Scout Notes – EFL Cup – Wednesday

Big teams fielding full-strength sides, crowd trouble and David Moyes sent to the stands – the sponsor-less EFL Cup creates a wild night of headlines.

Throw in an ineffective cameo from Sergio Aguero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic jumping on the suspension tightrope and Diego Costa avoiding a ban yet again and maybe it won’t be sponsor-less for much longer.

Here’s the low-down on a night of high drama.

Man United 1 Man City 0

If the FA Cup had become an ‘always the bridesmaid’ kind of competition, then the EFL Cup was so unloved it didn’t even get an invite to the wedding.

Not anymore.

Jose Mourinho fielded close to his full-strength team in the 1-0 win over the noisy neighbours, with Juan Mata (7.4) scoring from a Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.3) assist.

Rather than gaining local bragging rights or a place in the quarter finals, the match was as much about redemption for coach and club after their 4-0 drubbing by Chelsea. And for Pep Guardiola and City, it was a chance to win for the first time in six attempts.

But the repercussions of the tie will be felt by both parties.

Mourinho selected Ibrahimovic and then played him for the full 90 minutes. The 38.3%-owned Swede picked up a booking in time added on which means he now has four cautions for the season – one away from an automatic single-match ban.

United’s attacking resources are getting stretched. The out-of-favour Wayne Rooney (8.7) has a muscle problem and Marcus Rashford (6.9) left the field – and walked straight down the tunnel – in the second half of the win with a knock that will be assessed later today.

Despite his form, Mourinho can hardly afford to lose Ibrahimovic to a ban in Saturday’s home match with Burnley.

He also has concerns in defence, after Chris Smalling (5.9) joined Eric Bailly (5.5) on the sidelines.

Guardiola, meanwhile, went back to a four-man defence – possibly to blood young right back Pablo Maffeo (4.5) in the light of injuries to both Bacary Sagna (5.3) and Pablo Zabaleta (4.7) – only for the just-returned Vincent Kompany (5.9) to be withdrawn at half-time.

The Spaniard played down the problem post-match.

“It is important after two years injured. Three days ago he played 70 minutes, here 45 and no injury. That is a good step, the first step. After we have to see. The important thing is he is not injured. Of course he felt not good. That’s why we made the substitution, knowing what happened in the past.”

Kelechi Iheanacho (6.8) was again preferred to Sergio Aguero (13.1), presumably with the Argentinian being preserved for the now-vital trip to West Brom.

City also face Barcelona just three days after that fixture, which was likely to play a part in their manager’s thinking last night.

Aguero was given a run-out in the final 20 minutes but failed to make an impression. He’s now failed to score in six successive matches for City.

Manchester United XI: de Gea, Valencia, Blind, Rojo, Shaw, Carrick, Herrera, Mata (Schneiderlin 73), Pogba, Rashford (Lingard 82), Ibrahimovic.
Subs not used: Romero, Depay,Young, Fellaini, Darmian.

Manchester City XI: Caballero, Maffeo, Otamendi, Kompany (Kolarov 45), Clichy, Navas, García, Fernando, Nolito (Aguero 71), Sané (Sterling 63), Iheanacho.
Subs not used: Gunn, Gundogan, Fernandinho, Adarabioyo.

West Ham United 2 Chelsea 1

Another close to full-strength side prevailed as West Ham were good value for their win over a much-changed but still strong Chelsea.

Cheikhou Kouyate (5.2), from a Mark Noble (6.3) assist, and Edimilson Fernandes (4.9) got the goals, with Gary Cahill’s (5.9) second strike in as many matches coming far too late to turn the tide at a febrile London Stadium.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic again went for three centre-halves, with midfielder Kouyate among them and the 12.8%-owned Michail Antonio (7.0) back up front as Fernandes took on the right wing-back role.

Fernandes impressed and drew praise from Bilic, which could see him maintain his starting role and help keep Antonio deployed in the attack.

Antonio has been sold by more FPL managers than any midfielder in the Gameweek, yet his remaining owners may now be persuaded to hold in light of last night’s change of position.

