Monday morning sees the launch of our latest captain poll, canvassing your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 7.

Sergio Aguero (13.0) returned from a three-match suspension in style in Gameweek 6 with two goals and maximum Fantasy Premier League bonus points away to Swansea, to reward the 45% in our Captain Poll who backed him with the armband.

Even though the 37.2% owned Manchester City striker faces a far tougher test this weekend at Tottenham Hotspur, it would be no surprise to see him tussle at the top of this week’s poll as well.

The omens are certainly in his favour – Aguero has ten goals from nine appearances against Spurs.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) will likely be challenging Aguero at the top of the poll, after finishing a distance second to the Argentine in Gameweek 6.

A strong home fixture against a Stoke City side that has conceded 15 times this term, coupled with impressive underlying statistics, offer the big Swede a strong case for selection.

No other player has had more goal attempts than the 55.8% owned striker but interest may be tempered by his failure to register returns from the impressive 4-1 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

His cut price team-mate Marcus Rashford (6.9) did manage to score against the Foxes, taking his taking to three goals in four Gameweeks. With more than 71,000 new FPL owners so far this week, he is also expected to garner captaincy interest.

Romeu Lukaku (9.3) will also be in the frame. Like Ibrahimovic, the 19.4% owned striker also blanked in Gameweek 6 as Everton slipped to a reverse at Bournemouth. But his Gameweek 7 opponents Crystal Palace have yet to chalk up a clean sheet ahead of Friday’s trip to Goodison Park.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez has three double-digit FPL scores already this season and he looks an potentially effective differential captaincy option. With three goals and two assists in his last two road trips, it is little wonder that the Chilean has attracted more than 76,000 new managers ahead of the Gunners’ visit to Burnley this weekend.

The midfielders minefield at Liverpool is set to split the vote among their key contenders. Sadio Mane (9.0), the 30.3% owned Philippe Coutinho (8.2) and Adam Lallana (11.3) all offer solid options for the armband when they visit a Swansea City outfit that has conceded seven times across their three home fixtures this season. All three of this midfield trio scored at home to Hull City at the weekend to further boost their case.

Although their team-mate Roberto Firmino (8.4) failed to register any attacking returns against the Tigers, the 9.9% owned Brazilian’s strong underlying numbers, including topping Liverpool’s chance creation table this season, should give those keeping faith a degree of confidence. .

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Right, I'm 0.4 short of replacing KDB with Sanchez (will require a hit). Who would you replace out of this lot?

    --------------Foster-Pickford------------------
    Valencia-Stones-Williams-Holebas-Amat
    KDB-Firmino-Antonio-Snodgrass-Capoue
    -----------Aguero-Ibra-Deeney---------------

I'm thinking maybe Stones to a 4.5 def as he's not really justified keeping his place in my team so far, but a 5.0 City defender still feels like great value.

Valencia to a 5.0 probably. Fixture aren't that nice for Man U in the next 3. At least, in a defendind prospects POV

Can't do that before a home game vs. Stoke!

Kind of keen to keep him in there regardless as it's easier to swap to a different premium defender if needed.

Next thing for Pep to sort out is his defence and he will, 5.0 for a City defender will be turn good at some point
      Firmino > Lallana
Snodgrass > Oriol Romeu (not as good returns but will save around 1 mill)

      KDB > Sanchez

Also thinking about this, but I've had Capoue from the start. I know his scoring rate is flukey at the moment, but he should continue grabbing the odd goal and is still the best 5th mid option IMO.

watch today's game and reassess than

Snoddy GW8+ is a keeper, Firmino > Lallana is chasing last weeks points at its finest, Antonio...c'mon man.

Capo is bench > seems pretty straight forward
(gonna be even more obvious after tonight's upcoming blank)

Not just last weeks points, in fairness - Lallana has more points total at the moment. I don't expect that to stay the same, but Liverpool midfield really seems like it'll frustrate anyone who doesn't have two of them, but Firmino seems like a player who rewards patience so I'll be sticking.

Antonio I'm not keen on selling of course.

Will for sure be watching the game tonight anyway, that'll make the Capoue decision easier, one way or another...

I had a similar issue yesterday and ended up doing Firmino > Coutinho & KDB > Sanchez.

Very sideways but think was the ebst option to get Sancehz and keep liverpool coverage.

Fully expecting firminio to rack up a haul now though!

I imagine you've all spent the last couple of days really looking forward to my Monday Boro round up? Which of our players have jumped up the UTB BUY rankings??? Which Boro players are worth a four point hit to get in?? Does anybody even own any Boro players anymore?

Anyway, I'm keeping this brief this week (you'll be thrilled to hear) but there's actually some interesting bits this week for this prepared to read on...

Valdes - Had a fight with Clayton. Unfortunately hasn't grown this week, made one wonderful camera save which didn't make the television highlights.
Barragan - Worst game so far, still nailed on.
Friend - The sooner he's out the team the better. Out of his depth and the saddest part of it is he's starting to look like a man that knows it. Feel a bit sorry for him really. It's probably not a good sign that Fabio might end up being our most important signing.
Gibson - A positive!! Played 'OK' and got a goal - sign him up!!
Chambers - When he wasn't getting tackled he was playing 'alright'. In for Ayala. He did some very good things, and some verybad things, which I suspect is the story of his career so far. He has probably done enough to get a run in the team.

