Gameweek 18 comes to its conclusion this Wednesday evening as Southampton welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St Mary’s.

Claude Puel’s men seek a fourth successive clean sheet in front of their own supporters, with ever-present Virgil van Dijk (13% ownership) the most popular Saints player by some distance in Fantasy Premier League.

After netting twice in the 3-1 win at Bournemouth, Jay Rodriguez retains his role up front and is afforded another chance to play his way into our plans ahead of some fine upcoming fixtures.

Back-to-back home blanks against Hull and Burnley persuaded many to part company with Harry Kane last time out – the Spurs frontman was second only to Diego Costa for transfers out in Gameweek 18. Nonetheless, a big performance could have a big effect in the FPL standings – Kane is the sixth most captained player for this round of fixtures.

His Tottenham team-mate Christian Eriksen also earned significant sales after failing to deliver points against the Clarets, yet both have the underlying numbers to punish those who chose to look elsewhere.

    My thoughts on the match

    The Spurs midfield continues to be a puzzle needing a solution for Pochettino. The link up play between Kane, Alli, Eriksen, Lamela and Dembele that was so instrumental to their dominance last season has been completely nonexistent this season. Despite almost weekly tweaks to shape and tactics Poch hasn't been able to figure it out. Maybe the transfer window is the answer?
    Harry Kane. Get out of my team. I've never rated him much but the goals were undeniable. When he's not scoring it is clear just how limited he is. That header today might help his confidence. That penalty not so much.
    Alli. The next Lampard right here. Involvement isn't what it was last season but the killer instinct is as good as ever.
    Eriksen. Very poor for an hour by his standards. Majestic for the last 30 odd minutes. He is well and truly carrying Spurs on his shoulders this season. Will be getting him into my team asap. Probably after Chelsea. I did warn y'all selling him was bonkers 😛
    Son. So clinical. Underrated part of this side.

    Saints continue to punch way above their weight. What an impressive club. Lose their best players and managers yet keep improving. The talent that comes out of the academy is quality. They produce youngsters that are technically and tactically wise beyond their years.
    Romeu. One of the most underrated players in the league. Great midfield war today.
    Redmond. Great with the ball at his feet. Starting to wonder if he will ever improve that final ball and finishing ability to fulfill his potential.
    Boufal. Great talent. On the periphery today.
    Jay Rodriguez. Anonymous today. Spurs defenders tend to have that effect on attacking players.

    Very even game until the red card. The two late goals although pure quality were the result of 10 men chasing the game and getting caught out.

      Champ this is probably great but i've had a lot of Port.

      Dele was very good imo. Saints right in it until last 15 mins. Red card made it hard to judge a lot of stuff but think saints would have tired anyway as pressing game was falling away 2nd half.

      As saints def owner no need to panic.

      One can see the natural talent is most present in Eriksson and Dembele...at Fulham, the latter played more advanced, so perhaps Poch should drop the pretenders Son, Sissoko, Lamela, play Dier with Wanyama (or back 3) and use Alli, Dembele and Eriksson behind Kane