But the West Ham boss does now have more options available in that department.

Bilic seems eager to give Simone Zaza the opportunity to show his worth and, with the Italian benched last night, he could be in line for a recall at Everton. Equally, Andre Ayew (7.1) returned to the fray to earn a late run-out for the first time since his cruel Gameweek 1 injury.

With Lanzini and Payet seemingly assured of berths in two of the attacking positions, a shift up front could actually put Antonio’s start in doubt.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte gave the returning John Terry (5.4) the full 90 minutes, which meant Cesar Azpilicueta (6.0) moved to wing-back.

Willian (7.2) played for the first time since the death of his mother, which puts the in-form Pedro’s (7.1) place in doubt, although Conte brought on the Spaniard, and big guns Diego Costa (10.3) and Eden Hazard (9.8) with the second half in its infancy to try and spark a comeback.

The Costa move was particularly risky as a caution would have seen him banned for Sunday’s trip to Southampton, but the striker again kept himself out of trouble.

Joining him on four yellows for the season were the Hammers duo of Noble and Winston Reid (5.0), who will now tread the suspension tightrope at Everton on Sunday.

West Ham XI: Randolph, Kouyaté, Reid, Ogbonna, Fernandes (Feghouli 66), Noble, Obiang, Cresswell; Payet, Lanzini (Ayew 78); Antonio (Zaza 82).
Subs not used: Nordtveit, Adrián, Collins, Fletcher.

Chelsea XI: Begovic, David Luiz, Cahill, Terry, Aina (Pedro 67), Kanté, Chalobah (Hazard 63), Azpilicueta, Willian, Batshuayi (Costa 54), Oscar.
Subs not used: Alonso, Matic, Eduardo, Solanke.

Southampton 1 Sunderland 0

The footballing lord giveth and he taketh away, as Southampton coach Claude Puel found out in the narrow win over Sunderland.

A quarter final berth in the EFL Cup means the Saints squad will have to deal with three competitions before the FA Cup even enters the equation, and Puel’s attacking options will have been boosted by a superb match-winning goal from record signing Sofiane Boufal (6.8), his first for the club.

But by then Jay Rodriguez (6.3) had been taken off with concussion and with Shane Long (6.1) unlikely to figure short-term because of a hamstring injury, Southampton’s busy schedule – including Europa League duties – could mean unwanted extra minutes for Charlie Austin (6.6) and the in-form Nathan Redmond (5.9), owned by 10.7% and 6.5% of Fantasy Premier League managers respectively.

Puel blooded six Academy youngsters against a Sunderland side that had won only two matches under David Moyes all season – both in the EFL Cup. With seven players now potentially out injured, his squad is now looking seriously stretched.

As for David Moyes, is situation is edging closer to crisis. Sunderland’s winless streak went on at St Mary’s and so incensed was the Scot by the non-award of a penalty that he ended up being sent to the stands.

Saturday looks crucial for the Black Cats and Moyes but, having fielded a strong line-up last night, you have to fear for Sunderland’s prospects against a largely rested Arsenal in the early kick-off.

Given that the Gunners have seven clean sheets in eight, things are looking ominous for the Wearsiders.

Southampton XI: McCarthy, Yoshida, Fonte, Stephens, McQueen, Reed (Clasie 82), Ward-Prowse, Højbjerg, Boufal, Rodriguez (Olomola 26), Isgrove (Redmond 72).
Subs not used: Austin, Martina, van Dijk, Lewis.

Sunderland XI: Pickford, Jones, Koné, Djilobodji, van Aanholt, Rodwell, McNair (Pienaar 87), Ndong, Watmore (Gooch 87), Anichebe, Khazri (Defoe 72).
Subs not used: Mika, O’Shea, Manquillo, Love.

    Foster
    Kosc, Valencia, Holebas
    Sterling, Walcott, Mane, Firmino
    Aguero, Lukaku, Benteke

    Pickford, Pieters, Capoue, Amat

I have 2FTs, zero in the bank. Anything I should even do?! Team looks alright. Might do Capoue to 4.3m, bank a tranny and have 2FTs next week with some money in the bank to use?