Clayton/ De Roon - Two holding midfielders that don't go past the ball...not an ideal situation for attacking when your front four has no pace. It's no wonder Spurs were camped in our half in the first half. Clayton was replaced by Forshaw who gives us far more going forward. Expect De Roon/Forshaw from now on.

Stuani - Words fail me. Have you ever seen a right winger without pace or skill? I have and his name is Christhian... Moved upfront when the subs were made where he looked slightly more comfortable without ever being a threat.

Downing - Got another assist 😀

Ramirez - a completely redundant force with no pace around him and two midfielders who refuse to run beyond the ball.

Negredo - Isolated for his sixty minutes. Taken off when we decided to attack, which seemed a bit odd.

Anyway thanks for staying with me to get this far, but here's the interesting bit....Boro were utterly hopeless, slow and defensive until Adama Traore came on for Ramirez and then CHAOS!!

The man has absolutely zero positional sense, which can be a marvellous thing in terms of confusing the opposition as much as his teammates but he is an absolute beast with terrifying pace (and potentially no final ball)

Having seen West Ham yesterday if we play Adama Traore it could end up resembling a school football match. Believe me things were that bad in the first half, seeing a guy beat four men and then overhitting a through ball time and time again was a joy to behold - he's certainly a spark and literally the only pace we have in our squad.

Rhodes - came on and had a header on target. To be fair, he looked like he had a point to prove and worked his socks off.

In summary, don't buy any Boro players. If you have Gibson hold him. Good luck if you have any others!

P.S Fancy us to get something at West Ham though 🙂

Yeah, I've seen at least 3 Boro games so far and I'd agree, he seems to be getting beat in every game!

Hopefully, he'll up his game and Karanka can Pulis it up a bit (like I was expecting). Probably in relegation form atm though

The problem we have is that with such Premier League inexperience in defence and midfield we are making a lot of mistakes - which at the moment is preventing us from doing a Pulis.

The best form of defence for us now could well turn out to be attack, which would blow Karanka's whole philosophy out of the window.

Whilst we play an attack without pace we have no means of releasing the pressure against the top sides. Friend is being targeted and he's struggling big time. Bless him he's trying but he's just simply not good enough.

You're right to be wary though - he's this season's Martial. So he's a good option for his price tbf, but wouldn't hold on to him through tougher fixtures (which so far this season, there doesn't seem to be many of from an attacking point of view)

Why start the poll before the round has even finished?
Did this a couple of weeks ago, before Lukaku scored his hat trick in the Monday night match.
Skewed the results which ended with Ibra as narrow winner due to early votes.

Why the desperation to get it started so quickly?

I should have gotten rid of Stones on my WC. He's no better than a Sunderland defender right now as City just don't look like the'll be keeping that many clean sheets, if any. They'll score many, but they look like they'll always let in the odd goal. And I'm not expecting any attacking returns from him.

Provisionally have crunched the numbers for the Bonkers captain picks this week.
Sanchez comes out First, then Aguero followed by Ibrahimovic. It is provisional however, as some Burnley variables could alter the score for Sanchez, he is quite well clear though, so unlikely

Sanchez, Lukaku or maybe even Deeney depending on tonights match. Will probably stick with my usual policy of just picking whoever tops the poll.
        Sanchez most likely

Burlney's defensive stats are not bad. Midtable you might say. They don't give away many chances, shots etc. I don't Arsenal will have an easy match and neither will Sanchez.

Out of interest, did any non-Ibra owners vote for him in the captain poll?

I dropped him on my WC but this week is the one I feared when I pushed the button. Terrific underlying stats, at home against a team who have lost every shred of confidence they ever had. I don't know how anyone can argue that he's not the best captain choice.

Don't have him and am a little scared with captain choice, will not be Aguero and only other option is Amat or Sanchez

After Stoke though Utd do have 2 difficult games and so not worth a one week punt at that price

I just pick Aguero as captain every week. Seems to work well enough given that he's the best striker playing in the best side and takes penalties.

I'm still maintaining my no-Ibrahimovic stance - though Rashford is now very, very appealing at Stoke.

There's a lot to be said for that approach. The number of times I've dodged a big captain haul by being too 'clever' (Lukaku has probably been involved a lot).

You'll get the odd blank but that's true of any (C) strategy unless you're inhumanly lucky 🙂

Indeed. Far too much overthinking can cloud judgement.

Aguero is the best striker in the country. Man City are the best side in the country. That's sufficient.

    Morning gents.

This is my lot for the GW.

    Foster
    Williams Valencia Holebas
    Mane Sterling Antonio Capoue
    Kun Lukaku Ibra

    (Pickford/Barry/Collins/Amat)

1 FT, 0.6 ITB and no wildcard needed.

    Not happy with collins atm
Any suggestion regarding the team would be very much appreciated

      Ibrahimovic for Rashford
      Mane for Sanchez

Can that be done? Don't know the prices off the top of my head but it seems right and is a far better side in my opinion.

  18. dmenezes

    Playing my wildcard.
    First draft:
    Boruc Mandanda
Walker Bertrand Evans Morgan Smith (Bou)
    Walcott Sterling Mane Townsend Son
    Deeney Rashford Aguero

    1.0 ITB
Bit light on attack but Aguero is a must, Deeney on pens and Rashy seems to be a good punt.
Also worried about Morgan as a rotation. Might need to upgrade GK.
    What's peeps thoughts?
