giving him the captaincy over Kun at Spurs.

You are effectively making Capoue your 3rd mid. Personally I think thats unsustainable over the season. Your defence is not overly strong (with a few fringe players) but your attack is very strong. You could have a much more balanced side by switching out Ibra to Rachford/Deeney. It would leave you 5 million or so to upgrade your midfield and fit in a premium attacking defender. It is still early in the season and a couple of teams have an incredible run of fixtures. Any team with the big 3 of Sanchez, Kun and Ibra will have to compromise in other areas but being without Ibra at the moment should not hurt your OR too much due to the number of transfers out he has had. Good luck with whatever you go with.

That's an interesting one, I started the season with him too and ditched him on wildcard. Although I do have Sanchez so all is not lost.

My worry with Walcott is always gametime. Although Wenger has spoken positively about him since pre-season and he hasn't missed a game yet. Reckon he'll stay in the team? Will CL rotation affect that?

If playing, there's no 7.5m midfielder I'd rather have. I'd be Interested in your appraisal.

It's all a matter of assessment, isn't it? I don't consider Sanchez to be comparable to any other midfielder. Not when Wenger is giving him a run at #9. What he is, in that position, is essential.

Walcott isn't in my team. My reservations about Arsenal midfield options are exactly why. But at 7.5m if he continues to start he's exceptional value. Hence my opportunistic enquiry to a Gooner.

      How's this WC midfield looking?

      Sanchez - Son - Walcott - Lallana - (Fletcher)

Not sure about Son or Walcott, though.

Walcott is in solid form right now and Arsenal have a run of plum fixtures, but I suspect Sanchez might be enough. Son has been immense for a couple games but an he keep it up?

Depends on how short term you're looking. Walcott / Son look nailed for the short term, but having both means inevitably FTs spent on them. I'd balance by picking one from each pair.

Keep Ibra for Stoke. I wouldn't sell Snodgrass either; has great fixtures coming and could quite possibly be the best value player in the game.

Sterling is good value, but after Stoke United have tough fixtures, and Rashford isn't nailed with the options they have.

Thoughts on Baines ---> Bellerin? Is Bellerin worth the price tag? Great fixtures.

Bellerin worth getting in, but not for Baines imo. Who are your other defenders?

Valencia the only other one I could afford to get him in for. I thought Baines had a hammy injury?

Keep an eye on prices Bubz. Bellerin is on -79.9 to drop.
        I'd love to have him.

I think he's on positive transfers in now though

He is, he was -98% yesterday. Not surprising given his points scored and upcoming games.

Everything looks great for Ibra vs. Stoke. -- Worst defence in the league, 15 conceded. Conceded 4 in a game 3 times.
      - United on form again, putting 4 past the champions.
      - Hughes looking at changing the way they defend set pieces and aerial balls as they give away too many pens (which Ibra is on)
      - as a result they are being more cautious defending crosses into the box, which Ibra will be trying to get his head on.

I'll captian him, and he will blank.

I'll captain Aguero who will blank and Ibra will score 4 goals.

My current defense: Williams, Valencia, Pieters, Masuaku, Marc Wilson.

Need to replace Masuaku, have 0.1 in the bank, so 5.1 to use. Any suggestions?

Don't you have any other pressing matters? If you've checked your team is fine for next week then go for it.

          Foster (jaku)
          Baines Walker Valencia (collins amat)
          Caz Lallana antonio redmond (capoue)
          Ibra kun costa

No other pressing issues i think

Caz to walcott is what im thinking

nahh.. id say yes if the the striker you are getting is someone like rashford deeney or defoe.

Wait till the int. Break. Sanchez has a very punishing schedule again, could easily be rested. Ozil has started scoring, not much danger in giving him one more game.

      In a front 8 of :

      Bolassie - Antonio - Alexis - Snod - Capoue
      Kun - Ibra - Luk

what is the most obvious move? Missing some LIV here and it starts hurting me.

      A. Valencia , Bolassie --> Lallana , 4.4 MID
      B. Lukaku , Bolassie --> Mane / Firminho , Deeney / Rashford (and then offload the double utd attack with just keeping Rashford )
      C. Ibra , Bolassie --> Rashford , Mane / Firminho

I guess most of you would go C but I wanna give Ibra a last chance vs Hull.

Citys fixtures so far: Man Utd and the bottom 6 teams. Are they that damn good? or has there been an element of luck/good fixtures? They did pretty much teach Utd a football lesson at their own yard...

Probably all of the above. When fixtures become more congested over Xmas time things might be different. You can only best who is in front of you but yes they have had an easy run so far.

Regardless of KDB injury Sterling is the route into city midfield right ?

The way he took his goal this week oozes confidence. Couldve passed to Kun

Does anyone know about whether Marshall is Hull's new number one choice keeper? Or will Jaku be back in next game?

liverpool wouldve scored goals even if jaku was there