I think his stats are decent and he could score against Pool, and the person I'd want in for him is Austin but hes up against currently the best defence in the league, so I think I'll give him another week. If he blanks hes 100% out for Austin next week

Very tempting, would fancy either of them to do well against Leicester/Palace.

Mané/Coutinho/Firmino would be heavy duty! Alli vs a dodgy Leicester on the road?

Top Tips On Turning Around a Failing Fantasy Side

As has been well documented I’m having a bit of a poor season. But over the last couple of weeks I’ve been reminded I’m not alone, with many on site and on Twitter telling me about their similar slumps in form.

What I’m more interested though is how the hell us 1m+ ranked managers dig ourselves out.

Here I’m after finding out your tactics on beating a ranking freefall to help those of us out there that could do with a pick-me-up.

Key issues it would be good to find out your thoughts are include how you beat the Catch 22 situation of overhauling a team while avoiding spending too many hits to push your rank even further down.

Or are hits the best way out.

Red Lightning expertly took a 20 pt hit last week. Short term his rank fell…but crucially his his new team looks great and should more than make up for it.

I also remember Villa Ronka taking a 12 pt hit a season or two ago after his rank plummeted. Naturally it worked a treat.

Has a mega hit ever paid off for you? Or been a disaster?

Also what sort of players should you bring in. Should you go for differentials? Or stick with the template?

I remember RuthNZ posting a very good community article awhile back on turning around a ghost ship team with some good tactics about looking at players that are under the radar or present better value than their more expensive options.

That offers more options to consider. http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2016/05/25/turning-around-a-ghost-ship-team/

Feel free to leave your tales of bringing yourselves back from the brink here and share your top tips.

Slow and steady. taking big hits can pay off (and it's fun) but realistically you just need to remember there is a long, long way to go. Plus captaining Aguero is almost a "punt" these days. There are lots of points out there

I took quite a few hits at the beginning of last season, never more than a -8 though. I think I was bandwagon-hopping too much, though - it helped my TV massively, but not really my OR directly.

I went the whole of the second half of the season without taking any hits and my OR steadily increased over the weeks before shooting up at the DGWs. I do think increasing my TV with hits helped in the long run when it came time to wildcard around the DGWs, but I haven't taken any hits so far this season as none of the bandwagons have really tempted me yet.

That said, if I'd had a little less faith in Zlatan and been a little less afraid of a -4, I could have jumped on Costa early and I'd be much better off for it now.

I reckon a -4 or-8 for as many weeks as it takes to be happy with your team, rather than a -12 or more in one go. One or possibly 2 differentials max but mainly go with form players. Avoiding the term template as I don't think there is one!

    4. Alnair

Basic business management of Risk vs Reward. At 1M+ you have to be taking big risks to get yourself out and that does mean taking huge hits. I think it's even more important to do it NOW before a strong template emerges and pretty much locks the fate of your FPL season.

    5. RustyBz
      • 9 Years

Still early in the season, no need to hit that panic button yet. Follow the general plan of the FFS community and that'll boost your rank up.

I believe that if you have to make changes to improve instantly, do it now and don't wait. (lots can be corrected in two -8 GWs, lots of times it will even pay off immediately) Few weeks of waiting and doing it with only one FT could get you even in more trouble.

I did it a few times and will do it again without hesitation if needed.

Good luck Jonty, you'll be back to your usual 5K OR this season, no doubt.

Good advice. Something I'm personally considering. Taking action like that is also more fun. Looking at -8 this week. See how that sets me up next week and then a few -4 and occassional -8 along the way.

Yep, I'm not doing anything hugely drastic- mainly sorting my defence and getting a Puncheon replacement if he's out.

Can't complain with Lukaku, Walcott, Sanchez and Lallana plus Valencia in defence.

Last year was my annus horriblus, ironic coz i started like a train (Mahrez and Wilson) but tried to get ahead of the curve by predicting Leics would fall and Chelsea would rise, my bad, then got stubborn with Hazard, went really well 😛
I salvaged 2nd half of season by early wildcarding (rather than wait for round the dgws) got in lots of differentials and funky captain picks (Janmaat my fav), worked to a point and, crucially, was fun.
Much prefer that to steadily clawing way back with all the boring picks, its only a game afterall, a poor rank really doesnt matter in the great scheme of things

Its fascinating getting these responses as someone lucky enough to have always had good seasons.

What always prevents me from going crazy with hits despite sitting at a rubbish 850K there thereabouts is the annoyance of the hit costing you too much when the player you remove does well +4 causing the hit to yield a net loss. That said,it is all about the medium term gains over the short term losses I know, I just find it hard to get my head around it.

Take this week for instance, rumours (however rubbish) of Walcott being ill, Lallana not maintaining stride with rest of Liverpool attackers in terms of returns, Aguero on the wain and a doubt over Rashford I think I could quite comfortably take a -8 to -12 hit to remove many of these guys (upgrade Pool player for Lallana) and get Deeney and/or Luakaku.

Ultimately,it's a game,it's to be enjoyed, and while I lose sight of that EVERY weekend when I keep slipping for gambling a little bit,it's just a game and if you do badly it bears no real significance on your life other than to rob you of that £10 you bet with your ML rival.

I'd just play the game normally. Megahits are fine once in a while but don't overdo it.

Don't pick short term puntish players. Pick the long term players who will stick around in the team.

Its much more easier to make a comeback now with chips in the locker. Don't panic. And the golden advice is

      Pick once. Pick right.

I've had 2 seasons very recently now. Both with bad starts. But i managed a top 1k last quarter in both of them which got me amazing finishes.

Start giving yourself targets. Like i am at 220k right now. And i've given myself 5 weeks to breakthrough 100k. Now its upto me how i manage that.

And the last thing i'd do is stop looking at players who aren't obvious picks for captaincy.

I know the Kuns and Alexis' of the world haven't been firing. And this is what happens every season where someone doubts the quality of these players. We shouldn't forget that class.

There are very few players who when captained are capable of giving you a 30-40 point haul. Target those hauls. Based on team strength. Player class. See where you can find them. That will turn your season.

You will argue Stanislas got 22 points but the odds of him repeating that are poor.

Aguero, Ibra and Alexis though, they are always in the mix for huge hauls. Be prepared when they come.

High performing FPL teams are often at their most vulnerable when they're doing well... there is a tendency for managers to 'leave things as they are'. It's at this point where lesser-performing teams can steal a march on some under-the-radar picks... i.e. historically good FPL choices with good fixtures on the horizon, such as Siggy, Arnautovic, Chadli, etc.

        Indeed.

All three of those on my radar.

I think that tactic should work. All my last transfers have been with long term in mind. So Antonio and Ibra out for Walcott and Lukaku. this week Holebas. Also looking at Austin next week and so on. Reliable picks with ok fixtures that I'm happy to keep for a while.

          For GW 12 onwards :-

          First one to

Kane Lukaku Austin (Costa if you have the dough)
KDB Hazard Firm Pogba/Cout (Redmond if you have Costa)
          Alonso Bellerin Cedric/Holebas

I was ranked 1mil+ at this stage last season, it's not the end of the world.

Made it into the top 20k by Gw37 (40k by GW38) by playing my usual style. No hits unless neccessary and making good use of the chips.

Hits could work out fine but captaining a differential could do wonders for a team. I captained Costa against Swansea when everyone went Hazard and it worked a treat. Same thing this week. Lukaku and Kun will probably be differentials compared to Alexis and Ibra(possibly).

Took a -8 gameweek 6 this season to get Aguero back in and 2 Liverpool midfielders which gave me an 80 point gameweek!

      My tips would be:

      - Don't chase points, bring in players who are producing good stats but haven't yet had their day
      - Make sure every player you bring in is nailed on and won't get dropped, don't take chances with players who may get dropped or rotated
      - Get your defence settled, it's very tough to have good gameweeks if you've got a really weak defence i.e. Collins, Amat
      - Don't be scared to captain a differential if something tells you it's a good idea but make sure it's a player from a team who are unlikely to let you down e.g. Austin away to Hull next week

        You are a mind reader.

I've been urging people to consider Austin (c) v Hull and that's a move I'm looking at.

And yes the defence point is key. GWK 9 was a perfect example with Evans suspended Amat and Collins dropped it cost me and a few others dearly.

those cheap defender switches are boring moves - but vital.

Similarly though would you guys consider captaining Deeney at home to Hull this week? It is already risky enough having Deeney but everyone beats up on Hull. Cheers Jonty!

At this relatively early stage, and without a clear template, is it not still a case of simply picking the players you think will score the most points? There's still a long season ahead - Why would you do anything else?

Im on a "none hit plan" this season. So far its working, but with my wildcard spend, im not shure i can stick to the plan. A couple of seasons ago taking å hit to get Aguero in for Benteke would be a no brainer, but this season im not taking -4 for the same transfer because names like Benteke, Austin and Wilson may outscore Aguero in ther short term.

Any one els not taking hits?

I loathe the idea of constantly captaining Aguero, as the "safe" option. It's so boring and you miss a trick to take an opportunity to rise.
Taking hits to get in the hot players.
I've taken a hit in most weeks.

Last season was my first so I had no idea what I was doing for the most part. When I got more into it early in the second half of the season, I had no idea about stats and places like this site, but I went from 1.4M to 251K in the last 15-16 weeks or so. The nice part was that I'd just make transfers and not second guess myself, seeing as I wasn't caught up in numbers and stat tables. I took a lot of hits but didn't care (probably ~80 points over season) but with a -12 before DGW33-34 I scored 150+ with some nice moves. The thing is that the vast majority of the hits I took, if not all, were avoidable had there been that awareness of stats, rotation, fixtures - better planning in general. I think thinking ahead is one of the most important skills, and giving yourself multiple transfer options in future GWs to mitigate risk/latch onto form players etc. I think TV ties into this, as high TV will give better options in future, hence why I'm giving a lot of attention to building mine.

I think earlier in the season (now) it's more acceptable to take hits due to the long term gains it gives your team.

Later on in the season it doesn't have as much time to reap the rewards.

The main reason the hits earlier in the season can benefit a team is for TV. Taking hits early on to not only fix your team but get some players in who will boost your TV which in it's self can pay back the points hits.

An example of this will be the DGW's that most of use will aim to use our bench boosts and triple captains. Having a team with really good team value plus a wildcard is a manic combination before setting out your team for a bench boost double game week so you can have all the players you want to maximise it's effectiveness.

don't panic. a bad gameweek is like a bad hole in golf, dwelling on it or playing more emotionally on the next will likely only make things worse.

I'm at 450k odd after 3 seasons in the top 10k - similar issues, unfamiliar place, used to being a front runner and dictating my ML. However...

Thinking ahead there will naturally be a hell of a lot of turbulence during the usual crazy pre-post Xmas period around GW15-20. By this point you will be looking for nailed down players and a full squad which in itself will allow gains on others less prepared. Of course there are also the key chips of 2nd WC/TC/BB which can result in big swings in points. Factor in the transfer window as well and some new faces into this mix. Plus the inevitable double fixtures...

While it feels alien it just has to be way too early for too many panic moves. If there was a clear template it might be different - but there are so many viable choices, each popping up at different times. Teams - and therefore fantasy assets within teams - are falling in and out of form almost on a weekly basis. So long as you get 11 proven guys out with decent bench backup you have done your job. That's about all you can predict readily this season up to now...

Lost 600k places over the last couple of weeks. Decided on a -8 this week using x2 FTs already saved, feel a lot better about the team.

Have tried to settle the defence that happy with long term. Now have a Man U, Chel and Tot back 3.

x2 Liverpool mids in place for good fixtures.

Think bringing Tot Defender and x2 Liverpool mids was key moving forward.

I've just a look at his team ready to be hyper critical, but actually the transfers he made make complete sense.
Don't think I could ever bring myself to take that kind of hit though, a -4 feels bad enough!

Thank you AZ. As you have recognised, there is some method in my madness.

The restructuring of my squad is not yet quite complete, but once it is I will hope to keep future hits to a minimum.

It is not a template squad that I am aiming for - many will criticise it for too much spending on the defence and the omission of expensive big-hitters such as Sanchez and KDB - but it is one that I believe could do well.

This is not the first time I have adopted this tactic. Back in 2012-13 I took a whopping 40 point hit, which caused an immediate drop in my OR from 791k in GW15 to 1.006m in GW16, but in GW17 it recovered to 729k and by GW25 it had reached 200k, so the tactic can work. Desperate situations sometimes require drastic action, and sometimes taking the bull by the horns is better than allowing the situation to fester.

But ideally one should not allow this situation to develop in the first place. I have made too many mistakes already this season and perhaps had some bad luck as well in some cases, but my biggest mistake was playing my wildcard in GW2.

If you feel some low-owned player is gonna score big the week, bring him in even if it involves taking a hit or 2 and put the armband around him. There is no fun if everyone captains the same set of players.

Those who have nothing to loose are the most dangerous. So just take the plunge and bring in some massive differentials
PS: get some attacker from united this week, coz burnley are in for some serious trashing 🙂

For once I've actually had a good start to the season, but my previous downfall after a bad start was making rash decisions after a poor week.

If I got a 30 point week I would transfer someone out that day in frustration rather than taking time to make the best decision.

I think keeping the core of players who you know will do well is key, but then rotating your more punty players at the right time is almost more important.

Making the right captain choice is also always the big factor when in a slump as well!

Guy in my mini league took a 16 point hit two weeks ago and I ripped it out of him.

He's posted back to back seventy points weeks and is now above me.

If your team is poor, it needs fixing. Problem this season I've found is more different players getting the points each week.

Don't keep hanging onto players who aren't performing just because they have to turn it round sometime.(e.g. Ibra owners)
Don't be afraid to take hits. (guy in one of my mini leagues took well over 200 pts in hits last year and still got in top 500 - an extreme example)
Don't chase differentials just because they are low ownership.
Remember one good gameweek can change everything. A couple of weeks the GW highest score saw her jump around 1.5m places.

If you need to make changes, it's far better to do it sooner rather than later - don't be afraid of taking a 8, 12 or even 16 point hit if it allows you to get players in that you believe will deliver over the short to medium term. Over the course of a season, one or two really big point hits will not hurt your overall standing.

We have a pretty big mini league at work which ive won the last two seasons and one of the reasons i think is ive always acted promptly on trying to get onto players showing good form or stats (in which this website has been invaluable!) even if that meant taking a hit. Last season i finished 100 points clear in our league and took several 8 point hits during the season and by GW35 i was OR of 370.

One of my best ever stories for a hit was a few seasons back when Villa played QPR and i took a -8 to get Benteke, Phillips and Austin in for that GW. Scored over 100pts. It was just a dream GW.

Hits now and then to solve issues or get players you are really convinced on into your team i don't see as a problem but if you are taking hits all the time it will backfire. I also think taking hits to get a defender in seems to often go wrong so ive tried to avoid that.

I have no doubt come the season end you'll be back up at the top end!

I took a 20-point hit once. Relatively early, last season. It was an aaccident, I swear! Forgot to hit the wildcard button.
It ended quite well, actually - there's a feel-good factor to the team that lasted until the new year.

Last season I was about 1.7m at this stage. I didn't qualify for "the cup" and by gameweek 27 I worked my way back to just inside the top 800k. If I hadn't used my TC on Andy Carroll and went with Payet, I'd have finished well inside the top 10k instead of just outside of it. (BB helped me from about ~240k to 20k in GW35, 180 point gameweek)
As most have said before me, the trick is to just stay calm. You're a good player and so just keep plodding along and you'll be making the ground up slowly every week. I did not take many hits and just made generally template transfers. Don't play games with your C choice either, I went through a phase of unique captains and ended up about 30 points worse off over an 8 week period.

Don't try and be too smart about it. With the chips especially, you can make up massive ground in no time at all.

I once overhauled an 80 point (against a decent manager too) deficit close to Christmas.

It does slightly depend on the kind of season that is unfolding, this one is very different from last season.

Hits can indeed pay off, mainly because if your team is so far removed from the ideal you will always be playing catch up with just 1 transfer a week. Sometimes you have to take a hit or 3 to bring in the players who will get you points, ive certainly taken 12 pointers that paid off before.

Deviating heavily towards radical lineups will likely result in falling behind further. Try and spot an unexploited area or 2- like doubling up on a defence if warranted. Bide your time and dont try to make the ground up in just 3 weeks!

We should remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint.
I got 26k rank in 2011/12 season with no van Persie in my team for 37 Gameweeks. He was the highest scoring player that season. It is not like you should go with the template and then only you will finish with a good rank. Perhaps you could use that money elsewhere in your team. You should do what you think is best. I have seen posts and price rises where a player becomes a sensation/must have after just one Gameweek.

Don't panic! I was 1.5M this stage last year and ended up around 8.5k. I took a few hits, caught a couple of decent captain scores and clawed my way back. The good luck will come (I hope so anyway, I'm in the same mess again this year.....)

Dont panic and trust in your decision making as a good fanrasy manager.

You wont make it all back in a week and 1k already out of reach but over time you should be able to make it towards 10k, we are only 1/4 the way through the season.

There is no hard and fast rule to how many hits, you have to clinically analyse the moves you think will maximise your chances of good points, sometimes that wil be covering the herd, sometimes it will be going your own way.

The same successful way you have played for years Jonty.

Lukaku and Firmino are good buys - both arguably must-haves. Save for now and see what makes more sense moving forward...see how they all perform.

Need to see rest of squad. Moving Aguero not worth a hit. Watford strikers are risky and taking a hit on a defender is painful. But your call

Stupid question on WCs, as I've never still had mine this late into a season!

Do you have to use your first WC by a certain date? Second WC comes active January 1st or something doesn't it, so does the first WC still carry over?

    Thanks in advance.

You need to use it by the end of Dec. Not sure on GW or dates but check the rules

i guarantee you a lot of managers have shown their players a recording of the spurs city game. weaknesses came to the surface in that match and seem to have stuck around ever since. Pep is unwaivering in how he wants to play but i think he has maybe four players capaple of consistently playing his system well without any fatal errors when at bayern and barca he had 11 every time

Bizarrely I think Brenden Rodgers has shown people the way. Press them high and they can't cope.

That's not too surprising. Rodgers idolized Pep and his philosophy so may have had some ideas on how to counter it.

Would be funny if Pep loses out on the league because of his defense the same way Rodgers did.

    Antonio replacement chaps?
    A) Shaqiri
    B) Chadli
    C) Lallana

I'm tempted to punt on Shaqiri for a couple of weeks then switch to one of the others later. Or should I just go with one of the others now. Bit worried Lallana's purple patch may have come and gone

Thinking Antonio out but not sure who a better pick for 7 mill would be

    Foster
    Williams Mustafi Pieters
    Sanchez Mane Firm Capoue
    Aguero Tekkers Deeney
    Subs Jak Antonio Mcauley Amat

        why not?

the teams they face doesnt score too many goals

Remember when i suggested Pieters a couple of weeks back but people said stoke were awful. But now many are getting him

Likewise Morgan looks good for cs imo.

        1. Alnair

Stoke was always one of those that had a good chance of coming good but were in poor defensive form. Watford were in the same sort of zone as well, but Leicester aren't in that kind of form at all because we see their strong defense at home but not even a shadow of it away.

Of course, this is the future we're talking about and not much is set in stone, but Leicester don't seem to have that overall bad form to come good through imo.

A team that's more like to come good defensively is 'pool, we're conceding less corners and freekicks as a way of avoiding the set piece weakness of our defense. That coupled with the low amount of chances we give away per game points to us coming good at some point.

Sort of but they only really get clean sheets at home. 2 nice home fixtures coming and that's about it.

i dont think that trend will continue. they faced some tough away games in last 3 (che man united liverpool )

against easier away games in next 3 they should keep it tight and nick a few clean sheets
